We love this place. We happened to find it on Yelp while driving through town and decided to try it. It is kind of a local bar. They say old gold mine shafts are behind its walls. The walls are covered with dollar bills. We decided to try the french dip. Wow!! It was a smoked prime rib. I think it was the best we have ever had! They had a good selection of draft beer too! Food is delicious. Service is excellent. We ate outside on a picnic table with our policy, Baxter, who was even allowed inside.

I'm giving a 3 mostly because I heard they have good live bands. We went for brunch, which I will give a 1, I should have know when we went in what to expect, I love a good dive bar,, but probably should have know better than to eat at one. Eggs Benedict; egg yolks cooked solid with watery hollandaise sauce, plate served cold. Bloody Mary was an ok price but half the size of a typical $8 drink. No soap in bathroom trash full and they just opened. Smoking section is up entrance stairs with a big full bucket of butts in front of cute shops (that aren't pleased with the bucket of filth, small towns do talk). Personally I didn't like all the defaced money on the walls, but guess that's their thing. Side note, when I write a bad review I always do 2 good reviews for my positive experiences elsewhere. We ordered takeout and it took almost 2 hours to come out when it wasn't even busy! The staff was rude when we asked for an update on the food as well. Ok...so I'm rarely inspired to Yelp. Call me a Yelp voyeur. I this case, I have been inspired. Literally an underground "dive bar" in historic Mariposa, I came thinking a fun place to grab a beer and hopefully some bar food. What I stumbled into was a great beer on tap selection (huge range) and food representing the best bbq I have had East of highway 99. The French dip is crazy but the tri-tip sandwich (cowpoke) might be my favorite (so far). Finally, the fries are something you will never find anywhere else (and you will wish you could!). Can't wait to come back for more! It's hard to find since it's in the back of the main drag...but please find The Hideout...you won't regret it! read more

The Hideout takes a little work to find (the door is around the back of the building) but, man, it was worth it. Very cool old school bar. But what made it great? The food. We had the fish tacos. We live in SoCal, so we eat a lot of fish tacos. These were the best ever. Even the tortilla was delicious. And we had the French dip sandwich with their own smoked meat. My wife just called to place a pick up order and was put on hold twice by an incredibly rude employee. After she was finally able to tell the woman on the phone our order the woman asked for a credit card number. My wife asked if she could just pay in person and the employee responded with "do I know you?". My wife responds "no why?" And the woman responds " either I know you or I'm not paying for your food". I'm not even sure what that means but my wife hung up the phone and we are going elsewhere. This is a great little gem of a divey-ish bar. For those of you that are curious about speak easies or dive bars, consider this Training Wheels. This staff will ease you the learning that you will need as you venture into a Dark Side. The staff have such great individual personalities that may rub the thinner skinned a little rough, but dammit, your delicious pizza and great tacos more than make up for not having your order done immediately. RUN, Don't walk away from this Establishment!!! I give it one star only because they were open after traffic coming out of Yosemite made us arrive after everything else was closed. Otherwise there was nothing I can say positive about this place. Yes the bartender said the food would take some time, that there were orders ahead of us. What he didn't say was that it would be almost an hour and half to not even get out full order and watch others who came in after us get their food. The positive side is that none of us got food poisoning. The ketchup packets may have been from the 1900s - the ketchup didn't have any hint of red in it. Terrible terrible terrible. On a Sunday night we waited more than 20 minutes for our first round of beers. The place was NOT crowded. We ordered 2 plates of the mozzarella sticks, one Philly cheesesteak sandwich (hold the peppers with a side of potato salad), one order of the spicy shrimp and 2 orders of wings. One order of the mozzarella sticks came after 20 minutes. The cheese sticks were not hot and the requested blue cheese dressing was actually ranch dressing. We were considering leaving after a total of 45+ minutes when the Philly cheesesteak sandwich finally came WITH bell peppers and macaroni salad; recall we had asked to "hold the bell peppers and a side of potato salad". The second order of mozzarella sticks were no hotter than the first. The two orders of hot wings included a grand total of 8 wings. Total. All in all, very disappointing. The rap /hip-hop music was loud and incongruous with the old time ambience. WAP is not what I came to hear. We've been to this place before for a cold beer after a day in the park. I would not recommend giving them your business. I called in to order carry out, spoke with a very nice gentleman who told me the wait would be 45 minutes but it could be 50 or 55 minutes. That was totally fine and understandable as it was a Sunday night. I took my time, ran some errands and showed up to the bar to pick it up after waiting the 50 minutes recommended. When I got to the bar to pay for the food, the girl went to go check on it, came back and said that they HAD NOT EVEN STARTED IT and that it would be ANOTHER 45 MINUTES before it would be ready! The problem is that the restaurant wasn't even that busy there were plenty of empty tables and people leaving. We canceled the order and have recommended to our local friends that don't dine there. This is an amazing place with nice vibe and great food. I remember arriving here pretty late from Yoshimite Valley and this is one of few places which remains open till late night and serve great food. You have live music and vibe if you choose to sit inside and rather calmer and serene places to sit outside. Their drinks are great too. One of the unique this about this gastro pub is that you can take a dollar note and write your name and they will stick it to their wall. I think that's kinda cool. read more

This place rules. Small bar with lots of vegan options and very vegan friendly. And when I say vegan friendly I mean they care about giving you good food not just vegan food. so nice and a real local vibe. It's a place to soak into the vibe and relax, which is intentional and really appreciated. When there are employees hanging out on their off time you know it's a nice community. This place is awesome! We were in Yosemite all day and got back to our air bnb late. By the time we could pick food up, we called 3 places and everywhere said they closed at 8pm when online all those places said they closed at 9pm. We didn't have food since at an Airbnb so our last hope was a frozen pizza at a local grocery store. Then I saw reviews and took a chance on hideout saloon- they were so friendly and were open and we could get food! So we ordered a pizza, "big ole" salad, and pasta to go. We wanted to eat there and didn't know they were open. They welcomed us with open arms. Best service and so many nice customers. I can't say enough great things. Now for the food, best food we had in a while! We went back twice. Their salads are amazing- my fave is the Mediterranean. My buds and I chose to go to the Hideout Saloon based on the overall rating of this bar after a long day Yosemite. Huge letdown. Ambiance wasn't our scene but it was definitely unique. 1 crappy tv that doesn't show anything you'd want to watch for a bar. Waitress didn't communicate how we order, just handed us a menu and left the bar to go outside and have a drink. Waited maybe 20 mins before we figured we order at the bar. As a table we ordered the loaded nachos, and mozzarella sticks. Mozzarella sticks were super soggy, some with all of the cheese outside of the stick. They probably just microwaved them from frozen and then served them. The nachos were the worst nachos you could imagine. Cheese was the consistency of plastic. It literally glued together my nachos and I couldn't break it apart, the chips would just break. It's like the put fresh cheese on the chips, set it in the oven or warmer for 5hours until someone ordered it. I'm sure they have great beers but their food is nothing to stop by here for. My friends and I should have walked out but we were dead tired and hopeful for good food, now we know. If this review helps one person not go through what we did, I'll consider it a success. read more

The hideout was amazing. The Baja shrimp tacos were some of the best tacos I have ever had in my life, also the bartender Mrs. Theresa was amazing. She made me the best mixed drinks I have ever had. One had vanilla vodka, cherry, and black raspberry as well as her own little touch to it and it was to die for. She made me another drink similar to that one and it was just as good. This truly is a hide-out. Stumbled upon this place over 15 years ago and it was much smaller so given the chance we tried to find again so many years later. Its changed and gotten bigger but it is still a old time looking saloon with hundreds of dollar bills crammed into the rock walls, ceiling etc. Have never tried the food but nice beer selection with percentage of alcohol in each on the wall and a good list of mixed drinks. You can easily get lost and spend the afternoon in here if not careful because its dark and cool. Recommend coming here for a expensive, casual drink atmosphere. read more

Oddly enough, I went for the food. Absolutely phenomenal!! Nice little hidden bar in a sleepy town with awesome food. Unique decor (dollars paint the walls and ceilings) and the floors make me think original hardwood, very unique and full of character!! It's a small little place, but the food was huge!! I ordered tater skins which arrived with their own signature twist, it was like a combination of a spear cut potato slices with twice baked mash on top, covered with green onions, bacon, chives, cheese, and a side of sour cream. My husband went in for a drink. We looked at the menu and Lemon Drops were $9. My husband ordered 2 Lemon Drops and chips and salsa. He doesn't remember what he paid. I went to the bar and ordered 2 more Lemon Drops and was charged $28!!! Bartender, Anthony, beware!! I ?'ed the $28, and was told the prices in the menu were way outdated, that the owner was way behind in updating the menue that I needed to add at least $3 to each item!! I told him, "that's false advertisement!" When is the Owner in? He comes in here and there, I don't know. Back to my table and the first sip of the Lemon Drop was to sweet and no alcohol! What the heck?? I was CHARGED, $14/ Lemon Drop and we left 1/4 of it sitting on the table because it was so awful!! Welcome to The Hideout Saloon in Mariposa, CA!! When they named it hideout they weren't kidding. It's located behold a building along CA-140 with a sign and arrow pointing the way. The eclectic atmosphere with dollar bills all over the wall from patrons is something I've never seen before. The staff is friendly and food lived up to the 4.8 rating that led us to seek it out. All the BBQ meats for the sandwich are smoked in house and my wife's BBQ chicken was delicious. The fried pickles were good as well as the fries. My pizza was good with the crust being in between regular and deep dish in texture. Solid craft beer selection on draft as well. read more
