Was this the best dim sum I've ever had...no. Was this the best dim sum in the Pittsburgh area? Yes, absolutely. Rice crepes are my favorite dim sum dish and this one was missing something both in the sauce and the texture but it satisfied my craving and for that, I am grateful. Other places I've been to only have certain dim sum dishes in the morning/afternoon but this place has dim sum cart items offered all day which is super nice.

Quiet, spacious place to have some dim sum in Oakland. Located a bit off the main drag, away from hospitals and campuses. The restaurant is very clean and tables are large so it would be good for groups. Large windows allow for good natural light. I've been here a couple times for lunch during the week and service was always pretty quick. Servers were helpful in answering questions. My favorite dish was the steamed shumai with shrimp and pork. They were very dense, meaty dumplings. A close second would be the steamed dumplings with shrimp and spinach (similar flavor profile). The steamed rice rolls come in several varieties (I got mine with shrimp); they are more roll than filling, so ended up being large bites of chewy roll in sauce. The buns also come with different fillings (I got mine with pork); they are very puffy and a bit sweet, so almost felt like a dessert bite. Much more bun than filling. Finally, the scallion pancake is a great appetizer to get the meal going. Not too big, so good for sharing with just two people.

Back again with another review! So they have a newer menu with a ton more options and selections. They have added a hibachi menu, congee, and a few other dishes that weren't on there previously. I am a true congee person and I probably eat that every day if I knew how to make it correctly; one day. They also have a rewards program which I wish they had this before my last recent visit. We had a mixture of items: Shrimp dumplings, fried dough rice noodle rolls, steamed custard bun, a ramen bowl, and congee with fish + their egg tarts! Also, the manager was so kind to give us a dessert called bingfen which I think I had something similar in Taiwan but it's not the same toppings.

The interior is very spacious and has a clean aesthetic. This restaurant is perfect for friends or families with options for booths or tables. We were sat instantly and the dishes came at an appropriate time. My favorites were the turnip cake and the chicken feet. However, every other dimsum dish was below standard and is not worth getting. It was a good experience trying dimsum in pittsburgh but will not be getting these dishes again.

Actually pleasantly surprised and pleased with the quality of food at HK dimsum. As a city that doesn't offer a lot of dim sum options, HK dimsum definitely brings a strong option to the city. Sadly they don't do cart service, but that is understandable given how slow it during Sunday lunchtime. Even though it wasn't cart service, the turn around time from ordering and getting the food was actually pretty quick. Everything came out piping hot and the seasoning and flavors were right on point. Our cheung fun (rice noodle roll) dishes did seem a bit overcooked, so I'm hoping it was just a fluke for the day. I'm willing to come back and try it again since everything else was fantastic. The cha sui (steamed pork buns) was probably the best I've had in the city (albeit limited options here). The prices were a bit on the higher side for dimsum, but I was pleased at the quality. They also had a traditional and authentic Chinese menu that I'll have to try another time. The inside was very clean and modern. It kind of reminded of us being in a hotel lobby. We had the kindest server who adored our toddler and was very accommodating which was a big plus!!

Consider myself a dim sum lover and this place definitely checks every box. Had limited taro offerings but they made up for it in big flavor. Service was prompt and was quickly seated. Came on a weekday for a quick bit and would come back in the future!

This was a great spot right in North Oakland. It is a perfect style to get a bunch of things and have everyone try a little bit of everything. Personal favorites were the sesame chicken and the soup dumplings are a must try. Our service was good as well, he was very sweet and helpful to accommodate to an allergy we had at the table. Great spot for a good casual eat and good spot for larger groups

Absolutely loved my experience at the soft launch of Hong Kong Dim Sum in North Oakland--what an incredible addition to Pittsburgh's food scene! Huge thanks to Jess and the Hungry Panda team for the invite to this unforgettable preview. HK Dim Sum is more than a restaurant; it's a celebration of Cantonese heritage, powered by a passionate trio bringing generations of dim sum mastery to the Steel City. Every dish is a labor of love--handmade, thoughtfully presented, and packed with flavor. We dove into the most addictive cheesy sweet potato balls (seriously, I could eat a dozen), soup dumplings served in the cutest ramekins, fluffy egg custard buns, honey roasted pork buns, and a stunning beef noodle dish that tasted as good as it looked. The chicken and shrimp fried rice? Perfectly seasoned comfort food. The attention to detail here--from the pleats on the dumplings to the warm, inviting vibe of the space--is something special. Pittsburgh's dim sum scene is heating up, and HK Dim Sum is setting the bar. Welcoming staff, vibrant flavors, and a deep respect for tradition with a creative twist-- #GOUDapproved and absolutely worth your first (and second, third & fourth...) visit.

Yasss! HK Dim Sum is finally opened. I'm excited for a place in the city where I can get solid dim sum. I treated myself on a weekday and found a table easily. The restaurant is sizable with a back area more for larger groups with giant lazy susans. Now to the food - Sui mai: It's exactly what I had hoped for. Stuffed well and steamed perfectly. - Turnip cake: Pan fried well with a nice display - Banana leaf wrapped rice: Yum! The sticky rice was delightful and egg cooked to a level with the right amount of yolky goodness - BBQ roasted pork bao: This was just okay. I found the bao a little dry. Overall, definitely recommend if you want to give it a try!

We will definitely go back to this restaurant when we are in Oakland. The food, service and ambiance were all spot on. We tried both the pork and beef ribs, a cold beef salad, shrimp cakes and soup dumplings. We really enjoyed all of the different flavors and our waitress was great.

I am from Hong Kong. Dim sum was my life growing up. I've lived in a number of places in the US and it's always been hard to find a good dim sum place that lives up to Hong Kong standards. I am so happy to say that HK Dim Sum not only lives up to my standards, but it exceeds them. Their food is authentic and delicious. They cook everything themselves, nothing is frozen and reheated. Their menu is vast and has grown since their opening in May. My family comes here all the time. I brought my parents when they visited me, and they still live in Hong Kong, and they were also impressed. They are picky so this says a lot! The service is great and the waitstaff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is very nice. They have private rooms that are similar to those in Hong Kong dim sum restaurants. Their dinnerware is very unique and beautiful. I love everything about this restaurant and I am so grateful they've graced the Pittsburgh food scene!

Great space- we dined at a 8 top with a huge lazy susan- Food was melt in your mouth delicious and the service was fast and friendly. again did not try the noodles but we did try the steamed greens with garlic- very simple and great. We also had stuffed eggplant and rice in lotus leaf. The bowl pictured is called a jelly- it is beautifully colored with pearls ( kind of like boba) and has a sweat tea flavor and has the texture of jello. Again service was outstanding. We did have to wait longer for some orders but there were several large groups so the kitchen was busy.

    Cute plates!
    Jonathan A.

We've come twice and had good experiences both times. The menu has quite a variety of options and they are all good. My particular favorites are the Steamed Honey Roasted Pork Buns and the prawn fritters. Great staff and good food, probably the best Dim Sum in Pittsburgh.

They have a series of vegetarian appetizers, but that's not their focus. In terms of the overall experience, the staff is very friendly and on top of things. We ordered takeout, but the online ordering site didn't give us a confirmation of our order. A quick call to the restaurant confirmed that everything was received and already in process. In terms of the food, the wood ear mushrooms and tofu skins was a clear winner. The broccoli was fine, but I would have preferred Chinese broccoli or watercress if they were available. The five spiced eggplant was fine: steamed to a custard-like level of softness, then paired with a salty sauce and served cold. The dan dan noodles were probably best suited for a dine-in experience and didn't really travel well. My partner tells me that the stuffed pork buns were good, but the solid piece of pork in the center was less optimal than something shredded or thinned out with some vegetable matter. All told, this was a good experience. The vegetarian appetizers were good but not exceptional. The various noodle and bun dishes were very nicely crafted. The hand made noodles were a particularly nice touch, with a lot more flavor and texture than I would have ever expected. If I have any requests, it would be for more vegetable centric noodle options.

What I got was not what I was expecting (char siu and boiled egg). The plate was more egg drop soup with pork and peas. It also had a sweet flavor. - Dim sum for one: Sui mai was decent. Har gao was off. They must have put something meant for the dessert dumpling into it. Coconut didn't have the mochi consistency I was expecting. It was very soft, not at all sticky or chewy. The restaurant itself is in a bit of a drab strip mall, but it's generally nicely decorated with colorful signage and a nicely kept interior. In terms of the food, the shrimp spinach dumplings were really nicely done, with lots of flavor and texture. My partner especially enjoyed the barbecue pork bao, which were nicely steamed with a very flavorful filling. The egg tart was good, but not really my thing. It had a bit of a caramelized sugar flavor reminiscent of waffles with syrup. The spicy oil splashed noodles, one of the noodle dishes on the menu, was generally lacking: some nice toppings, but not much flavor. Overall, this is a nice little place that seems to be fairly well run. I suggest going for the dim sum and giving up on expectations for anything on the menu that isn't dim sum.
