I asked for a fade on the left and right side of my head. Very clearly said to not touch the back. I ended up leaving BALD cause the old man tried to give me a monk cut. After we agreed on what I wanted he proceeded to just shave the back the back of my head after doing the right side. He said "my bad" and CONTINUED TO TRY TO CUT MY HAIR. I asked for someone else to finish the session after that. The lady who had to give me a buzz cut was super nice and apologetic, but I went there on my work lunch wanting a super simple haircut and came back to the office bald cause that old guy messed up. Normally don't leave 1 star reviews cause I honestly believe they're dumb most of the time, but this was a first. Thankfully I don't have a peanut head but ya know -edit This was the day before and I had to wake up bald this morning so felt inclined to leave this review to hopefully alert others and mainly to make myself feel better about this read more

I scheduled an appointment with Jenny and she confirmed the date. Day comes and I text her throughout to make sure if this location is still the right one and she didn't respond. I don't have a particular place to get a haircut, but when I am on Tully and in need of a haircut, I come here. The stylists are always so nice -- and I am lucky that I always get the same guy. He is hip so he knows how to style my hair. I'm pretty easy so I just tell him to cut it and make me look like a new person again. I recommend getting your hair washed after your haircut -- and they will even give you a good massage to go along with it. They even massage part of my back and I literally almost fell asleep. zzzzzzzzzz That's how relaxed I was. I'm sure they have a complete salon service, but since I'm a basic guy with not much "fu-fu" trimmings other than a haircut, I did not take advantage of their other full service. However, from what my friends have said especially from the women point of view, they do awesome hair style and make-up especially for weddings and for special events. I hate having my hair done. But my hair is in the process of growing back (awkwardly) and it looked terrible. With the holidays approaching it really wasn't something I could avoid anymore. So I went this morning. They told me I could have my hair colored and highlighted, after which they would trim it for $90 total. That's a ridiculously good price. I ended up giving her a $30 tip. I saw Lynn. Her own hair is beautiful - understated and tasteful. That's always a good sign. When mine grows out I'll know what to do with it, but in the meantime I am at the mercy of whoever cuts it, and that's never a relaxing experience. But Lynn clearly knows what she's doing -- and the way she styled it was *super* cute. She actually gave me a cut that made my hair look like the length/shape is deliberate and not part of the awkward 'growing out' phase. And she didn't ask a million questions!! Such a relief to have my hair done by someone who doesn't try to sustain 2 hours of inane banter. The color was lighter than I wanted - I'm naturally brownish/blonde and I was thinking it might be fun to try something darker but the resulting color ended up being several shades lighter than my natural color. That said, I don't mind it, and the highlights she put in are beautifully subtle. I decide to go for it and the results are more amazing than I've ever had!!! The prices here are reasonable and the work they do is superior!!! If you have damage from chemical processes... This place is the worst experience I'd ever had. The staff are not very well experienced. They have poor customer service. They are not very friendly when my son and I both come to get our haircut. We stood nearly ten minutes to be helped. We felt very unwelcoming and we still left them tip after they messed up both of our hair and charge us nearly $200. I asked one of the stylist to cut thin layers for me. She ended up chopping off my entire hair and leaving it uneven and chopped. As for my son, I asked for short tampered and fade cut. His hair came out uneven. This is one hell of a bad experience and I will not return again. read more

This is the best bargain for great services. I used to go to fancy places and pay $60 to $75 for a haircut. While those places were extremely fancier they don't have the great service, hair cut and professionalism I get from here. My favorite and only stylist is Jennifer. She takes her time with me and is very detail oriented. I usually get a hair cut (only freaking $8), shampoo and shave all for around $15 total (for all three services) compare that to just for a hair cut at Great Clips or Super Cuts for $12-$14. She makes me few like a VIP with her shaving with this sharp blade and the powdering she gives with a large black brush when she's finishes reminds me what you would get at a great barber shop. She also does my nails when the nail person is busy and I feel very pampered. I used to have these tags around my neck. That's a little tiny knot of skin all around the area of my collar from all the friction between skin and shirt and Jennifer referred me to Minh, who runs the salon, and he used a laser to remove them instead of having to go to Kaiser (which usually tells me they would have to burn them off with nitroglycerin and it would burn my skin off leaving scars and would cost me $75 per tag removed). To which I said 'Hell no!' to Kaiser. Minh charged me only $100 to burn off all 6 of those nasty little pieces of skin thanks to Jennifer's referral. They do sting a bit like you got an ant biting you but that's the only down side. The little scab that appears soon disappear and no scarring at all. Woohoo! Been trying to find a way to get those things removed for years without scarring. I take my boys here too and they love her since she's so friendly to the kids. I come back for a cut/shampoo/shave every couple of weeks because it is such a great way to spend 30-40 minutes and feel so pampered w/out paying a ton. I leave a great tip so I could keep Jennifer working there. She's a hottie but very easy to talk to so it is cool to have a stylist I can secretly drool over. Oops, guess the secret is out. I would recommend making an appointment when possible because she's quite busy. Sometimes I would be able to catch her by simply walk-in but other times I would have to wait for 20-30 minutes. But she's worth waiting for. read more

I would usually come here for a haircut from Minh, the location of the store is easy to find in the plaza. But the parking is somewhat a hassle when you come here and sometimes you can't find one. I would say come here between 12PM - 4PM, during this time there would be a possible parking spaces available for your choosing. Came in this morning around 11am to not finding my orginal hair stylist not at the store, I asked one of the employees if Minh is going to be here today. They told me to come in between half an hour to an hour. Alright, that's fine, I came 4 to 5 hrs later, and he was working on a couple customers, don't mind waiting :] When it was my turn to get my haircut, I showed him a picture of what I wanted because I can't really explain in a way it was understandable. He got it pretty down when he saw it, I was wondering if I was either it was me or did i smell burning of my hair? I checked my hair afterwards when he was done with my hair if my hair was damaged or whatnot from the hair dryer... meh it wasn't hehe. Overall, I came here about a year now and everytime I would come, Minh would always ask me how I wanted my hair before he started, and he was really nice about it. And i am so so happy with how he took care of my hair, he spent a lot of time to make sure it looks nice ( even when i dont have much time to take care and style it at home everyday ! ) today i took my bf here to get a undercut haircut, and it came out perfect too ! My girlfriend went to try out this salon and she had a great time! She needed to ombre out her pink hair and the lady The did an amazing job! She spent three hours to make my girlfriend's hair look good and the outcome was just stunning! I started going here around March of 2012 and met Thi, who's a really good hair stylist. I like how he takes his time and is very meticulous. However, the next time I went there, the owner said that Thi went to Vietnam. So I shrugged it off and got my hair cut by the other (which I presume is Minh). I came back a month later looking for Thi, but he's still out, still in Vietnam. Something smells fishy here. I think Thi no longer works there. Anybody know where he went? read more

Sophie is amazing! She's cordial, professional, quick and thorough. Her prices are also reasonable for the excellent quality of work she does. I found her through Yelp and I sure am glad to have listened to the recommendations posted on here. I wasn't sure what to expect and was extremely pleased with the end results. I like that she's honest and is after ensuring her client's satisfaction. On Dec 9, 2011, I came to this place for my haircut and CHAU was the hairdresser who cut my hair. I was not very satisfied with it since he cut it too short. I did not say anything since I was sitting next to a my family members. This guy got upset and started yelling at me in knowing I would not react since my family was there. As he kicked my out of his chair, he pulled the towel with force and continue yelling until I left the salon. Since Chau is not the owner, I spoke to the owner afterwards to let him know what happened. I already reported this to the San Jose Police Department. Just to put this review in perspective, I am very picky when it comes to my hair and have gone through about 4-5 barbers in San Jose looking for "the one". I drove about 20 minutes to get here which is a stretch personally, but I think I found "the one". I asked for a trim, shorter on the sides and length on top for styling. Hoang pretty much guessed it before I could explain and off we go. Very methodical and efficient haircut. I must have been done in 10 minutes and feel I had the best cut I have ever had. San Jose is a competitive area for hair salons...you spot a couple of them every block especially along Tully Rd, but let me tell you...Sophie is one of a kind! For the longest time she was cutting my hair at another location, but she left and I couldn't find her for the longest time! After scrolling through a bunch of places on yelp, I finally ran into her salon and immediately went in the next day! I live almost an hour and a half away, but the drive is nothing if my hair looks good. So happy to know she owns this place, she deserves it! The ladies here are so sweet as well, and I hope that business continues to bloom for her even though she's surrounded by a bunch of salons. Highly recommended to everyone! It was my 3rd visit to HM Beauty Salon ( by Hoang Minh ) at 2467# G Alvin Ave. San Jose, California. I visited his salon last week. The hair dresser Hoang Minh's facial expression and mannerism seemed upset, when I seated. He started to spraying my hair with a water bottle in an irritated way by spraying at my face. I thought it was unusual of him because he had been respectful to me in the past. I imagined he was having a bad day. He usually prepared my hair my using a hair blush and a hair iron to straighten my hair in the past, but he skipped those processes on the day. He started grabbing my head down with his hand for several times and pulled my hair. I felt extreme pain. I felt confused because he had been civil with me in the past. I was about to ask him, "Are you O.K.?" Without brushing my hair, he pulled my hair upward by grabbing it. Then he started cut my hair in a disgusted and hurried manner. I was stunned, and could not say anything. I should have told him to stop and left the salon at the point. But he already started cutting my hair spitefully by randomly grabbing my hair, even though my hair was tangled by the way he grabbed. He kept holding down my head forcefully while pulling and cutting my hair. I felt pain, but I thought it was too late to walk out since he was cutting my hair drastically in a way he did not treat me in the past. The way he treated me was very abusive. I felt fear by his ill-treatment and nonverbal emotional expressions. After the hair cut was over, he used a blow-dryer to style my hair with very high temperature. I felt the strong heat on my face. I smelled the burned smell of my hair. I am sure he knew the way he was doing was malicious and damaging my hair. As soon as it was over, he said "done", and immediately left to the back room. He did not cut my hair the way I asked at all. I showed hims a photo from a hair catalog to show him how I wished at the beginning of the service. He non-verbally expressed that he did not wish to communicate with me by leaving the spot immediately. I asked the female worker at the register about him. She suggested me to talk to him, and called him by going to the back room. I think he left to the back room because he knew the way he treated my hair is not acceptable as a professional. He approached me after the female worker called him. His nonverbal expressions showed he was disgusted and emotionally disoriented to talk. I felt he could be dangerous because of his hysterical irritation and impatience. My friend was there at the waiting section in the salon. He has strong Vietnamese accent, so it is difficult to have a talk in English. I believe majority of his customers are Vietnamese. I am not a Vietnamese. I think he did such maltreatment to me because he thought I wouldn't tell people or complain. I had a long hair without layer, but now it's randomly and unevenly cut with ugly unevenness. Before he started his "service", I showed a photo of the hair style I wished. He cut my hair into a complete opposite. My hair became coarse and damaged because of the way he used blow-dryer. My hair smelled burnt even after I took a shower. I have been experiencing constant discomfort of skin where he pulled my hair repeatedly and used a blow-dryer in high temperature. He could have told me he was not feeling well to refuse the service to me because he was showing extreme unwillingness to cut my hair as a professional. The female worker at his salon knew I am a normal customer. My friend and the female worker at the salon witnessed it. There were also two other male hair dressers at the time. They knew I was civil with Hoang Minh at the salon. No one deserves to be treated like this. read more

I like getting my nails done here. Other places I have been to, I noticed they are always in a rush or they will have two people working on your nails. I had Sophia do my nails and she took her time. Unlike other places that used the little machine to take off the gel, Sophia will use a regular file stick to take it off. This way, it will not damage your nails. Came here for a haircut yesterday. A woman cut my hair. Showed her a picture before the cut and explained to her what I wanted to do with my hair, she said she understood and told me I got nothing to worry about with an annoying face. I didn't know if she was having a bad day. Turned out going there was the biggest mistake of my life. My hair turned out nothing like the picture, she also managed to damage it. When I told her about it, she said blamed it on me and the condition of my hair, which I found really weird since I took care of my hair very well and got no problem with it before. The service was unacceptable there. When I came in, the employee just looked at me and talked in Vietnamese until the girl name Sophie came out and told me to take a seat on her chair.
