I made a reservation for a really bad time (3:15) cuz nothing else was available ever... and when I saw how bad traffic was called to reschedule (literally 5 min. We love this chain--seriously, it never misses. From Boston (still not over Houston's closing), to San Francisco and Napa, it's always been our go-to, and this location might be one of the best yet. The service was incredible--they went above and beyond in every way and made the whole experience feel special. My wife and I actually made the trip from Boston to NYC just to eat here, and it was 100% worth it. The food is consistently amazing no matter the location or year. A family favorite steakhouse! Ordered their signature Hawaiian ribeyes, knife and fork ribs, and spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. Would recommend all of these dishes to try. FYI the steaks are marinated (not dry rub) which gives it a sweeter flavor in my opinion (and why we love it). Service today was top notch! Lisa was our server, and she always brought a cold glass for cocktails, water, and plates before we had to ask. Hillstone does have a policy of accommodating tables of 4 or smaller. NYC is down to one Hillstone. Don't be the reason it survives. A month to get a reservation. No walk-ins. And when you finally get in? We were made to stand for 20 minutes with no update, sat at two open bar seats with drinks already ordered, and were threatened with being refused service entirely. A staff member told me to my face it was my fault (for not able to stand any longer). The manager's solution was to tell us to keep waiting standing up away from the bar or leave. We left. Great vibes with attentive service and varied menu options, almost feels like an upscale girl dinner. The martinis are re-poured into chilled glasses, which was greatly appreciated. I've been here for special occasions a few times, and I just realized I've never written a review! I came for a birthday lunch, and I was seated at a very comfortable table, which was more than enough room for the four of us. I've typically only been here for dinner, so it was a first for me to come here for lunch. The menu was pretty similar, although I did notice that a particular dish with ribs was missing. I tried a bunch of new dishes this time for lunch, including the spinach and artichoke dip, the crispy chicken sandwich, the French dip sandwich, and the crispy tuna "Osaka style" sushi. Everything was delicious, but I will say the French dip was quite salty, especially once you dipped it in the broth. The shoestring fries were as good as I remember. Food was excellent as always. I've been here more times than I can count, the food is just that good. Over the years I've always had a great experience service, food, ambiance and all. This time was unfortunately different. The busser took our food away without asking if we were done while we were all actively still eating. We had ribs and salad left on the main plates that the three of us were sharing (taking portions from the main plates onto our personal plates). We notified our server just as a learning moment for the busser to ensure to ask guests before taking away their plates, or to ensure they are all done eating. The manager kindly came over, however his solution was to offer us another order of ribs and salad after we'd already been done eating and were waiting for the check for at least 10+ minutes and it was 10:15pm. We appreciate the sentiment but it would've been more appropriate to comp an appetizer, give a small discount, or provide a dessert. My guest never asked to return her steak, but was asked if everything was okay... and she responded the steak was a little well done. She was told.. let me get another one to your liking. The manager comes back to the bar 7 to 10 minutes later with the same steak saying "cut it in the middle" NO... she was loud and acting as though we wanted the steak for free. NOT the case. All in all, nothing we had was groundbreaking or extraordinary but it was satisfying and worth a try if you can snag a reservation. Got the French dip sandwich with real horseradish. Fries with aioli and ketchup. Both condiments were outstanding. Fries - too thin for my tastes. They make shoestring look fat. A really poor experience. We showed up at 11:55am without a reservation, but "luckily" there were several empty tables. The hosts are the variety that are too good to look you in the eye when they lie and tell you that they are fully booked (despite all the empty seats) but are happy to seat you at the bar. We didn't want to do that, so we were told that we could be given a table if there were no-shows (i.e., people who had a reservation and didn't show up). So we waited, and then we were told that the reason why we couldn't be given certain empty tables was that there were no servers around to service those tables, which they later acknowledge was a lie. After 40 minutes of waiting in total, the manager actually admitted that he would not give us a table -- even if empty/unused -- for the sole reason that we did not have a reservation. When I asked why they didn't just tell us 40 minutes prior, he couldn't provide an answer. read more
