Will the police if you try..maybe...Karen. Can you take some out as leftovers...yes, but hard chance you'll not eat it it in one seating. Is it worth the hype?...no, it beats the hype and then some. Wife and I came for lunch and both ordered the salad and didn't say one word to each other. It was so good and looked so delicious the patron next to us at the bar asked and ordered the same thing. To wash it down I had their bloody Mary which is a no frills straight to point bloody Mary which I love them for and still think is best in Orlando. This is a staple here in Winter Park. It is on Lake Killarney and has a beautiful view of the lake from anywhere inside the restaurant. Just gorgeous. We come here often and extremely surprised I've never left a review. This is hands down the best filet we've ever had. It is always perfect! The crab cakes were a new off menu item and they were delicious. They were packed with real crab meat and little filler. Just wonderful! The Cole slaw they were served with was also delicious. When we come we sit at the bar because that is the best service in the entire place. Zach was a great bartender and Katie is always on point. The signature dishes that we have come to love have changed as of late. The mashed potatoes now have green onions and other greens. Hopefully they'll change as they continue to evolve their menu. Definitely a go to date night spot or out with friends! Great service every time. The servers are very attentive. I've tried multiple dishes from there from the salmon, to the burger, to the French dip, to the tar tar and everything has been delicious and beautifully plated. Love the drinks as well. I admit the food is good, but the reservation policy is ridiculous. My family and I have been loyal customers even before they changed their name to Hillstone (when they were Houston's). Wish they would bring back the prime rib and baked potato. Anyways, it was my nephews 21st birthday and of course I know they do not honor a party over 5, so I made 2 separate reservations of 4 and requested to be placed near each other or in the same vicinity. What did they do? They put both parties in 2 different sections when there were plenty of empty tables near each other. They need to change their reservation policy for larger families. My friend recommended this place so we decided to give it a try. Made a reservation online on their website. They have a huge parking lot and also have valet available. It's right next to the Trader Joe's shopping center. We were seated promptly as soon as we arrived and everyone was dressed nice. We got a beautiful view of the late. The lights are dimmed inside, and there is usually jazz music playing in the background. **Parking:** You can choose to valet or park in the parking lot for free. If it's busy, you may need to valet. However, we never have an issue finding parking. **Reservations:** Reservations are not accepted here. I don't mind this, as it's always been worth the wait. The food and environment make it worthwhile. Usually, there is about a 1-hour wait during busy times or on weekends; it could be a bit longer, so it's best to come earlier. On New Year's Eve, they do take reservations, which is lovely. I've been the past two years, and it's always a treat to have dinner here before ringing in the new year. The food is incredibly tasty! I have tried almost the entire menu, and everything is crafted well. My go-to dish is the Hawaiian ribeye! It's savory and sweet, melting in your mouth (I order it medium well). I recently visited Hillstone Restaurant Group, and while the location offers an incredible view and the service was excellent, the overall experience fell short of what I expect from a fine-dining restaurant -- especially for the price. The cocktails were honestly disappointing. A Moscow Mule was served in what felt like a cheap Dollar General-style glass, and the Old Fashioned came in the same type of basic glassware. On top of that, both drinks had regular machine ice. There was absolutely nothing "fancy" about the presentation -- except the bill. For a restaurant positioning itself as upscale, cocktail presentation matters, and this missed the mark completely. The food was okay, but nothing memorable or worth the premium pricing. This Hillstone didn't do anything to stand out from its peers, but the quality found at all restaurants is part of the appeal. If I had any notes about the kale salad, I'd say there were too many peanuts, not enough dressing, and I was dismayed to be charged for some extra Parmesan that they have brought as a complementary addition elsewhere. Also, for some reason they couldn't give me an entree salad without the chicken but gave me two side salads on one plate making the cost higher than an entree with the chicken cost subtracted. Nonetheless, Hillstone dates are always satisfying and these small issues don't take away from it being a worthy destination restaurant. The food was pretty strong. The ribs had a few good ones and a few overcooked/burnt ones that left a burnt sugar taste. Fries were ok, expected slightly better. Corn was good, something unique. The tuna tartar was some of the best tuna I've had in a while and the whole plate was well thought out with proportions of bread to tuna to avocado were perfect. More of a large appetizer than an entire portion but still fantastic. Service was decent, a bit dry and fake like but good enough. They were out of the French dip and didn't make us aware until a few minutes after we ordered. This could have been resolved with more of a service mindset than just asking for my replacement decision. We caught happy hour at the bar and it was packed. Obviously you can't make reservations for it and the weight was almost 30 minutes. We didn't want to sit down traditionally as it was just a friend and I waiting between our hair and nail appointments in the area. Once we were seated, the customer service was a little spotty as I can tell. They were focused on the regulars, but that's OK. It wasn't rude. It just wasn't very attentive and I had the flag over our bartender/server several times be at to order drinks, food, or even a refill of our water. We both have been here in the past for dinner and had quite a different experience so that just may have been a hiccup for happy hour or bar service. The atmosphere is nice more upscale than casual but really a perfect blend right in between. The food was pretty good but the reason I'm not giving the 5 stars is because it seems pretty expensive for what it was. We did enjoyed our meals but it wasn't the Wow effect we were expecting, when you charge $30 for a roasted chicken you kind of set your expectations pretty high. I think I have been to Hillstone / Houston's in a couple of different cities. Maybe NYC and Boston? I could be wrong. It's been a very long time since I went there, but I still remember their ribs. More on them later... I wish their beer list was longer but for a place like this it certainly isn't out of the norm. Their CAESAR SALAD grated Reggiano, cornbread croutons, eggless Caesar dressing to start is actually quite amazing. The cornbread croutons are soft and unique. The KNIFE & FORK BARBECUE RIBS served with fries and coleslaw are indeed just like I remember them to be. Having so much amazing BBQ in between some of the magic has been taken away for me so though they are just as good as I remember, I am going to be having something new on the next visit. The real reason to come here is the service. It was simply outstanding when I was here. Dinner date night at Hillstone! What to do on a Tuesday evening you might say?!? Well, earlier in the day I looked to make a reservation and got one for 8:00 p.m.! It was a Beautiful cooler evening in Orlando! We made it in just as Sunset was taking place that upon hearing our table wasn't just ready yet, we went to the back deck and watched the final minutes of golden hour! Upon returning, the hostess took us to our table and we were promptly asked for drinks and we obliged. The server, Daisy, was friendly and attentive. My date had the raspberry tequila drink which was quite tasty and I went with the crush which was refreshing and easy drinking! Now whenever this is in season you have to get the artichokes! Tonight these ones came out perfectly grilled and were absolutely a treat to have and start off with! For our mains my date got the salmon and I went with, after hearing its back, the epic double cut pork chop! All hail the king, Orlando's best pork chop has returned! Do you hear that Ravenous Pig? I mean that. Sincerely, as you haven't had it back on your menu mysteriously for several years! This fine establishment hasn't had on its menu either in a few years! Its prepared the same way with the same sides and is so good! Trust me, I don't always go looking for pork chops, but this one made an impression so many years ago and still lives up to it's fame! They have stepped up the dress code and behavior codes which is mostly a good thing. They no longer offer a baked potato and the Irish mashed potatoes are not so good. Your only option potato wise is really French fries. The fries are good but better options are needed. The prime rib sandwich should be taken off the menu it is flat out terrible... We went to Hillstone for a late lunch with two friends. The service was wonderful, the hostesses were nice and friendly and the waitress was superb. I had a question about the grilled chicken salad and the waitress asked the chef, chef said yes and they made it slightly different for me. It was absolutely delicious!!!. Everyone else in our party was happy, the other orders were a Pan Asian Noodle salad, a veggie burger, and a pan fried snapper. Parking was easy in their private lot. I was surprised at some of the outside changes to the restaurant. The area where they used to have a gazebo and flower or vegetable garden beds was gone and was just grass and the front of the restaurant was just painted black. The place is very relaxing and has a chill vibe to it. I love the low lighting especially on the outside landscape when walking by the lake. The staff were very friendly and our waitress was pleasant. Only thing I didn't like is we sat next to the waiters station and could hear their conversations... We started off with the Southern style Brussels Sprouts, AMAZING. I love Brussels sprouts and these were cooked to perfection and tastes amazing. We also had the seasonal Artichokes. Now I love artichokes a bit more than Brussels sprouts but these were just okay. The dipping sauce was nice. For our main course we had the Pan Fried Snapper, (which was my favorite of the evening) and we also got the Ahi Ponzu special. The tuna was good but I preferred the snapper all day. I've had the pleasure of dining at Hillstone Restaurant in Winter Park a couple of times recently, and I have to say, the sophisticated dinner party vibe wowed me. The sunken dining room has picture-perfect views of the lake behind. In fact, the gorgeous views can be enjoyed outside as there is a large firepit with Adirondack chairs, small intimate seating areas, and a dock with seats. It's the perfect spot to enjoy one of the best Aperol Spritzes I have ever had, their signature Grapefruit Aperol Spritz. The menu features classic dishes, such as Spinach and Artichoke Dip (the most simple and solid spin dip ever!) and a delicious shrimp cocktail. The Pan-Fried Snapper was excellent, light and airy while also perfectly browned. The Hawaiian, though, steals the show. I am not normally a fan of rib-eye but this dish is IT. Perfectly marinated and accompanied by delicious fries that come along with a special shaker of french fry seasoning. I think I may be addicted to that stuff. Oh, and get the key lime pie. The service is always smooth, professional, and friendly-- your drink will never go empty here. Sure, there were moments when the attentiveness felt a bit much, as you will have an entire service team, but honestly, it just made it seem more sophisticated. The only reason Hillstone doesn't get a perfect rating in my opinion is the lack of espresso martinis. It just goes with the vibe - it seems so strange not to make them! As for the prices, yes, they can lighten your wallet a bit, but I found the overall experience well worth it. If you're looking for a touch of luxury, a dash of Instagram-worthy ambiance/views, and a reason to treat yourself, Hillstone is the place to go. I usually give them a 4 to 5 starts. today was really disappointed. Bartenders unfriendly and short and if I walked in and those two were there I would stay. Very disappointing. While the food and setting are typically reliable, my most recent visit was overshadowed by an uncomfortable and frankly tacky interaction at the bar. A bartender attempted to take my check and tip before I was finished, reaching across the bar and asking me to move my arm -- despite the fact that I still had a full glass of wine and had not moved my check or cash tip to signal I was ready to close out. She was not ending her shift and was not the person who waited on me. Regardless of intent, this is not acceptable behavior in any restaurant, especially one that presents itself as polished and upscale. Good service should never feel intrusive. I rated this restaurant a 5 and I disagree with the 3.8 rating. I recall there being talk of some management/service issues during/post COVID time, but didn't experience them first hand. I assume the 3.8 has something to do with that. As someone who has grown up coming here I'm happy to report that Hillstone is back to their former glory. I went for lunch a few weeks ago and the atmosphere was as usual very intimate and effortlessly classy. Our server was amazing! She was knowledgeable, kind, and very professional. We have visited here twice in the last two years and every time we go, "why don't we come here more?!" They are just that good. The service is so friendly and welcoming, and they seat you quickly and make you feel special. There isn't a bad view in the house. The lake is spectacular and I love seeing the sunset.
