I've been here twice now and I am always blown away by the quality of food. This is a small restaurant and bait shop on the side of the road in Western NC. If you blink, you might miss it. What they lack in size they make up for in the delicious BBQ they put out. This time around, I got their brisket sandwich with side of french fries and coleslaw. My partner got a BBQ sandwich with corn pudding and mac and cheese. Then they have a variety of sauces to choose from. The brisket sandwich is HUGE. I couldn't finish all of it. It was delicious and so were the fries. The coleslaw was a little sweeter than I like mine but still very fresh. My partner enjoyed his bbq sandwich, corn pudding, and mac and cheese. I thought the mac & cheese was very good as well! We topped it all off with their sweet tea - perfectly made to delight the Southerners among us. Absolutely blown away by this restaurant. It doesn't look like much when you walk in. Typical counter service joint and in a hunting shop. The kids menu was perfect and sides are the same as the adults so my kids were able to share. The home made BBQ sauces were delicious and the sweet corn bread pudding was perfect. Honestly all the food was absolutely delicious. Seating area was clean and staff was friendly. Sticky BBQ bottles made it feel authentic. Haha. We had such an incredible experience here! This is true, authentic BBQ done right!!! The meat was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor, and the sides were just as delicious. You can tell everything is made with care and pride. What truly made the night unforgettable was the hospitality. We came in on New Year's Eve with a party of 9, and the staff graciously stayed open late for us, welcoming us with kindness and warmth instead of rushing us out. That level of service is rare and meant so much to our group. Amazing food, generous portions, and even better people. We had a wonderful time and will absolutely be back. The bend in the road comes up quickly and you can easily miss the sign, so leave the windows open to smell the Q! Fantastic BBQ in a real guns/ammo/sporting goods shop. I went with country ribs which, to me, are a synonym for St. Louis-style cut. The were meaty, al-dente pull, and succulently smokey....stripe them with a line of the Hellacious Hot and Original sauces and break the bit off! Let's not forget the sides as they are the sensational supporting effort...if you understand the magic and culinary craft required to achieve collards and black eyed peas that elevate into pork and beef partners of perfection! We stopped here on the way out of town, mostly because I wanted to look through the outfitters side of the business. Parking is in a rocked lot with no real marked spaces. No handicapped spots as far as I could tell. We just ordered a small plate for a snack as we weren't that hungry. The pork was a bit dry but flavorful. The macaroni came from a box and was not great. The bbq beans were good and the potato salad fine but nothing special. A word of caution, the Hellacious Hot sauce is indeed hot. It had good flavor but it was too hot for my liking. I mixed it with the mild which turned out very good. It's an interesting place to visit and with the restaurant you can grab a snack as you peruse the outdoor gear. read more

There is even a small outdoor shop inside that includes hunting and fishing gear, firearms, ammo, bows and archery supplys, plus they do hunting & fishing licenses, boat registrations and hunting and fishing excursions too!!! I personally believe the chopped pork on Texas toast with those delicious little sweet bbq-y beans and creamy coleslaw on the side is the best pork sandwich plate I've ever had in my life and I've tried alot of award winning barbecue all over the country. I was so excited to try them when I walked in the door, as I LOVE good BBQ and this place had a couple good reviews. Unfortunately, outside of a friendly order taker, I have nothing good to say about them. I ordered a 1/2 rack of Country Ribs and my daughters split a Country Ribs plate and had sides of Mac N Cheese. All should be staples of good BBQ places and always should be great. Well, my 1/2 rack could have been used to repair shoes. EVERY single piece was burnt to the bone and dried out. I have truly never had ribs that were that bad. It was almost like they had to work to make them that awful. My kids ribs were very slightly better, but still very dry/burnt. They enjoyed the Mac and Cheese, but it was provided in a container about the size of a shot glass, so two spoons and it was gone. I will never return here again and highly recommend you find better food ANYWHERE else. . . even a convenience store is a step up. read more

You would never know by driving by that the best bbq is inside. The smokers are always going and the smell will make your mouth water. Not only is the bbq good, there are tons of delicious sides to choose from. The baked beans, corn pudding and fried okra are a few of my favorites. Against the advice of others in our area, my wife and myself went to High Ridge Adventures and B.B.Q. THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE. First the sides. Her french fries while done on the outside were raw and partly frozen on the inside and her macaroni was overcooked to the point of embarrassment. My sides were overcooked baked beans held at too low of a temp to be safe and had pork in them. My potato salad was held too warm. The alleged barbecue was cooked by someone who has absolutely no clue how to manage a smoker. It was bitter and acrid, and had been held over for at least a day or more. The sorry sides were maybe a pathetic 1/4 cup or under. We could not eat half of either plate it was so horrible. I got food sickness from it and so did my wife. Thankfully we did not eat even half of it. . . You can tell by the size of the menu and lack of customers the food cannot be made fresh daily. This place is an insult to our barbecue tradition and is not the best anywhere. STAY AWAY!!! The manager or owner of the restaurant part was extremely rude and overbearing to a young female staff member and constantly nit picked and micro managed her every move, when in fact he was in the wrong.. . The atmosphere was soulless. A real barbecue place is about great times and a lot of soul. Unfortunately, this place had none. This review is only for the alleged barbecue that most definitely was not. . . The gentleman that ran the sporting goods counter was very polite to both of us. Both my wife and myself worked at nationally renowned barbecue restaurants as teenagers. Trust me when I say You do not want to waste your time or money. . . You should never have to put a rib style sauce on barbecue pork to make it seem edible... Only send someone you hate like your worst enemy here. This place was an adventure in sorry a$$$ food that does not deserve to be called food much less barbecue. The person that runs the barbecue part of the business claims to have restaurant experience. While I seriously doubt that, I know they have zero barbecue experience and it shows.
