My husband and I walked down the street from our hotel to have a late breakfast at Hither Coffee & Goods, because the website and other Yelp reviews made it seem like a casual breakfast joint with the right vibes that we were looking for--fresh breakfast options and a local coffee. We only visited Hither once while in Ashland (only because I wanted to give some other places a shot since I am not sure when I'll be back in Ashland), but I thought about Hither every morning during our stay. Haha! I had a vanilla latte with oat milk. According to the counterperson, they have regular milk, oat milk, and sesame milk in an effort to promote sustainability. My hot latte and the husband's iced coffee were both served in small plastic juice glasses. I chose the Avocado Tartine in my personal effort to be "healthier." Oh man, the avocado was so fresh and perfectly seasoned! The husband went with a heartier Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich, and he shared a couple pieces of bacon with me that had fallen out of the robust sammy. The bacon was crispy and delicious! Ashland local here! Ashland locals are known to keep our card close to our chests, but I cannot help but share how amazing Hither is! Most people forget about them because they are all the way on the Southern end of the downtown strip- but Hither is not one to forget! There is literally nothing on Hither's menu that is not phenomenal. All of their baked goods are made from scratch and melt in your mouth. A local favorite is anything that contains their biscuits. My favorite is the biscuit sandwich with their bacon and spicy aioli. It is true heaven in your mouth! As for drinks, I urge you to try the matcha cloud! The orange coconut cream on top is life changing! There is cute indoor seating for the colder weather, but also ample outdoor patio space if you visit during the warmer months. On a road trip through Oregon, we were pleasantly surprised by this gem! We came around 11:45am on a Thursday and the place was not crowded at all. They have a TON of outdoor seating, but plenty of places inside as well. I got the grilled cheese with the fried egg. So good! It came with a side salad almost and I was very grateful for that. There is a lot of outdoor seating and we made ourselves comfortable, then ordered snacks and drinks. The cream-filled powdered donut was a hit, the chocolate chip cookie was tasty but a bit dry. When you see Wendy has returned twice to the same place within a few days' span, you know this place has impressed. The first day started with indulging in a fancy brunch meal, a rarity in my life these days. But in Ashland, frankly you'd be a fool not to make time for breakfast. This town is a brekkie heaven. Our order was called The Monster Dish Combo... probably enough to serve 3. This includes a beautiful, light and fluffy Dutch Baby, with a delicate lemony flavor. This comes with a small carafe of maple syrup. The Dutch Baby was the star of the show. Wish they would offer it as a solo item. They did not at the time of our visit. But this was not all. Gently cooked, fluffy scrambled eggs and several slices of good Bacon (and normally sausage, but they were out) were somehow piled on the same plate. But wait! There were 3 nice sized chunks of fried chicken (breast) too, prepared with a delicate, flakey breading, lightly sweetened, spiced with a sprinkling of red pepper, but not spicy. Last but not least, they found room to adorn the plate with a light salad made from local greens including peppery arugula, with parmesan. Nice touch. This combo is not for the weak hearted. Bring a friend, and anticipate still having to bag some to go home, unless you have consciously saved up for the eating frenzy you will have to invoke. Great drip coffee with free refills. Puff brand from Portland. The bathroom is somewhere inside. Not sure where they hid it, because indoor is one tiny room with maybe 6 tables to accommodate 12 people, plus the counter for ordering, plus a full view of the fast paced activity in the kitchen. The remainder of the dining is outdoors, your choice of a brick patio, open deck, or a deck under the trees. It's pleasant, as long as the weather cooperates and the predictable smoke from summer forest fires don't ruin the air. In spite of its informal ambiance, the cloth napkins, real tableware (no plastic here) takes your experience up a notch, closer to "classy". Order at the counter, but your food will be delivered to your table. Navar served and checked on us frequently. Excellent service!By the way, there are happy chefs in that kitchen! Impressive. Our second visit, it was their grilled cheese tartine with fried egg, and herbed, fluffy egg on toast that won my heart. Throw in a side of their delicious a side of bacon, and some of those great, freshly baked cookies (oatmeal or chocolate chip!) and a piping hot mug of their hair-curling dark roast coffee. We have found nothing to complain about here. Their other baked goods look pretty tempting. This place was recommended to us by the salon across the street. They said it has a coffee house vibe but really great food--a little more expensive but worth it. And they were right. We could hang out for a few hours and work then grab some food. I had the fried chicken sandwhich. It is crispy, moist, and hot with a sweet and spicy sauce. Also, instead of lettuce, it has a hardy green... I think it was chard. The one downfall is that it was super messy to eat, and the bread fell apart. It became a fork and knife sandwhich--oh well. Could use quite a few improvements. Specialty coffees are not so special. There are strange combinations; chocolate and orange peel? Everything, and I mean everything, is overpriced. Small biscuit breakfast sandwich (which has odd flavor combinations and the biscuit was over baked) had no additional sides was $17. There would be no complaints from me if the food quality matched the price. Unfortunately, this was not the case and I can truthfully say your money is best spent elsewhere; maybe try a double whopper with cheese meal from Burger King for $12 that will actually fill you up and save you some money. read more

There's a small retail section as you walk in, kitchen to the right, and some seating to the left (as well as outside). The retail items were extremely well curated and high quality. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and offered menus. This place is more of a quick service restaurant feel (place order at counter, they bring food and bus) but you can tell the staff are professionals. Hither never disappoints! Every time my foodie friend from Portland comes to town, the only MUST GO place is Hither. We both got the herbed eggs- chef's kiss! The service is kind, and the place is so cute! If we adventured out to other food options, I am confident they would also be delicious, but we can't venture out from the delicious herbed eggs on focaccia. I've eaten brunch 3 times now. First time was in the summer. There were flies everywhere inside the restaurant. The kitchen is open so you can see everything, there were flies all over the food. Pretty gross. Fast forward to winter, it's cold inside. People leave the front door open and then you get a gust of chilly air. So I rate the atmosphere slightly low. The lattes are served in a glass cup. Not a mug, a few sips later it's luke warm. Please use thick mugs. There's only one GF option for bread, hippie bread. I love how full of nuts and seeds it is but taste like water. Please consider adding salt or something. Best eggs in town. So fluffy and the yolk flavor is very rich. Salad is perfection. So simple yet so many restaurants fail at a good salad. The seasoning on top of the salad and eggs is incredibly delicious and versatile. Kids eggs came covered in fancy shaved parmesan cheese that my 4 year-old didn't like, his younger sibling also agreed "like it" (meaning no like it).
