We come every time we're in Denver. They have a great beer menu to include Ciders. It's tucked away in an older neighborhood, but it gives it charm. We always start off with the most amazing TOTS EVER.. and my other favorite the best pork rinds EVER.. Then we get the confit chicken wings dry with several different sauces and the Dr. pepper ribs. Lunch at the Highland Tavern today was very delicious. We went there because it was a Triple D featured restaurant and we were not disappointed. We both had the quiche of the day mine the meat and hers the vegetable. Both of them had a little spice but were not overwhelming. They tasted like they were cooked to order which was very nice. We ordered the tots because that's The Highland Tavern claim to fame but they were nothing special, not bad just not special. It was clear that the tots are popular as every table around us ordered them as well. If you are looking for a good spot for an afternoon meal The Highland Tavern is a very safe choice, I would eat there again for sure. read more

What happened to the awesome fries!! The shoestring fires were the perfect companion to the awesome burgers (don't miss the Guapo burger). Those amazing fries have been replaced with some crappy fries you would expect from Red Robin. Bring back the skinny fries!! I saw this on D.D.D. Guy Fierey or what ever. I drove to denver 70 miles from my home. The pastrami sucked!!! Tasted like watered down roast beef from wallmart sorry. the pork rinds were awesome. But not worth the drive. Good service and a nice clean place but Not good food. My friend got the not the philly sandwich and he was also disappointed. If I lived next door I might stop in for a beer but never eat there again. read more

This is a fun bar. From the friendly bartenders and waitresses to the great food, the place had a very laid back, cool vibe with a ping pong table and pool table. Yes, a ping pong table at a bar! I tried the Spaetzle dish and it's one of the best I've ever had. Even the late night menu with handmade tavern tots and the tasty english sammich helped me end the night on a good note. Wow, this food is fantastic! On our first visit we did an "appetizer tasting menu" so we could get a well rounded variety of food. It did not disappoint (well, maybe a little bit). Tater Tots, Dr. Pepper Ribs, Posole soup, Mac & Cheese were all super yummy. Can't miss with these in your face. :-) The only disappointment were the Beef Tips. They were tough and a little bland. Our server was kind and prompt. He even turned the fan off for us 'cause it was breezy and cold at our booth. Once that was done we were very comfortable. They have plenty of TV's if you are into sports. Lots of beer varieties to choose from and that's a good thing. Well done Hi-T. We will return. read more

Family and I visited on a busy Saturday in March 2014. Well worth the 20 minute wait. Starters were the chili-lime pork skins. These babies arrived at the table hot and puffed up like small pillows. Loved them. Could go for a shaker bottle of that chili-lime powder to shake it on them skins. 2nd starter was the tater tots. Oh Man the bomb. Ore-ida would go out of business if these tots spread. Yum! A couple of cold beers on tap. Nice selection of local brews.Noticed the next table had copper mugs. Yes, Highland Tavern makes moscow mules the right way. Our meal was great. Hamburgers with excellent flavor. The beef is obviously hand formed patties with about an 80/20 meat/fat. One of the best tasting burgers around. Son had the philly. Nice portion and full of flavor. Its packed in there but the service never falters. I didnt get the managers name. He works the entire place. Way to go HT. A winner for the price and the food. read more

We had been looking forward to coming here for months since we saw them on DDD. We started with the tavern tots. They were good, but no, not great. The pork rinds were a tasty novelty, but they were just fresh pork rinds. I had the Bombshell, which I devoured enthusiastically. My husband, however, did not enjoy his Not a Philly. Compared to my sandwich, it was flat and boring. His meat was extremely over cooked, and the onions were chopped into non existence. The cheese was not provolone, but American. The sandwich was smashed flat into tightly warped deli paper. He said the slaw was good, but it was to little to late. The waitress was very friendly. She offered to bring him something else, which he declined. The sandwich was not taken off the tab. The milk stout was good. All in all, not worth the drive. We will not be back. read more

You may have seen Highland Tavern highlighted on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for the tater tots. Now, I'm not going to lie, the tater tots are pretty damned tasty. But for my money, you can't go to Highland Tavern without ordering The Stupid Burger. It's a novelty, sure, and it's a huge, greasy, intimidating burger. But it's also disarmingly delicious. One of the best burgers you can eat in Denver, bar none. Aside from that, the staff has always been very friendly and helpful, and it's got a pretty great atmosphere. Local artists hang their work on the walls, there's a ping pong table to play while you wait for your food. If you haven't been, you're missing out. read more

Excellent burger. DH had some green chili, red pickled onion burger & loved it. I went for the mushroom, brie & truffle oil burger & was very pleased. Of course we tried the tater-tots & they were different... Seems like nothing more than breaded & deep fried mashed potatoes. Worth getting instead of the regular fries. Yesterday we had a late lunch/early dinner at The Highland Tavern at 34th and Navajo in Denver, after seeing it featured Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives -- aka "Triple D" in our house. It really was Guy's description of their Tot's that got our attention. He didn't think they were the best he'd had, but he liked them. We also went there for what Guy said was one of the best deli sandwiches he had ever had -- the Bombshell which was house pastrami, swiss, brown mustard, tavern slaw, and fried egg on grilled rye. I will say up-front that this is not a place you would go if you only want healthy options for the family. The place was pretty crowded when we got there at 2pm on Saturday. We waited around 30 minutes, but it was okay because my parents got cocktails at the bar, and my dad ordered their house-made tots and chicharonnes for us, and we went outside and sat on their patio. The tots were good, but I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and the Tots at Lucha in Georgetown, CO, are better (and so is the Sriracha dipping sauce; the Highland tots come with ranch which was fresh with herbs and good). The chicharonnes are fun, but there was not nearly enough of the red seasoning salt on them - they should have been tossed in it, but instead it was just barely sprinkled on the ones at the top. No one really wanted the plain ones -- which was most of them. They just didn't have enough flavor. We finally were seated and had good service throughout the whole meal. One of the owners came and chatted with us and it was fun hearing him talk about how the Triple D publicity has effected their business. My dad and brother ordered the Green Chili and both liked it -- it had a lot of meat and just the right amount of heat. My dad also tried a cup of the red chili which was smokey with black beans. He liked that, as well. We also had the Crispy Confit Chicken Wings with Buffalo sauce which were pretty large and my parents said were fine. We then waited a very long time for our entrees -- my dad's Bombshell (they said he got the last one of the day...), my brother's cheeseburger, and my grilled cheese. All of the food was good; the wait for our food was just way too long. But, the server was cheerful and apologetic, and she made the whole experience of the too-long wait seem not so bad at all. There is no kids menu -- I guess because this place is more of a bar/tavern. But they have a real-deal chef, so it's a lot more than a bar with bad bar food. Everything that we ordered seemed to be fresh and house-made -- the salad dressings, chili's, pastrami, tots, you name it. There are flat-screen TVs everywhere playing football games. There are also other games -- pool table, ping-pong table, foosball, and Big Buck Hunter. The only downside other than the wait was that the small trash cans in the ladies room were overflowing with paper--not a good thing. The Highland Tavern is a really good neighborhood place where you can take your kids for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner. We are fans and we will be back! read more

Was physically assaulted by staff member while discussing the ride service and extra charge on our check, ask for managers name and was told they don't have one... Asked for owners name and number and they decided it would be funny to give me the number to the restaurant so when I called it they all got a good laugh when the in house phone rang... When I finally asked the entire group of staff I was dealing with for their names ( who were also all drinking on shift at the same time this was going on ) one staff member verbally threatened me then backed it up with physical action, I have cuts under my eye and choke marks on my neck... Still waiting on a personal response from owners... But I guess this is what happens when you let staff try and manage themselves... Especially this particular staff, who all seemed just slightly inept, putting it nicely, anyway please learn from my experience... read more
