I've been refraining from writing a review for awhile now because I've been going to Ben every year for a haircut and it was always amazing. Unfortunately when I booked an appointment this year on New Year's Eve, the lady who cut my hair messed it up so bad. When booking I always ask for Ben, they told me Ben was available to cut my hair so I came in. When I came in, an older lady started to wash and blow dry my hair. I was so stunned when she started cutting my hair, she didn't even straighten the hair before cutting. My hair is extremely frizzy and poofy when it's not straighten. I told her many times to only give me a trim and to cut the spilt ends off and that I like my hair long. Keep in mind my hair was down to my waist when I came in and left with my hair above my chest. I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt but she cut almost all my hair off. After the cut she styled my hair and all the hair curled inwards so I couldn't see how messed up it was. I went home and straighten my hair back to normal and I was baffled. The left side was completely uneven and chopped. My hair was so so short and I asked to keep the length. I've been trying to grow it out to see if it'll blend in but it's still so bad (it's been 7 months). I texted them and they offered to fix it but there's no way you can fix it without making it more short. I am literally traumatized and won't let anyone touch my hair anymore. I had the worst haircut of my life here. Ben used a men's hair trimmer to cut my hair. I am a woman, and I have had my hair cut many times before, but this was the first time anyone has ever used a hair trimmer to cut my hair. He used the trimmer to shorten my hair, which suggests that he is not skilled at using scissors to cut long hair into a shorter style. After that, he only used scissors to make a few minor adjustments at the bottom. No layers were added at all. The only thing I specifically asked for was to keep my hair long enough to tie up. However, the hair ended up being too short to tie back properly. He also used a very strong fragranced spray on my hair. The smell was overwhelming, and I had to wash my hair multiple times when I got home to get rid of it. In addition, he used a hot iron on my hair, which can be very damaging. It gave me the impression that he was not very concerned about the health of my hair. Maybe he is good at cutting men's hair, but I would not recommend him for women's haircuts. Honestly, I don't see much difference between this haircut and what I could have done myself at home. The result looks like someone simply tied the hair back and cut straight across the bottom. This place is hard to spot because it's hidden next to Cao Nguyen restaurants where Pho21 plaza is. I showed Ben 3 color shades that I wanted and mentioned I don't want to bleach my hair so he recommended this base on my current hair color. Mai and Bich did my hair color and the results came out just how I wanted it. I love it! The hair wash by Mai was soooo relaxing especially with the minty tingling feeling. She did a little head massage while washing my hair and she's so good it's way better than others placed where I went to for head-spa. Short review: Incredible work by caring and dedicated professionals!! Just look at the before and after pics -- the transformation is incredible!! Long review: I scheduled a same-day appointment (via phone) for a bleach + color. (I think some salons call it a "global bleach and color"?) I arrived a bit early for my 1:30pm appointment but was seated immediately. Ben did a strand test first to make sure my hair can take the hairstyle I had in mind. I thought that was super professional of them! The strand test went well so we got started. Originally we thought it would take about 5 hours. Nope! My hair is thick and really dark so the bleaching took longer than expected. They finished at 9:40pm. Almost three hours after their closing time!!! I know this must be an exception but I am so appreciative of their professionalism about getting the job done rather than rushing things. Update 07/08/22 I went in the next day and Ben did a wonderful job of fixing my hair and I'm blown away at how wonderful it came out. The team had responded to my concerns and reached out to me right away which I thought was super professional and kind of them. While my initial experience was mortifying, I am so glad that they were honest with their mistakes and went out of their way to fix it. As for the hair, Ben is like a hair wizard -- it looks fantastic! Though it is shorter than I had wanted initially, I still really love it! She sporadically thins out my hair and proceeds to straighten it AGAIN. At this point I look like a 45 year old mother -- so if you're into that,this is for you. However I'm 22 and wanted the wolf cut, not to age twenty years. Finally BEN comes and realizes it is a really bad cut. Thankfully he tried to salvage it and was incredibly understanding about it. He acknowledged that she made a mistake which I really appreciated the honesty and the cut was on the house. This was really sweet of them -- but still my hair is ruined. I drove all the way down from LA to go to this place but it ended up being the worst part of my stay here. Always a great experience here! It's been about 2 years since my last salon visit (also Ben!), and it was highly overdue. I called the morning of and set an appointment to come in between 5 - 5:30PM. I got there around 5:15 and they asked me to have a seat and they'd be with me in about 10 minutes. Much sooner than that, they came to get me and took me to wash and deep condition my hair. It was slightly busy for a Thursday evening but they worked fast to get me situated. After deep conditioning for 30 minutes, I was in the chair, Ben and his assistant were working as a team to brush and dry my long hair. I explained to Ben what I wanted and he went to work, trimming all my dead ends and softly framing my face with layers. Ben and his assistant then worked to straighten my hair and ensure that I was happy with the results. They had me out the door by 6:35, less than an hour and a half since I arrived. I always appreciate the time efficiency and quality here. For the deep conditioning treatment and haircut, it was a total of $90. Plus tip and I paid $110. I couldn't be happier! Healthy hair and a fresh trim always give me a boost of confidence, I believe it's worth every penny. I can't wait to be back (much sooner than 2 years this time)! read more

I'm very disappointed with this place and its service. I went because of a friend's referral for partial highlights. I showed Ben 3 pictures of what I usually get at anther place. I specifically said I wanted butter/honey color, I wanted warm blond. I specifically said I did NOT want ash, and I did not want chunks of color in my hair, I wanted it to be natural looking and I showed pictures. I ended up paying $185 plus %18 on tips to get chunk sections of white hair and it looks fake. Also, I have very thin hair and they burnt my hair with the flat iron. All my ends are split and burnt!!! I even asked them to fix it, and they haven't gotten back to me. I'm very disappointed and I'd no be recommending this place, I'd be saying to avoid it! read more

Please check your response with my review and others that have provided you with the less desired response. Some responses are just RUDE when people are just using the platform to provide feedback. Some people just like to tell it to your face that they are not satisfied. I understand you would like to think that your customers are always happy but I see A LOT of 1 stars, 2 stars, and 3 stars reviews. Obviously, not EVERYONE is happy with your service. But it's good to think that way. Do I spend hours reviewing businesses...hmm..not really but the platform for the general public to use and is to provide feedback of their experience. I'm sure you have used either Yelp, Google and/or other social media platforms to find a place to eat, etc. My reviews are real and not bought by businesses as some are. I see many businesses with newly created accounts with one review to their name, claiming a business is awesome and the best of all but some may not be true. My reviews are based on my own experience, and I never review a place without being there and experiencing the service, etc. I'm sorry you and your business cannot take constructive feedback. I understand the disappointment but the truth of the matter is that I was not happy with my hair cut and hair doesn't grow long overnight. So, I'm putting the message out there. One fact I did not mention is that BEN was very busy that day and he went from one person to another. He cut my hair with the SAME shear and comb that he used on the previous customer and maybe the one before that. I'm sure if you view your videos, you may find this to be true. This is both gross and unsanitary. I had to go home and wash my hair even though it was washed the night before. I wonder what the Barber of Cosmetology would say about this - if I had reported it. First thing when I sit down on the chair is get my hair straighten with high high heat by maybe his assistant. I can see steam coming from my hair and I washed my hair a day before. Second, Ben comes and ask what hair style I want. I told Ben I don't want thinning of the hair and I want some long layer in the back and small layer to shape my face and curtain bangs. Well folks let me tell you, this is the first time I see a hair stylist use curved shears that are similar to the one that cut dog hair. He begins to split my hair right in the middle and goes at it chopping a bunch of hair at a time from my check bone down to my ends. I mean as if he was chopping dog hair. He does not cut hair section by section as I have seen many times with other stylist. The result, too much layers and I lost my sense of "fullness" in my hair which took me along time to grow out. I love this place for many reasons and wouldn't go elsewhere. #1- Time efficient- every time I schedule an appointment I do not need to wait for more than 5 mins to be seated. #2- Precision- Ben creates a look in which each hair section is cut with a reason in place and in accordance with the rest of our face, thus creating a natural looking style, that falls easy into shape. #3- Communication- Ben listens and when I say trim he will ask you how much to cut and show you as well. #4- Parking- easy to access with a lot of front parking. #5- Environment- great atmosphere with great music. I actually fell asleep during my wash. The workers are friendly and very helpful! #6- Price- Ben never over charges. I've oil treatment my hair at multiple salons and Ben's price is very reasonable. #7- Extras- I love that they either straighten or curl your hair at no extra fee. this is a late review as this happened to me almost a year ago. honestly hesitated to even write a review at all because of how disappointing this situation even was and i just wanted to pretend this didn't even happen. i went to ben back in april requesting for a color block bleach style on the top of the head. i was going for more of a veil type look and let him know that i didn't want the section to be too thick as i wanted my black virgin hair to peak through underneath. at that time i also had bleached under pieces as well as money pieces that have been previously done by them and ben observed that there was a few spots of breakage from those areas, so i had let him know my hair history and also informed him that my hair is very blonde underneath as i dyed it brown outside of his salon previously. he told me the game plan, that he was gonna bleach the new section as well as lighten out the brown of my already bleached hair to match the new section. the estimate he gave me was $250 which i was happy about so we proceeded with this appointment the following day. i come back and his team started to get to work on my hair. the first red flag was that they made the section on top of my head too thick so it wouldn't create a peekaboo effect, but before i could have known they already applied all of the bleach. the next red flag was when they proceeded to apply bleach on my already bleached money pieces and peekaboo at the same time as processing my asian virgin black hair with that same bleach. i am no expert in hair so although i felt worried the moment that they were bleaching my already bleached hair while also retouching my roots, i trusted them and assumed they knew what they were doing. which was a huge mistake. i also noticed that they did not do anything with my current peekaboo and left it untouched throughout the whole service. while my hair was processing, i felt that the front of my head felt concerningly warm and heard dripping noises around the foils. i recently found out that this happens if the bleach reacts with any minerals on the hair to which i believe it was the brown dye that was on my hair that i already informed ben about, this makes the bleach heat up even more and considering the fact that my hair is already weak from being previously bleached by them, this was a HUGE NO NO. on top of all of this, they neglected to check up on the integrity or progress of the front part of my hair while it was processing, only focusing on checking on the newly bleached section. when it was time to wash out my hair they had me wait at the hair washing chair for almost an hour because they applied a hair treatment for the hair damage that i still wasn't aware about. after this, i sat back on my chair and they started to blow dry my hair and i immediately started to see the problem with my hair. my whole front part for the money piece had completely broken off and mind you that i already had a thick section for these money pieces. i was in disbelief and was still naive enough to think that maybe they weren't done with my service yet and so i proceeded to continue to trust the process because they still haven't done anything with my current peekaboo. once they were done blow drying my hair, that's when they said they were done to which i was very confused. i asked them about my peekaboo to which they said they though i didn't want that part touched so it wasn't part of the service and the estimated cost. given that i was already paying $250 for this, i didn't mind paying extra for my peekaboo to be retouched for another appointment. usually they style my hair by curling it but ben explained that my hair was too damaged to do that, and i was very confused as to why he was tell me my hair was damaged because he had bleached and styled my hair before. when i looked closely in the mirror, i finally saw how fried and broken my hair was. the whole section of the money pieces that they applied bleach on (which btw already is blonde so idk why they would think to add bleach again and let it sit for a long time) had all BROKEN OFF. i was so disappointed and in disbelief that my whole front part of my hair had fallen off and they didn't even do anything or even offer to fix it, they just said they were done and had me pay for the disaster they left my hair. foolishly, i came back the following day so that they could finish the peekaboo. and out of deep fear and concern i repeatedly informed them that the peekaboo part of my hair has the same hair history as my money pieces in case there was just a language barrier before that which led to all of my front part of my hair falling off. ben kept saying he understood but then his team started getting to work on my hair and continues to put on bleach on my ALREADY BLEACHED HAIR while also trying to bleach my ASIAN VIRGIN BLACK HAIR. this is at the back of my head so i couldn't see what they have done and considering i told them I booked an appointment for 10 AM. I arrived on time and Ben gave me a haircut. I asked for a bob but didn't provide a picture so that was on me. However, I showed him a picture of the balayage i wanted but in no way did the end result resemble the picture. I'm aware that it takes multiple sessions to achieve that look but my hair looks atrocious. I could've ruined my own hair for free. I expected Ben to bleach my hair since I had an appointment and let him know what I was coming in for. However, he deferred these duties to his assistant while he took multiple walk-in appointments. The store is NOT covid ready. There was a group of 5+ people that walked in for haircuts. Throughout their appointment, they took off their masks for extended periods of time and neither Ben or his assistant spoke up. He also allows people to get haircuts with their masks off. I'm not sure whether his assistant had a license to practice cosmetology or not, and if she did, her license should have been visible. Didn't see Ben's either. His assistant man-handled my hair. Wet bleached hair is super fragile and I'm assuming a cosmetologist should know that. I expected a lot more from Ben because he was recommended and praised by my cousin. He had the audacity to charge $365 for the "balayage" that wasn't even done by him. He contributed but his assistant did most of the work. If you're not Viet, you will be treated differently. Other than that, he's fantastic at cutting hair. Definitely come to Ben's Salon for haircuts, but wouldn't recommend getting balayage. Thankfully, I won't have to leave the house and I can wear a beanie to cover my hair, so I guess this was an ideal time to get your hair ruined. Edit: First of all, there are at least EIGHT stations at your salon. How would you expect your clients to see your license if there's only two people working and EIGHT stations? Do you have eight licenses to display? If I was at your salon for 5+ hours, I would've noticed a license if it was DISPLAYED. Also, note that they don't ACKNOWLEDGE nor DENY that his assistant f**ked my hair, and that HE didn't bother doing the job himself. It was my first time getting my hair done and I gave them the benefit of the doubt and trusted them with my hair. They bleached my hair twice in the same session. When you're paying a PROFESSIONAL for a service, you shouldn't doubt their abilities and be able to trust them. Instead, they took advantage of my inexperience, which shows their lack of ethics. And the fact that you acknowledged that you treat CERTAIN customers (i.e. the family of five) better than others is VERY BIASED. Shouldn't you treat ALL your clients with respect? Maybe if you put as much effort into doing people's hair as you do by insulting and bullying others, you wouldn't have any bad reviews. If you couldn't tell already, the way management deals with their poor reviews shows their true character. Instead of taking accountability for their actions, they gaslight the customer and invalidate their experience. Pathetic. Btw, the pictures of my hair were taken at Target, not a salon store. Don't try to make egregious and incorrect assumptions. It makes management look ignorant, hostile, and unprofessional. Instead of handling negative reviews and making amends, they further insult you which is CHILDISH. Is it illegal to take pictures of YOURSELF or the products recommended to me by the artist? If that wasn't allowed, yOu ShOuLd SpEaK uP but instead, you CHOSE not to say anything. If you're going to attack me, you could have AT least tried not to be a HYPOCRITE. If YoU rEvIeW tHe FoOtAgE, you'll see that their clients had their masks off during the total duration of their haircuts, which is UNNECESSARY. I kept my mask on for the duration of both my haircuts. Stop making excuses and blaming customers for your lack of professionalism. Better late than never because Ben really deserves this review: I tend to be very picky about hair cuts and hair dying overall so when my mom told me about this place, I was pretty hesitant. However, I walked in and Ben greeted us very kindly and asked me what I wanted. He followed through with my suggestions and concerns and the results of my hair is amazing. Never thought I'd do purple-red ombré but Ben suggested it and I'm so glad!! I've gotten so many compliments on it which makes me really happy. So thank you so much Ben! Excellent customer service and they did a great job on my root touch up and highlights. The ladies that helped me were super helpful, thoughtful and professional. The walked me through what was possible, so they could also manage expectations which is important so both sides will have the same conclusion on the outcome. Misunderstandings happen because people have a different expectation than reality. Communication is key and Kim did a great job at that with me. I love Ben and the other ladies here! They're very accommodating and always consider my time. I often come into the salon, not 100% knowing what I want and would ask Ben for his recommendations. He's never disappointed me with his work! The two other ladies are very sweet and usually help Ben with the bleaching/coloring process. They're also really gentle when washing your hair. From my experience, BEN Beauty Salon is like no other! The stylists really do respect your time and know what they're doing. I look forward to visiting again! read more

Ben and his staff are great, they've always been welcoming and I get exactly the cut I want every time. I come in once or twice a year to trim my hair and keep it at a reasonable length. I wanted to do something different with my hair this year and texted them for a quick estimate of what I wanted. The first time I texted them, they requested my hair info (length, density, etc), I provided all of that and what I was looking for, but they were likely really busy and forgot about my request. No big deal. I texted them a few days later, but I caught them on their closed day. They let me know they would get an estimate back to me by the end of the day, but I let them know I could text back on a work day. I didn't get a response so I figured I would have to reach out on work day. Texted them a third time about my request for an estimate/quote , they let me know the shop was open until 5PM for consultations. I let them know I was not in town and wouldn't be able to come in for a while and just wanted a general idea of what the costs would be. Left on read (they have read receipts). I can understand if the shop is really busy, but to keep forgetting/disregarding a customer that's seeking some info before coming in just.. leaves the worst feeling ever. I'm always trying to support small businesses (hence why I picked Ben's salon a while back), but this experience made me feel really ignored. If it would be better for me to come in for a consultation, I would have appreciated being told that from the start. I didn't have the time, but was excited to figure out how much my costs would be. I probably won't be coming back. It really sucks because this instance of poor communication really does not reflect their good work. I would still recommend this salon if you're able to come in person to hash out your hair styling details. read more
