I came here for brunch on Monday morning and everything was fantastic. It has been a little while since I visited last. I absolutely love the concept of having breakfast all day long. But there are also other great lunch options too if you want a sandwich, salad or a burger. I got the two egg breakfast and some iced tea. My friend got the tuna melt! Super disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. Service was okay, the staff was nice. The Mac and cheese was warm and bland. The fries were cold. I was excited to try their Saturday BBQ special. I unfortunately was not able to eat it because it was too cold. I ate half of my fiancés burger because it was hot but it only tasted okay. Oh hillside cafe what happen. First of all my family contributed to buying food during COVID time to help support the cafe and this was a go to for a nice dinner. We usually have a nice time and tip well. However, I usually don't leave a review for a bad time if there is a new waitress or waiter, but this time was an exception. The restaurant was busy but didn't stay busy during our stay. The waiter was nice but the manager or owner ( I'm not sure) was unprofessional. I was surprised to say the least. 14 minutes into our stay he came to our table and said you ready to order food before our drinks were order we cordially said we are still trying to find our drinks such as IPA's and he seemed off. He was taken a back and made sure he or the waiter didn't come back for 24 minutes. (Yes I was timing). Keep in mind the restaurant was winding down and no longer busy. Once drinks and food came the breakfast burrito was cold in the middle. I was surprised and had to take another bite. But yes it was not my imagination. We called the waiter back to give it back to have it warmed up. Keep in mind the burrito was waiting for the rest of food to be cooked so it was made all earlier and tasted that way. The manager or owner( I'm not sure who he is) spoke to the waiter that took the pre-cooked cold breakfast burrito back and rolled his eyes and laughed. Sooo, this was 8 feet away from our table and my wife and I were staring at them. After microwaving the burrito and giving it back the waiter stopped coming to our table. I asked for a to go box for my wife's microwaved pre-cooked breakfast burrito. He brought a cup of lemon aid that was off. It tasted old and just off. Then we had to get a box. The manager or owner came back and did ask if everything was ok and I responded yeah the burrito is warm now thank you he just laughed and walked away. So, needless to say I would not leave a review if there was a new waiter but this experience was off and before the manager or owner responds to this review and starts blaming my family and I. Make it right next time and wait until our family have left and paid before rolling your eyes and laughing. Just make it right. This establishment has always been my go to but I feel I need a long break from this establishment for a while. I don't like leaving a bad review but this was not a good service at all and the waiter did not even come back to ask if there was anymore drinks or anything sales we waited to buy from them and it reflected in the tip. I will miss hillside and the fun times. I look forward to hearing from the establishment blaming me and my family and that's ok. Farewell old friend i hope the staff is trained better for other families. P.S. my wife and I had gastrointestinal distress later that night which lasted well into the next day and had to through the food away we took home so it was a waste time and money. read more

Pulling into the parking lot, I was skeptical of Hillside Spot Cafe & Market. It shares a parking lot with the McDonald's (no offense!). I'm pleased to say this is a lovely, farm-to-table restaurant and worthy of a visit. The service is delightful - friendly hostess stand and a shout out to our great waitress, Kail. The menu is vast - breakfast and beyond. It's not a five-star experience because my food was too bland. I'll come back, but definitely want to explore the menu more. I ordered the soup of the day, which was chicken tortilla soup. I love this type of soup and it looked beautiful (see pic!), but it was flavorless. The chicken nachos tinkled a craving, but again I found it tasting unseasoned. Good, but not great menu choices IMO. The ambiance is industrial and loud, but family-oriented. What took me so long to try this cute, yummy cafe? My friend and I sat on the patio by the fireplace. It was a bit chilly outside, but beautiful day. We had lunch special of a half a sandwich with a small salad. And it was delicious! We both had the tuna sandwich on grilled sourdough. So yummy. I can't remember what salad she got but she loved it. I got the derby salad and it was absolutely amazing. This is going to be a new fave for me. It was great for a friend lunch date. But also fun for family My friend says she often goes here for breakfast and their breakfast is amazing and their lattes are as well. So maybe my next visit will be breakfast. This is a decent option for something local, but it's never my first choice. I can't count on one hand how many times I've been here, and my meals have been 50/50. I like one of their salads, and the breakfast plate (eggs, sausage, hash browns) was okay too. Aside from the sausage, the meat I've had has been super dry. The establishment looks cute at the entrance and then gets rather mundane. Let me start by saying the chairs are VERY uncomfortable. Not off to a great start. The food was average at best. My biggest fear was confirmed, my "made to order" omelet was overcooked with burnt bacon and the spinach was very dry. The food was brought out by a runner and our server was AWOL, so we had to flag a different person down to bring out some jam. While we waited for our food, we noticed that the place is in dire need of some renovation. The "silverware" is the cheap stuff you'd find in a college dorm, my husband's plate was plastic while mine was ceramic, the shades behind us were torn with food stains all over and the wall looked like it had seen better days 20 years ago. I stumbled across Hillside because I showed up an hour too early for the farmers market down the street (opposite ends of a small plaza). I spotted the "cafe" sign and decided a coffee shop would be a great option to fill the time than driving home and driving back (I live 5 minutes away). To my surprise, I was welcomed by walls full of beers and wine bottles before the huge menu of coffee options caught my attention. I almost changed my mind and bought half a dozen of beers instead lol!! And then I realized it was only 8:15am. I came to my senses and ended up with a cup of cappuccino. The ratio of coffee and milk was on point and I was satisfied. I can't rate the dine-in service just yet, but the couple short interactions I had with the barista and the cashier was good. My Wife and I try random places and came across this little spot in Ahwatukee. I wouldn't say it was the best food I ever had however it was good food. The menu was surprisingly diverse, which can be a bad thing however it wasn't. My wife got a quesadilla and the chips and Dips sampler. I got a carne asada bowl minus a bunch of stuff because I trying to eat better. While the portions are huge, they were enough. The food tasted okay, again, nothing I'd get excited about but good nonetheless. You enter through their small market, which was cool. You can buy beers and wine. The places was cozy. Ther service was quick as well. The waiter actually helped me out because I didn't realize my bowl didn't coke with meat, you had to ask for it. 3.5 stars. This spot is located on Warner just west of the I-10. They had a fairly extensive menu and serve breakfast all day which honestly is a plus for me. We shared a side of quac and chips and it was quite good. I got a croque madame with sub French fries and it was tasty but nothing amazing. It was really really good with pear sliced thinly inside, not overwhelmed by cheese. It didn't get sloppy at all or fall apart as I ate it. My salad was the Brooklyn chop which was full of cucumbers, pistachios, sun dried tomatoes, and more! Full of flavor! I would be happy to eat a full portion of either of these! My boyfriend had the farmers omelette and said it was great, don't forget to get hash browns because the side of fruit is a little small. Nice assortment of greens and herbs plus crisp jicama and sweet apple. The Thai Peanut Dressing was perfect. What am I missing? *Asado* translates to "barbecue or roast". Lost a star for the inappropriate name of the salad. On the way out we saw scones on the front counter and decided to share one. Had visit before with excellent service. Took a fried for breakfast on Sat. Morning and asked to be seated outside. Was told we had to wait so we opted to sit inside. After sitting near windows we could see several tables outside were empty...no one waiting when we came in. Another couple seated outside minutes after we were seated inside. Sat for 10 or more minutes with NO acknowledgement from any wait staff. Decided to leave. Told very young hostess we were leaving as we received no service and her response was "OK, fine" I see the problem, but she was clearly okay with the situation. A year or so ago we went to Hillside Spot restaurant and paid with a debit card. The next day our bank account had been emptied and a couple of charges had been made against the card to local businesses. We were made good through our credit union and decided never to go there again, and if we did, we'd use a credit card. We didn't go to the restaurant and accuse them, but we had every reason to suspect them. Fast forward to Thursday last week, we went there again, but used a credit card. Today is Monday, and I got a text from the credit card company saying they'd refused a charge for $300 for tickets to a show. I called them and made sure the card was cancelled. This is the second time we've had this happen EVER, and we are now convinced this establishment has something to do with it. I'm going to inquire of the police what can be done, because I called Hillside and left them a voicemail about it, and posted here, but they never responded here or by return phone call. read more

There's a coffee shop up front, along with grab and go beer (well, grab, pay, and go, or drink it there), and then a bar, inside seating, and a nice patio (though screeching birds! No idea what was up with the birds that day). We arrived around 3 on a weekday and it was pretty quiet, but around 6 tables started to fill up. It had a very neighborhood vibe. This was a very dissapointing meal and service. I ordered a burger-was asked how I'd like it cooked-my answer-medium rare; for my side coleslaw. The burger had abolutely no pink in it-it was medium well to well done. I returned the slaw becuase it was kale and cabbage with what tasted like salted mayo-yuck! I replaced the slaw with fries-which were luke warm to cold and mushy. I did eat a little bit of my food because I was starving (skipped breakfast because this was a belated holiday lunch with good friends). When I told my server my burger was over cooked, I thought maybe a manager would come over and speak to me or maybe they might charge me half.
