I usually go to Dumpling Chinese when the Chinese takeout craving hits but their hot and sour soup wasn't doing it - so I decided to give Homei a try. I ordered the veggie fried rice with chicken wing special, which comes with a soup. I of course picked the hot and sour. The rice and wings were fine. It's what you'd expect from a typical Chinese takeout place. The soup here wasn't good either. It was watery, and neither hot nor sour. Decent, but super oily/greasy. The General Tso's Chicken was flavorful, but I definitely wouldn't say it was spicy. You can't beat the price on the lunch specials. Great sized portions! They also package everything well for delivery, so delivery from GrubHub was a breeze. read more

Alright. I've been eating from Ho Mei for years. I love Ho Mei. At some point, management changed, but I still continued eating from them. Tonight I ordered late. Sesame Chicken Combination Platter white rice w/o veggies Hot Sauce $0.50 Mustard Sauce $0.50 The food that arrived was: Sesame chicken combo w/ brown rice w/ veggies Mustard sauce Duck sauce Of course, I was a little disappointed, since my requests were either not met/not read. Even so, default rice is usually fried rice, not brown? The icing on the cake was the fly that had been fried onto a piece of my chicken. Food here is good, but not really to our liking. Why? Well, my family and I aren't used to ALL the dishes being on the sweet side, and it's waaay too saucy - which makes the dishes a bit heavy and oily. I guess it's good if you like eating tons of rice. We've given them a few tries with various dishes from Beef with Broccoli, Pork Lo Mein, Pepper Steak with Onion, and even their soups when it's chilly. I've been eating Ho Mei's offerings since I was 7 years-old. It's American-style Chinese, not from any province. They do claim to specialize in szechuan fare, but I'm not so sure about it. So here's a random list of items that I've had here in the last 20 years and you can pick your first meal from it. Please remember that all of these items are good to the mouth. All lo meins Moo Goo Gai Pan all proteins w/ broccoli all egg foo youngs shrimp toast all chow meins all veggie offerings fried chicken including wings The fried rice offerings are ok. I usually order from a different Chinese place in Hackensack but they're closed due to the pandemic. So I've been trying new places. This one was the best so far. I ordered quite a few things. Spare Ribs, Steamed Dumplings, Chicken Wings, Pork Fried Rice, Shrimp Roll and Fantail Shrimp. Nothing was greasy and everything was delicious. Only 2 complaints the portion was smaller than what I'm used to and they gave me soy sauce instead of the normal dumpling sauce for my dumplings. Overall it was great. read more

I'll tell ya, I read another review and the guy said this food almost killed him and drove a wedge between his family. I tried this place cause Jumbo's was closed. When I called Jumbo's the voicemail said "Jumbo closed for few days. You want Chinese food you call back in a few weeks." Seeings how I was hungry now and couldn't wait a few weeks we ordered up some General Tso's, Triple Delight, crab Rangoon and some steamed dumplings. The GTC was hella good. It wasn't quite as good as Jumbo's but it didn't taste like they used the chicken's lips to make it like they do at the spots i'm used too in Kearny. The Triple Delight was 3 kinds of wonderful. It was tangy and mad flavorful. The GTC had some kick too it too. The steamed dumplings were big and full of juicy tender meat. Mmmm just like I like it. The crab Rangoon was eh. I had trouble biting into the crispy edges but that may have to too with my suspect teeth. I'm currently under the care of an oral specialist. They didn't explode in my mouth with delicious creamy white crab goodness like they do at Jumbo's. All in all it was really good but I still prefer Jumbo's. I was ordering from this place pretty often. The food was always good. BUT the guy that delivers is absolutely crazy. Last night I was waiting for the delivery and I heard a commotion outside. A horn blowing franticly like someone was in distress. I looked out the window and it was the delivery guy. He saw me looking out the window and started yelling. Then he proceeded to ring the doorbell like 50 times. My son ordered from there and had the same delivery guy and the guy yelled at him saying the house address numbers are to small on the house! I order Chinese food on a regular basis from this restaurant for lunch at work. I love their wontons. Sometimes I get just a wonton soup for lunch and it's great. They also sell a dish called "crispy chicken". You need to try this dish. It is really good and definitely an original dish just to this restaurant. My staff and myself order this dish on a regular basis and sometimes bring it home because we know we cannot get it anywhere else except here. They also deliver quickly which is awesome. Fairly decent Chinese food in town. Fried wontons are not skimpy. Some places have wontons that have hardly any meat in them. Not this place! Other notably decent items are scallions pancakes, corn nuggets, vegetable lo mein, and egg drop soup. Also get siracha as a sauce if asked. I ordered from here and it was good. My husband said the place is small but clean. I haven't been there yet. Food was great. Fresh, not too oily, well seasoned (no need for the soy sauce) and hot. Eh, okay. I live within a few blocks from here. The only reason I order from this place is because: 1. I"m too time restricted or lazy to cook dinner and the owner is cool with me. 2. It's the only "Americanized" Chinese food within a 5 mile radius from home that I won't get sick from. I have a sense that the local yahoos here in Hasbrouck Heights know very little outside culture other than "Americanized" Italian food and Chinese food that can be found in every block here in this backwards town who still believe that JFK was still president with the typical nail salons in every corner of this town - OR - the local yahoos don't go outside of their perimeter of Hasbrouck Heights.
