I've been wanting to try the coffee here after seeing a few people rave about it. After finally having a chance to stop by and grab some coffee, I can say it is worth the hype! I tried the Ice Loves Coco and the Ice Mint Drip and both were great! Strong enough with the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. I'd say the Ice Loves Coco was the more popular drink and was also my favorite between the two. My only wish was that there was a location closer to me in SF! I ordered the sweet and creamy Iced Mint Drip drip along with the Mc Lovin, an egg, turkey bacon (pretty tasty for a healthier alternative to pork), and cheese mc muffin. I've seen many people from the Hayward/SJ area post their Hippies Brew and what better way to get a caffeine fix after hiking around Lake Chabot? It's only about 10-15 minutes away. It's a newest spot in a construction zone, parking isn't too bad off of C street or neighboring streets, once you see a spot I suggest just taking it and walking to the spot. It was a bit confusing when I first go there because I saw a kiosk so I assumed I had to press it but usually a worker is taking orders and that's where you pay (I blame the confusion due to being tired from my 12 mile hike). You can't miss it because there are always a ton of people outside waiting for their coffee or catching up. I was then greeted by a friendly worker who helped me make decisions on what to get. I've only seen Iced coffees posted and it was a little cold so I was contemplating on getting a hot or cold drink and the worker recommended it iced for your first visit. I went with the infamous Rick Ro$$ and I was very happy with it. It was their dark roast cold brew with cocoa powder, cinna vanilla, sweet cream topped with cinna suga (cinnamon sugar). I was surprised that it wasn't as sweet as I was expecting it to be (I don't like my drinks too sweet, I def think Dutch Bros and Philz sweet & creamy drinks are overly sweet). I drank it on my drive home and it gave me the nice caffeine boost and it tasted really good. I wanted a little snack to go with it and yo momma's cinnamon toast was perfect! It came with 2 toasted cinnamon bread pieces. And especially easy to eat while driving. Some other honorable mentions is the Sorta Kinda Latte, which is similar to the Rick Ro$$ but it's with a medium as opposed to dark roast and instead of cocoa it has brown sugar. I have been dying to go to Hippy's Brew in Union City but once I heard that there was an "express" in Downtown Hayward, I just had to try it. Two times before I visited this location today, I had a friend pick up a hot Rick Ro$$ and an Iced White Iverson and I was hooked. Also very caffeinated for the rest of the day. I had to get my car serviced in the morning and was told it was going to take 3 hours (yikes) so I ended up walking to downtown to see this place in-person for the first time and man, was I not disappointed. But before that, let me just say that it was HARD to spot this place and if you're driving through downtown, you're going to miss it. For those who need cross streets, it's on the corner of C St and Mission inside the new Hayward library at the corner. There is plenty of parking on the adjacent streets and there are parking lots nearby that are never full so don't worry about that! Customer service wise, this location has that down as you are warmly greeted by the person at the front and are not rushed through your order. Food wise, their breakfast sandwich, the McLovin is my favorite hands down with its spicy (not really) chipotle mayo. I've also heard their freakin French toast is really good as well. Drink wise, I had enough caffeine to get me through my two jobs and still write this review! Definitely very sugary drinks but you can taste every flavor that they advertise and they have some really creative flavors Price wise, this might turn some people away as it is a bit more $1-3 more than your usual Starbucks/Peet's order but let me tell you, it's worth trying! First time at this location and loved it! This time I got the Ice Loves Coco: Coco powder, cold brew, coconut sweet cream, topped with toasted coconut. Are you the kid who throws out all the Almond Joy out of your Halloween candy? I hear ya! I love coconut, I love chocolate, but I can't really get it together for that Almond Joy taste. I love the location of this small and local coffee shop/quick breakfast spot. Came this morning to grab some takeout for breakfast and decided to go with the Freakin French Toast. If you are craving for something sweet and somewhat heavy to start your day, Hippie's Brew is the way to go! The Freakin French Toast is a sandwich, split in 2, stuffed with egg, cheese, bacon and sausage. Just add a drizzle of syrup and it's like you're having French toast and an egg sandwich at the same time. I cannot say this enough but it is deliciously perfect!! I've seen many social media posts on HB and I'm glad I got to check it out for myself. This was just a taste test... I'll have to come back to try the whole menu over time! This coffee biz is attached to the library entrance. How perfect there's a garage right behind it and I was able to find parking no problem. Otherwise I'm usually weary of downtown areas. Friendly service - the cashier apologized several times for the long wait, which I didn't think was even bad. Good to see a steady stream of customers supporting this small business. Also a mini plus for the cute environment-friendly paper straws. I got the in-love-w.-da-coco and it was good! Creamy + the right level of sweetness and toasted coconut. I could do without the coconut flakes toward the bottom of my drink but it's fine, they probably added to the flavor. My coworker got the yoncé and had quite the excited reaction. I think HB is way better and lives up to the hype more than Philz. The coffee made me more awake than normally but didn't keep me up at night, nor did it make me jittery. This review is only for the drinks since I haven't tried any of the food yet, but try RICK RO$$- that's all you need. It's so addicting and delicious! The Kinda Sorta Latte is pretty much the same, but has brown sugar instead of cocoa powder- also delicious if you prefer that. My sister and I love coming by here to grab a cup of coffee. Be aware that the prices here are about $1-2 more than your usual Starbucks/Peet's, but it's so worth it. We've tried RICK RO$$, Kinda Sorta Latte, The Yonce, I'm In Love with Da Coco & White Iverson (so basically all of the coffee flavors), but RICK RO$$ is hands down both of our favorites. They do sell their drinks by the 1/2 gallon in store. Full gallons are also sold, but that must be purchased ahead of time on their website to pick up in store. They sell branded merchandise from hats/beanies, to t-shirts/hoodies, to stickers as well. If it's your first time coming here, it will most likely be difficult for you to find since there's no storefront sign. You can just park and walk on over- parking was pretty easy to find the multiple times I've gone. The shop is connected to the Hayward Library, but there is a register outside of the shop where you place your order. After placing your order, once your name is called- you will step inside to grab your drink. Overall- I'm so glad we came across this coffee shop. Their drinks tend to be on the sweeter side but this almost tasted like a coffee x hot chocolate to me. Yonce - hot dark roast or cold brew, caramel with a "touch" of white mocha, heavy cream with a caramel drizzle This was definitely on the sweeter side of things due to the amount of caramel included in the drink. Located right next to Hayward Library, there is always parking available in the parking garage, and it's free! It's right in front of the newly built park which is a nice scenery if you ask me to have a good brunch, or even a picnic if you wanted to at the park - as long as it's not the winter seasons because duh, it gets cold. There is not that much space for you to walk in the shop itself, and availability is basically on display because your girl was trying to get an ube donut and they were out. I got the Blonde coffee. The coffee was pretty good. A little on the sweet side of things, but you can definitely taste the coffee in it as well. I also ordered the Freakin' French Toast with sausage and turkey bacon. I have to say, it does not look that big, but it was definitely fulfilling. I ate it for brunch, and went over to the theater and watched a movie and came out was still super stuffed. The first time I got the coco loco (amazing), second time I got the Rick Ross and today I tried the gangsta all of them were so good, I have to keep coming back to try the other ones! For my coffee, I got "The Yonce", which is Caramel sauce, cold brew, touch of white chocolate, cream, topped with caramel drizzle on top of iced. It was so sweet and delicious. I could not stop myself after the first sip. It's one of the best coffees I have had in a long time. For my food, I got the Freakin French Toast, which consisted of Eggs, cheddar cheese, turkey bacon all nested in our cinnamon swirl bread dipped in our golden good batter. It was so good! Nice spot to grab a coffee or boba! My friend and I came here to hang out and catch up (socially distanced and outdoors). There is some sparse seating outdoor but most people just take their drinks to go. The line and ordering location are outdoor, and you only need to go indoor briefly to pick up your drink. I gave this place 4 stars for good service and good vibes, and took off 1 star because I think the drink itself was just so-so; perhaps it was just not my style. I had the 40WATAH which is black tea with cinnamon vanilla cream. It was super creamy which made for an interesting texture, but I felt it was too heavy after drinking half of it. I would definitely consider coming back to try other drinks and enjoy the positive vibes. While my friend and I were here, there was actually an incident where a car hit an employee's parked car and then ran off. The employee whose car got hit came out and was clearly and understandably devastated about the situation. Other staff and customers came to comfort her and give the police information. It seems like their menu is now condensed (not sure if that is due to Covid or this location), and I only saw three food options available: Freakin French Toast, McLoving Muffin, C Me Rollin.. It pains me to admit there are no coffee spots in my area that go the extra mile to also offer delicious sweet and savory breakfast items that are fresh, not pre made or frozen and that are substantial. Pray the Roys coffee cult following doesn't come for me. Parking is easy! Their right next to a big lot. Their location is also in the heart of downtown Hayward and IN the library?? The recently remodeled two story library? Yup, that one. But don't worry, I don't think any Joe's are watching You here! It's closed right now Also it's next to the farmers market so you could grab a cup and head over to the market on a Sat morning or grab a cup and then swing by the grocery store for your weekly run. Great spot for a casual sunday brunch! We came here with a few friends around 11:30 am on a Sunday and the line was around the building. After about 20 min of waiting we got to the front and saw they had quite a limited menu (understandably so). We ended up getting the Rick Ross, Freakin' French toast and McLovin with turkey bacon. My favorite was definitely the McLovin, especially the chipotle aioli, very flavorful and melded the samdwich together well. The Rick Ross was delicious (I considered it more like a dessert), especially with how creamy and sweet it was.
