I had the hungarian mushroom soup which was great. Hubby had some kind of meat sub and was happy. Place is cute - coffee shop like with a ski town vibe. One of the guys behind the counter asked how my soup was and when I said yummy but not quite as hot as I like it, he apologized for it cooling down quickly because it was ladled into a cold bowl. We ate breakfast at this centrally located, very busy cafe twice. The cafe is attached to a small strip mall area that, in summer, opens onto the skateboard park. It's a busy, hectic little place. Inside, there is an ice cream area then you line up to place your order at the counter. There is some seating inside including comfortable couchlike areas and then a deck with seating and more seating at street level. The line moves quickly, but they are cooking each order as they are ordered so the food is not fast food. The menu includes smoothies, an array of deli meat sandwiches, bagels, eggs and waffles and coffee, beer and wine. You can order anything at any time (I think--we didn't try to order breakfast late in the day but we did order lunch items and ice cream for breakfast without a problem). The service is brisk but friendly and accomodating. In fact, the coffee maker re-made our latte three times because each time she didn't feel she'd gotten it quite right (we didn't complain; she made that decisions on her own). We tried an array of items. The coffee got a big hands up (our group liked it better than stumptown--it was smoother). Waffles were a mixed bag--overall we ordered four. they are belgian waffles and sometimes they were undercooked and a bit goopy and thick. other times they were crispy. they serve them with a big swipe of butter (they said it was butter but it didn't taste like butter to me). When I requested no butter they said okay but I still got butter. They can come with ice cream or fruit or whipped cream or just plain. We tried all of them and they were all fine. They call you when the food is done so you get served immediately which means the waffles were always hot even if they were soggy. If you want a sandwich, you pick up a sandwich order form at the beginning of the line and pick meat, veggies, cheese, etc. They are mostly served on bagels, bu tthey also offer some specialty sandwiches like a goat cheese with pesto and the special of the day was a turkey with rye and thousand island and pickles (best thing we had there). Bagles were fresh and tasty, as were the veggies on top. Ice cream is dreyers. Biscuits and gravy were tasty with pepper and salt in a white gravy. We liked the place and despite how busy they were, we never had problems getting a table. read more

We came down from Timberline Lodge last week to have breakfast here, and it was a wonderful surprise. I agree that the service might not have been speedy, but it isn't McDonald's, and thank goodness for that. The food was freshly prepared and delicious, and a great value. There were quite a few good beverage selections, too, like locally brewed beers and even a couple varieties of kombucha (an addiction of mine). I also like the ambiance of the place; though we came toward the end of summer, and there wasn't much of the usual skiing crowd, the laid-back friendliness of the operators was welcoming. Also, I like the layout and the decor. My wife and I plan to return to the area, and perhaps stay in Government Camp. We'll probably be eating here a few times; heck, we brought back a couple of friends for lunch the same day. read more

This place has terrible hours. If you wanted a sandwich after the slopes, then head to subway because this place is closed by 3. You'll probably save money and actually get the sub you wanted. Came in a little before noon to grab a sandwich to go to eat at trillium with my family. I've been stopping in there periodically since I was a kid- love their breakfast sandwiches so I figured it was best to support them on my way up the mtn. There were 2 cooks and 2 girls at the register. We ordered a cold sandwich to go which took over 40 minutes to make and it looked like a blind person wrapped it. Sad. High Mountain Cafe only exists because there's no competition. The service is extremely slow. The cold brew is usually watered down to the point that it looks clear. The breakfast sandwiches are really good, but i always experience things like they put avocado slices on it that were nowhere even close to ripe. Using rock hard avocados that should not be eaten yet while they upcharge you for them when they really should say there's none available. I go here a lot because it's still one of the only places around to get a breakfast sandwich, but i'd say i'm happy about 1 out of 4 times. You're in Govy. It is what it is. read more

It had been years since I popped in here, since my last breakfast sandwich had me convinced peanut butter on bread was a better way to start my day. We tried again last weekend. Soggy bagel, after waiting a long time (I assume b/c it was ready and steaming itself in the foil). I ordered a cold brew, which was so weak I could only taste water. I asked for more coffee and the woman (manager) proceeded to tell me that was how it was supposed to be. Not only was that condescending, but the ratio of coffee to water was obviously also incorrect (I watched her pour 1/4 glass of coffee into an ice filled cup and fill the rest with water). She turned from me to tell the other employees how she "educated her (me), and how she (I) needed to be educated." WTF? Unless you're literally starving, keep going. read more

Really good and simple food. Home made pastries and croissants were killer. Bagel sandwiches were the hilights of breakfast.

I wandered in here with my family to escape a downpour. I thought the subs and sandwiches were really terrific and very well priced. The only thing that keeps them from a fourth star is the service. Went here for coffee because it was close to where we were staying. I ordered a triple shot 16oz vanilla latte, and took a drink after walking out the door. Tasted like watery milk. I normally wouldn't go back, but it was so bad. I got a triple because I wanted extra coffee, and I couldn't taste coffee at all. Went back in and asked for either an extra shot or something else. A different girl recommended their "shot in the dark" drink as it's their strongest, and she would add cream/vanilla. I agreed to get that, and almost had to pay for the second coffee, but I said I didn't want the first one at all and she let me get it for no charge. She was nice to my face, at least. Their strongest drink was just as watery as the first one I ordered. Would not recommend if you like coffee. Like someone else said, Folgers would have been better. read more

The food is good here, but sometimes the wait can be murderous! If there is a line go somewhere else like the taco shop, but come back the next day a little earlier so you can enjoy there sandwiches or bowls. Worst customer service ever! If there were 0 stars, this place would earn it. I waited in line for 10 minutes while the worker was chatting it up with someone who just ordered a coffee. I wasn't even acknowledged while waiting in line and none if the other 2 workers even made any eye contact. As I grew impatient with the lack of service i had my bf take over so I could go to the restroom. Finished my business and he was STILL waiting... Worker was still chatting like we didn't even exist... Never ONCE made eye contact with either of us, let alone give us a "I'll be right with you." Horrible service. Terribly slow service and easily the worst latte I've ever had. After waiting about ten minutes when there was only one customer in front of us we finally got our lattes. They were the wrong size and even worse just tasted like steamed milk. Couldn't taste coffee at all. We complained and asked for a refund. Walking out the door the lady snarkly says never had anyone complain about our espresso. Quite professional eh? No right to act that way when your coffee tastes like piss. The Food and the coffee drinks are good and fairly consistent. The service could be better, we never really feel welcome there. We are always polite and courteous but sense the staff would rather not be there. We would go more often if the environment was more warm and welcoming. Everyone loved their breakfast, food was much better than you'd expect and probably best breakfast on the mountain.
