Came to this place a few times but never had food just drinks so the other night when we finally decided to have dinner here it was quite the surprise. The food was delicious and our waitress was super helpful/attentive. I had the salmon entree with tator tots and a small salad (may not call it a salad it was only a few bites). We also tried the crab dip for an appetizer. A small is plenty for two people in my opinion. Lastly they have a great selection of locals beers! Stopped in on a busy Friday night and was very disappointed. The kitchen was backed up and it took at least 45 minutes to get our food. I wasn't timing when we placed our order and when we got our food but we were there an hour and a half and we weren't sitting around drinking beer before or afterwards. The food was not hot - warm at best - initial thought when it arrived was it had been under the heat lamp for 15 minutes because the interior meat on the sandwich was cold. I ordered chips and they were cold, tough, and greasy (wet). I did not send them back because I was afraid it would be another 45 minutes. I was very disappointed because the chips were not crispy. How you make a make tough a chip tough can only be because it is undercooked, cold and greasy. It is really sad because Hickory Tavern has a good model. I am sure they will say it is because they can't find help - short handed. I am so tired of hearing this excuse. Wake up because if you continue to go down this road and never change or try to figure out the problem the customers will vote and you will go out of business. Came at 7:30 on a Tuesday evening. It was fairly busy but plenty of open tables. Got seated right away. The items on the menus look like there is potential. After sitting at the table for 10 minutes and not being acknowledged we left. As we stood and walked out I saw two waiters look at us but no one said a word. The hostess seemed to not even notice that 2 people she just sat were walking out the door. The atmosphere was also extremely noisy. The music was awful and excessively loud for 7:30 on a Tuesday evening. Oh well. So much for that. read more

I promised myself, and the Manager, that I would never be back after my last experience. However, my daughter wanted to eat here tonight and I was sure that it couldn't be that bad again...wrong!!! We were sat right away and then it went down hill. We ordered drinks, which took us about 15-20 minutes to get. We ordered the spinach dip appetizer. The chips were awful, they were raw and cold. We ordered dinner as soon as the appetizer came out and waited 45 minutes for it to come out. It took us so long to get it that we got it to go. The server was very nice, but knew that we were NOT happy with the experience. The thing that amazes me the most is that we NEVER had a Manager come and check on us, before, during or after and we were there for about an hour. It is a complete miracle that this place is still in business. By far the worst restaurant in town. Please save your money, at least until this place gets a competent Manager. Chose to go here over Liberty Tap Room because I just to try a new place and could not be more disappointed. My friends and I came for happy hour. We ordered well drinks which turned out to be all liquor. If we were college kids, looking for a buzz that would have been great, but we just wanted to enjoy drinks and dinner. Our waitress was absent minded with us and spent most of her time in the kitchen hanging out with other staff. I'm all about having fun on the job, but check on your customers. My friend's water was empty for a while until the kitchen manager came by and offered to fill it. All of a sudden our waitress showed up and took care of it. I ordered the Ruben. The meat was rubbery and the sauerkraut was unappetizing. I took two bites of my sandwich and ate my french fries which were half cooked. The waitress saw all the food left on my plate and did not offer me a box or ask me if I like my sandwich. I paid $18 for a drink I drank half of, undercooked potatoes and unappetizing sandwich. Next time, I'll probably just stick with Liberty. If you give the place a try, get the sweet potato fries (my friend enjoyed them) and skip the Ruben. read more

Party of 4, went to hostess, empty tables everywhere inside and outside, was told management said we couldn't be seated because they were short staffed and it would be a 20 minute wait. We asked if we could just sit at an empty table inside or outside with a glass of water while we waited. They said management said no. While waiting outside another table of 4 was seated immediately and a waitress went to them immediately. After 20 minutes, we went back in after seeing several people leave and was told the wait just jumped up to 1 hour! Needless to say, we left. I understand places are short staffed (and I definitely understand why!!) but how much sense does it make to not let someone sit down and wait!! And I called and talked to whoever was "the managers assistant" because the manager was busy and told him to make sure he let his manager know his policy makes zero sense! read more

Major disappointment. For an appetizer we had the crab dip. The amount of pickles in that dip made it so vinegary and sour we took two bites and sent it back. They put so many pickles it should have been called pickle dip because I saw hardly any crab. I ordered a lobster roll with sweet potato fries. The lobster roll came out separately about 7 mins prior to my fries. The lobster was not fresh because it was tough and dry. Why would the fries not come out with the roll especially since the lobster salad is premade. They also put lettuce in the lobster roll, and I have no idea why, perhaps as filler. The bun on my roll was so badly beaten up I asked for a new roll and stuffed it myself. See the attached photo of how my meal was delivered. It really is unbelievable. The service was also terribly slow as this place is understaffed. I don't have to tell you about the bad service because there is a plethora of reviews about that. I DoorDash'd a Cuban sandwich after a rough work week and I have to say this is the most bullshit excuse of a sandwich I've ever had. It's literally ham lunch meat from the fridge section at Walmart, stale bread, fries completely soggy. *With the prices they charge, someone needs to let someone know they need to get their shit together as far as what ingredients are used and how the food is prepared. I've gotten food from hickory tavern 3 times (hoping for redemption because the menu is tempting) and it's been straight up garbage every time. Was here on two separate occasions. Once for dinner and once for drinks and bar food. Bar was exceptional, service, drinks, food, all amazing. However, when I went for dinner, my server was slow, hardly anyone in the place at the time. But even though service was not as fast as I would have liked, she was friendly and made up for it by joking around with me. The food was good, but a little expensive for what you get. My husband and I came here for a day date so it wasn't packed at all which was great. I'm a little over excited when it comes to being able to build my own salad at a restaurant and that's what really sold this place for me. The salad portion was bigger than I expected and they allow you to choose 6 toppings (included in price of salad) which was more than enough. All of the toppings were fresh and the avocado was probably the best I've had at one of the local restaurants. These toppings are the top of food chain fancy toppings, not the usual cafeteria offerings, so your girl splurged on bacon and avocados. She was super attentive and extremely nice, if our food or drinks were taking more time then usual she would come let us know and make sure we didn't need anything else while we waited. On March 21 I ordered several meals for $94 dollars through Doordash. Hickory was terrible service. The order delivered was minus an entire bag - 3 meals!! The doordash runner went back to the restaurant. I was unable to reach them by phone - I too drove to the restaurant. The 2nd bag was there - it had not been given to the doordash runner. The hostess also refused to give me the bag - I asked for a manager. The meals that were delivered were subpar. In fact the BBQ nachos didn't have queso on them?! The salad didn't have the meat. The manager offered to refund the $94. I'm thinking great .. but it never happened! $100 meal through doordash - and I spent an hour of my time driving to bring home cold food. No one would answer the phone when I called about the refund. I go to the restaurant giving the 7-10 business day period to pass and they have zero record of any promise to refund the meal. Very disappointed and angry. We ordered 8 medium wings and the lady told me they come with a side so I said wing chips. This is what they gave us. Two tortilla chips?? The wings also had basically no sauce and some were medium flavored some were something else like honey barbecue or teriyaki? I had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance to. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't anything to write home about either. I ordered the wings which were recommended by a family member, and they tasted alright but they were very small. This place is way too pricey for the quality of food you get. My wife ordered the hamburger medium rare it came out rare, very very rare. That was after they had already burned her first hamburger to the point where they wouldn't even bring it out. Definitely do not come here if you're in a hurry because the service is incredibly slow. Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. There was even one waiter doing ballet, so there was that... it was weird to eat wings and see someone doing a pirouette out the corner of your eye. I definitely don't see myself coming back here, on a positive note, it is right beside MOD Pizza and that place is delicious. read more

I had a bad experience the last time I came here, and posted a review about it. The restaurant contacted me and I promised to visit again. I took a crew there last evening and had a much better experience. The wait staff, and manager, were quite attentive. I had a delicious peachy beer and a succulent shrimp po-boy. Each of us enjoyed what we ordered--burgers, salads, and yes, brussel sprouts. I appreciate the restaurant wanting me to have a corrective experience and I HAD that last night. Every time I get a new server but the service continues to stay awful typically in the form of forgetting that I put in an order and never bringing it or never checking in on me to see if we're ok. I'm out Of town on business. I dined solo tonight at Hickory Tavern. I had previously dined at several locations in the Rock Hill and Charlotte area. I have always enjoyed their menu especially the shrimp tacos and the Brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar. This evening I had an exceptional experience! The exceptional experience was the service. Eric B was my server and was an absolute delight. He made excellent menu recommendations, was very attentive, and genuinely seemed to want to make my dining experience above and beyond. New fav place. There has so much space in here. The waiter was great and everybody was friendly. I had the chicken sandwich with a few alcoholic drinks. There are tvs at every angle so you will not miss anything. This place was reasonable and there is plenty of parking and outdoor seating. read more
