I have been to Hilights Salon a few times since 2012. I usually have Gina doing my hair and I think I have had Kendra once when I was a walk in. When I normally get my hair done by Gina, it comes out fantastic. However, this time around I booked an appointment with Tricia because she had an opening. I was a bit apprehensive because I was so used to Gina but boy was I in for a surprise. Tricia scooped me in and took me to a chair immediately and starting to wash my hair. Their hair products smell fantastic by the way. She talked to me the whole time she was washing my hair. She then led me to another chair where she was going to chop my hair off because I decided not to get my haircut every six months like I'm supposed to. So then she started chopping it off and as she chopped it off, she explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. She asked me questions about myself, my life and other things. Let me tell you, she's a people person. Tricia began drying my hair and she did it so softly, never pulled on my hair (neither did Gina). She then explained to me things I should do to my hair like glaze it and a frizz free blowout and why they are beneficial to my hair. She gave me a face frame and REAL bangs. She cut about 3 to 3 1/2 inches off and the best part was that she asked me if that was okay (all the stylists at Hilights ask you. That doesn't happen at many other salons). I decided to book my next hair cut appointment with her six months from now like she told me. I think I'm gonna try the hair glaze with her next time. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my new haircut. My hair is so soft, healthy, and gorgeous. I'm pretty sure she will be my go-to stylist from this day forward. Myself, I generally avoid haircuts dentists, doctors, or anything you have to make an appointment for, before I made my first appointment with Tricia I was doing my own haircuts which was essentially a bic razor 2yrs prior. Annnyway Tricia was very friendly and worked very well off a picture I printed out ( I'm new to this whole hair-cutting trend) and helped point me in the right direction as to where to donate it. As it stands now she is the family "stylist?" I guess you'd say, She does my fiancee, her parents and her brother... myself when available, but like I said I dont make too many appointments in general but they are also very good with walk-ins too. After getting a bad cut elsewhere, I looked at reviews on Yelp for a new place that could (hopefully) provide a fix - and before I went out at the end of the week! I called on a Wednesday (I think) and the very pleasant receptionist gave me a Friday morning appointment with Deena. Boy did I get lucky! She listened to what I had to say before making suggestions of her own and I told her to go with what she thought would be best. The results were awesome! I was really impressed with how she was able to give me a cut that looks good whether I wear my hair curly or straight. Unlike a lot of salons I've been to in the area (you know the ones - no supplies put away, a dirty microwave and coffee pot in a corner, knickknacks littering every available surface), this one was very clean and professional-looking. They have those great modern, freestanding shampoo sinks that don't kill your neck or the stylist's back (one of my great traumas from my days in beauty school). My blow-out was great too and the final price was VERY reasonable. I will absolutely be going back and won't hesitate to recommend this place to others. (Though I'm tempted to take points off for being right across the street from Wendy's - thank god it was 10 in the morning or I'd have been over there scarfing down some chicken nuggets. Edit at bottom: I asked the stylist to cut off 6 inches and instead she cut off 12 inches. Two months later I still have no idea what went wrong.... I hadn't had a haircut in 18 months due to the pandemic so my hair was down to my waist. I asked the very nice young stylist to cut off six inches; then I showed her on my back how long it should be (about halfway down my back); then I compared it to the length of her hair. So I gave her three points of reference. We chatted the whole time she was working; she seemed to know what she was doing. After the first cut, she pushed a lock of my hair over my shoulder for me to see the length and it was only two inches below my shoulders. I was shocked and said, don't cut it any shorter. I kept thinking, maybe it will seem longer when she is done, maybe I'm overreacting. I had told her I wanted to keep my long layers; somehow I left with an angled bob, even though she had asked about my hair care routine and I told her I'm very low maintence. I'm a really non-confrontational person, so when she was all done and said "Doesn't it look great?", I just nodded, paid and left. Then I sat in my car and cried. I still don't know what happened. I've gone through stages of confusion and anger. Look, I know it's just hair and it will grow back, but why would you do that to someone? I called to talk to a manager and was told she would be in the next day; when I explained why I was upset, the person on the phone said, well I'm not sure what we can do for you--we can't grow your hair back for you. At this point I gave up and didn't bother calling back. Why did this happen? Edit: The owner/manager contacted me and was very apologetic, explaining that she spoke to the stylist and it was a misunderstanding. She offered to do extra treatments for free. Obviously customer service is very important to her, and I appreciate that in a business. Mistakes happen; we are all human. read more

So my mom and I went to Annalyse for a cut. This was my first time at the salon and when we walked in we were warmly greeted and offered drinks by the girl in the front. All the girls in the salon were extremely sweet and welcoming. I got a cut/ protein treatment and blow out and I loved it. I've been mortified to get my hair cut for the past year because of constant bad experiences but she did a phenomenal job with the cut and style. My mom also enjoyed her cut! She plans on going back to get her color done by Annalyse bc they offer ammonia free products which is perfect for my mom. I used to live down the street from this salon so it was very convenient for me. Now I live 2 hours away and I still go there! I wouldn't let anyone else cut my hair, so it is well worth the drive! I also have really curly hair that no one ever seemed to be able to cut well, I always walked out looking like a poodle. At this salon I have never had a problem, in fact I have had many different styles as well. For a girl with curly hair I was usually only give one option or two max. DO NOT GO HERE!! This salon is a scam and just takes your money. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing ad charge an insane amount. I spent over a year growing out my natural hair color (which is a light/medium brown) and just wanted a few light pieces at the ends - nothing to the root - like the attached photo. What I received was orange and bleach blonde/cheap looking hair. Absolutely horrific!! Paid almost $300 and am told I cannot receive a refund. I went to another salon and had it fixed and what they told me what was done to my hair is the complete opposite of what I wanted. The salon I got my hair fixed at also mentioned they get A LOT of clients that go to them to fix mistakes from this place. Save yourself the money and go somewhere else! read more

This place is wonderful and so unassuming. I typically am let down when I get my haircut. Frequently I feel let that my haircut is just so so, and it is such a drain financially. Hilights was totally different. The staff was friendly and able to fit me in the same day I called to make the appointment. Deena, was friendly thoughtful and gave me the perfect haircut. She listened to what I wanted and gave me the fresh asymmetrical style I was hoping for. She used quality products on my hair and communicated what she was doing as she did it. I was also very impressed with how clean the whole salon was. As well as how competitive the price was. It is so nice to have a new stylist I can trust, and I am sure I will go to again and again. Another great service, this place never disappoints! I found this place through Yelp and saw the reviews and gave it a try because I wanted to get a cool toned blonde balayage and eventually go blonder. Linda is the best when it comes to going from dark brunette to blonde. I've been coming here for a little over a year and the times I come out of the salon I look better then the last time. Linda is super nice and she always knows how to take great care of my hair and explains everything she is going to do to my hair and is transparent with the outcome of my hair and price. It's pricey but I think you get what you paid for with service, care and time and to me it's worth the price. She is honestly a perfectionist when it comes to my hair and takes the time to make sure it comes out beyond my expectations. I have actually never left a negative review on any place of business before as I like to support all businesses, but I am so frustrated- I booked a makeup appointment for an important event tonight for 2:30 this afternoon. This morning when the salon opened I called to see if it was possible to switch my appointment to later in the day. I specifically said if it was an issue no problem I would keep my 2:30 appointment! The girl was very friendly and assured me it was no problem and offered me several later times. I rebooked for 4:15pm. I was just called 5 min ago (as I was about to leave) that they are backed up and can no longer keep my appointment. The event is in two hours I do not have any of my own makeup with me as I planned to get it done. Terrible terrible service. I offered to wait as long as I could be finished by 5:30 since I really needed to keep my appointment. The girl couldn't care less and said "sorry she's doing a really big job on a client right now" so you just cancel her other clients for the day?!?! Leaving them without the services they needed/booked. So unprofessional. I almost couldn't believe it, especially how nonchalant the girl who called me to inform me they were canceling me 15 min prior to my appointment was when I was upset. read more

I just found my new go to hair salon. It's chic, big and has great hours. Everyone was super friendly. I got a cut and blow dry and it was only $25!! I was literally in shock. Generally places like this charge $60-$80 for a cut/dry with my think horse like hair. Matt (my stylist) was professional and cut my hair to perfection. He knew how to thin it out without needing any details. He just KNEW exactly how to work my hair. I wish I found this place sooner. Love love this place!!! The ladies are all very courteous and with a big smile. Place is cleans and organized, you don't see people on top of each other running around with scissors or hair dye. It isn't over crowded which tells me they make an appointment with you and only you in order to give you that one to one quality time. Miriam is my stylist, she is absolutely great! Thanks for your response Trish. When I first called I was told that 'you' wouldn't be available to redo my hair for a week and a half. They told me I would need to see another girl to fix my hair. When I received the confirmation email it looked like two separate girls were booked . One for the dye and one for the blow out which would have cost even more with double tips as I would never not tip someone even if it was to fix my process. I understand you dyed, trimmed, and did a blow out process. As for the product. I was told by you that the Redkin product was part of the keratin blow out. The other box that you gave me I did not ask for . I told you that I had my own hairspray at home that I liked a lot and whatever you used on my hair during the process I didn't like as it made my hair stiff. I am almost 100% sure you said that was a gift. It is was not I guess it wasn't made clear and I wasn't aware I was purchasing. I think you should have been a little clearer. read more

I Recently moved to the Lyndhurst area and I was having my Engagement photos done on Sunday June 25, 2017. So I used Yelp to find a salon within walking distance from my apartment and with good reviews which led me to call Hilights Salon. I called a week in advance to schedule an appointment. The women on the phone seemed friendly and was talking to me about what I needed done and also informed me that new clients must make a $50 deposit to hold their appointment which then factors into the total cost when you come on your scheduled day/ time. I told her I wanted partial highlights and a small trim just to keep my hair healthy. The women on the phone told me that my total should come to around $100-$125. The deposit and price was fine but then I kept being placed on hold for over 10 minutes to then continues trying to schedule my appointment. As I was about to give her my credit card info for the deposit I was placed on hold again for over 10 minutes again so I hung up. Later that same day they called me back and I was able to pay the deposit. So a week goes by and it's Friday June 23, 2017 and my appointment was scheduled for 3:30pm. They called me on Wednesday to remind me of my appointment which I liked because I have a busy schedule so little reminders are good in my book. Friday came around and I was getting a partial highlight and a small trim with Deena who is a level 4. I was greeted by her assistant Mathew whom I was not expecting since I was not informed that she had an assistant. If I had known I don't know if I would have gone with a stylist who has an assistant because then I feel obligated to tip both and I did not plan on spending more than $150. So that was okay because Mathew was very friendly and helpful and Deena was also really nice and easy to talk to. As we were talking about my hair they mentioned a few other things I should do to make my highlights last longer so I said fine and she gave me the total before she stared working in me hair.... my total was $227 with out the $50 deducted + a tip still needed to be paid on top of that. So that was not what I was expecting but I wanted my hair to look really good for my photos so I bit the bullet and said okay. I ended up being at the salon for 2.5 hours after everything was all said and done. My hair looked really light in their lighting which is what I wanted so I paid and went home. When I got home in my bathroom lighting the front few pieces of my hair were grey. The glaze applied made it to Ashy. So I freaked out a little because my photos were in 2 days. I called back right away and the women in the phone said no problem and they would fix it no charge if I come in tomorrow (Saturday). So the next day I came in and was kindly greeted by Mathew and Deena. They sat me down fixed it- used a glaze to make the color look warmer and it looked so much better. They wanted me to be happy which I greatly appreciated. So overall I was happy with the quality of work that they do and the way my hair turned out once it was fixed. A little pricier than what I'm used to but if it comes out as good as it did once we got the right glaze then it's worth it. I give them the benefit of the doubt because I was new and they have to get used to my hair too. I would go back again and I would recommend. Thank you Deena and Mathew! :) read more

This is probably THE BEST place to do coloring process to your hair. They are true professionals about it. They can come up with the best color and exactly as you describe it. Their advices are so good and the whole experience is super nice. The only reason that refrains me from 5 stars is the fact that the blowout quality was not as good as I am used to. Maybe because I have very coarse, curly hair and it makes it more challenging and difficult for the stylist.
