Ordered poolside food and drink and everything tasted great. It did initially take a few minutes to get a server to our lounge area, but once they arrived they were thorough and prompt. Food and drinks probably took less than 15 minutes which was great because it was still fresh and we were hungry. I was very disappointed with my stay, especially given the high price of $500.00 per night. For that cost, I expected a much higher level of service and amenities. Housekeeping entered the room when I put Privacy tag on door. I was unable to use the whirlpool during my visit. It was consistently occupied by children whose parents were allowing them to treat it like a play area, which made it unusable for other guests seeking a relaxing experience. There didn't appear to be any staff monitoring or enforcing appropriate use of the space. Hotel Breakfast with powder eggs and everything was cold. Overall, the experience did not justify the price, and I would not stay here again. I hope management addresses these concerns for future guest. read more

Bar drinks pricey but very good. The pay system needs to be tweaked a bit though. Hot drinks at one kiosk, close check out at another, one bar did not have ingredients to make one of the drinks etc.. We have been here several times and each time the service is hit or miss...this day it was ok (after asking a second waiter where our 1st waiter went) The food was good but be warned that the pricing here is pretty steep. We ordered these 4 things (2 of which are appetizers) and one another drink and it was over $150. (not including a tip). So, I suggest eating elsewhere first and then going out to the pool area to enjoy the rest of your time here. The view here is great... day or night. read more

We recently stayed at the Marriott Marquis Houston and decided to try the food here at the pool bar. We ordered the frito pie and the chicken quesadilla to-go and we were so pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! The prices were decent, I think one meal was $14 and the other $16. The bartender that took our order was very nice but unfortunately I think he forgot about our order and it was just sitting on the counter for a few minutes. Other than that, the food was delicious and a great spot at the hotel to just grab a quick bite to eat. If you're here, that means you're out on the terrace at the Marriott Marquis because this is the bar where you'll be ordering drinks and food when you're just lounging by the pool. I'll keep this short and simple. For a hotel/pool bar, the prices are surprisingly reasonable, except for the $4 jello shots. I mean, seriously? However, prices on everything else are pretty much on par with your typical bar. In the two days that I spent lounging on the terrace I'd ordered the High Dive burgers and the Deep Eddie pitchers. Some of my friends ordered the Refresh and margarita. My first pitcher of Deep Eddie was pretty weak so when we ordered the second time, we asked our server to tell the bartender to make it stronger. He/she did because it was so much better the second time around. My friends claimed that the margarita and the refresh were good (they used to work in the restaurant industry so I'll take their words for it). As for the High Dive burger? You get a double patty with your choice of side (fries/chips/fruits). I opted for fries. I asked for my burger to be cooked medium and they didn't mess that up. The burger also tasted better than I expected. It's nothing that would blow me away, but considering the location (hotel pool bar) and the prices, I was pleasantly surprised. Now the fries were done right! Just the right amount of salt, the right crispiness. They tasted similar to the fries served at Biggio's Sports Bar which is also attached to the hotel. Service? They have a whole bunch of tables right by the bar, or if you're lounging away from the bar, they have their servers walking around. Service would obviously take longer if you're not sitting at the tables by the bar due to distance from wherever you are to the bar, but since I was relaxing on the lounger, I didn't care much for it anyway. Yes, I'll be back to stay at the Marquis again which means I'll be back at High Dive Bar and I'm okay with it. read more

My highlight of my trip visiting Houston was ALICIA . Her customer service was exceptionally outstanding. Alicia had great energy she was friendly and moved quickly while efficiently while making our drinks. The tequila sunrise was amazing her Pina colada was awesome and made a spectacular margarita. I travel alot and love to see when there is an energetic and vibrant employee. I hope the Marriott Marquis Houston appreciates this employee it is extremely hard to find good service any more and I appreciated the great customer. With quite possibly the coolest pool terrace around, High Dive is a great compliment that slings potent drinks and delicious poolside bites. I am a sucker for frozen drinks, and this place has plenty on offer. What is really cool is that they don't serve their drinks in glass so that you can take them in the pool with you. High dive bar is far superior to most hotel poolside bar and restaurants I have tried. It seems everything at this Marriott Marquis was better than average. I was enjoying the sun in my lounge chair next to the rooftop lazy river when I realized I needed to replenish. It seemed like it would take a while to get service due to the crowd. I couldn't imagine if it had filled to capacity. None the less I made my way over to the bar, and Thomas greeted me right away. He was quick on his feet and helped with any question I had. I was impressed at the speedy pace everything behind the bar was being done. After getting my drinks, he said it would be about ten minutes to get my food. When I returned for the pickup, he noticed me right away and promptly sent someone to check for my order. Much to my surprise, there it was without delay. As for the menu, it's nothing crazy. They stick to a few basics and do them well. They are also reasonably priced in my opinion for the convenience. I would hope they don't raise the price because it really is nice for those of us balling on a budget. All the food came out fresh and hot. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich. It was perfectly cooked and the brioche bun was so delish . I had the fish tacos. These were no wimpy tacos. A huge hunk of meat filled the center with a creamy sauce drizzled throughout and a slaw in the bottom. We both chose the fries for our side over the chip or fruit options. You can not go wrong with these hot, seasoned, and crispy outside fries. I had the frozen pina colada that was amazing. I could have had one after another but keep in mind they are $12 a pop. Oh and don't try eating the pineapple garnish. It isn't ripe. A very pleasant experience. Glad we chose to be lazy. read more

Hive Dive is my go-to spot when I'm at the Marriot Marquis. They have the best staff hands down. From Shirley the manager to Thomas and Charlee behind the bar. I look forward to seeing them on my weekend staycations. They take good care of guests and regulars alike. The bar has great drinks (esp the paloma), but the food is equally as delicious. During the winter months, Hive Dive is open to the public Mon-Thur 12pm-8pm; however, pool access is not permitted to non-guests. The view alone is worth the visit, you definitely want to add this patio to your list. read more

I've wanted to come to the Texas shaped pool since they opened and finally got a chance. Honestly the day was made by the exceptional service we got. Keii was our main server for our cabana, and she was so nice, helpful, and there whenever we needed anything. I also happened to drop by the bar directly on my way back from the bathroom (cleanest pool bathrooms I've ever been in, by the way) and had Mike as a bartender. The lazy river is really cool - literally (which was GREAT for the last weekend in August) and figuratively- but the service here? Not so much.. I waited close to 40 minutes for a virgin piña colada for my kid. On a Monday morning. When it was NOT very crowded. The drinks are overpriced and not necessarily great. They don't even stock everything necessary to make a rum punch. A freaking RUM PUNCH. The waiter who told me this couldn't even remember the whichever ingredient they would be missing, either. That being said, the chicken sandwich is one of the best I've ever had, but order it at least 30-45 minutes before you think you'll be hungry, otherwise you're SOL. Don't get me started on the pre-authorizations that will be put on your credit card. The information about this restaurant is confusing. I read in this site the restaurant is open to the public (in one of the answers) however we went there for a date night and were not allowed to enter because we were not registered guests at the hotel. In the webpage of the marriot hotel they describe the restaurant and hours of operation but do not point out that is EXCLUSIVE for guests of the hotel. My review is not about the quality of the food nor the ambience of the restaurant, but about the lack of information provided on the website. read more

Waiters and bartenders are too busy having personal conversations. Waiter left us a menu then didn't come back for 30 minutes and was surprised when we already had food and drinks -- I made two trips to the bar and back myself. Pina colada was good. Everything is overpriced though. Bartender wasn't paying attention and made a drink I didn't order. Bartender couldn't be bothered to bring our food to other side of the pool so I made two trips to carry everything. Menu said guacamole was served with warm chips; that's false, they're served cold.
