BIG fan of this little place! They are one of the few restaurants that have survived the "curse of the Windsor Town Green" and they seem to have done very well for themselves. Lunch specials are a deal here, the place is new, took the place of the Vietnamese joint about 3 months ago. The food is delicious, prices are decent the only thing lacking is the service is haphazard. We have been here twice and both times there were holes in the service. Their Lamb Momo is very good, full of flavor with great texture and balance. On other trips we had the chicken tandoori again decent flavor with great balance of seasoning. All in all this is a place we would return to , but hopefully they will get the service aspect ironed out, and be sure and check your check, we had errors on our both times. read more

Time for an update, Himalayan is a favorite of ours. About 6 months ago Himalayan changed hands and new owners appeared. As we have always enjoyed the food here we were kinda bummed. Have no fear, after several visits the past few months Himalayan is still putting out the same quality favorites like Chicken Tikka, Samosa Chaat, Tandoori etc and has also added some additional specials that were not previously offered. Restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable. Not your average hole in the wall. A small but nice patio is available and is a good option on a warm evening. Wish the new owners well! read more

Ordered thru YELP. Got Tikka masala and garlic cilantro Naan. Came to about $20. First impression was "geez 20 bucks for entree and naan?!" ... Totally worth it. There's enough food for 2 or 3 people. Flavor was on point, I selected for the medium spicy but could have gone to spicy since I like the heat. Been quite a few times for lunch. I seriously suggest the lunch special as it comes with a small soup, salad, naan bread, your choice of curry, and white or brown rice for a good value. Went here for lunch today with some girlfriends...one of which is from India and had just been recently to the Himalayans; so we were very interested in seeing what her thoughts were. I have to say, the food was good. And fairly authentic. Although we all agreed that our "spicy" could have been spicier. It could have been that they only had one person on the floor to serve, although with only 5 tables being occupied that doesn't seem like it should be a problem, but we did have to wait not only for our entree order to be taken (after our appetizers were gone) and he wasn't very quick to clear after we were done with our meal. That said, we didn't eat everything on the plate, the servings are generous with rice (brown or white at your request) and two large pieces of Naan bread; along with, in this case, the express lunch menu item so maybe it's a cultural thing, not to take the food away before its gone...IDK... Anyway let's start at the beginning... We were greeted and seated promptly, water was brought around. While we were perusing the menu we ordered a bottle of wine, which was brought and opened; at the same time we ordered appetizers...Vegetable Pakora ($4.99) and Samosa Chaat ($5.99). Both were plenty to share between the 4 of us; I think it was a split decision of which was tastier although both were very tasty. Before our appetizers came a bowl of delicious lentil soup was brought and enjoyed by all. Going around the table we had A Mixed Vegetable Curry ($8.99), Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, and Lamb Masala (all $9.99 on the Express Lunch Menu) all served, as I said, with your choice of rice, Naan bread and a small, undressed salad of lettuce, sliced carrot and cucumber. The only downsides again were the spicy factor (not hot enough for us and we ordered spicy, so if you like spicy, order extra spicy), the clearing of plates and a rather mundane, Kendall-Jackson/Kenwood centric wine list. But one the upside, every wine is sold by the glass. The food, while lacking heat, was very tasty...full of interesting flavors. LindySez: I would go back to try some of the other items on the menu. We go super basic on our first visit to establish the baseline for comparison....chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Simply put...awesome. We will be back, soon and many times!! Now, for what really really impressed me...possibly the hardest working staff around. Sunday night and only at about 1/3 to 1/2 capacity and in looking around at one point, it didn't appear anyone needed attention. I'd take a five minute breather if I worked here, but nope. I LOVE this place. The food is so delicious, and the service is great. The lentil soup is very tasty. We ordered chicken tikka masala and chicken tandori, along with rice and buttered naan. Firstly, they have the BEST tikka masala sauce. I ordered it medium to light heat, and it was perfect. The chicken tandori was all white meat cooked to perfection with a wonderful spice rub. Ladies Night Out with the girls and we chose this wonderful restaurant. Not being a huge food adventurist, I was holding my breath to see if I would really like it and it exceeded my expectations! I couldn't even begin to pronounce what I ate, but it was super fresh tasting and delicious. The lentil soup started off the evening and it was very tasty. I had the chicken salad (since it looked safe to a weenie like me with picky taste buds) and it had chunks of tomatoes and onions in it was a great dressing and the chicken was plentiful and tender. I loved it! I tasted one of the gals chicken tikka masala over rice and that was flavorful: I tried a fabulous cold salad with fruit, garbanzo beans, cilantro (I think) and yogurt that was really yummy...a chaat (?) or something like that. Appetizer samosas were great too - I think that is what they were called. The garlic cheese naan was great (like the quesadillas I love so much).... all was delicious! I was pretty excited to go here, because I saw in the window that they had some vegan options on special -- always a good sign! I ended up getting a Tofu Matar curry, which I figured should be pretty awesome (Matar is one of my favorite curries) -- the food tasted fresh, but it wasn't very flavorful, which was a shame. My in-laws got a lamb dish (they are decidedly not vegan!), which they really enjoyed. The in-laws labeled it wonderful, but my husband and I were very "meh" about it. I'll go back again and try another vegan dish to see whether it was just an off night or if the vegan options could use a step up. I'm hoping it was just an off night. Pricing seemed reasonable (not great, not overpriced). Portions were on the smaller side, but one curry with a couple of sides was plenty for the hubs and I. We were given a surprise, vegan-friendly soup, which was good (not great -- but hey, it was a nice gesture). The inside ambiance is nice enough to hint at the Himalayas, but not completely absorbing and fairly casual. They also have outdoor seating, which might be nice on Thursday evenings when the park has outdoor music going. The restaurant is right on an adorable main street, perfect for strolling -- and not far down the block there's a vegan-friendly yogurt shop! Earlier: I have done lunch there at 11am and its pretty much empty and gets busy at 12 noon. Downers: There is one unfortunately, Its a small space so when it gets busy it gets kind of loud, almost to loud. Depends on the crowd I guess. "I would say they are the healthier minded of Indian cuisine rather then heavy butters, fats and yogurt etc" But the do not skimp on flavor, moisture or perfection! Over all: The food is really flavorful. They offer levels of heat I proffer medium. To start we ordered chicken Samosa @ $6.99 and it was very good. My wife ordered Shrimp Curry @ $15.99 and I had Chicken Tikka Masala @ $13.99. Both with brown rice and one Garlic Basil Naan @ $2.99. Couldn't resist Kingfisher beer 3 @ $11.97 served in a cold glass. The 3rd one (shared refill) was even served in a fresh cold glass! The service was outstanding as was our dinner. Went there for lunch today. Food was good. The Dal was delicious. We had chicken Pakora for starters, it was delicious as well as the 3 sauces that came with it. My friend had chicken Samosa, she loved it. My hubby had Lamb Tandoori and was impressed. I had a potato and asparagus curry which was great too. The Gulab Jamun at the end was not the best we ever had but was not that bad either. The service was slow but friendly, my friend ordered extra from the sauces we had and these came after we had finished the most of our meal. The naan bread was tasty too. This place has pretty good, affordable lunch specials. I have the Chicken Keema Masala, which was ground chicken and peas in a mild curry sauce. The lunch special came with soup, salad, rice, and naan, so it was a pretty good deal for only about $12. The service here was OK, not spectacular. We got our food in plenty of time, but they did not really check up on us afterwards until we got the check. This place is located in a prime spot in Downtown Windsor, and it was definitely busy during lunchtime, but fortunately we did not have to wait.
