Atmosphere (4/5): This restaurant is definitely not a fine dining experience. Going in, my expectation was just a small diner in town with great reviews. The staffs were very welcoming and it made me and my husband feel good. Service (5/5): There were two people in the restaurant. The guy who was cooking was always smiling and was honest. The lady who helped with serving food was also very kind. It feels like you are invited to a your friend's house. Also the wait for food was very quick. We were the first in line for dinner but food came out very fast and they weren't pre-cooked. Fresh made food! Food (4/5): We ordered ceaser salad with gyro meat, onion rings and chicken wings. It was our first time there and the portion was very generous. The gyro meat was very well made and the onion ring was well done. The onion ring was only $3.95 but it was more food than buffalo wild wing's basket of onion rings. Overall, the food was clean and fresh. Again, we weren't looking for fine dining but it met our expectations. They have open kitchen and you can see the cooking process if you want. Price (5/5): Less than $30 for two people including appetizer, two entrees, two drinks and complmentary homemade dessert cake. That is also including tips. Overall I will give 4.5/5 personally but making yelp review point 5/5 is totally fine by me. I would definitely return when I crave home cooked soul food. read more

This place truly never disappoints. We walked in for lunch while doing errands on Father's Day and I was having a hard time deciding between the gyro, the tuna melt, and a buffalo chicken wrap. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap because I don't believe I've had it previously. As we were waiting for our food, Jim the owner came by to wish us a Happy Father's Day. He said he had some very fresh haddock that he would back with a red sauce, broccoli and rice pilaf if we were interested. It was such a kind gesture I felt I had to say yes (that and I really enjoy haddock). What he put in front of me was amazing. Broccoli grilled in olive oil was perfection. The fish with a red sauce was the best I've ever had. The rice pilaf after being under the fish and sauce was also great. 5 star meal for a 1 star price. Friendly the whole time. Comforting diner but quality of food was nothing extraordinary. From the outside, this place does not even look like a restaurant. When you walk in, there is nothing flashy or impressive. Typically when I see 5 stars on Yelp for a place like this, I expect a delicious hole-in-the-wall restaurant! However, I was disappointed. The chicken souvlaki was okay. The serving size was decent but the tzatziki sauce was nothing to die over. It was a bit heavy as well. The fish n chips came with 2 huge pieces, battered extra thick and crispy. But in the end it just tasted like overcooked fish n chips. The one highlight was that the fries were cooked perfectly with a nice crisp! I would recommend getting this over a salad. But at the end of the day, they are just fries. This is a quaint diner with some Greek options but mostly American (even though Greek seems to be heavily advertised). The menu is small, which is fine, but the food on that menu is prepared like an old lunch lady works the kitchen: roast beef with mayo and lettuce? Buffalo chicken that is dry and without a blue cheese? Went there expecting other 5 star reviews to hold true, but the food was SO SO SO BLAND and tasteless, it felt like we missed a meal. Staff was nice, place was clean, yada yada, but let's be real, most of us would eat in dives if the food was great, and tolerate unpleasant service if the food was also great. Lunch today ! Chicken lemon soup- huge bowl - Just right - light and flavorful! Shared with hubby. Cheesesteak very good quality flavorful beef . A tad less oil would have been better . I've ordered from here a couple of times. Today I just HAD to write a review. We ordered the Gyros and being extremely fussy with Greek food I was a little nervous about ordering this. We were starving and stopped here for the Fish and chips which had good reviews. From the outside it doesn't even look like a restaurant, and inside is very plain and not to exciting either. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. The fish and chips didn't dissapoint, however, with that being said, we've been eating a lot of friend seafood and so far I haven't found any place that is as good as George's Surf and Turf in Mendon. Their fish is always super fresh and delicious. This was ok, the fish itself was good, but the batter I didn't really care for. The fries were just average fries, and the onion rings reminded me of Burger kings. Small, round, and like they weren't made from scratch. Here's a quick list of reasons why I keep coming back to Hillside: 1.) First time we went, we were given delicious home-made Greek cookies 2.) Whenever I eat here I have leftovers for another full meal or two - huge portions 3.) I'm called "princess" when I walk in the door (which I don't hate, tbh) and when I come with my dad, he is greeted with "HEY GUY!" and it's kind of adorable 4.) Mr. V is a really colorful story-teller who readily stops by tables to chat 5.) When they found out I adopted a puppy, they told me to bring him and they'd move a table outside for dinner - sure enough I showed up with my dog and they moved out a table and chairs, and brought my pup a piece of bacon too 6.) And last week while walking my dog, I stopped in to buy a bottle of water and they refused to let me pay We are so lucky to have this little gem with delicious food served by a wonderful family in our town. This place is PERFECT!! So I was driving home from a long road trip with my family and my wife suggested we stop somewhere for lunch. I wasn't very familiar with the area (I live about 40 minutes away), so I used the Yelp Monocle feature (mobile app only) and Hillside popped up. It had 4 1/2 stars, but it said "Greek" so, not being a big fan of Greek food, I didn't click it. Not sure why, but something told me to look it up on Yelp anyway. When I did, I learned that the menu was not Greek specific and the reviews were so overwhelmingly positive, I had to give it a shot. Honestly, I am struggling with writing this review because the experience was so amazing, I'm not sure I can do it justice. Here goes... 1. The food was so good, I mean SO GOOD that I almost hyperventilated. I had what might be one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had in my life. Also, the bun was badass. Good luck finding that bun anywhere else. My wife got a pastrami sandwich and that too was off the charts. My daughter had a BLT and yup, ridiculous. However, the best thing we had was the Greek mac & cheese. HOLY HELL! It was freakishly fantastic. I recall I was moaning while eating it. 2. The menu was not huge which means they are really focused on perfecting their dishes and are not going to serve up mediocre garbage because they are spreading themselves too thin. 3. The ingredients were top shelf. No doubt about it. Premium quality through and through!! 4. The place was immaculate!! Even the bathrooms were pristine. 5. The service...as good as the food!!! Jimmy, one of the owner's was so incredibly nice. He spent a little time with us and cared so much about our experience. He also provided some candy for the kids and let us sample some desserts his wife made. He was such a great guy. Same goes for his son, also an owner (John maybe?), who worked behind the counter. Without a doubt, this was the best customer service experience I have ever had at a food establishment (and that includes an experience at a Gordon Ramsey 5 star restaurant). We felt very appreciated and cared for. I'd keep going, but I am probably going to run out of characters soon. Needless to say, even though I live 40 minutes away, I'll be back again and again. Excellent Food! Go for the meals...stay for the Baklava!!! As 10 year residents we couldn't wait for an opportunity to try out this new restaurant in town.. It is Greek inspired fare with some american classics. I was told the menu was a tester that they rolled out to see what people were interested in and the finalized menu would be out by May 2013. We discussed the possibilities with the cook and placed our order...Once the food was done he brought it to us at our table. He stated the favorites are their thin crust pizzas, roast beef sandwich and fish and chips. Our party had the "Fish and Chips" which was a perfectly cooked piece of haddock served with cole slaw and french fries. The fish was excellent. A lot of times a fish and chips consists of a sub par piece of white fish trudged through batter and deep fried in oil that lends the fish that 'sort of tastes like everything fried in the last 2 days' flavor...Not this fish. It was lightly breaded..it was a delicate thin film of breading that was nearly transparent in some spots and thicker around the edges. This kept the fish light and low in oil. It also allowed the flavor of the fish to come through. It was perfect. The fries were also very good..they were on the crispy side, but that's how I like them. We also had the chicken kebob on salad with a side of broccoli. The chicken was fantastic. It was infused with sever different flavors from the pre-cooking treatment and then the meat was fried on the grill and the cubes were seared black and served. Very good chicken with a lot of flavor. Salad was fresh and crunchy and made to order...you want it on it? They'll put it on it.. And last but definitely not least was the cheeseburger...Of course this is your usual staple at any place you go but this burger was quite good. It was grilled to perfection with 2 slices of cheese on top and served on a rounded rectangular greek? bun that was great unto it's self. The patty had a good flavor of beef was not too greasy. As we finished our dinner the owner? came buy with a dessert tray full of fresh baklava that was sooooooooo good...you know what I mean? 40 layers of buttery sugary nutty goodness that you close your eyes and dip your head as you eat each bit to savor the taste and hope it penetrates every taste bud in your mouth!! We were told it was made fresh that day with 4 different nuts...it really was so excellent. I would say initially it may have seemed a tad pricier than other similar looking restaurants but left feeling we got our moneys worth. Dinner for 3 will run you about $35....Excellent atmosphere. There is a single HDTV for sports viewing. Bathrooms were brand new so very clean. You will find plenty of parking around back and seats inside for probably 25 people. The beverages were bottled pepsi products. We were given metal utensils..so that was a nice surprise. What a great personalized experience it was to dine here tonight. Very friendly and genuine. It's nice to see small business putting out such a great product. A+ to the Hillside Grill! A new favorite in town! read more

My husband and I stopped here on our drive home from New Hampshire (we live in New York). We looked up some places off the highway and came across this place. Based on the awesome reviews it had, we decided to give it a try. I ordered the Greek salad and added chicken (I think the upcharge was a few dollars). The portion was huge! Everything tasted fresh and the chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked thoroughly. My husband ordered chicken suolvaki with a side Greek salad (instead of fries). He said it was very good- he said portion size was perfect and all ingredients tasted fresh. We also ordered a side of Mac and cheese because we had read someone's review that it was excellent- and plus, who doesn't love a little comfort food? The side portion was huge! Great cheese to pasta ratio- the only thing was that it was a little too buttery for my liking. The owner/chef (think his name is Johnny) was super nice and made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in- he even came over and let us try the fried zucchini sticks (on the house)!! Everything is decently priced. Don't judge the place by the outside , it doesn't really look like a restaurant - it looks like you are walking into a doctor's office- the place can use some curb appeal. This was a fantastic find!! They have many choices from sandwiches to pasta, salads and items off the grill. Almost everything was $10 or under, and they were more than willing to make adjustments (for example, offered my fiancé bacon on his burger and added it free of charge). What made this a 5-star experience was the service. The guy behind the counter seemed to be the owner. He was extremely friendly and welcoming. We were searching for a quick bite last Saturday while leaving a gymnastics' meet. Saw Hillside on Yelp and called ahead! Reservations are not necessary at this fabulous, home cooked restaurant. The fish and chips were delicious, Greek salad was fresh and yummy, and the Souvlaki was superb. The spinach pie and Greek cookies that just "showed up" were such a wonderful treat, but Jimmy steals the show. Really interesting, generous and humorous owner with many fascinating stories. My brother and I were looking for somewhere nearby to just grab a quick dinner. I stumbled upon this place on Yelp and suggested it to my brother, who was a bit dubious since there are not that many great restaurants in Northborough! Hillside Grill was great! The servers and chefs are all very friendly, and my brother and I were both pleasantly surprised by the food. He got a tuna melt, and all of the ingredients were very fresh. I got the honey BBQ chicken wings from the appetizer menu, and they were really good. Highly recommended! We also got the fish and chips, and the fish was very fresh and crispy on the outside, and well cooked on the inside. The fries are perfect, my brother says he's never had better fries! They're crispy and not too salty, and they come with most entree's. I definitely recommend Hillside Grill if you're looking for a bite to eat around town. :) read more

My husband and I visited Hillside Grill again today, and it was just as fabulous as last time. This little family restaurant is a gem! We ordered the antipasto salad, steak and cheese sandwich, and pastrami sandwich. Everything was completely delicious! One of the gentlemen working last time was also there this time and remembered to only put onions on one half of the salad, and that was a month and a half ago. A lovely older Greek gentleman was working also, and he gave us two very generous pieces of "mama's cheese pie" to have "for breakfast with our coffee" tomorrow morning as well as two pieces of home made baklava to take home with us. You could tell he was incredibly proud of his restaurant and his food. We were a little concerned there wasn't much of a crowd. New businesses often fight an uphill battle, and it would be a shame for Hillside Grill to lose that battle. Please visit them (and visit them again!) You definitely won't regret it! read more

I had the chicken souvlaki and my spouse had steak and cheese. It was very good. I felt my chicken souvlaki was slightly salty. That being said, we will return to try other items on the menu. Very limited drink selections. FYI No fountain drinks here. Pro: kid friendly and there is a baby changing station as well.
