I can't recommend this place enough. Me and a few friends stumbled upon it while we were walking around DTLA looking to get a consultation. We walked in pretty late and Sketch took our number down and kept in contact with us until he was able to take us in. We were in his studio for a solid three hours from the start of the process to the end (not because he took a long time but because we were so indecisive) and he was so chill about it. He spent a majority of that time working with us to draw out and plan each tattoo and was so patient even when we wanted to change the placement or the size by just a hair. I also really appreciate how professional and courteous Sketch was. I got a tattoo on my ribs and he made sure that no one else could come in while he was working on mine. This was my first tattoo so I was pretty nervous going in but Sketch's patience and reassurance were so helpful. I had checked out a few other shops and I always walked out unsure about whether or not I wanted to go for it but the moment I sat down to talk with Sketch I knew I was in good hands. And he made it so clear that he could sketch it out for us but there was no pressure -- we absolutely didn't have to get it if we weren't comfortable. So I always wanted to get a full back tattoo, but as my 6 old tattoos are placed in a way that was so hard to cover, many tattoo artists refused to step up and do it. Very disappointed. Paid a deposit and talked with Sketch about how he would start to draw out designs prior to the appointment. He never provided ideas and designs as he promised he would. Scheduling the appointment was difficult, and I started to get worried that he took my money without any intention of scheduling the appointment because he was not responding to email and he was not providing the preliminary designs. Finally was able to schedule an appointment. The day of the appointment, Sketch changed the time to later in the day at the last minute, which did not work for me. He then said that the deposit was non-refundable because I didn't show up. Super shady, unreliable, and does not keep his word. Beware. read more

I wish I could give this place 10 stars!!! I'll start by saying that I was with two friends of mine, all of us college-aged girls who had never gotten a tattoo before. We had been to three other tattoo studios in downtown LA before this one and we had almost given up hope at this point. We couldn't find a place that made us feel comfortable. We found Sketch Tattoos by chance and it was such a miracle!! Sketch was amazing. He could tell how nervous we were and he was incredibly patient and kind as he explained that we could simply sit down and talk with him about it and draw out some ideas and we wouldn't have to actually get it done. He never judged us for being so scared or wanting smaller tattoos. He sat with us for about an hour and a half talking about our ideas, making drawings, and giving us advice about placement. He was encouraging and patient the entire time! Even after all this time, he still kept telling us not to feel pressured into getting the tattoos. When we decided to get them, he put us at ease by joking and staying very calm. He is also extremely clean and organized!!! I was so impressed with how he wiped down all surfaces before and after clients, wrapping everything in clean plastic in between everyone. And the tattoos couldn't be more perfect!!
