Quite a lot of different options on the menu for food to choose from. Not too long of a wait for takeouts. Usually orders 20mins, sometimes a bit faster and sometimes a bit slower. Good prices and decent amount. Not authentic Japanese but tasty and satisfying sushi cravings. I've been coming to this place for many years, and the prices were always reasonable. Recently, though, I feel that the prices no longer match the quality of the restaurant. The interior feels and looks somewhat dirty, and I won't even mention the kitchen area. Because of this, we often opt for takeout now. I have been to Hiro Sushi many times since meeting my bf. We always get takeout. So I can't comment on the service, but seriously, I'm really here to comment on the food!! Generally, take-out takes about 15-20 minutes from the time I call to when it's ready. We have ordered many things from the menu, the Assorted Sashimi is always good, although the ebi I received was a little sad. My favorite is the panda roll. Rolls are big and filling and I've enjoyed everything that I have ordered from their menu. Have to say that all of their special rolls are really special. Can't go wrong with any of them. Don't judge a book by its cover - from the outside, it doesn't seem to have a storefront (you have to go inside a small, dingy shopping center). You can enter through the shopping center or through the parking lot in the back. This is not a fancy place and best for solo eaters or in a group of less than 4 people. I was surprised to find such great sushi at this unassuming place, but the portions were generous, and the price was pretty inexpensive. I started out with the tuna hand roll / cone for $2.50, which was simple and delicious. Just 2-3 pieces of tuna, rice and wrapped in seaweed. I got the Deluxe Sushi Combination for $12.95 which had a 5-piece roll, 3 pieces of nigiri (salmon, white tuna, and something else I didn't eat), and 2 pieces of salmon sashimi and 2 pieces of tuna sashimi. The sashimi pieces were so large they could have easily been two pieces. The roll had tuna, salmon, crab-meat cucumber and topped with smoked salmon - it was the Hiro House Roll. The fish was really fresh and melted in my mouth. I would have preferred the sashimi to be sliced thinner since it was a bit awkward to eat, but I'm not complaining - it just meant more food & fish for me. If I'm ever back in Port Coquitlam, I'd definitely come back. read more

I stumbled on it by accident when I needed a parking spot for a few minutes one day when there was a film crew in town. I have been picking up combo B for my husband every week since. My 81 year old neighbour swears their California rolls are the best. My husband is smacking his lips as he eats his sushi and I write this review. Anyone who comments on the service needs to look in the mirror - I find everyone working there very welcoming and appreciative of my business. First time I have to use my phone's GPS to find this sushi joint in Port Coquitlam. It is in the same address & phone number but on the door it has marked "New Hiro Sushi", my guess would be under new ownership. This place is not an ideal restaurant for fancy dating, but is definitely okay for singles and friends eat out. The price is much lower than Richmond & Vancouver with the same portion. Service is alright and food is good especially the deep fried stuff. There are lots of free parking in the mall and 1 hour free on the street. It is a very unique community and quite a few different ethnic eatery around. My favourite part is after the meal you can actually walk to the neignbour Dairy Queen and have a sweet ice-cream deal for dessert. read more

This has been one of our go-to sushi places. Fish has been fresh and portions generous. Service has always been lacking but generally the food made up for it. The last few visits I'm finding the quality going down a bit...fish not as fresh?. Not sure if there's new owners or what just not as good as usual. I won't give up on them yet but one more bad visit and we'll need to think twice. Our other go-to spot is Sushi California on North Road. It's superior to Hiro in all aspects but super busy and terrible parking. Hoping Hiro will be able to step it up next visit. read more

Fun to watch the bussle. This place is super easy to go to if you work in any of the Bentalls because it's in the underground mall/tunnel. So convenience totally gets it a bonus star, and is why I've eaten there once or twice a week for the past month. Literally all I can eat are the vegetable only rolls without gluten and edamame, both of which I would say are good enough, especially considering I pick them up prepackaged. Even going later in the afternoon to miss the rush or going before the freshness is good. Prices are average to slightly above average - but hey I'll pay since I don't need to go outside and get my hair wet, a lift an escalator and I'm there! I arrived in time for a massive queue there today, but they pump people through fast and I didn't need to wait an age like I was afraid of. Bonus: when your order is takeaway they put in one of those little plastic cups for your soy sauce! No one has done that for me before, no one! I had recently ordered take out from Hiro Sushi, I was pleasantly surprise how fresh the sushi was and the flavors were very nice. I am so happy to see that they clean there fish very nicely so there isn't extra crap in your rolls or sashimi. The décor is nothing special but decent. I love their chicken or beef teriyaki bento box - only $6.70 and comes with sushi, chicken or beef teriyaki, and a few pieces of california roll. The only item worth mention is that the salmon and tuna that comes with their sushi or sashimi is very thick. I had sushi here when I first moved into the area. My first impression was maybe I should turn around and leave. The kitchen wasn't pleasing to the eyes. Especially when the computer is two meters away from it. The food was mediocre. I ordered three rolls California roll, chopped scallop roll, and a tuna roll. It just wasn't fresh tasting. The restaurant itself is nothing special as far as the seating and decor goes, but I absolutely LOVE their deep fried dynamite roll, which includes a dollop of cream cheese. Often I just call ahead and order that specifically as a snack to pickup while I'm out walking the dog. The rest of the sushi is generally of good quality as well. That said, the fish on the nigiri has occasionally seemed a little dry. Overall, it's a very good and affordable local sushi shop with some unique twists on conventional sushi ideas. YUM! Every Friday it's Hiro sushi time and they never disappoint! I LOVE the Panda Roll - yam tempura, asparagus, cukes rolled up and then an avocado on top, You cant beat that! Lots of specialty rolls that are really great and of course you cannot go wrong with the California rolls, nigiri sushi, tempura and teriyaki. I find that there nigiri sushi is larger fish than at other places I've been to and that's one of the reasons we keep returning. I have my sister and friends hooked on this great sushi joint too. They do not know how to pack their food at all. The sauce from one of the dishes completely leaked into the boxes of sushi that they put at the bottom of the bag. Soggy sushi is not good sushi, waste of money. The yakisoba is generous but they gave me 0 sauce and more than enough for another person that ordered the same thing. Their spicy rolls have 0 sauce or spiciness either, to the point where I question if they gave me the spicy version at all, this applies to two different rolls I ordered. 0k so I've been going here for years. I enjoy their sushi most the time. Major complain SUPER CHEAP WITH SOYA SAUCE!!!! I mean seriously it's a condiment seriously!!!
