I can't think of a more iconic location to stop by when traveling though Mariposa County. A Hide out saloon in a historical gold era town. It does feel like you're in a step back in time when you're in the pub. It's partly tucked away around the corner, keeping it hidden from street's main sight. As you walk around half confused, you go through a gate leading you down stairs to the saloon, Inside you'll find, decorated filled wooden and stone pub cave. Pool table, juke box, vintage jenga, arcade machine, open mic, dear head sticking out, wooden bar stool all over, and every opened spot decorated with dollar bills on the walls. They have a broad food menu, enough to make this pub experience a casual dinning spot. To my surprise, they even had beyond burger option. This is far from just a saloon, but an experience you might find on your next trip to Yosemite. read more

We walked in at around 5:30pm on a Saturday. Sat ourselves, then just waited. No one ever acknowledged us. We saw a lady bring out food to another table. She walked right by us and didn't say a word. Then a guy who was sitting at the bar, went behind the bar to do something. The lady who was working was messing with the music. There were 3 empty tables so it was not busy. No people coming in or out for pickup orders either. We were there for food, and it didn't seem likely we were ever going to get menus. Not a good sign for the actual food coming out in any acceptable amount of time. There was a table near us with menus, and they sat there the entire time we were there, without having ordered any food because they did not have anyone check on them either. So, we ended up leaving to find a place where we could actually get served food, or at least acknowledged. read more

Bartenders are friendly and fun, food and booze is top notch and unexpectedly fresh, and the atmosphere is fantastic. DON'T PASS THIS ONE UP!!' I haven't been to the Hide Out in years.... I'd been hearing they added a full food menu and were smoking a lot of their meats. Finally stopped in for lunch today. Got the Philly Cheesesteak which comes with a side pasta salad and fresh made pickles. It was all so good I couldn't stop eating! Normally the Philly comes with Provolone and a house cheese sauce. They were out of the cheese sauce which was no biggie for me. Oh Y'all! That smoked flavor of the meat came through and was so tasty; I didn't need a cheese sauce or any condiments. And I'm a condiment girl! The pasta salad was a nice change to everyone else's side of fries. Those pickles; they almost stole the show!!! While waiting I tried a sample from the large list of drafts on tap. I'm really into ambers and they had a couple reds on tap. The gentleman next to me was drinking one and recommended it; wish I could remember the name. It was fabulous! It was one they try to keep around so I'll for sure be having it when they have it on the line up. So the place it's self.... They have opened it and made it brighter inside and I swear larger than when I was there last several years back during a parade in town. The location is on the backside of the main drag, almost a basement if you will built into the side of the hill. Brick lined walls with lots of dollars signed and adhered all over. It's very quaint and full of small town charm. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a drink and some yummy food. I'll for sure be back.... At first we couldn't quite figure goût how to find this place and we're staring at a building that most definitely wasn't a bar-added to the ambiance and fun when we 'found it' and went downstairs. Fun ambiance, excellent bartenders-the kind that say what kind of alcohol, sweetness, fruit levels do you like and make you something. Old fashioned was awesome as were the other cocktails we tried. Good variety of beer on tap. Food was also good-we tried the shrimp, fish n' chips, tri-tip sandwiches. All tasty. Everyone was friendly-pool table, pac man and board games. We had a lot of fun sitting outside talking and laughing with our kids. They do need a bit more help in the kitchen, but seems like everyone is short staffed. Would go back. read more

Don't miss out on the cool experience in Hideout! It's easy to miss from the main street, so keep your eyes peeled for the signs. It's actually probably easiest to find this place by turning down 5th and taking advantage of the parking back there. You'll find this spot tucked away but you'll be glad you did! The Hideout is a full bar, but is heaven for a beer lover. They offer all kinds of interesting beers on tap and in cans. Asks for tastes of what they've got on the rotating tap and see if you have a new favorite! I've only sat at the bar, but it makes for a good time. Learn about the history of the town and how to play a new dice game. They've got plenty of games around for you to play with friends. The vibe here is awesome and you'll feel like you're at home. Speaking of history....I learned that the stone wall that spans most of the place is the same wall that runs through the city underground and it's one of the first walls of the city. You'll also notice a ton of dollars hanging on the walls throughout. In the gold panning days they'd leave a dollar on the wall with their name on it. If they struck gold they wouldn't come back but if they didn't, they'd come back and be like yo I need beer and food so they'd put their dollar towards that. Pretty cool, right? They serve food! And it's goooood. The menu isn't expansive, but what you do order you can be sure will be tasty. A good starter is the potato skins and whatever entree you order, just make the sticky rice your side. Had the Baja style shrimp taco special. Grilled shrimp on corn tortillas with a spicy slaw. So yummy! My companions with no dietary restrictions enjoyed the prime rib au jus, cheese omelette and eggs with sausage. Teresa cheerfully and expertly served us. She told us the story of the stone wall. On our way to Yosemite, my husband and I stopped for some food and we loved it. It was very hot outside and the cold beer they have was amazing. Diana helped us with our order and she was very friendly and attentive. There was a gentleman - I believe the owner- who welcomed us and he was very freindly as well. My husband was celebrating his birthday and he loved our stop there. This is a small hip bar in Mariposa , the only place open after 10 pm. The drinks are amazing , bar tenders are very attentive to detail, from the rim to garnish to fresh peels. Ordered chef salad. Took more than 30 minutes to serve and the greens are wilted, browning, not fresh. The bar tender even made an excuse that it will typically takes longer to make the food since they're not fast food. Considering the salad is straight from the package that's probably in their fridge for a week. Very unappetizing and the drinks are not good. The only best thing is all the decor. Came as a visitor in Yosemite and found this unique bar in the area. First night on a Wednesday Jessie was working that bar. We came in a bit late and the kitchen was already closed, but she offered to make a pizza because it was the easiest thing to make. Our pizzas came out great along with the drinks Jessie would make for us! TIP JESSIE! She's a godsend!! Three stars because there's this sad sorry looking fellow. Almost lizard looking. He worked the bar on Thursday night and Friday night when we visited. On Thursday night, he decided to close the bar early and tell us that he didn't know how to mix drinks. We come again Friday hoping Jessie was doing the bar, but it was our lizard friend from Thursday again. Disappointing to see him again and actually mix drinks as he claimed he didn't know. He probably doesn't know because he put zip to none alcohol in it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If Jessie is working the bar, expect a great night!! Historic basement bar located in downtown Mariposa, CA. The bar is accessed from a side street. Look closely for the sign because you will have to walk a few stairs down, go through a fence, then access the bar from the back of the building. The bartender/owner told us the bar was built in 1890 during the Gold Rush and was used by Chinese immigrants as an opium den. She said over the years it was used as storage until 25 years ago when it became a bar. The beer and wine menu is small but the history and location are well worth it. The bar does have live music on certain nights. read more

My husband & I were looking for somewhere to eat after a trip to Yosemite. We decided to check this place out because it had lots of great reviews. We were not disappointed. If it weren't for Yelp we likely would've passed it by without knowing. This place is tucked away, but located right off the Main Street. Parking lot was right across the way. We shared carnitas & tri tip street tacos, the cajun shrimp & an order of fish/chips. All were deliciously flavorful, at very affordable prices. Drinks were great as well. I liked that the menu gave us a heads up that the fish & chips could take up to 30 minutes to make. In addition, our bartender/server also explained to us before ordering that they do not consider themselves to be a restaurant as they do not have a full kitchen. They do however, smoke all of their meat, which is what won us over. Loved the vibe here, good music, great food & drinks. Way more than we were expecting to find in Mariposa. Food is pretty good but we had to wait at least 40 minutes for a grilled mushroom sandwich, green salad and a hot link. We were also supposed to get a stromboli but they messed up the first cook of it so we had to wait another 17 minutes to get a "fixed" pizza. 2 glasses of ice water, a lemonade and 2 iced teas took 15 minutes. I blame this failure on the part of Jennifer, our server. She got our order wrong, put other people's drinks on our bill, and straight up forgot about us. The server on the next shift, Carissa, did an amazing job to pick up the slack and she busted her butt on our table AND the others that were supposedly Jennifer's. This place is a prime candidate for Bar Rescue. The menu is too huge to do in that tiny kitchen and the service is inconsistent. The food is good but doesn't justify the wait. FYI, the food order at one of Jennifer's other tables never even got put in. So even though we got here after them, we got our food and finished before they even found out that their order was never even given to the kitchen. They were pissed too. Some of the best-food in Mariposa!!! We got to meet chef David Lee who told us in detail about the incredible spices and the meat smoking process. The food is consistent every time we come through. Theresa is the sweetest bartender. Try the Moscow Mule's you won't regret it. The menu has so much variety and so many beers on tap everyone is bound to find something to their liking. Did I mention full bar!!! The atmosphere is the best super low key. We love it as a great lunch place, but also love stopping by for live entertainment in the weekend nights. We love this place. We happened to find it on Yelp while driving through town and decided to try it. It is kind of a local bar. They say old gold mine shafts are behind its walls. The walls are covered with dollar bills. We decided to try the french dip. Wow!! It was a smoked prime rib. I think it was the best we have ever had! They had a good selection of draft beer too!
