He had great conversation with us as well as with other customers, many of which were clearly regular locals. But we were welcomed with open arms and fed to hearts content! They have daily rotating sides and specials so always something new. I only regret not living here to be able to try them daily lol. Ambiance is exactly what you'd expect from a lowkey BBQ spot. Fast service, lots of seating and good service. Loved the pulled pork platter. Juicy and flavorful. The collards are amazing. The banana pudding was more of a pudding without bananas, and perhaps one wafer. Also wasn't a fan of what they call a chocolate "pie" that is mousse in a cup. Affordable, tasty,, convenient, and consistent. This place has never let me down. We've been coming up to Asheville every year since 2017 and Moes has never let us down. Beautiful Smokey flavors and amazing sauces. We always get the smoke wings and ribs platter. That Alabama white sauce on the wings is a match made in heaven! Ribs are soft and juicy. And always look out for their specials. I've tried the hush puppies and fried chicken during their daily socials and both have been amazing. Now the sides may be their weakest link. Mac and cheese is a bit dry and the cheese has no emulsion. The slaw is basically salt pepper and vinegar. Different from what I'm used to but not too bad. Other than that the bake beans were good and the corn bread were probably the best I have ever had. Nice, soft, airy corn bread with great flavors. Smoked wings are delicious! The sides are always so flavorful and different. The restaurant is casual and there was plenty of seeing on a weekday afternoon. Took my Dad for an early dinner - he had a pulled pork plate with Mack & cheese with sweet potato casserole. He loved it as the Mack & cheese was old school like grandma used to make & the sweet potato casserole was sweet & like you'd get at a family reunion. I had a smoked chicken plate - 1/2 a smoked chicken that was perfect & very well flavored, tender & good! With collards & black eyed peas. Both were excellent! Each came with sweet cornbread that also was very good! Did I say collards?!?! I mean if you're southern & you're serving BBQ, you better have collard greens! We saw this little gem on side of road with a packed parking lot so it was an automatic stop!! The line was long but they were quick to take your order and served to you in about 5 mins. Today a friend of mine and I went to Moe's for lunch before a shopping trip to A Thyme in the Garden. We hadn't planned for our meal to be the highlight of our afternoon but our meal was great. My friend ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a side of potato salad. She could only eat half of the sandwich, it was that stuffed with meat. She is a potato salad connoisseur and praised the Moe's version to be very tasty. I ordered the smoked chicken wings- they were excellent! I forgot to count the number of wings but I had enough to bring three home. I got two sides, both were the collard greens. They were excellent and I brought one serving home. Some celery sticks, a nice dip, and a piece of sweet cornbread were included. I will definitely be back for takeout to share with my husband. The restaurant itself is rustic and roomy. Typical BBQ joint. That's okay, it's all about the food. I'm not sure why but every person in the place (except us) were guys! They looked like hard working men, in for lunch. Very nice and polite. Very good They didn't have a 'sample platter' (mix of meats), so I went with the pulled pork and my wife went with the smoked Turkey and we both had a bit of each. This review is for the Moe's located on Merrimon Ave near Woodfin. Have ordered their BBQ sandwiches and platters many times--usually to go but have dined inside as well. Their side dishes are very tasty as well. Nothing fancy but I think their BBQ is better than some of the other well known BBQ restaurants in the area. Moe's Original Bar B Que is serving up Alabama-style BBQ in Woodfin. Boyfriend and I split the Combo 2 Meats Platter and the Three Sides Platter. Combo 2 Meats: pulled pork, smoked turkey, mac 'n cheese, baked beans, cornbread and a soda (the platters are served with cornbread, 2 sides and a soda). Three Sides: Applesauce, collards and sweet potato casserole (this is served with cornbread and a soda). I have never had Alabama-style BBQ before but it started to grow on me after I took a few bites of everything. The turkey was definitely my favorite with the pulled pork being a close runner-up. Unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of the side items. The applesauce contained cinnamon which I did not enjoy, the mac 'n cheese was not as cheesy as I like and the baked beans were just okay. Out of all of the side items the sweet potato casserole was definitely the best. I really enjoyed the crunch served on top. Just a note, they do have a bar area if you are looking to grab a few drinks and food. Yes this was a great BBQ meal. Sitting outside in the back, we arrived hungry from a day of travel to wait on our order and smell an amazing smell of BBQ being prepared. This made us even more ready to eat. And then came the pork ribs, corn bread, slaw, beans spiced with jalapeños, Mac and cheese and potato salad and perfect sweet tea. Any barbecue place is expensive. They do have deals for larger parties such as the double wide or triple wide. I'm n out crazy about their sides. Instead of plain bbq baked beans with they are full of onions and tomato pieces which children would not like and there are other sides that are like this. Too jazzed up for my family's liking. I liked their corn bread with the jalapeño pieces but I know that is too much spice for some. Just so many places in this menu where they've tried to go over the top and greatly missed. Not a very family friendly atmosphere which is why my family most always takes it to go otherwise it's like sitting at a bar.
