Decent, but super oily/greasy. The General Tso's Chicken was flavorful, but I definitely wouldn't say it was spicy. You can't beat the price on the lunch specials. Great sized portions! They also package everything well for delivery, so delivery from GrubHub was a breeze.

Alright. I've been eating from Ho Mei for years. I love Ho Mei. At some point, management changed, but I still continued eating from them. Tonight I ordered late. Sesame Chicken Combination Platter white rice w/o veggies Hot Sauce $0.50 Mustard Sauce $0.50 The food that arrived was: Sesame chicken combo w/ brown rice w/ veggies Mustard sauce Duck sauce Of course, I was a little disappointed, since my requests were either not met/not read. Even so, default rice is usually fried rice, not brown? The icing on the cake was the fly that had been fried onto a piece of my chicken. I could not eat the meal and grubhub was kind enough to compensate me. Sad to lose a place I've ordered from for so long.

Never ordering from here again. Upon almost finishing my plate, this is what I discovered.

Sometimes it's good but most times it's not good. I guess it depends on the cook. I will say there pork dan dan noodles are good!

Bad service. Told me nothing could be added to the fried rice because it comes prepackaged. That isn't enticing so I canceled the order

Walked down there today to get some curry chicken, and it's very flavorful as to be expected - and I love that they add snap peas and water chestnuts to their curry! We decided to go out of our way and give them a try, based on some old Yelp photos of their pan fried dumplings and how good it looked in the photos. I constantly subject myself to new, lower-end establishments in hopes of finding gems here and there, but I should have known better with this one. This restaurant is very typical of any Chinese fast food restaurant and they serve most of the usuals here - I'm hoping the "usuals" of Chinese fast food need no introduction what so ever. In addition, there are your lunch specials as well, which are served daily from 11AM - 3PM. We ended up ordering the Pan Fried Pork Dumplings and a Chicken with Garlic Sauce Lunch Special with Pork Fried Rice and Wonton Soup for takeout. First, before I dive into the flavors, it was very disappointing to find out that the Pan Fried Pork Dumplings only came with 6 pieces. 6 pieces for $8!?!? What has this world come to that a bootleg pan fried pork dumpling is $1.33 each!?!? As for the food, meh. The pork dumplings were rather very average. It wasn't great, but it wasn't the worst pork dumpling I've ever had. As for the Chicken with Garlic Sauce - another meh. I've definitely had better when it comes to this type of a lunch special. The taste of it all was just a bit off and not as good as other Americanized Chinese fast food we've had at other places. It was worth a try to see if they served better pan fried dumplings than our favorite Chinese fast food restaurant, but the answer was a clear NO. As for the other food, it wasn't much better either.

It is similar to Sichuan/Szechuan cuisine in ways, in that there is an emphasis on spicy foods, although the spice profiles differ. It is in the space formerly occupied by a different Chinese restaurant called Joyce (RIP - I loved and miss their short-lived foray into seafood boils). Although there are many great authentic (meaning regionally specialized) Chinese restaurants in Bergen County and northern NJ, including several Sichuan places, this is the only Hunan one I'm aware of (without venturing further south into NJ), and is certainly one of the nicest Chinese restaurants atmosphere-wise, with an elegant dining room. If you want to try the interesting and authentic dishes, of which there are plenty, order from the sections of the menu labeled with "Hunan" or "Home Style." The soups and cold appetizers are very traditional too. The house speciality is the Hunan steamed fish head with pickled chili - the platter is quite impressive and takes 20-30 min to prepare. You can add tofu (recommended) or noodles for an additional $5. We ordered this but since I'm not a fish head fan (and like my fish very simply dressed) - I think it was a type of carp - the appreciation for it was lost on me. It's topped with a heap of red chilis but is actually not as spicy as it looks. Personally I prefer the fish fillet dishes such as the fish with ginger, which has very tender filet slices. I loved the soup dumplings (large and soupy), shrimp with salted egg yolk (or any salted egg yolk dishes, which aren't easy to find), and enjoyed the tender sautéed beef dishes like beef with spring onion or the spicy green pepper with steak, with crunchy peppers that give a piquant refreshing kick. They have whole Peking duck (Beijing roast duck)! The menu only shows pricing for the whole duck but we asked for half and they obliged. To be honest it's not the best Peking duck I've had but the balance of crispy skin (that's yet not too fatty) to generously shaved lean duck meat was unimpeachable. And they use high-quality crepes that are superbly thin but do not tear. The lo mein is also pretty good - it's slightly smoky and is better than common. Parking tip: there are only a few spots in front but there is a parking lot in the back of the building with plenty of spaces. There are lots of exciting and exotic menu offerings and still many we'd like to try, so we'll be back repeatedly.
