Incredible experience at Home Town BBQ! I was excited to…read moretry a new BBQ spot with my fiance while visiting. We were greeted by the smell of smoked meat, which was incredible. We were seated on their covered patio, which had fans and was comfortable on a hot evening. Our server greeted us right away and gave us the run down of the menu and took our drink order. They had a lot of local beer offerings, which was awesome. We both tried local beers and started with the smoked wing appetizer with the dry rub. They were so tasty and the rub had the perfect mix of sweet and spice. Chef's kiss! For our entree, we split a two meat platter, which came with two sides. We got the smoked turkey, pulled pork, Mac and cheese and their hash and rice, a thick meat stew made from pork. Everything was incredible! We also loved trying the different sauces on the table. We ended the meal with their banana pudding, which was divine. Couldn't recommend Home Team BBQ more!

Greens were fresh, nice mix of toppings like corn and tomatoes, and the pork was smoky without being too heavy. The toast underneath soaked up some of the juices which worked really well. Also grabbed a cup of their Brunswick stew which was super comforting, thick, and packed with flavor. Washed it down with a beer and everything came out fast. Not trying to be anything fancy, just really good BBQ and sides done right. Would definitely come back, especially for an easy outdoor lunch.

I have been to both the West Ashley and Downtown locations multiple times and have yet to be let down by the service. I often arrive with a group of about five to eight people well before a game starts and have never had an issue. If you are coming for a game, I recommend getting there early so you do not have to stand around and wait for a table. Now for the food... it is so good! I am someone who loves sauces and condiments, so I absolutely love how each table has a variety of options you can mix and match instead of having to ask a server. I personally always get a meat platter with a side of coleslaw and mac and cheese or a pulled pork sandwich. You truly cannot go wrong here. Some of my friends rave about the tacos, while others are obsessed with their iconic wings. Don't miss out on their incredible tots or brisket nachos. They have several great appetizers that are perfect to share with the table!

JUST AVERAGE..nothing to write home about…read more the BBQ ribs were tender and good The Brisket was dry and hard. ..like they cooked the flat and not the point.. i love brisket and would never order this from here again. baked beans were pasty with some kind of meat... I didn't mind paying $22.75 for the ribs or even $20.95 for the brisket...what burned my ass is getting nailed for $4.25 for just a coke. We drove 20 miles just to try this place..which i would not do again

It was pleasantly quiet when we arrived, but it filled up quickly as the evening went on -- a good sign. The food here is genuinely delicious and, best of all, reasonably priced for downtown Charleston. We shared a plate that came with pulled pork and smoked chicken wings, along with coleslaw and sweet potato fries. We also started with the smoked rib and charred corn empanadas as an appetizer. Everything was outstanding -- the meats were tender, smoky, and well-seasoned without being overdone. Their coleslaw is my favorite among the options; it's creamy with just a hint of heat that keeps it interesting. The sweet potato fries were a nice touch too. We had our eye on the pork belly burnt ends, but they were sold out that night -- understandable for a popular item. My only real nitpick is that they don't offer brisket, but with everything else tasting so good, it's hard to complain much. Our waitress, Brady, was fantastic -- friendly, attentive, and really helpful with recommendations. Service like that makes a big difference. If you're in the mood for quality smoked BBQ without the tourist-trap markup, Poogan's Smokehouse is a great choice. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town. Highly recommended!

Sausage is ok, and likes the chicken when he is in the mood for it. He hasnt had anything there that he doesnt like. I loved the turkey, baked beans and Mac n cheese. Our Hurricane drink was pretty delicious( with part of the proceeds goes to a charity for that one particular drink). The server was polite and friendly. They smoke and bbq all the meats right out back of the restaurant so the food came out quick, fresh and amazing! I personally loved the Mustard and Sweet Red sauces while my husband prefers the slight heat of the Jalapeño sauce . The recipes for the sauces are hanging up on the walls as part of the decor. The only thing i could knock them for is the bathroms were a little dingy. Not really super dirty, just needs some updating with new tiles and paint. Overall great place and we will definitely will be returning!

However, I feel like we've had better barbecue up north than we did here... We ordered a brisket plate + a pork belly plate to share with mac & cheese, grits and corn pudding. The brisket was dry and flavorless. The pork belly was more fat than meat. Thank goodness for the variety of delicious sauces they provided with our meals! I'm giving two stars for the sides & sauces being pretty good but that's about it. I don't know the area but I'm sure you can find better meats elsewhere :(
