We recently went to breakfast at a local chain and it really wasn't great. We were going to try another one within the chain to see if it was better but then thought of trying Peggy's! Such a great mom and pop. 3 out of 4 of us ordered skillets. Meat, eggs, home fries and a side of toast. I was surprised to see no gravy, but after digging in, I think the gravy would have made the dish too heavy. The fries were crispy, the sausage moist but crispy on the outside and the eggs perfect. Service was great and they were pet friendly. Allowing us to bring our dog inside, to a single table away from patrons. Very responsible and considerate to the rest of the patrons. Went there again, big mistake. I said last time we went about 3 months ago, would not go back. Shame on me, went again, and crappy food once again. Omelet was paper thin, home fries looked like thawed out frozen potatoes never cooked. And you now pay $2.95 for potatoes, not included with omelet, what! Asked waitress to remove charge since potatoes were awful. My husband's comment was that "it would be embarrassing to bring anyone here". My first thing I noticed was no one had mask on. I asked the waitress about this. She said, Edgewater does not mandate them. Really, you have to have something mandated to do it? Place was clean, even checked the verticals, strings and window sills along with moving condiment baskets to check for "leftovers." Floor and crevices were clean as were the seats.....so far so good, huh? How do you mess up a scrambled egg? I don't know but Peggy's cook should be able to tell you. Big chunk of solid egg runny on the inside and the rest......confetti. Pancakes, tasteless but the hash browns weren't; trouble is they didn't taste like hash browns tasted like "to be determined" couldn't put a distinct flavor but close to fishy-cucumber(?) and I only ate about two forkfuls. On to the omelet! Very thin fried egg wrapped around close to raw peppers, a glob of cheese (not melted) in the middle and excessive bits of ham. Some of the peppers the size of a nickel, the rest......bb's and as I implied, not sautéed and barely shown the flattop. Decaf coffee, yesterday's or very early morning. Sausage was decent and no waitstaff complaint. Told the cashier my complaint and she told the wife "so sorry" but no comp (free bad coffee would have killed 'em?) and definitely no sincerity. Never been to this establishment before, don't have an ax to grind, I don't own a competing restaurant and don't know anyone who does. Close to the biggest waste of 17+ bucks I can remember. We have been coming to Peggy's diner for 20 years, then it was sold not too long ago and the place nearly closed down because everyone stopped going. We saw it had recently reopened so we tried it this past weekend and found out Peggy repurchased it and we were thrilled UNTIL we experienced the new red headed manager!! Unfriendly, she was beyond rude and yelling at the staff who work very hard and we love them all as we've known these servers for years. It was GREAT when Peggy ran the diner, but now we will not return as long as this new manager is in place. She changed the menu, won't allow us to bring our dogs and sit outside anymore. She walked by several times with a scowl on her face and never once said hello or asked "how is everything" like Peggy used to. Peggy PLEASE get a new manager, one who treats your wonderful hard working employee's with courtesy and respect and cares about your long time customers who still love and support you and the diner after many many years. read more

Very unassuming at first, but me and my mom were served with sweet smiles and delicious food. It didn't take too long and we were able to make plans while we waited, the food came out and it just looked like food but it was amazing! The meat was fresh and juicy and I've never had a riper tomato! The best part was the bill! Only $20 for both of our meals, which had too much food for us to finish! They have very good fish on Friday but I must agree about the evening wait staff! They do have a new waitress now that is good but the other waitress seems to try to sabotage her! Fly in to Florida on Christmas and have no clue what's for dinner until we drive past Peggy's and see the sign "open for Christmas" and problem solved. I live in the area and used to own a restaurant as well so I know how tough it can be at times I've given this restaurant Peggy's country kitchen three opportunities to treat me as a customer the last opportunity was today I walked in no one greets me I sit at the countertop and started timing how long it would take someone to acknowledge me or bring me over a menu or wipe down the countertop in front of me three minutes I walked out I hope you have better luck.... My mother talked so much about how great Peggy's is and the stories she learned while going there quite often, last visit was 2014. Well, she is still apologizing for all the changes from decor and food. I'll start with how my mom spoke of Peggy's. Back in the day, friendly and walking in knowing you were going to get a good meal. The old pictures on the wall and the story of the bullet hole. "Peggy had all her fu-fu stuff and felt like home. Now it's bland and lifeless." Now onto food; I ordered the waffle Supreme and my mom and her friend ordered hamburgers. These were frozen favor less burgers vs the homemade ones that original owner did. Our food had missing items (toppings) but were very easy fixes. The waffle with all the toppings was good but no flavor in the waffle. Our waitress was new and very sweet and the place was clean. We will not return since the new owners changed what was not broken. read more
