Highland auto is the very best, most reliable garage I have ever used in many years in the valley, this includes dealership auto repairs. I have been having my cars serviced there for a number of years. I had my car towed to the garage on Tuesday and today was able to pick it up and it is in great working condition today as promised. I had the garage look over the car to see if I should complete any additional repairs and as usual they provided a complete report which will make it possible for me to determine if I should be in the market for a new car. I actually picked up one car today and dropped off my second vehicle for routine maintenance. We've taken both of our cars here for service. One they did a diagnostic and found it needed to go somewhere for the transmission. They didn't charge us and referred us to a place in Phoenix that did a good job and was very affordable. Our other car they did an extensive diagnostic on and gave it a tune up and some other things. The car had been out of commission for two years and they got it working really well and for a reasonable price. We'll definitely be going to them in the future. I have been to this place about 4 times and they identified the problem and fixed it. The cost was affordable compared to other establishments. They take no appointments. You must continue to ask them the status of your vehicle to help them stay on top of the high # of cars that are being dropped off to be fixed by folks. This person is dishonest and bad people, after fixing one problem my car started another. His mechanics created the problem by unplugging the sensor(s), but leaving it on enough for codes to appear. Until I took my car to the dealership who showed me that someone deliberately sabotaged my car under the hood. I had not taken my car to anyone except Highland Auto repair. The mechanic and the owner are partners. These guys are crooks. I lost more than a thousand dollars in mechanic created problems. read more

Highland Auto is the BEST shop I've ever been to in Arizona. Virgil is always fair and very helpful. The work is done RIGHT the first time and they don't try to sell services you don't need. I wish other mechanics were honest like Virgil is. I have sen relatives to him that were given long lists of stuff supposedly needed for their car. I've always rooted for local businesses. I just won't come back to this one. I've been here for service at least 4 other times and had a reasonable experience. Nothing bad to say. Today is different. I'm not going to go into detail about the countless times I tried calling with no answer. I'll just say I had to go back to get the diagnosis 4 hours after dropping off my car only to find my car not on the property. No big deal, probably out test driving it, right? Well, no one knew where it went and couldn't find my paperwork. 20 minutes go by and finally someone brings it back and walks off. Never comes over to address me, nothing. Another 10 minutes go by, he finally comes back after being hunted down by another mechanic...tells me he doesn't know but he'll test drive it to pressurize it and check. Uhhhh, what were you doing driving it then?!! So, I leave it...another 3 hours go by...he calls back to tell me that the job is too extensive, I need a new radiator and he has too many cars and won't be open again till next Tuesday (today is Wednesday). So, these guys wasted an ENTIRE day of going on joy rides instead of being upfront 8 hours ago. Now, I'm in a time crunch going into Christmas weekend with NO CAR!!! Never again!!! read more

Only talked to the mechanic and the guy at the front desk, the mechanic was VERY rude and the front desk took about a minute just to acknowledge my presence. I asked if they had time to look at my car, he just said no. He didn't even offer another time for me to come in. Prices may be cheap but I didn't even get a chance to see what they were cause the service was so horrible. read more

I would not let this guy work on a peddle car, much less an actual motor vehicle. Took my sons Infinity in for a steering problem. Not once but three times. Every time it was something else causing the problem. First it was the belts - replaced them. Second it was the steering rack because there was metal shavings in the fluid tank.- replaced power steering rack. Third time he replaced the power steering pump (actual cause) He may pull the wool on others, but I can tell you this guy could not diagnose a flat tire. read more

We have been going to HA for 10 years. Small issues here and there, over looked, then we took my sons 2014 Jetta to have oil changed and a once over since we just bought it. They kept overnight and left windows open and the car looked like a HAAABOOB hit it inside. Dust, leaves, more dust! My son is very particular about his car, and was very upset that they left windows open all night, and didn't clean it up before we picked it up. Be careful when dealing with them. I called 4 days ahead of time and explained the scope of work very carefully to each person I spoke with and also the time it would need to fix my differential. I spoke to 4 different people who all committed that they could have it completed in 1 day because the total labor time was about 4 hours. I waited 4 days because there were so many 5 star reviews and when I arrived they told me that they couldn't do it and played dumb as far as ever speaking to me. Typical bait and switch operation that says they can do anything just to get you down there and then does not deliver on it. They get one star because at least they got the diagnosis right. I left my truck with them for a diagnostic to figure out if I had a vacuum leak, or if my fuel pump was going out. I had already done some shade tree mechanic diagnostics but needed to know for sure. I left it with them on Thursday afternoon and was told it would be looked at on Friday. I expected that so no problems yet. Friday evening at 5:30 they called and I spoke with the mechanic who stated that it was the fuel pump. No mention of diagnostics, vacuum test, proof, etc. He quoted me $700 for the fuel pump replacement, and another $170 for replacing the battery cables which are corroded. ( I had just cleaned the cables the day before and knew they had some corrosion, but not enough to justify $170). I told him I would think about it overnight and let them know in the morning. I already knew that dealer cost was $550 for the pump, and knew that I could get one online next day air for $250 and have it Monday if needed. I have replaced in tank fuel pumps in the past, but I just didn't have that much time to deal with it, and also the fact that I no longer had all the tools needed. After reading all the good reviews I decided to let them do it since I had been without a vehicle for 3 days, and desperately needed it drivable again by Monday. I spoke with the owner Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. and asked for a parts/labor breakdown. He confirmed that the pump was $580 and they were charging $120 for labor. I thought that was reasonable considering it was the weekend and there wasn't much else I could do about it, so I told him to go ahead with the fuel pump replacement, but not the battery cables. I asked if he would have it done today (Saturday). He assured me that it would be done, and said that he would have his guy get started on it right away. I asked if he would call me when it was done, which he also said he would do. None of those things happened. After waiting all day Saturday without any word from them and knowing that they closed at 4:00, I called to see if the truck was done. After being on hold for several minutes while the guy went to "check on it", he stated "It looks like the part we needed ended up not being in stock in Phoenix. We'll have to get one in on Monday, there should be one in Dallas". Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure Dallas is in Texas, so I'm not exactly sure how they planned on getting a pump from Texas and installing it on the same day. I told him "That's not going to work for me, I guess I'll just have to come down and pick it up" His exact response was a very sarcastic "Come get it!". When I got there, the truck was in the shop with the hood up and someone was "working" on it. What he was doing I have no idea since the fuel pump is in the tank. It seemed like it was all for show. I told the guy at the desk that I was here to pick up that Chevy since it hadn't been worked on. He said, "He's almost done getting it ready - then he'll back it out for you". The mechanic immediately shut the hood and backed out the truck. I looked at the desk guy and he said "You're all set", That's it. No phone call to inform me of anything, no explanation, no apology, no offer of possible solutions, no concern, no mention of charges for the diagnostic work (which I expected to pay for), no customer service skills of any kind. He didn't even try to find my work order, or verify who I was. I never even gave him my name. I simply asked for that truck, and it was valeted for me! I had never even seen this person before! If I was of a criminal mindset, I guess I could just go down there every day and pick up a new vehicle at random! I was stunned. Anyway, I digress. So I got in the truck and limped it home. Remember - the pump was going out, so the engine would die at random as you're driving. I was fortunate enough to get it home without incident since I only had about two miles to go. It was very obvious that they just didn't care. I have been in customer service for over 20 years, with 15 years of auto repair business management, so I can honestly say that this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had, or seen - in ANY business. I can't believe that they are able to stay in business when they treat their customers with complete indifference. I left wondering if they had even done any testing at all and were just playing some bait and switch game. I guess I will never know. Oh, and just a side note, I was able to find an oem pump at Oreilly auto parts yesterday (On a SUNDAY!) for $400, and was lucky enough to have a friend of mine that still has his tools help me install it in two hours - so I guess there goes that "we couldn't find one in town" excuse. read more

There is something about this place that just puts customers at ease, and that is really rare with auto body shops these days. I've had work done twice by Highland and I will continue to use them for all future auto repairs. Never once have I felt like I was being intimidated, pressured, or ripped off. In fact, this place seems to pride itself on listening to what your concerns and needs are and offering you an honest assessment of your vehicle. The employees that work here are down to earth people. They don't try to beat around the bush and sell you anything. The guys I have dealt with there are men of little words, which actually threw me off a bit. I was expecting to hear a sales pitch, but instead I just got the truth. If you go in for brake work, then they look at your brakes. They don't try to sell you anything else.
