Was just ok! I took a thali with Paneer Masala & Chana Masala for $14.99 & didn't feel it worth it honestly. Iv had super yumm Paneer Masala dishes from other Himalayan Kitchen restaurants so maybe in comparison this fell short. Paneer pieces looked fresh though & rice was good. This is my favorite restaurant in old town Pasadena. It's a small place and you would never think that the food would be as good as it is! The outside is sort of plain and we never would have found it without yelp. I am so glad the b/f decided to look on yelp! The ratings are pretty accurate, except that this place deserves 5 stars from everyone. The environment is clean, the wait staff is friendly, bathrooms are clean, it isn't terribly expensive, and it is a very memorable experience. Parking is always a challenge in old town so i would never include that in my rating. It wouldn't be fair. I have been there twice in the last few months. I ordered the Lamb Naan which is so freakin' delicious! And the chutney they give you with it is to die for. On both visits I ordered the Bheda Sekuwa Thali which is basically a lamb skewer with sides of lentil soup, basmatic rice, regular naan bread, and salad. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it really does fill you up. Describing the tenderness of the lamb and the spices is not enough, you must go there! The b/f ordered the Himalayan Mixed Grill and you can tell them whether you want it really spicy or not. The b/f asked for it to be ultra spicy the first time and when the food came out still sizzling it made the whole restaurant cough. I think since then they have changed the options to just basic spiciness and not ultra spicy. They pissed off a lot of people that day. I overlooked all of that in my rating because the food is that good. More restaurants need to take a look at this one and take notes. This place should be on Colorado Blvd, but I'm kinda glad it's not. =) read more

This spot is perfect for a casual date night or for catching up with a friend. The bright and inviting decor combined with the lively but appropriately dimmed playlist makes for an engaging environment. Service was both quick and slow. We were able to place our order quickly but the wait for the food was a decent amount of time. Not unacceptably long, but be warned that perhaps this might not be the best spot to go if you're absolutely starving. We ordered the tan mahal beer, momo mixed dumplings, chicken korma, eggplant, onion naan, and garlic naan. The entrees were served with a heaping side of rice. In order, the beer was a light and complimentary drink for the meal. We both preferred the veg momo dumplings over the chicken ones as the chicken filling was a bit dry but still a tasty treat. The chicken korma was completely delicious - creamy but still packed a flavorful combo of onion and ginger. The garlic stole the show, though. You could taste the char on the eggplant but it wasn't overdone. We both wanted a second order! The naans were also extremely tasty. The onion naan is properly stuffed full with onion filling and very flavorful while the garlic naan is thinner and a bit better for dipping. the flavors of southern Asia are among my favorite, and Himalayan Cafe didn't let us down. and best of all, no sherpa was required to scale the mountains of food we consumed. started with some lightly fried chicken pakauda (also known as pakora) with a great tamarind chutney on the side. this was an appetizer? oh lawdy. ginormous portion size and packed with spicy flavor. my lamb roll with spices and mango chutney was comparable in size to an overstuffed burrito. plenty of spices again, and to be honest I could only eat about 60% of it before admitting defeat. but oh man, dat tender lamb, and the insane amount of onions packed in there....oh yeah. service was friendly and it's a small but fairly clean place. they have a buffet but the options for it looked like fairly standard Indian buffet stuff and we were happy to get something fresher. read more

I stopped in here looking to try something new; I was not disappointed. Himalaya Cafe has a nice laid back vibe with some calm oriental music playing in the background. It was a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle outside. I asked for a recommendation and the server gave me several options - I settled on a dish from Nepal, Chicken Sekurah. It came sizzling on a skillet, smelling great. Tons of flavor, tender, and plenty of food. I was disappointed at first with the lack of heat (ordered it spicy) but it crept up on me about halfway through, to my delight! I've been wanting to try this place for a while now and the buffet did not disappoint. It was pretty empty when we came in for lunch around noon on a Saturday. The selection was okay for $9.99 for a buffet. The chicken tikka masala was flavorful and I really enjoyed the goat dish. This place is probably not my favorite out of all the buffets that are similar but the service was good and they're located in a great spot in Pasadena. I would probably come back again when I feel like stuffing my face with some curry. read more
