I came to Hillstone for the first time for my birthday. It was a nice atmosphere with the lake at sunset and our server was very kind and genuine. We got the chicken sandwich, brussel sprouts, and steak special to share with a cocktail each. The brussel sprouts were not the crispy kind like most restaurant serve but were pretty good considering. The chicken and steak were delicious and drinks were refreshing. Went here for my friends birthday dinner and had a great time! The food is always amazing and our server was fantastic. My only criticism was the lady at the front desk was incredibly rude to our party. We were 1 minute past our reservation time and she made us wait over 40 minutes for the next table to become available. It felt like she was doing it on purpose to us without giving us an estimated time. This was hard because we weren't sure if we were going to be seated soon or if it was going to be awhile and maybe we should pivot to another restaurant. Hillstone in Winter Park is such a great spot for lunch. The energy was buzzing today. Service was top notch the entire time, not once did we have an empty cup or even an empty sugar packet on the table. So attentive!! The freshly squeezed grapefruit juice was absolutely perfect, not bitter, not sour, just right. The spinach and artichoke dip is honestly one of the best in town. It is so smooth and creamy, almost like they blend everything together so there are no big chunks. I could eat that dip alone and leave happy. Haha. For my main I had the pan seared trout topped with rock shrimp and it came with the most delicious slightly sweet coleslaw on the side. I couldn't have chosen a more somber place. The only happy person there seemed to be our waitress, and she was absolutely great. From the moment my friend and I walked in, there was no greeting and barely a smile from anyone. The restaurant is very dark inside, with comfortable booths and tables by the windows that offer a nice view of the water. The food was actually really good, but the overall experience and atmosphere were nowhere near five-star worthy. Great experience at this restaurant. To our surprise they were really busy for Sunday afternoon. The staff is very courteous and attentive. We ordered the chicken sandwich that was presented well with a side of fries. The fries could have been hotter. We also ordered the red trout but they were out and the replacement was artic char that was a pleasant surprise. Rock shrimp was served on top of the fish that was very flavorful. Tried the grapefruit asperol spritz that was really pretty but a little bitter. I added some Splenda and this made a big difference. First time diner at Hillstone. What a cozy and magical experience! The dark wood architectural touches feel so inviting and the ambient lighting was warm and romantic. Perfectly concocted and chilled libations arrived and we asked for and received a quite-nice spinach and artichoke dip appetizer. Piping hot and deliciously appetite inducing. We finished the plate. A Wedge Salad started our meal and the only complaint were the unnecessary "copper pennies" (carrots) and soft croutons. Really soft. Not appetizing. We had decided to split the double pork chop, which was cooked to ABSOLUTE perfection. The Potatoes Colcannon were heavenly and a creamy culinary delight, served alongside of a perfectly al dente broccoli that couldn't have been better! Our stunningly gorgeous sunset view of Lake Killarney and the soft ambient music was the icing on the cake of a truly splendid and memorable date night. Hillstone in Winter Park continues to be one of my favorite restaurants, and our Father's Day dinner was another reminder of why we keep coming back. Even on a busy holiday, everything was well organized. We made reservations in advance, which I highly recommend, especially for occasions like Father's Day. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal without ever making us feel rushed. As always, the food was excellent, and we couldn't leave without ordering the Key lime pie for dessert. We've had it several times before, and it's consistently delicious. My only suggestion would be to expand the dessert offerings at this location. I've visited other Hillstone restaurants that serve an incredible Tres Leches dessert, and I'd love to see the Winter Park location add it to the menu someday. One of the things that makes this restaurant special is the setting. After dinner, we took a walk down to the dock and enjoyed the beautiful sunset. I recommend making a reservation as it can get pretty busy though they do have a bar if you're feeling lucky. The NY strip and the mashed potatoes were so delicious, and the jalapeño queso doesn't come melted but still delicious and full of flavor! The fries were a bit too overcooked for us so we didn't finish them. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating without feeling crowded. I was recently taken to Hillstone for administrative professional's day. Growing up in the area, I've always known Hillstone to be always top notch. I will advise to make a reservation as it gets super busy during lunchtime. This restaurant seems to be quite a hit for business meetings/corporate celebrations. We learned our lesson the previous visit. There is a small area for parking but nine times out of ten I am valeting as it fills up fast. We were seated promptly, and the staff was very attentive. My manager and I started off with the grilled artichokes. These are seasonal so, catch them while you can! Super flavorful and perfect light starter. I decided to go with Ding's Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Wow did this sandwich blow me away. Everything just came together so nicely. This sandwich features a buttermilk-fried chicken breast, Swiss cheese, mayo, tomato, and a kale slaw. On the menu, it had mentioned spicy, but to my surprise, it was just more of a light kick a bit of sweet and savory mix. Actually might have been the "cherry on top" for me to complete this sandwich. I chose to get fries as my side they are shoestring, not my favorite but you can also pick a couple other sides as well. Might give those a try next time. Overall, wonderful experience as always. First time trying Hillstone and the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. The restaurant sits right on the lake in Winter Park and the view really sets the tone for the whole experience. It has that perfect mix of upscale but still relaxed, making it a great spot for a date night or dinner with friends. The food was solid and well prepared. This is not the review I wanted to be writing for one of my favorite restaurants in Orlando, but this visit did not stand up to our many positive past experiences and I sincerely hope it was a one off. My husband and I were dining on Monday the day after valentines, so they were slammed and understandably the service was much slower than usual. We ordered spinach artichoke dip and rosemary focaccia to start, both of which were superb as always. For dinner my husband ordered the burger and fries and I ordered the filet medium. By the time they came we had been there nearly and hour and a quarter, despite not having drinks and ordering starters as soon as we sat. The waiter dropped them off and then went to take orders at a large and needy table behind us. As I am nursing I cut through my filet to check the temp and was shocked to find it decidedly rare, not medium. I sat waiting for our waiter to come back but he was occupied taking orders and did not glance our way. After about 10 minutes, as I was famished, we waved over another waitress passing by and she agreed to take the steak back. She took my plate and said they would bring me an all new one. We also asked if my husband's fries could be replaced as they arrived completely cold and dry. It was quite awhile before my filet returned, and I was brought back the same meat on a new plate. That is fine but I was a bit surprise as the way she worded it when she took it made it sound like she'd be bringing a fresh one. Due to being recooked it was a bit burnt on the exterior and dry on the interior but I was happy to have it back and began to eat it. A couple bites in I noticed a short hair on my fork. This is embarrassing to admit but I was hungry so I removed it and kept eating. The next bite also had a hair, so I cut again and sure enough the third bite had another one! My hair is extremely long and my husbands is extremely short, the hairs were definitely not our own. At that point it didn't feel sanitary to eat and we asked to speak to a manager. He offered to bring us a new filet, an extra starter of focaccia in lieu of replacement sides, and to not charge us for the filet. I appreciated the effort but to my shock the filet again came out quite rare. He watched me cut it and at my hesitation asked if I would prefer it medium well instead of medium. Honestly that might be what bothered me most about the night - him implying that it WAS medium when it was definitely rare. I said it was okay as at that point we had been there for two hours and we needed to get home to our babysitter, so I decided to just reheat it at home. Overall, while we appreciate that they were extremely busy, it was not the level of cleanliness, service, or taste that we have come to expect from hillstone. We probably won't return for a while and when we do we hope things will have settled back to prior stellar experiences. read more

I have passed by this restaurant a couple of times and decided to stop by one evening. Even with a reservation there was a little wait but all good. I started with the brussel sprouts which had flavor each bite and order the chicken for my entree intend to always get salmon so decided something different. I LOVE Hillstone! This is a great date night spot (recommended to make reservations for right before sundown so that you can see the sunset). There is a beautiful, small pier that you can walk outside onto. There's seating there as well for lounging. There's also seating by the walkway to the pier, and if I'm not mistaken, I think I've seen a firepit before, I'm not sure. But all in all, it is a beautiful restaurant. The servers are personable and are good at their jobs. The food?! The food is DELICIOUS. This time, I had more than my usual (knife and fork barbeque ribs that quite literally fall off the bone). My mom and I shared the Jalepeño Queso with tortillas and the Southern Style Brussel Sprouts with lemon aioli and reggiano. The queso isn't my thing but it was yummy, and the brussel sprouts? We had a table right against the window, and we were able to watch a beautiful sunset as we dined. We started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip, which was incredible. It was very creamy with a great cheese pull and big chunks of artichokes. I also loved that it comes with salsa and sour cream, so you can play around with different combos. They brought us out more chips when we ran out, which was great. I ordered the Jackrabbit to drink, which was refreshing and delicious. I ended up ordering another one since I liked it so much. I do wish they had an espresso martini on the menu. The Veggie Burger was great, but the patty did fall apart as I ate it. I have come to expect that with pretty much every veggie burger though, so it's not a big deal. The fries were very skinny and were yummy when topped with the house-made fry seasoning they gave me. We visited Hillstone on a Sunday around 6:20pm. We had a reservation, but we were early so we sat at the bar in the meantime to enjoy some drinks. We were showed to our table a little before our reservation time, and then we ordered promptly. The service here was excellent start to finish. I was super impressed with the entire crew here. The inside of the restaurant is also beautiful, with its open back wall and lake view. We started with the brussel sprouts which were cooked very nicely and topped with a citrus aioli. This was a simple and well balanced dish, but I think it would make a better side than starter. For mains, I got a special which was an ahi tuna ponzu, and my companion got the arctic char. The tuna ponzu was fantastic, but it was served with a raw tomato with some basil on top which just felt off with the flavor palette. The arctic char was tasty, but the bottom was over blackened. It was extremely bitter with the bottom, so that was mostly left on the plate. It was served with some fresh parsley on the side, which probably would've been a little more useful if it had been chopped. Both mains were served with what can only be called a mountainous side of coleslaw. The coleslaw was good, but there was just so much of it that to eat all of it would mean not tasting anything else on the plate just due to the amount of coleslaw. It felt like the items on the plate were not very intentional (including the garnishes I mentioned earlier). For dessert, we got the apple cobbler which was delicious. It could've used maybe a little more vanilla ice cream, but it was amazing. I'd definitely order that again. I'd be open to trying hillstone again, especially since I've heard great things about the steaks there. I was still impressed with the ahi tuna that I had, but I can say for certain that next time I'll be asking what the accompaniments are and seeing if I can sub out the coleslaw. read more

If I could give this place more stars, I would. I was waiting for a special occasion to visit this restaurant. My partner and I were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our 10th anniversary and several people told us this place was a wonderful spot to celebrate an anniversary. Of course it was pouring when we pulled in, but they have valet parking and the valet got me out of the car then let me take his umbrella into the restaurant. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The seater told us our server would be with us shortly but took our drink orders. I ordered the crisp martini and it was so delightful. When our server arrived, she suggested the spinach and artichoke dip. I was very impressed. It came with sour cream and salsa which threw me off, but I actually really enjoyed having other things to dip the chips in. While we were enjoying our appetizer, the weather improved and the sun was starting to set. Because this was our first visit, we asked the server if we could leave the table to go outside and take a photo, which is allowed. We were outside for maybe 10 minutes. When we returned to our table, the server came over with a frozen martini glass and transferred my drink into. Wow! I have never had something like this happen before. Literally so impressed. For dinner, I ordered the pan-asian noodle salad with barbecue pork. The portion was huge! It took me three days to eat at all. So good! The food is delicious. However they don't allow kids. Which honestly they should just make that their slogan. I would have respected it. Instead they wait for you to walk in and order. He said that he could hear enjoyment from my 4 year old (he was laughing) and that I should take Him out to the patio until he settles down. This wasn't a tantrum. This wasn't screaming. This was laughter. The same laughter (though drunken) that was being had at a close by table. I was made walk outside in between my main and dessert so my son would come back somber I suppose. What makes it worse is that I actually listened!!! Superica is next door. It's also delicious and they don't discriminate against families. If you are lucky enough to be seated in a window seat you'll get sweeping views of the water (imagine how gorgeous this is at golden hour and sunset) We were there to celebrate our 6th micro wedding anniversary and initially requested a table on the patio but the winter storm had other plans. They did accommodate us by making sure we did get a window seat which was really sweet of them. Staff: Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and checked in us just often enough but not *too much*. I nursed my martini a bit and when our server noticed my glass had thawed she brought a new chilled glass and switched them out. No prompting at all. The vibe: This is a Mid-Century Modern inspired steakhouse. It's moody. It's masculine. Items sexy in a sort of 21 century Mad Men kind of way. Perfect for a date night & would make an excellent first date if that's the vibe you are going for. But it is dark so he warmed. And for the fashion lovers-don't wait to take our outfit selfie there. We did this and it ended up being far too dark. It was quite loud as there are very few soft surfaces so be prepared. The Order: "Crisp Martini" (9/10): the house martini. Gin based. They add lime instead of orange & a bit of St. Germane and it was delicious. I will be trying to recreate this one at home "Hillstone Negroni" (5/10): my go to. Any time there is a special Negroni I like to try it. This could have been better. While the presentation was lovely, it wasn't mixed well and about half way through the flavors broke down. Once stirred it got better but I should t need to do that & don't know that I would order this again as a result. "Cheeseburger" (7/10): my husband initially ordered a steak but change his mind last min when he just got a craving for a burger. He ordered as is-no changes. He had no complaints other than it was comically tall and had to be squished to be eaten (see photo) making the juice run out all over the bottom bun. He said he would order again French Dip" (6/10): A go-to order of mine. I love a French dip. This was sadly a little underwhelming. It wasn't bad, but you couldn't taste the cheese at all & I kept checking to see if it was even there at all. The meet & dressing were well flavored though and the bread held up to the dressing which is not always the case. If I ordered this again I would asked for extra cheese. Good portion though. I ordered with a side of fries and they were very good. "Key Lime Pie" (10/10) : Another favorite of mine. This was excellent. I prefer my key lime pie to be very tangy with a lot of lime flavor & Custer based rather than whipped. That's how I make Mike and that exactly how they do theirs. It was delicious. The crust was thick and had a rich nutty flavor. It did not crumble. There wasn't *too much* whipped cream. This was perfection. We almost ordered another. I was a little disappointed that there was no recognition of us celebrating our anniversary. I go in for that kind of thing. Obviously they are by no means obligated to do anything and some people may prefer that but I like a little notice of it as there is so little occasion to celebrate anything these days. Not even a so much as a "happy anniversary". I'll give them credit that we had to change our reservation same day so that note may have gotten lost which I think is reasonable assumption. The staff were super nice and even took pictures of my bf and I when asked while we waited for our table to be ready. The margarita I got was delicious. We had another five star experience at Hillstone for lunch. Our reservation was at 1 PM (always make a reservation) and we were seated promptly. There were only a couple of tables open (bar was also full) at the time and the place was absolutely humming. My wife had the filet mignon and I had the fried snapper. My snapper was a generous portion and was cooked perfectly and quite tasty along with their unique and tasty version of tartar sauce (better). I substituted fries for the seasonal vegetable. The filet mignon was one of the best my wife has had in quite some time (as good as Eddie V's) and cooked perfectly at medium rare. The broccoli was also cooked perfectly and quite tasty. We arrived to a lovely ambiance despite how crowded it was on a Wednesday. The service was excellent as well. Appetizers were deviled eggs and jalapeño queso. Deviled eggs were a twist on traditional, a little on the sweet side and the filling did not actually take up the cavity of the egg. I see the direction they were going, however this was a miss. Queso was more stiff than I was expected and the palate landed smoother with this one. It offered balance and texture without pretentiousness. Entree I had a center cut 7oz that was cooked and seared perfectly. On a more critical note it could have had a more prominent pepper crusting. The protein was accompanied by potatoes calcannon and broccoli. The potatoes were a good attempt, but a miss for me. Teetering on borderline bland. The broccoli was entirely underwhelming and old. Clearly should have been thrown out as it had turned. My partner ordered an ahi tuna special with coleslaw and her meal and found a balance between the protein and the coleslaw that was complimentary to the palate. Desserts I ordered their interpretation of Apple Cobbler with walnuts. Not the best effort I have seen, but passable with a generous offering of walnuts. All in all the service was outstanding as well as the ambiance. The menu can use a little work. I always appreciate a small menu as the expectation is that what it is that you offer is excellence over quantity. I do not feel that the mark was entirely hit. I think our last visit was a one off. We went again for the first time since that lack luster experience and had a wonderful server and a wonderful experience start to finish. The candle at our table was lit, the food was perfect, the service was on point, and they didn't miss a beat. And because I'm nosey, I asked and the server told me that they never did get rid of the cornbread croutons on the house salad. read more

We came by for a quick weekday lunch date and while the food was good I'm not sure it's for me. Firstly, this place is beautifully maintained. I love the view of the water in the back and the overall classic decor. They also have an open kitchen so you can see the chefs cooking the food. Every server greeted us with a smile and was willing to help with anything we needed. The food came out quicker than I expected for this kind of restaurant but I was very happy since it was lunch time. Our roast beef was cooked perfectly in the French dip sandwich but the au jus was lacking flavor. I will say that my salad was tossed with just the right amount of dressing. Overall, I enjoyed my experience but if I came back for lunch it would likely only be for a business meeting. This is a very serious (and dare I say stuffy) restaurant where men have to take off their hats. We weren't offended but in my opinion that's a bit dated. They were also lacking diversity so based on the vibes this place isn't quite right for me. I will have to stop in for dinner to see if the vibe is different but wanted to share for those who like to be in a more relaxed environment. read more

Incredible restaurant! I didn't realize they take reservations, but when they told us it would be an hour and a half wait we ventured to the bar to hang out for a bit. Our server, really sweet, on-top-of-things gal told us we could at the bar once 3 chairs opened up and, low and behold, we were seated and devouring their delicious roasted artichoke hearts. THEY'RE SO GOOD! But, call in advance to make they're in season. Anyway, I only took one pic of our meal, but it's my boyfriend's fav so I saved him half They even added fresh au jus! Were there Monday night, 4-21, and they still had a 1 and a half hour wait! Go people! Hillstone absolutely delivered an incredible dining experience. It is perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. They were able to accommodate our larger party with a reservation. The food was beyond delicious. I have to give a special shoutout to the Emerald Kale and Chicken Salad, it was honestly one of the best salads I've ever had. The kale was crisp and fresh, perfectly balanced with great textures and great flavor. The drink menu had a great variety, and the appetizers were just as impressive. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Service was attentive without being overbearing, they always made sure our water cups were filled. This was my second time at Hillstone, I try to make it a point to bring friends and family who visit from out of town here because it's always such a pleasant experience.
