We came here on a Friday night with a 6:00pm reservation for seven people. We were excited based on the positive reviews and beautiful decor and the options available. Who doesn't love omakase and yakiniku? Anyway, the overall experience was lackluster. Service was soooooo slow and the food was just mediocre. Most of us opted for the $88 menu which included six pieces of sushi and a few cuts of beef + a miso soup. Two of us got the $68 menu that didn't have the sushi pieces. The sushi was not bad but not amazing. But I appreciated having this option. The miso soup was really flavorful and seafoody, which was good. The bbq meats were all just ok and it literally came at snails pace. Those who didn't order the $88 set didn't get the sushi so had to wait a long long long time for the bbq meats. The best meat of course was the wagyu but because everything came so slow, it really made our experience really bad. I appreciated that they cooked everything for us and gave us basically two tables, one for cooking the food and one for just eating at the table since we had a child and wanted the heated grill to be away from him. They gave us tea as well but it was not refilled. Water wasn't refilled either. Our chopsticks kept dropping on the floor and we took matters into our own hands and went around the tables to get new chopsticks. Overall, I feel like they sort of tried to accommodate us but they also didn't check up on us. It was really disappointing how lackluster everything was, especially the slow service since the restaurant wasn't even half full. Sad to say but I wouldn't recommend and won't be back.

Love this place! We came for a birthday and they brought us tiramisu to celebrate. It was two of us. We each ordered the sushi Omakase and then got a third Omakase of the steak and sushi and shared. It was all delicious and the perfect amount of food. The meat was some of the best I have ever had (though warning the pieces are small). Highly recommend! Can't wait to come back.

First omakase experience so take my review with a grain of salt. The pricing was extremely fair and the quality was good. I got the omakase and Japanese bbq set. The fish was fresh and was the perfect temperature. There was also a significant amount of meat ranging from beef short rib to pork jowl (The meat pictured is the portion for 3 people). It was all cooked perfectly and the host was very attentive to make sure that nothing was burnt. The marshmallow dessert was very unique. It had an extremely silky texture but was not too sweet and not overwhelming. It was actually pretty refreshing. I would certainly come back to this place for a quick dinner. Our host told us that their busy hours are 6-8PM and their busiest day is Saturday.

Was influenced by all the IG Reels and TikToks that featured this mouth-watering sushi + BBQ spot and had to check it out! Sushi and steak are my bf's top 2 foods so this has easily become one of our favorite spots. We came a couple of Saturdays ago, and were sat at the first private booth upon entering. Love the privacy and the isolation from other diners. I went with the Omakase ($88) since I wanted more sushi than meat, and my bf went with the Sushi & Yakiniku combo ($88) since he wanted more meat than sushi. Clearly we still wanted to try both, and this was the perfect medium for us. The yakiniku comes with a bunch of sides (salad, kimchi, pickled radish, etc.) and we were so pleasantly surprised when we were asked if we wanted refills. Free unlimited sides y'all! And they are all so refreshing and delicious. I was also surprised to find that I really liked the monkfish liver (ankimo). It was so much tastier than it sounds. The sushi was extremely fresh and fantastic. That last bite of the toro-uni (I think it was) was *chef's kiss*. Bf loved his grilled meats. I tried a few pieces and it took a lot of self-control to not take his entire dinner. A couple things that were a bit underwhelming were the Yuzu drink and the cheesecake dessert. I'm not a fan of dessert anyway, and only ate some because it came with the set. Definitely wouldn't go out of my way for that, but this can be overlooked. I'd return for the main experience for sure.

Hiyake omakase aka gyu ichiro on bowery was honestly terrible. My coworkers stumbled upon their post about $49 AYCE japanese bbq and sushi and was intrigued. To further entice customers to come, they offer free lobsters for those who share their restaurant links on wechat. We made reservations on father's day for a party of 15. They seated us at different tables, but they were fairly close to each other so that was fine. There is a 2 hour limit for AYCE and it is completely server-free to order. There is an ipad at every table and you can pick whatever you want and submit it to the kitchen. Even though it was fathers day, it was not too busy within the restaurant. We started looking through the menu via the ipad and to our demise, the options were scarce. The beef options include about 8 different types of cuts and there were only a couple of items per section. We decided to order one of each to see which cut of meat we would like best. The order was placed and the first round of items came out nice and quick. We obviously wanted the free lobsters too, so we posted their link on out wechats. To our disappointment, they made our entire party of 15 post on wechat and later told us there were no more lobsters left. Instead, we had to settle for raw oysters. The oysters were not good at all. It was fishy and had a lot of dirt in the oysters. When we placed our order for the 2nd and 3rd rounds, this is where things started to spiral way down hill. About half of the order we placed never came and the sushi we ordered took way too long to come. Most of their sashimi were not fresh- they were fishy! It takes the workers a while to change your grills and to get the orders out. You would assume that the service would be way quicker being that we order our own meals via the ipad. Orders were either mixed up or forgotten. Our meals after tax and tip came out to be about $70 per person. Save your money and go to gyu kaku instead. They have premium meats, more food selections, and better customer for a cheaper price!!!

Enjoyed a delicious dinner at this incredibly ambient setting. It was a weekday night early so had no trouble getting a table. Our waiter ended up grilling all the food for us which he said they sometimes do when not too busy. Talk about service! First bite was a Monkfish Liver that was quite yummy, followed by four delicious pieces of sushi - my favorites were the salmon and toro. Next they brought out some miso soup and Japanese salad, a welcome dish given the cold evening. Then to our surprise he place a huge wood box on the table stuffed with lobster, beef, pineapple, pork cheek, and other yummy bites for grilling. Everything was super good. The restaurant setting is really amazing - booths are semi-private rooms so great for privacy. Everything is very sleek - very polished setting. Service was fantastic. I highly recommend.

Pretty disappointed that it wasn't as good as it could potentially be. It's a cool concept but it lacks quality greatly. We love sushi and was going to just do that but good thing we decided omakase and yakiniku. The akino was marinated well and tasted good. The miso soup was also good. It had a nice smokey flavor. The 4 pieces of sushi came out after. All 4 of the sushi had a weird slimey texture and the rice was fairly moist. It didn't taste that fresh either. I didn't feel well the rest of the night. The meats were a bit better. The server cooked our meats for us and was attentive to our needs. The skirt steak was oddly more buttery than the other marbled cut meats. The pork was delicious. The lobster wasn't too bad. The garlic butter made it good. No shade, but the pineapple tasted more fresh than the sushi. The dessert was runny. I don't even know what it was supposed to be. In summary, I don't think it's worth it really. I've have better omakase for this price or less. Maybe the yakiniku is a better choice.

Hiyake is not a typical Omakase place, unlike other places in the r city they offers more than just sushi Omakase but also offers Japanese style BBQ. You could sit on the chef counter if you choose to only have Omakase, if you want BBQ they have private booth with grill. Both Omakase and combo are $88 pretty affordable price for the amount of food they are offering. We had the combo because I want to try their bbq as well. It came with miso soup, monkfish liver app. Some other small garnish dishes. And four pieces of sushi and the box of meat in a chest. There are very good amount of food so you don't leave hungry. The BBQ comes with pork cheek, shirk steak, short ribs, chunk flap tails, half lobster and some veggie. Meat are really fresh when they come out. The Omakase only have four pieces for a taste but hey are very large pieces and thick cut of fish very generous portion. We came on a weekday evening so it was pretty empty. We had one waiter for ourselves who grilled the entire meal for us. Great service.

I stopped by here the other night, the food was really good. I got the Omakase/Japanese BBQ combo, It had 4 pieces of Sushi, Various pieces of meat and vegetables for the Bbq, Lobster and Pudding with Matcha powder on it. The Sushi melted in your mouth, the meat was tender, the pudding with Matcha was a really tasty dessert. The service was a little slow at times, but overall the experience was a winner. Will go to again if I am in the area.

What a way to start my birthday! Hiyake Omakase was my first Japanese bbq experience and I really enjoyed it! What we got: Sushi & Yakiniku We chose to get the sushi with yakiniku option which included monkfish liver, pickled jalapeños, miso soup, salad(which was very delicious!) 4 chef's choice omakase pieces, meat and seafood for grilling, and a marshmallow pudding for dessert! We enjoyed every single part of the combination! They also have this in-house plum sauce and seasoning, which elevated each bite. Besides the food, our waiter Sharon was very welcoming and asked us how we like the meat cooked, which she cooked to perfection!

$48 adults $28 child - but if your child's height is below 110cm it's free!!!! I always wanted to try when it opened and now it is changed to a buffet from omakase ! The BBQ meat was actually very good I was surprised! I have been to all the bbq/hotpot stores in Chinatown and Korean buffet BBQ. Gyu Ichiro - The meat was very good quality for the price! For BBQ Toro beef and house cut & rib was the highlight we ordered again and again. For sushi - hamachi was so good, the rest was decent. They have Takoyaki which was good and next time we wanted to try seafood pancakes too! For a picky person to actually like the buffet meat is rare. The only BBQ buffet I haven't tried is wagyu beef in Ktown. The server was very patient & attentive and took a pic of us with lots of patience too! My daughter very much enjoyed the eel & sushi & house cut beef.

Combination of omakase and bbq?! Sign me up. The interior is super cute with lots of booths for seating and they also have a counter area in the front. We did the combination one for both omakase and bbq. When the servers brought out the sushi they didn't really explain the fish and set it down. For one of the appetizers that came with the omakase meal it was literally takoyaki hahaha. They also cooked the meats for us but forgot to give us dipping sauce and I felt like the meat was not seasoned at all and also become a bit too chewy. Overall they said they were still new so things were still under works. Dessert was strawberry mochi. The service was good though because they kept coming by to see if we needed anything.

When I first came here for their soft opening. At the time their quality for the fish was not that good. If I wrote a review then it would have been . Their bbq is okay nothing special the dessert was a hard rice cake. Their combo with sushi is okay. Disappointing. But I came back with two different times to try again the omakase. Both times the omakase the fish quality was a lot different and fresher. For this reason they are a lot better. When they first started they did not have enough customers so the fish was around longer. But now that it's busier the fish is fresher when they have to get more shipments.

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and found the restaurant moderately crowded. We were greeted promptly and seated upon entry. I found the space comfortable and relaxed. Our waiter was polite and attentive. We ordered the corn bread as an appetizer. I prefer sweet cornbread versus jalapeño, so it wasn't my thing. However, my cousin is the opposite and she really enjoyed it. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, greens, and biscuit. I didn't care for the greens, but the biscuit and pulled pork was excellent. My sister had the ribs, greens, and dirty rice. She didn't like any of her food. She said the ribs had a lot of gristle. There was very little meat on the bone. I tasted the rice and agreed with her assessment. It wasn't that good. Our cousin had the chicken, mac-n-cheese, and baked beans. She liked her food. My cousin had been to Virgil's before many years ago and said this experience mirrored past ones. We all ordered dessert as well. i had the strawberry shortcake, which wasn't great. The strawberries were fresh, and I liked the whipped cream, but the "shortcake" was actually the same biscuit that was served with my meal. It wasn't sweet enough and just didn't work well. I ended up picking over the dessert, so most of it went to waste. My sister had the key lime pie which she didn't like. My cousin had the banana pudding which she enjoyed. Overall, the experience got mixed reviews, but I'd visit Virgil's again in the future for sure. The bill ended up being about $150 plus, if I recall correctly, because we ordered alcoholic beverages as well.

Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

I saw that they have music on certain days so if you interested in some music come check it out. We ordered the two meat meal with greens, mac n cheese, and corn bread. They didn't have any pork belly burnt ends ready so that was a bummer. The food came out fairly quick which was nice. Everything looked really good. The brisket was cooked perfect and nice fatty parts to it if you like that. There was some good smoke to it and nice seasoning to it. The ribs were a little overcooked and not much meat on them. The mac n cheese was really good, nice amount of cheese, noodles cooked perfect, and nice seasoning in it. The greens were also cooked perfect, not mushy, great flavor, and also seasoned right. The cornbread was off the hook, very tasty with great flavor. I like that they mixed corn in the cornbread. We also ordered the Banana Wafer Pudding which was delicious. NIce flavor and the wafers were fresh and crunchy, I just needed more of them. We tried to wait for Pork Belly burnt ends but we had to go. The BBQ sauces were just ok, nothing to say hey you have to try it. I'd definitely be back to this place if I'm in town. Don't know why they only have 3.5 stars. The service was also good. I so wanted to give a 5 star but I just couldn't.

We visited Hill Country BBQ Market for dinner on Jun 24, 2025 as part of the Road Scholar's…read more"American Mosaic - An NYC Exploration" program. Since our program covered the expenses, we didn't pay anything out of pocket. Now I enjoy a good BBQ cookout at home as much as the next family, but don't care for it as a dining experience. My employer catered BBQ luncheons from time to time, and even then I wasn't crazy about it. Here in Hill Country, a room was reserved for us (party of 36). Our dinnerware resembled army mess tins lined with sanitary papers; our glasses resembled moonshine jars complete with screw threads at the rim for lids. Our dinner was a catered set of longhorn cheddar mac & cheese (quite good), sliced brisket (meh), market chicken (a little tough), fresh baked cornbread (dry & hard) and collard greens (good but could be saltier). I consumed massive amounts of mac & cheese and collared greens to help swallow down the almost rock-hard cornbread. Desert was chocolate chip cookies (that wasn't bad). Some members of the group ordered liquor (at their own expense) to celebrate the good time they were having. Customer service was less than stellar. The waitress did not inform us that soft drinks were complimentary until after we finished eating. That wasn't all. The restroom was located downstairs past the bar room. During my two visits - before and after the food was served - the same staff member was there cleaning. He had just finished the sinks when I went in the first time. On the second visit, the front door was blocked from the inside by a pail - he was mopping the floor. Couldn't he have waited till the off-peak hours to do that?? Customer service and cornbread were enough for me to not recommend this restaurant.

NOT IMPRESSED…read more Stopped in for a quick lunch around 1:00 PM and I was extremely disappointed with the service and food quality. When I arrived, there were only a few other customers seated in the dining room. That should have been a RED flag, but I wanted to try the burgers while visiting New York. My wife had the Classic Burger topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, house sauce served with fries for $19.95 and I had the Smash-ology Burger with double smash burger patties topped with American cheese, red onion, lettuce tomato, smash-ology sauce on a potato bun served with fries for $19.95. First, the burgers are very small, lack flavor and there is nothing special about them. I've had a better tasting burger from Steak & Shack for a fraction of the cost. The fries were very cold and looked like they were sitting on a holding table for an extended period. I sent the fries back only to be served with more cold fries. Service was also lacking. When I complained about the cold fries, the server didn't seem to be pleased and was very hesitant to take them back. At a cost of more than $45 for two burgers and fries, I expected more.
