Always enjoyable to stop in and the food is always enjoyable. The staff was nice and it is always better to make a reservation ahead of time as it gets busy. We would come by again

I really hate to say it but I deeply love Hillstone. I have been going to Hillstone for many years, and I truly feel blessed that it's been in every city I've ever lived in! Their quality control is insane. Every time I go the service is phenomenal, the food is delicious, and the martinis stay ice cold. Truly what more could someone want. All I truly want is for it to be easier to get a reservation hear, so that I can come back more often.

We were happy to have booked a reservation long before we arrived in NYC! This is one of our go to restaurants in Santa Monica. We were very pleased to see that the perfection and food and service is the same if not better in New York. I highly recommend eating here with your family. I promise you will not regret it.

hillstone is a new york classic. you know what you're getting - the food is so consistent and definitely lives up to the hype. portions are large and can definitely be split. my favorite of the sushi is the coconut shrimp - it's SO good?? of the mains - i weirdly LOVE the veggie burger (and i'm not a vegetarian). the off menu chicken sandwich is what all the people rave about. the french dip is good but i've had better other places. if there's one thing hillstone does exquisitely, it's the martinis. they switch out your glass mid-drink so that your glass is always cold... now THAT'S service. the ambiance is sexy dinner vibes. dimly lit. the bar is always a scene. waitress/waiters are always doing the most but if you don't have a reservation, the hostess is not very nice. you can't wait for a table with a group of 3 - needs to be 2 or 4. such a weird rule

A family favorite steakhouse! Ordered their signature Hawaiian ribeyes, knife and fork ribs, and spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. Would recommend all of these dishes to try. FYI the steaks are marinated (not dry rub) which gives it a sweeter flavor in my opinion (and why we love it). Service today was top notch! Lisa was our server, and she always brought a cold glass for cocktails, water, and plates before we had to ask. Hillstone does have a policy of accommodating tables of 4 or smaller. So, truly wish this would change in the future. In the meantime, will still keep coming back for the great food, service and jazz-filled ambiance. Make a reservation if you can! Walk-ins accepted, but wait times can be 1+ hr even for lunch.

Excellent service today. Came with hubby for birthday lunch and he was in awe. It was his first time here and my second and the food was amazing once again. Our server heard it was my bday and brought my dessert with a candle, so cute. The salads were amazing and the steak was chefs kiss. Can't wait to come back already! Highly recommend for a date night or night out with friends

Great vibes with attentive service and varied menu options, almost feels like an upscale girl dinner. The martinis are re-poured into chilled glasses, which was greatly appreciated. We shared the Ahi Tuna Salad, Artichoke Dip, Deviled Eggs, and the French Dip. The Ahi Tuna was so delicious and savory with the lingering sesame oil taste and the mango chunks were refreshing. But I enjoyed the French Dip the most - super soft pieces of the roast beef melt on your mouth and pairs deliciously with the au jus and horseradish. Was not a huge fan of the very skinny fries but I appreciated the varied condiments they provided.

Food here is amazing. I usually go for the sushi, but switched it up for the yellowtail salad. INCREDIBLE. The salad has a miso dressing that I would have ordered on its own as is. The Asian Noodle salad is also amazing. There are 2 bartenders that I love. Savannah and Nicole are amazing. They are attentive and make excellent drinks. They are also very friendly! The restaurant is also very nice inside. Has a darker decor which makes the atmosphere great for a romantic dinner, work lunch or just friends dinner or drinks. Highly recommend!

Made a reservation and wasn't seated until 10 minutes later with an empty-ish restaurant. It's a nice spot with dim lighting to set the mood. Service was pretty slow for a higher end restaurant, but the food was pretty good! The California Burger was thick, and the meat was seasoned very well. My friends really enjoyed the french dip and said it was one of the best they've ever had. The caesar salad dressing was just ok, but the croutons were really good, it was like a small bread. We also enjoyed the dessert as the chocolate was not too sweet (we found out it was belgian chocolate) I'd come back for a special occasion since my friends really liked the french dip, but would love to have quicker and friendly service.

was a very busy Monday evening .. my sis & I walked in and waited abt an hour for a seat at the bar. There were many professionals & groups of people, very lively atmosphere.. We were attended to quickly and kindly. We love the fries (extra crunchy) & a side of spicy Mayo is a MUST !! We love the KALE & ROTISSERIE CHICKEN SALAD.. it's so delicious !! A MUST !! (I get a Side of peanut sauce on the side for a lil extra sweetness & Nuttiness) First time at this location, we usually frequent the South Beverly Grill in Beverly Hills great experience.. will b back

So delicious!! Hard to get into but worth it! We had the French dip as well as the stacker. Artichoke was delicious and the steak as well! Drinks were strong lights dim 10/10 a great date night

Very nice place with quite interior and dimmed lights. Pretty quiet, so you don't need to do extra to talk. Service was there. Wouldn't say the most friendliest but very professional and attentive. Food is just too. French dip to die for! Drinks are also well made.

We're three young women in the service industry and still felt completely unwelcome--the hostess told us to find our own seating even though the sign said see hostess. The bartender was rude and uninterested, standing 5 min+ at the bar without even being acknowledged. Another staff member was dismissive when closing us out and rolled her eyes when asked to take cash. The overall vibe felt like we weren't wanted, even though it was only around 11 PM. The DJ was underwhelming and the bathroom was vile. The most pleasant part was the below average $20 drinks. For an expensive, well-known spot, this was a very poor experience. For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.
