Great location good food. I added a picture of their kids menu. Limited seating. I would recommend removing the couches and adding about 4 more tables. People can sit and talk at a table but it's hard for a family with kids to eat at a couch. We were able to get a table but there were others waiting for a table while the coach was unused. We looked at the menus in a couple of places trying to find a place for lunch. Most seemed to be greasy spoon diners but this one was much more appealing. We were very happy with our choice! My husband says the Godo grilled sandwich was one of the best sandwiches he's ever had! My sister and I shared a sandwich (I think it was called an Avalanche) and it was plenty for us - the sandwiches are huge! Friendly people and clean restroom. Nice little arcade as well! They serve the best breakfast in town! Lunch too. The mother/son team put their hearts into the wonderful meals they prepare. The eggs are prefect and so is the bacon, crispy all the way through. All the ingredients are fresh and delicious. They have a great selection of beverages, breakfast items and sandwiches to satisfy every customer. The atmosphere is happy and friendly. I loved the two mornings I spent at High Mountain Cafe, one of the highlights of my trip to Government Camp. I'll be back! read more

Ok so first off all we had a 45 minute wait to get our food. They had a problem with the POS system so we waited patiently. After people who came in after us got their food, we checked in. They said that they had our order, but the guy obviously was not listening and brushed us off. Then 10 minutes later after more people who came in after us got their food my mom went up to the counter and they said they DIDNT have our order. Then my dads coffee had the ice melted in it and then the person at the counter made a big deal when we asked for a new one. This seemed very cheap of them. Then when we got our food all of it was greasy my apple sauce was covered in french toast grease. but the food is very good but the kids french toast is bland (Edits done by my mom) read more

These sandwiches look like huge concrete pavers that were wrapped in foil, they feel the same weight, too! They do NOT mess around here, they load em up and make them with care. We had a little wait, since we order about 7, however I really appreciated that they took their time with each one and didn't just *wham bam thank you ma'am* them. Everyone loved them, the bread is also really good. I got the Avalanche (turkey, avo, I added bacon, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce and a special spread) and I loved it, enjoyed the ratio of veggies to meats. They had this veggie croissant deal that was AMAZING. A buttery croissant topped with spinach, tomatoes and cheese. It was actually my favorite thing I ate there. Their blueberry Danishes were good, too. All in all, a really great place to grab some much needed food after hiking around the mountain all day. Friendly service and legit grub. The subs are huge (two meals) and the meat and cheese they use are tasty. I'm glad they serve Mt. Hood Roasters coffee and they actually know how to make a mocha without it tasting "chalky" or too sweet. If you can get their fresh pastries, go for it, just make sure they reheat them in the real oven cause mine got microwaved and I sent it back due to it being ruined, but they did it right after that. The staff seems to be overworked and the management that comes through to check on the staff seems a little rude in front of the customers. Do we as customers really need to hear what kind of behind the scenes problems are with not only this café, but the other properties they take care of? I think not. read more

The worst customer service experience my partner and I have ever had in our life. The woman at the counter was rude and offensive...I believe racism may have also played a part. She yelled at him in front of customers, over simple confusion about getting a half sandwich. This place has a lot of potential. We stopped by for breakfast based off their advertising outside and the fact that it just looked like a good spot. The inside is cute and cozy, but it was incredibly cold - literally. You'd think for a mountain restaurant they would keep it toasty, but I guess not. We ordered up - biscuits and gravy and a burrito for myself. We liked my hubby's biscuits and gravy and his over-medium eggs were perfect which says a lot. Finding over medium eggs done well is like finding a needle in a haystack. My burrito was flavorful and HUGE for $7.95, but the potatoes were large chunks and fairly undercooked - no big deal though. The flavor more than made up for it. Food took a while but I'm sure it's cause they had one guy cooking and the gal up at the register and helping when she could. Despite being really busy, she made probably one of the best mochas I've had in a while. I'd go back...maybe for lunch but definitely coffee drinks. read more

I always get the "Fall Line" which is: Ham, Salami, Provolone Cheese, Pepperoncinis, Red Onions, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Mayo & Italian Dressing on a Toasted Sub Roll. (I also Add Capicollo to mine.) This little café is located along the main strip in Government Camp next to the Ratskeller restaurant. The rustic charm is similar to most places in this area. I've only been here for lunch, but the food is surprisingly good. Sandwiches are big and hearty; more meat than most sandwich places put in their food, and piled high with fresh ingredients. There's a good selection of other food as well. They also have a decent selection of beers to choose from. Service is casual, where you order at the counter, and the kitchen will call out your name when the food is ready. Don't expect a maître-de in this town; they cater to the ski, snow, and adventure crowd; which is fine with me. Some outdoor seating is available, which is awesome in the summer, because it is so beautiful up here on the mountain. Government Camp has come a long way in the last decade. Driving up highway 26, pull off and enjoy this rustic little town; and a big sandwich. read more

We were taking "the loop" from Hood River to Portland and stumbled upon the bizarrely named town of Government Camp. Since it was breakfast time, we used YELP to search for a yummy place and found High Mountain Cafe' Driving through the sparse town confirmed that it was a good choice. High Mountain Cafe is a rather eclectic dining spot with a multitude of food offerings, whether breakfast or lunch. I loved the breakfast burrito although it really was enough food to split or for 2-days. We also got the sausage and gravy and biscuits with two eggs which was particularly tasty, especially since we're from the South (Kentucky). A friend of mine and I had gone camping around this area of Mt. Hood and found our way to this place for breakfast. They have a few items listed on chalk boards behind the counter but also offer custom omelets, bagels and sandwiches. I decided to try one of the omelets. Our food was made to order and decently quickly. My friend wanted coffee and had to go to a separate counter to place that order. The food was decent, but nothing exceptional. The service was friendly and pretty fast. The place was very comfortable and cozy. After we had gotten our food, the restaurant started to fill up. As we finished up, we noticed that some of the late comers were having to wait quite a long time for food. This place was pretty good and what we were craving at the time, but if there are many people in the place, I don't know if I would consider it worth a very long wait. read more

The food is decent but the service is insulting. I came in after dropping son off at his weekly ski race practice to get a breakfast sandwich and a refill on my coffee from our long drive up the mountain. I had a yogurt for my daughter's lunch that we were carrying with us as well so we didn't have to trek back to the car for it. I was told immediately upon getting y seven year old daughter and I situated, that we could not bring outside food into the restaurant. I explained to her that we were ordering breakfast and needed a coffee refill but were told I could order but would have to eat it outside the cafe in the brown bag area. I have to say that her immediate assertion (especially the way she projected it) that I just came in to occupy a seat with my own lunch was pretty insulting. This is the mountain. People carry food or snacks with them occasionally to prevent having to trek back to the car. That's just the way it is. My end conclusion here is that their customer service is missing the essential people skills it takes to read a customer's situation and therefore aren't in touch with their customers situation. So my daughter ate her lunch for breakfast and were allowed back in to order breakfast and a coffee refill. Sue me for smuggling in yogurt... even though not for consumption. Lighten up. read more

In short, Delicious and fresh food and everyone was so nice and accommodating; they even cooked breakfast for our group even though we had just missed the mark. Went in for a few sandwiches around 2 pm . They weren't busy at all no one was in there. However it took them ( 3 people working ) 35 minutes to make it. I asked for a modified sandwich on one, they didn't put my add ons on but charged me ..... of course I didn't check because it's take out only and trusted they would have done my made to order Sami correctly. So I was already extremely discouraged about the lengthy wait when it was clear they were extremely slow. The sandwich itself was mediocre. Customer service terrible !!! read more
