This sushi place was really great all around! I came in on a Friday afternoon and was immediately seated. The roll options initially seemed limited to me, but they executed them very well. Every roll we had was delicious and gone within seconds! I was not disappointed! I particularly liked the ample natural light inside. Some sushi places are dimly lit, so that was a nice change up from what I'm used to. I plan to come back again and try more rolls and nigiri!

The sushi is delicious but they lack the good stuff like uni, torro, and organic loose leaf green tea. Service is descent and sometimes pretty quick when they are less busy. This is my go-to place for sushi in Reno.

Have come here a few times now and even gotten to go because I crave this delicious sushi!! Husband and I love this place and is a go to for our family when they visit. The service is amazing and the place is no nonsense. They put all their energy into delicious food and the bang for your buck can't be beat even if you don't do the all you can eat route. Even typing this I am now getting hungry and want to make my way back. If you love sushi at all come here. The sashimi is amazing but also the ceviche roll is seriously a show stopper.

I had a delicious lunch here with my hubby. We ordered the AYCE and the lunch price is so fair and reasonable. Seems like they've added new things to the menu since we were there last. Everything was fantastic. The flavor combinations are so masterfully crafted. Items are very fresh tasting as well. We had the Bonsai roll, Dragon roll, some seaweed salad, miso soup, Yakiton, seared tuna, upside down shrimp and our most favorite the fantastic unagi on the nigiri menu. We also had dessert of strawberry ice cream and the tempura banana with ice cream. Great way to end the meal. We have always considered Hinoki the best place to get AYCE sushi in Reno and it was again today. All of the servers and sushi chefs are so nice. The service is great. We will keep coming back and highly recommend.

I ordered via uber eats . 2 entrees and 1 appetizer and I also ordered Donald Duck . The two rolls are the Godzilla and King Kong and then appetizer was the yakiton . The yakiton is one yakiton cut in half in the cup , very yummy , just thought it would have been a larger portion . The Godzilla was really good . The King Kong was okay , the fish was a little dry . The Donald Duck came in two pieces the first piece was alright , it was missing a little bit of taste . The second piece had something weird on the salmon so I didn't eat that piece of it .

Really good experience at Hinoki today. I've been there many times, but the nigiri today were much better than previous visits. I really enjoyed them. As always, the staffs are friendly and helpful, and the service was great!

Got in here early-ish on Friday to try to beat the rush, but the rush came shortly after. This was a leisurely meal for us so we weren't pressed for time, but the rolls did take some time to get to us. We sat at the sushi bar and could tell the sushi prep was very busy making our rolls. BUT the fish is very fresh hear, of good quality and some of the best rolls in town as far as being inventive. It's a main staple for us in town and we try to get here about once a year and we're never disappointed

Overall, a really solid experience and great food. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and well done. Big fan of the Mountain Roll in particular, easily the highlight of the meal. That said, the service was very slow. I understand it was a busy Friday lunch rush, which I can appreciate, but a few items we ordered from the sashimi and roll section never made it to our table. It was confusing because we weren't sure if the food was still coming or had been missed entirely, and there wasn't much communication around it. Food quality was excellent, but the service issues knocked it down a bit. Still a place I'd come back to, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.

Back to Hinoki and yet another 5-star experience! The sushi comes fast and is not overly sauced. Staff are attentive and ensure that you have a great experience. My favorite roll is the Mountain long roll. The fish tastes good and the mussels are not overpowered by a mayo. If you're near the mall and have a craving, this is definitely a solid spot to check out.

Out of town, visiting for the first time and gave this a try because we wanted AYCE. Came in Saturday 730. Service was fast, you order by marking a paper of what you want. we ate more of the nigiri. Fish was fresh and liked that there wasn't so much rice. Also, FYI entree items is not part of the AYCE option. I guess I'm only giving it a 4 star because of the choices they had for my 5 yrs old who doesn't eat sushi and was going to charge me $23.99. So I had to order a separate à la carte (Gyoza) for him.

    Lacey V.

Food was really good, our second server was very nice. The only thing bad I would say is that they forgot our last two rolls and the service wasn't very good. We weren't checked on and usually had to flag down a waitress.

Tried the ayce lunch option, and enjoyed all the nigiri, handrolls and rolls we tried. The ayce sushi comes in smaller than normal portions which I actually like because it's not too much rice like some ayce spots. Fish was good quality. Service was friendly, though the food prep was a bit slow. Would definitely recommend for an affordable large lunch option.

Came for a weekday dinner and was seated right away. The fish was fresh, and the appetizers were fantastic! I really appreciated that the rolls were smaller in size, making it easy to try a wider variety of unique rolls with room for all the nigiri pieces too. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere felt cozy. It's family friendly and there's plenty of parking nearby, which makes it convenient. Easily one of the best AYCE sushi spots in Reno! My go to whenever I'm in town.

11a - 4p Tell ‘em “ebike Kevin” sent you

What exactly is included in AYCE? Or what isn't? Entrees? Appetizers?

AYCE includes appetizers, nigiri, handrolls, longrolls, dessert. Entrees, poke bowls, and sashimi are separate and not AYCE.

Is it unlimited mussels in all you can eat?

Yes, appetizers are unlimited as well.

Is this all you can eat, what are the ayce rules ,and is it good for groups for 6-8 people? Is there outdoor or indoor seating?

Yes all you can eat but call if they can accommodate your group

What time does the all you can eat lunch go to?

    11:00am till 3pm I believe

Is the menu the same for lunch and dinner?

I believe that the menu is the same however there are a few items added that are dinner only. I hope this helps.

Is there a sushi boat? Have limited time for lunch unfortunately

There is no Sushi Boat, but very fast service!

Do you get free sushi on your birthday?

Sorry haven't heard of any Bday club.

Have you had the ceviche roll at konpia how does it compare?

I think Kanpai has a better ceviche roll but Hinoki has a better menu, atmosphere and customer service by far not to mention it's a little cheaper than Kanpai as well

Sat at the bar and was greeted with one of our chef's creation...great start. The menu didn't feel very varied--it was mostly the same types of rolls (crab mostly) with different sauces. That may just be personal preference, since I tend to like shrimp rolls (either cooked or uncooked). When we arrived, we were seated in the far right corner. There were other tables nearby, but because we were a large group, it took a while for anyone to take our drink orders. We even had two separate servers come by to ask for drinks. Once we ordered sushi, that's where things really went downhill. We were split across the tables (four people per table), and although we placed our orders at the same time, half of our group didn't receive their sushi until about 30 minutes after the other part of us. It felt like the order process wasn't managed well. Customer service was also inconsistent. We had to keep asking for items we never received, like refills, and we didn't get straws. Even though the restaurant was busy, I've been to other sushi places on busy nights and never experienced service this slow. The only thing I truly liked was the appetizers. The beef teriyaki was the best thing I had--really tasty. I'd recommend that, but only if you have a lot of time to spare, because the wait for food and follow-ups was a struggle. When we tried to order dessert, it took so long for someone to come back that a few people ended up giving up and not getting dessert at all. Overall, customer service took far too long, and the sushi was just OK--not especially flavorful or memorable for me. The rolls tasted pretty similar, and I don't think I'll be returning.

We were seated quickly. Now that can be attributed to the fact that we were early for dinner. We opted for a tabled, but there were plenty of seats available at the sushi bar. We only waited for a few minutes before the first wave of fish was delivered. Throughout dinner, we never had to wait long for the sushi to be delivered. The atmosphere was decent. It felt like it was more of a storefront than a traditional restaurant. But, it was a storefront and I don't care about that. I base my rating on freshness, service and cleanliness of the store. One thing that surprised me was the Kani (crab). I ordered it wondering if it would be real crab or imitation. It was real! I was happy and surprised. I ate my fill. Actually, I ate more than my fill. Enjoyed it completely. My sushi coma was justified. Soooo, I'm starting off with four stars. I may add another, after dining here for dinner as opposed…read moreto lunch. That being said, I am an Ohana regular, so I cheated on them today with O'A. So let's get the cons out of the way first. My son and I sat at the bar, and on the big screen against the wall, CNN FAKE NEWS was playing. Personally irritating, and I don't think they should be showing news shows from any side at a restaurant. We were in during lunch hours, and towards the end of our visit we were the last party there. That being said, clearing out our empty plates and getting refills wasn't very expeditious. I sat probably for about 15 minutes with an empty soda cup. I would understand if it was busy and at night. Disappointingly, lunch has its own separate menu, and you can't order dinner rolls for the lunch price, like you can at Ohana, Hinoki and other places I've been to and frequented. Now that, that's out of the way let's get to the rest of the review. I'm guessing the owners, we're super nice. We were greeted right as we walked in the door and chose our seats. Victor was our sushi chef. Great guy, and turns out some great sushi. The next time I go I will be sure to sit with him, but the other two Cooks were nice also. The entire restaurant, especially the bar area was spotless! I can tell they all take pride in what they do. My sin and I ordered probably 65% of the lunch menu. The quail egg shooters, whcih we ordered about a dozen total were SUPER good, and served in a modified Oriental soup "spoon" instead of a shot glass. Sort of awkward to eat, but doable and tasty. My personal favorite (lunch) roll was the "Crazy Dream" roll. SO many different flavor profiles. They had unique takes on some of the nigiri and appetizers, like the 'butterfly' and the tempura Jalapeno opposed to other sushi joints. So all in all, it was good enough for me to go back and give the dinner menu a try. Well slap my a** and call me Betty! Haha I have been eating all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi in Reno…read morefor over 10 years now and this is the first place I've been able to actually taste how good the fish actually is. To be clear, this is not an AYCE sushi restaurant, and there's other offerings besides sushi including ramen, salad, steaks, and various teriyaki plates. Apparently the food is hand selected by the owner, and helped prepared by the Japanese wife in the kitchen. From what I understand, the line cooks follow traditional Japanese ways including only being able to make a sushi roll after being a line cook for 5 years. As for the food itself, these are the things I've tried: -Maguro (tuna) sashimi: absolutely delightful -Sake (salmon) nigri: really good -Unagi (Eel) sashimi: my favorite nigri, the unagi was so tender it was falling apart. Best I've ever had. -Kazo sake: the combination of all the textures and flavors made this one of my top choices. Think of eating it like a deviled egg, if you're able to fit the whole thing in your mouth, you can taste all the flavors at once. If not, it's still tasty and you can taste the pieces individually! -Mt Rose roll: the textures and flavors were really good! -Fire Ocean roll: Absolutely delicious, and spicy! -Spicy garlic edamame: I wasn't impressed. No crisp on the garlic. The garlic, sweet chili sauce, and edamame felt like they were all cooked separately and combined on the serving plate. The garlic seemed like it was from a jar, and the sauce from the bottle. -Tempura banana with strawberry mochi: we devoured this, the chocolate sauce made the combination of flavors pleasant. I wish the tempura banana had a bit more going on - more crisp and less batter. -Wasabi: the wasabi actually tastes real and not like horseradish!!! It blends into the soy sauce beautifully and it's creamy. Drinks -Sapporo with the Junmai Ginjo sake: light and crisp, really yummy -Honey Citron tea- delightful Service While our service was generally pleasant, we did end up going at least 20 mins at one point without any word from our server while waiting on food. We didn't mind, and it was nice to not be rushed, but some others may want to feel more taken care of. My only slight complaint is that I didn't keep my chopsticks after dinner for our dessert, but we just ended up sharing the one pair we had. It would have been nice to be reminded to keep my chopsticks or to be offered another pair. Ambiance The space is relatively large and Miyabi expanded years ago to accommodate a larger dining area. The only slightly confusing part - I wish it was more clear which door you enter from. The only indicator is the Open sign on the left hand set of doors. All in all, I really enjoy and appreciate good quality food, and while you are paying the price for it here, it's justified. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Sadly there were too many flies landing on my food and baby, I don't want to give them another try. The only good item I've found on their menu is the Mt Rose roll and edamame (for the black salt). The lobster roll was also a rip off; it's covered in sauce so you can't even taste the lobster.

Saba was okay. The best thing I ate was the Unagi, but you are limited to one order per diner (doesn't sound like AYCE to me). The restaurant - actually the wife of the owner - tried to charge us dinner prices even though we arrived 40 minutes before lunch was over. It took nearly 15 minutes before the bill was corrected (one would think that the owner's wife would have had that authority). Instead we had to endure a 'who's on first' Indian comedy routine (but it wasn't funny). And the men's restroom was out of service during our visit.
