Let's just say I've seen my fair share plumbers. I've even been fired by one of their competitors - yes, they fired me, and I was their customer! That said, I screwed up an InSinkerator replacement and garnered a few leaks. We have a party this weekend so needless to say, we needed the sink back in full functioning order. I called Hicks Plumbing late the other night and they showed up bright and early today. Scheduling was a breeze. The plumber who arrived was amazing. Super Nice guy. Not sure what the other bad reviews are about. Super professional but also figured out right away that I like to be handy (much to my own plumbing fixtures detriment), so he volunteered that I could watch over his shoulder if I wanted. That was pretty awesome. Usually I get kicked out of the room. He explained everything that was going on as he worked, and even complemented my own handiwork... though realistically I knew he shouldn't have. Above and beyond all else he gave excellent service. Despite fixing the problem, he wasn't yet satisfied with the appearance (I certainly was - you haven't seen my other handiwork), so he redid and fine tuned his work just to make sure it was beautiful. It's not often you get to see someone take their craft like a work of art, but this guy did. I am truly impressed. Hicks Plumbing knows how to find good talent. Ps - I asked their plumber how he felt about working for Hicks plumbing and I was genuinely surprised with the answer. He was giddy. He said he felt "spoiled". Great guys, were able to help me out same day when I called in the morning. Helped quickly diagnose and fix a leaking and backed up kitchen drain pipe due to too much being thrown down the garbage disposal. Troubleshooted some simpler options prior to snaking the line to save me money and were able to use my existing line with a new gasket to get me back up and running. Would recommend them in a heartbeat - honest, down to earth, and super knowledgable - even showed me a few things around the house I could do myself. Superb service! Adam was fantastic. I developed a water leak into my basement this weekend. It destroyed a fair amount of sheetrock. I ripped it out to find the spot the water was coming from the floor above. Called Hicks. Adam came out looked at the spot I found and then used his detective skills to isolate the real leak was coming from not that spot but in the walls in the kitchen about 4 feet to the left of the spot where you could see a leak. He fixed it promptly. Great courteous service willing to provide service the same day. Again great company and service. I would recommend them in the highest terms possible. read more

Probably the single best experience that I've had working with a plumbing company. I had to have my hot water heater replaced very late on a Friday night right before a snow storm. This is my first time experiencing a water line breakage out side my house that is underground. I received 3 estimates from different plumbers, hicks was the least expensive by 2 grand and yes they installed copper pipes. I have heard good news about hicks so I went with them, and what I heard is true, the job was scheduled for 1 day but there where multiple issue with removing the old plastic pipes and it rained. Hicks had to dig multiple holes and it required 2 days of work. Hicks team worked very hard and got the job done. They replaced the plastic pipe from under ground which was about 60 feet from the city meter to my house. Kevin, Tony and Marco got dirty with all that digging but took the time out to place shoe coverings to keep my house clean. The Friday before the long Labor Day Weekend holiday, my shower faucet wouldn't shut off ... it had been a long-standing problem, that I kept waiting until I could "afford" to fix it; I could always "jimmy" it off, but, not this day. As I was on hold with a well-known 24/7 plumbing services for over 10 minutes, I kept googling plumbers, desperate to find someone who could help me. I stumbled across Hicks; they answered the phone (amazing these days!!!) at 10:30 am ... and by noon, had Adam (great guy!) out fixing the problem. After many basement shower & toilet backups in our 1960 house & other plumbers snaking out the clogs, we learned the sewer pipe from our house to the street had roots in it and was very corroded. This can be an $11K job to replace 1950s era orangeburg pipe made of cardboard to save WWII iron. Hicks Plumbing has a less expensive technique and the job was done with as little front yard digging as possible. We are very happy with the results, cost, and quality of the service. I have used Hicks Plumbing and have had fantastic results. A broken pipe behind my kitchen caused a leak into my (finished) downstairs family room. After big rains, my outside drains at the bottom of my walk-up stairs drain not fast enough and cause flooding of my basement. I called Hicks today when my basement floods again . At first , Tony tried to snake the outside drain but it did not work and there was no water flowing into the sump. With his experience and his hi-tech tool, Tony thought the drain pipe ends just out side the Sump wall and not flowing into the sump for the pump to work. Tony used a cutting tool to cut thru the sump plastic wall. Sure enough, muddy water started pouring out into the sump. I used my fingers to confirm that there was indeed a 3'' pipe right at the hole. Tony said he has seen this careless installation in several houses. I have used Hicks twice before. For small basic jobs like faucet fixing, Hicks may be expensive. But for difficult jobs like this, Hicks is worth every penny. Hicks has all the sophisticated tools like cameras, line tracer that a regular plumber does not have. I wish that i had called Hicks sooner on this problem. read more

Hick's Plumbing claims to be a 24 hour emergency plumbing service. However, do not expect them to show up if you have an actual "after hour" emergency. The only after hour appointment that the kept was at 6:30 in the evening and they charged me over $350 to tighten a socket on my kitchen faucet extender. Tony said "he felt bad" that he had to charge me so much for such a simple fix. He took longer to writeup the invoice than he did to diagnose the issue and fix it. I had Hick's come during normal business hours to snake a drain and they charged me the same supposed "after hours" rate of $350. Meanwhile, I had a true emergency at 12:00 a.m on a Sunday night and Hick's said they couldn't show up until after 8:00 a.m. I had another vendor come out, diagnose water that was leaking into the wall in my home. They had to cut into drywall and diagnose the compromised area - they charged me $220. I will never utilize Hick's Plumbing again. They over charge and are not 24 emergency plumbing services - as advertised. read more

We discovered that we had a broken sewer pipe on Saturday morning, and we had the Dominion Power Sewer Line Repair Program, so we put in a claim with Dominion and they selected Hicks Plumbing to do the work. (see notes below regarding Dominion's program.) Mr. Hicks was extremely polite, efficient, and professional, but also very busy. After confirming the problem on Sunday and getting Dominion Power's OK to do the work on Monday, he came out to our house to start at about 4:30 p.m. and finished the job around 7:00 p.m. We didn't think that he was going to show up so late in the day, but he said that he would be out on Monday, and he kept his word. I think that he also did a good job in trying to put my front yard back together as much as possible after digging about 6 feet down and about 12 feet out from the house to expose and repair the sewer pipe. He even answered my numerous questions while he worked. I would not hesitate to use Hicks Plumbing again in the future, and I would not hesitate in recommending them to others. Regarding Dominion: You really have to read the fine print to know exactly what you're going to get and not get if you need them to fix a broken sewer pipe. We discovered the problem on Saturday morning. We immediately called Dominion, only to find out that they don't perform the work on weekends. They don't recognize what I would call an "emergency." (I guess that every broken sewer pipe is an "emergency") They did take our claim on Saturday, and Mr. Hicks came out to confirm the problem on Sunday, but Dominion didn't have anybody in the office to authorize the work until Monday, and the OK didn't happen until about noon or a little later. The good news was that Dominion covered the entire cost of the work - we paid $0.00 (except for the monthly premiums, of course.) Our neighbor paid between $5,000 and $6,000 when their pipe broke, and the plumber's work took 2 days. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Dominion contracted this company to us for a water line leak and they have been a nightmare to deal with. It's a shame that Dominion states that they use trusted and reliable contractors, but then send out the opposite. Hicks was supposed to fix a water line leak, but cut through additional lines and generated a nice bill from the HOA to us. They are now claiming they are not responsible after the owner stated that he would pay the bill. They do not return phone calls and their customer service is anything but. The owner's wife handles his calls and to say that she is unprofessional is an understatement. PLEASE choose another company and do not put yourself through the headache of Hicks. There should be an option for zero stars, as that is what this company deserves. read more

We just had them come to our house for a clogged pipe. We have a service agreement with Dominion Power. Before they would do anything they informed us we had to pay to have the toilet pulled. My husband showed them that the clean out valve was under the house. Our house is on a crawl space not a full basement. Immediately the guy said it was not accessible. He didn't even look. We had a water piper burst in our front yard and Mr. Hicks did an awesome job for a very reasonable price. It burst around 3 a.m., the water company shut off the water around 10a.m. and said it's on your property-go fix it. My husband had tried another company first, but they didn't do underground work and they recommended Hick's Plumbing. Mr. Hicks wasn't able to get to our house until around 6p.m., he gave us an estimate with a very reasonable price (that was confirmed by our friend who does construction management). We asked Mr. Hicks when he could come do the work, and made a call and then completed the work on the spot!!! He started work around 6:45 and we had water in our house by 8:30! read more

Bad news: (1) outrageous price and (2) very strange discussion on money, being a plumber, and his net worth. Yep, he volunteered how wealthy he is while I stroke a check for over $700 - - for a job that took only 30 minutes. I felt like a sucker. ((What ever happened to 'an honest wage for honest work'?)) Wow, this gets even worse! The estimator came back to put back the sink, and presented a bill charging me $350 for their "extra" to replace a $10 leaking shut off valve. Hello: $350?!! He claimed their Mexican told me it would be an extra, which I agreed to and agreed to their $350 additional cost. This is totally preposterous, but the guy had got me to sign an I-pod blank screen before he originally started the job, on the pretext that I was "approving the work." This was totally before they invented the "leaking valve." No hard copy of any of this was or has been provided, but he showed me a doctored I-pod screen showing the $1850 price. Also, the guy contended that their minimum charge was $1500 to do any work whatsoever, and he had told me this. BEWARE: SCAM, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS OUTFIT. read more

Took them just 10 min. to figure out that the water is coming from my neighbor's place and it happened to be the truth. I took quote from Hicks few days before and fixed the date for friday 12-2 pm but showed up at near 8 PM. So they purposely took more than they can handle to capture by business. Considering lack of other alternative i gave go ahead and job done around 11 PM. They don't take weekend schedule but called to charge in my credit card on saturday and the lady in the phone was unprofessional and rude. Since they show up late i lost whole day of work to wait for their promised time 12-2 PM. They even denied to honor all the coupons explaining tricky way. They have me signed waiver for all liabilities but i did not even know they have insurance for accident of employee or any business casualties. I did not see they have written insured. No one wants to pay for plumbing expenses but it's one of those homeownership things that you just have to do. We've used Hicks twice now with positive results both times. The first time we used Hicks was shortly after we purchased our home. The sump pump failed and the basement flooded. Our home inspector recommended Hicks Plumbing and they did a great job in an emergency situation with no crazy upcharge. The second time was a follow up to the first. We found a drainage issue during the first visit. We got an estimate from Tony and had his team take care of the work. It was done quickly and they were very professional. They had to come back for one adjustment but after that work and adjustment our basement is showing the lowest humidity readings we've taken since we purchased the home (even with three feet of snow melting against the side of the house). When they came back to make an adjustment they noticed that the gutter on the roof my be clogged and pointed that out, they didn't have to mention that but I appreciate the assist in trying to fully resolve this issue. They have been responsive and while I do not love paying for things like this the prices have seemed reasonable. Most importantly the work (again, not something I wanted to spend money on) has been worth every penny; I've seen positive results that will allow our home (and investment) to be well cared for. We'll definitely use Hicks again and continue to refer friend to them. read more

I needed a new hot water heater, which Hicks Plumbing installed, however, they did not include an expansion tank although my old unit had one. I wasn't really given an explanation as to "why not" so I'm a little unsure if the current unit will work well in the long term. In addition, while the workers used booties to keep my carpeting clean, they did not clean up after themselves. For example, they left one of my towels, sopping wet, on the floor by the new unit. One of the workers, who understandably was hot and sweaty after a long workday in the summer, also sat on my sofa at one point. I personally do not sit on my own sofa when I'm hot and sweaty, and I really didn't appreciate that he thought to make himself at home in that way. Finally, I never could get Hicks to send me an accurate invoice for the work done and paid for that reflected the actual unit installed and my correct address. read more
