Grabbed some takeout tonight for an easy weeknight dinner. Ordered 3 rolls (west coast, hiro crunch, and sweet chili crab), the asian short ribs, crab rangoon, and a miso soup. I enjoyed the sushi, however I wasn't really impressed with the short ribs. They were pretty dry and dense- maybe they just don't travel very well. Went with my brother here for happy hour since my usual spot is Downtown and wanted to try this location. The ambiance here was very warm and inviting, and the space itself was very comfortable. However, one of the servers seemed like she didn't enjoy being there at all which sort of threw off the vibe a bit. We were sat at our table and a manager started us off which was a bit unusual as our server didn't show up until 3 minutes after. The food was phenomenal so no complaints there. Well the food was as good as usual, we sat at the bar and the noise level was fine. The only issue we had tonight was our server, Ed. First of all he spent a good 4 minutes chatting it up with a buddy sitting next to us and did not even acknowledge us, and the place was hopping. Sunday happy hour and he was aloof. As our plates piled up, he did not clear them, and I had to ask for my salad after 3 dishes showed up, he is watching tv instead of helping customers. Went to Hiro 88 after a movie date with my fiancé, and we felt a little bad since we got there super late into the night, but the staff reassured us that they still had a few hours before closing. I love coming here with family and friends or even alone. The staff is friendly and funny. The mules are amazing and the sushi is the best!

I should have known when it was easy to get a reservation the day before Mother's Day what we were in for when there were understandably, no other reservations available for good sushi. The restaurant was pretty empty when we got there. Service was very slow and unknowledgeable. Drinks took way too long. My daughter ordered a Mule but they don't use ginger beer so it was vodka soda with sweet ginger syrup and quite bad. They did take it away and didn't charge for it. The only thing we had I would recommend was the Squid Salad. That is all I would order again if I had to go back. The rest of the food; gyoza, spicy edamame, 2 sushi rolls and the fried tofu were bland and uninteresting. Went to hero last night for happy hour ordered four rolls total. 2 of the rolls were mine, and they were not well put together. They were falling apart as I was holding them. One of the rules was a spicy California roll was not spicy at all. I told the waiter he got the manager, and the manager told me that it was a spicy California roll, but it wasn't spicy at all. It was a normal California roll and she was wrong. She goes and says do you want any spicy mayo cause that's what we put in the spicy California roll me as I respond in aw of such a silly response from her when it cost two dollars for them to make a new roll she gives me a side of spicy mayo, the size of my palm anyway so I decided to eat my entire California roll that is supposed to be spicy that I got charged for it to be spicy and it wasn't. I've come to this hero location at least 50 times and that's not an exaggeration unfortunately i've never seen the manager that was working last night before I have met the other manager, he's a nice guy, but this lady did not seem to care about satisfying her customers or going the second mile read more

It's been about 19 months since I visited this Hiro 88 in Millard. Seating was easy to find during a prime evening hour. Service was very responsive from drink orders, entrees, and several checks during the meal. I ordered a different dish I haven't had before which was pretty tasty, the garlic straw beef. The salad that came with the meal was excellent, took the advice of our server and had them mix the 2 salad dressings together. This was a great recommendation and probably the most enjoyed dish throughout the evening. I asked if the chef would modify this beef dish if I ordered it spicier with the hot red peppers stir fried into the dish? If this would happen, I would gladly change the Yelp score to a 5 and in my opinion, would greatly improve this dish from it's current state. Great location and easy to find. Plenty of parking since it's in a mutual shopping area. They have 1 designated "to-go" parking spot up front as well as several handicap spots. There's usually always a warm welcome and a cheerful face. Typically I get take-out orders but have dined in, in the past. I'll say that the food and attention to detail is give or take depending on who packaged the order. I will also say that the same mistake happened to me 3x in a row, which was a little frustrating (an item was forgotten). However, the staff is always very helpful and quick to resolve the issue. Again, comparing take-away to dining in isn't always fair when it comes to the quality of the food. But I will say that the majority of the time the food is great! Impromptu date night. We wanted to get some quality sushi so we headed up to HIRO. We started off with crab rangoons, edamame, and a couple of sake bombs. We then got 5 sushi rolls to share. We just made it in time for happy hour. The food was so good. You could taste each individual ingredient. Everything was super fresh and of high quality. Hiro 88 has become a staple for my visits back home to Omaha. I first discovered the downtown location and was thrilled when a west O location opened up! We usually start with the crab Rangoon. They are of the most perfect consistency and flavor...not too light but not too heavy. And full of creamy crispy flavor! Plus the dipping sauce is thick and delicious! My usual is the Mongolian Beef with jalapeño and cilantro added, but I decided to branch out tonight and try the crispy garlic beef...I'm so glad I did! If you like garlic and thick sauces...this is the dish for you! The flavor blast was incredible with a perfect light fry on the beef! I can't wait to try it again next time! My mom got the Yin's chicken and my dad ordered the chicken fried rice. They both loved their meals, as usual. We also all started with the hot and sour soup which is a delightful start to a meal in the cold of Omaha winter! On top of all that, they have a great beer, wine, and cocktail menu, excellent service, and up-scale decor and surroundings. All-in-all, it is one of my favorite places to eat dinner in Omaha and I suspect it will remain a staple of my home visits for long into the future! read more

ordered on doordash and had no option to select sauce. after placing my order i gave the store a quick call requesting they just include one or two eel sauce and spicy mayo. girl told me no, i needed to order it in the app. i told her well i can't order it in the app. she handed me over to her manager wade, who was awful. had the same convo with him except he was more rude, and then when i offered to give my card info over the phone for the $4 he couldn't simply comp for a $220 order, he told me no again. cut me off, was very rude in tone and entirely unhelpful. will definitely never be back over such awful service and treatment over a simple request that costs them pennies. somehow they could afford to send me my food in a tote bag and send 80 million chopsticks and soy sauces but no spicy mayo and eel sauce! now that would be mayhem. would give 0 stars if i could, never had such awful service at the one downtown. rice was dry and very sticky, barely any sauce on my rolls, and fish was very low quality. firecracker roll tasted like the smell of the fish area at the zoo. read more

First visit to Hiro 88 was surprisingly great. I found my new favorite sushi (West Coast) and our server was awesome; he did a good job and managing the bar and making sure we were taken care of plus other servers constantly refilled waters and checked on us as needed (I felt bad drinking a lot of water). We shared some Crab Rangoon and Makimono Rolls. The Bacon Jalepeño Rangoon was tasty but were not different from a standard Crab Rangoon. For our main meal we chose 4 Rolls: Makimono Rolls: Las Vegas, West Coast, Crazy Horse, and Sweet Chili Crab. The Eel Sauce is the best I've had in town (sorry, Blue!) and it goes perfectly with the Las Vegas and West Coast Rolls. The Sweet Chili Crab Rolls have some extra flavor with fresh jalapeños & Crazy Horse are topped with Masago if you are looking for something new, a first for us! Went here on back to back weeks, for dinner and lunch. Great selection of rolls from your basic California roll to more of their house specialties like Hiro Special & Wasabi Stinger. The place is tucked in the plaza next to other establishments, which can make parking challenging. This spot has a modern vibe and trendy like their Old Market place. The bar area have multiple screens (for the sports fans). Happy hour is one of the best times to have a great sampling of their rolls. We ordered the crab rangoon, squid salad, and sweet potato fries. Those three all came out in exactly three minutes. Fries were not hot so obviously everything is just sitting. 50 damn dollars pre tip and it was awful. Service sucked so no point in hunting down someone to tell them. This was by far the worst hiro experience I've ever had I usually go to the location off Maple and it's always 10/10 my spicy edamame was so dry and under cooked it was like eating sticks of chalk I usually order that once a week, the server was nice she was able to take it off my order with the managers help. My Las Vegas and west coast sushi rolls, were falling apart on the plate and only half coated with the fried pieces. I told my server and she just laughed about it, and walked away. "I will check on your order right away and give you an update." Then, bring your manager to the customer if there is a further delay. I love starting my meal after everyone else is finished. My wife's sushi plate came after two hours...LONG after everyone else finished. The Mongolian beef? Meh, at best. I went to the bar to get my drink that never came. We won't be back. The food is good but I was very disappointed to learn that they do not have an option to pick up food and have it delivered to your car. Our family has been very good about enforcing social distancing and we pick up all our groceries and takeout without entering the business. So I was shocked when I was told I had to go in doors and pick up my food in person. Given that all other restaurants that I have picked up from offer this option including blue if you want sushi I was just taken a back. Maybe Im missing something but it was enough to turn me off and I will not be doing pick up again. I was pretty excited to be trying the new THIRD location of this 88 chain very close to their grand opening! I know a lot of careful consideration is put into choosing locations for restaurants, and I think they did a good job picking this niche of the Millard neighborhood. The restaurant is located in the Hyvee shopping center across from Millard West High. As I live downtown, I frequent the Hiro88 downtown Jackson Street location the most but used to go out to the Maple location a lot as well before the downtown one opened. They've always been a favorite of mine for their happy hour and reverse happy hours, as you can get a great deal on sushi by dining at these times. I have to admit it's been a very long time since I came in for lunch so I didn't remember what any of the lunch specials were here, so we came in on a Thursday at 11 o'clock (when they open for lunch) to dine. Both my friend and I decided to do the $16 sushi lunch which includes a California roll and five pieces of nigiri. We very much enjoyed our meal and experience there, and the waitstaff was awesome. They weren't busy since it was the beginning of the lunch hour so I feel like we got extra attention and care. In the future, I would like to see more diversity on the lunch special menu for sushi. There are only two options for sushi for lunch and they rank at $16 and $25. That's a bit steep for lunch for the portions so I'd like to see maybe a choice of 2-rolls combo for select rolls with soup or salad for somewhere around $11, similar to Blue Sushi's lunch menu. Overall this is a great addition to the 88 family and it's awesome that this area of Omaha will now have the same deliciousness I experience in my neighborhood downtown! read more

The West Coast Roll is absolutely DELECTABLE. A little pricey in some parts, but the portions are huge.

The teriyaki beef was fried beyond recognition and served in a pool of oil so deep I feared Daniel Plainview would show up at any minute and lay claim to it. The shrimp and veggie tempura had absolutely no seasoning (nor did the dipping broth). The breading was as thick as what you'd find on a county fair corn dog and hadn't cooked through all the way on most of the pieces I tried to eat, and the sweet potatoes and potatoes were raw in the middle. Total amateur hour at premium prices. There is simply no reason to ever go here again with all the other options available in town. read more

We frequently order take out during reverse happy hour on Fridays/Saturdays, about 2x a month. My husband called and ordered reverse happy hour on Friday Feb 14th around 10:15pm as usual and when he picked up his food, he noticed the prices on the receipt were full price, not happy hour prices. When he asked about this, they told him they weren't honoring happy hour prices because it was Valentine's Day. First of all, it's 10:15pm on Valentine's Day, not even dinner time. Second of all, they failed to mention on the phone that they weren't doing reverse happy hour, nor was there any information posted on their website. I sent a private message to their management, but did not receive a response back. This is quite upsetting since we were regular customers. It seems like they are just being greedy and deceitful to customers. No thanks. Also, their rolls are no longer great quality - often the pieces of the roll fall apart when you pick them up, not rolled properly. Hiro 88 is okay sushi, maybe more like a 3.5. I think it's about average for Omaha standards and is not much different than Blue. The best part about Hiro is that they have cheaper prices and very open happy hours for most of their locations, which makes sushi fairly affordable. The service and atmosphere were both well done. The rolls we ordered from the happy hour menu were fine. Most had a fried coating (tempura) and ate a bit dry. My favorite was the Spicy 2 in 1 and the Hiro Special. Overall, we got a fair number of rolls for about $40 (6 rolls) and some were decent, others not so much. The nigiri was okay. For West Omaha, Hiro 88 is a fine happy hour option and similar to Blue. Neither are as good as Yoshitomo or Umami. read more
