I had dinner at Ho Wah restaurant Saturday night the meal I had was superb. I ordered Roast Duck. I asked if the chef would cook it moist instead of crispy, he said that he would. Amazing food!!! I had the fried rice Kung po shrimp, and honey walnut shrimp and it was great! My family also got the orange chicken and mangolian beef and they said it is the best they've ever had!! Best Chinese food within 20 miles! I'm surprised that no one has heard of them, but I promised I would write a positive review for them. I had Shanghai (udon) noodles with shrimp, hot & sour soup, pot stickers and egg rolls. The pot stickers were out of this world! Egg rolls were fresh and crispy. No oily after taste at all. Because this was our first visit there, our server brought out crispy chicken wings on the house. For dessert, she also gave us bean curd & sesame balls. Not sure of the name on the menu, but they finished the meal perfectly. If you're passing through Marina & want a super fresh meal, go to Ho-Wah. I've been to Ho-Wah about 4 or 5 times since the New Management . I have to tell you this is a GREAT place to go for lunch or dinner. I do not live in Marina but about 20 miles away. The food, the atmosphere, the server(I think is the new owner) is awesome. I don't know why anyone would say the service is bad because I have been treated better in this place than most of the places I've eaten at. There chicken wings are to die for. The food is always hot and fresh. There Chow Mein is the best. We were given some sesame balls on the house, and they are really good. We wanted Chinese cuisine for a family get together. The choice narrowed down to Ho-Wah as it was rated more favorably on Yelp vs other Marina Chinese food restautants. We were feeding 13 people and some of our visitors are picky. My sister driving in from out of town offered to pick up the order. She called from the highway and placed the lengthy order. She and her husband arrived shortly after ordering and waited more than an hour for the food. Granted it was a large order with more than 14 pints and quarts of food but an hour seemed beyond excessive. My sister counted the food before paying and noticed the $15 plate, (most expensive item) was missing. Ten minutes later they were out the door minus just over $200. for the complete order. ​The chow mein was delicious. Beef with broccoli ​and fried rice was prepared nicely. Some of the vegetable dishes were cooked and presented very well. The vegetables were not overcooked and held up well even the next day. The orange chicken and other battered meat or chicken was mushy and tasteless. The most egregious offering was the chinese chicken salad. We threw it out as it was inedible. If we crave Chinese food we will likely dine there. I can get by on chow mein and fried rice. I can also overlook this one time miss on a giant order from out of the blue. We likely blew them out of some product and didn't give them time to call in help for food prep. read more

Have had a really tough time finding a Chinese restaurant where I liked the food, service, and felt it was clean. Just tried Ho Wah for the first time last month, have been several times since, and am super excited to say I'm so happy to have found them! They exceed all three of my points. The lady who runs it is so nice, the food is consistantly good and not greasy, and it's clean. So happy they are located in Marina! I have to rave about my choice of Shanghai Noodles, big fat noodles with assorted meat finished with a fabulous sauce. The only concerning thing (especially in this time) is that we had ordered for delivery, but the gentleman who delivered our food wasn't wearing any gloves nor a mask. Now I understand that we could of been his only delivery at that time. Still a little in easy because I don't know if he had delivered before or even after us. Yes!!! Finally an AUTHENTIC Chinese Restaurant in the area that is delicious and doesn't hurt my stomach! (Jim's and other Chinese restaurants in the area use way too much oil, over bread their deep fried entrees and don't keep their restaurant very clean). Ho-Wah is right next to Round Table in Marina, a little set back from the road..it's like a hidden treasure! A couple of my friends and I decided to try Ho-Wah a few weeks ago, and we were all impressed. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! Their portions and prices are very reasonable as well. I don't think I can ever have a Chinese chicken salad or Orange Chicken anywhere else again. The chicken chow mein was also fantastic (I just got that the other night, after they had closed and they still let me order!) I will not be going to Jim's, Lee's Garden or Panda ever again. She even offered me some tea while I waited for our take-out order. I cannot believe the amount and quality of food we got in the family meal #2. Only $27.95! We were recommended by the staff at CSUMB well done to Gisela Young for the recommendation. My husband and I met in Hong Kong and Gisela told us the chef is from Hong Kong so we came and ate and we're not disappointed. The food was so delicious and very generous portions. They serve a lovely hot ginger tea by the pot and have a list of local favorite dishes to choose from as well as the full menu. A must dine in for excellent Chinese cuisine. read more

I've been here a couple of times with my husband and our experience has always been pleasant. The main dining room is small cozy but they have a side room for bigger parties. Not the best Chinese food I've had, but still good. The staff are friendly and attentive. I do feel like it's a little on the pricey end but we usually do the 5 course "family style" meal which starts off at $18.50 per person. Some items can be upgraded so that's an added cost + drinks. Our most recent visit we paid just over $60 for just the 2 of us. The 5 course meal starts off with a cup of their "Soup of the day". Not sure if this changes since each time we've come its always been an egg drop soup. You get an appetizer consisting egg rolls and crab wontons. For us it was 2 egg rolls cut in half (4 pieces) and 2 crab wontons. Basically, 1 full eggroll and 1 wonton per person. You then select your rice and noodle side dishes. Most recently we went with the Jasmine rice (we usually do the egg fried rice which is good but thought we'd change it up). We each received a small bowl and unfortunately thought the rice was a tad bit undercooked. We upgraded the veggie chow mien to the house special which adds chicken, shrimp and pork. This was cooked well with flavor and doesn't leave a greasy layer of oil in your mouth like some other Chinese food places. For our main entrees my husband went with the szechuan beef (extra spicy) and I chose the orange chicken. Both dishes were cooked well and flavorful but the orange chicken we wish the chicken pieces were a bit bigger. On another note, we have also ordered food to-go in which I think a downside to this is the portions look to be less than you would get plated if you dined in. The to-go containers (chinese food boxes) are a bit small or at least smaller than I've seen at other restaurants. Overall, would recommend but not someplace we would dine or order from very often. read more

Been living in marina for about a year, we came into ho wah for an anniversary dinner and the waitress gave us a candle light dinner, the second time we came we got just the same service which is incredible, and we've loved it ever since. Searched online and find this so-called "authentic" Chinese restaurant with "Hong Kong chef". However, was very disappointed with the quality. Its just another typical Chinese restaurant, not particularly authentic or Hong Kong style at all. The BBQ pork fried rice is actually substituted with ham instead. Not worth the $1.25 extra...and they charged us extra for the dishes, and had to challenge them multiple times (mapping against the menu) before they are convinced that they billed is incorrectly. read more

I tried the mushroom chicken and it was great. it was nicely seasoned and veggies were cooked well (not saugy) It didnt have as much chicken as I hoped and had lots and lots of veggies. I love veggies so it was not bad. The salt and pepper fried tofu is so so good. It contains jalapenos and green onions and irs a burst of flavor. I always order take out. The seating in the restaurant looks uncomfortable and cold. I will keep coming back (for take out). Best part i dont feel bloated after i eat here like i do in other Chinese restaurants. read more

Pasty egg drop soup with no veggies, just cornstarch. Orange chicken was just tiny little pieces of over fried batter covered in heavy orange syrup. I couldn't find any chicken.
