Nice relaxed place, outdoor and indoor seating, very homely, old fashioned inn/pub style feel, with a slightly whimsical touch. very busy on weekends so come early and be prepared to wait. Great avocado burger! Unfortunately we were disturbed by an unruly mob of little people, led by an old wizard, a blonde dude, Ned Stark and the guy from Eastern Promises, they threw some jewelry into my soup, yelling something about something called Sauron, I'm guessing it's an appetizer. Poor service - we got stuck in a small back room and had to ask another waiter to get our waiter and other things we ordered more than once. Below average food - my salmon benedict plate was served cold, and our scoops of mass made home fries were also cold. My boyfriend's avocado omelet was burnt on the outside, and there was entirely too much avocado inside. A Sunday brunch place should know how to make an omelet. read more

I've been there twice now. I got the BBQ burger the second time, and I think I got it the first time too, but it was over a year between visits so I don't remember. I went with three other friends who all ordered different things. We decided to sit out on the screened in patio that they have. It is small and it gets hot out there very quickly, there were about six tables. We went in around 2-3pm so I don't know what the lunch hour is like. Service was okay, not the best I've had but the waitstaff and hostesses were very friendly and knowledgable. The best part of their menu is the burger section, they all look delicious and it took me quite a while to decide on the BBQ burger. I opted to sub french fries for the normal potato chips. I also got their iced tea, which was nothing to brag about, really bland. The french fries weren't very good either, like something you would buy out of the frozen section of your local grocery store (and not even the best of the choices available there). But the burger was incredbile! The BBQ sauce was sweet, maybe a honey BBQ sauce I don't remember, but it was much better than the more traditional tangy BBQ sauce. It also came with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes (which I opted out of), onion, and cheddar cheese which had melted and oozed over everything. The size of the burger is such that you have to cut it in half to eat, and even then it's a delicious struggle to eat it all. I managed to eat the whole thing there at the table. A friend with me got the Caesar burger which she said was good. Another friend got the fish tacos, which she said was good too. read more

So, it's not a LOTR theme park, but they do have fun posters, figurines, and T-Shirts. Ultimately, it's the FOOD you come for anyway, and it is DELICIOUS. There's lots of fun drinks to choose from too. They have a lot of vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options, so that's great. I'm a sucker for healthy food: their buffalo burger is great! The shredded carrots option will not leave you hungry. I ordered the burger w/o the bun, and the chef still put effort into making the plate attractive. Well done! The banana almond smoothie was delicious. You can definitely taste the bananas and enjoy the crunch of the almonds, too. Our waiter was friendly, but came to our table a bit too often. This place is fantastic. I have only been 3 times now, but I crave it all the time. My favorites are the shrimp cream cheese spring rolls, the guacamole salad and chip, and the hobbit wrap. OMG the Hobbit Wrap. It's a giant tortilla filled with greens, vegetables and I chose avocado and grilled chicken as my two extras. The service the 1st and 2nd time was great, and the third wasn't as good, but it was few a time when we went with nearly empty glasses. This place was pretty good. I got the shire sandwich, which I was super glad I ordered as a slim because it was still HUGE! Seriously, way too much food for me for one sitting. Switched out the side for fruit and it was super fresh and even included kiwi, which is awesome. My husband had the black bean burger, which he liked, but it was SO HUGE! Like hanging off the bread huge. And he added avocado but I swear they put like two whole avocados on the thing. Not a negative, but since they charge over 2 bucks to add avo, I'm glad they put a lot. Also like their daily happy hour special on beer, which they have a fairly nice selection of. Food was good, but service is lacking. They okayed our table's check to be separated, but ended up putting 2 meals on my credit card. Not a big deal. However when I called and spoke to the manager about it he asked me to speak with my table mates to see who ended up not getting charged. Although I don't expect to get a free meal, it doesn't seem right to make the customer do the leg work when their staff member made a mistake. I used to go to the Hobbit Hole years ago when I lived in the area, and really liked it. I recently stopped in at the Hobbit Cafe, a descendant of the Hobbit Hole. I had a spinach/feta omelet, the omelet was large, with plenty of spinach and feta. On the downside, the eggs were overcooked. The price was inexpensive. The service was slow, but not terribly so. Considering the quality of the Hobbit Hole, my visit was somewhat of a letdown. If you are looking for decent food at a good price, this is an option. But it doesn't really stand out, and I am unlikely to return. read more

What a cool place! The whole family enjoyed it. I had the Chilaquiles, my husband had the Poached Salmon Benedict, one kid had peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes, the other had an omelet. We all thoroughly enjoyed the flavorful dishes and the fun atmosphere. Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. Gollum and Gandalf watching over the dining room are a bonus. We have eaten here several times over the years, it's good fresh food with nice size portions in a charming cafe environment. If you are expecting little people singing and dancing on the table tops - it's not really like that, but it does get pretty loud because the dining rooms are hobbit small. The food is not great, it's just really good (usually), we particularly like the salads here which are fresh and made with love. Wait staff is usually pretty friendly and provide good service, although there is one guy who is too cool for school and doesn't write down your order. Last time we had him he had to come back and 'double check' our order ten minutes after we ordered, and we watched him totally fubar the table next to us who had lots of substitutions apparently. Overall Hobbit Cafe is a nice place for a decent meal made fresh. We were disappointed there were no dancing hobbits however. read more

Would you like a side of Zika with your Smaug's delight? Look, the food here is decent, even above average, but this (indoor) restaurant - place where you pay other people to prepare food for you - is infested with mosquitoes. I went with a colleague to interview a potential employee and we had to switch tables because the blood sucking vermin were really bad in the particular area where we were seated. Keep in mind, this is most definitely an indoor area. What, you ask, did our server do about this inconvenience? Well, we switched tables on our own, and informed our server of reason for moving. I think she may have raised her eyebrows a little bit, but had no response. Crickets. Sorry for the negative review...this is not my MO. But, if you have an obvious pest infestation that your customers comment on and you won't even apologize for it, much less do anything about it, I'm giving you 1 star on yelp. I wanted to love Hobbit Cafe. I really did. My husband and I came here on our first date 6 years ago and I had such fond memories. We came here for brunch on our wedding anniversary and I had been so excited to try the brunch. I got the turkey Benedict and it was SO cold I could barely enjoy it. I read so many reviews about cold food. This place holds such a special place in my heart and it was a true disappointment to come here for a celebration and have such poorly temperatures food. I literally can't think of one thing I enjoyed here. I came here for brunch with two other people. Between the three of us we ordered a pepper omelette, veggie burger and nachos. None of which were flavorful or well put together. Out of the three I would rate the veggie burger as being the best and nachos worst. It always amazes me how one can mess up nachos and yet it happens often. How hard is it to take a few extra seconds and layer your toppings instead of plopping it all on the the top? Apparently it must be. I am starting to believe that preparing nachos is a not easily acquired skill. Cambridge Brewing Company in MA should offer classes on the subject. The coffee was terrible. Two words: COCONUT PANCAKE. This was amazingly delicious! Not too sweet, perfect amount of fluffiness and thickness, and good texture. The accompanying coconut syrup was phenomenal as well. I also ordered the banana coconut smoothie. It was good though really sweet. If I ordered it again, I would request it be made less sweet. Waited 15 minutes to get drink order, waiter came to table total of 3 times in a hour (order, bring food, check). Never received sauces for tasteless food. Hobbit Cafe is definitely one of my old standbys. The food is consistently good, the service is usually good, and they certainly do have big servings. Usually on weeknights it's pretty empty and on nice evenings the patio can't be beat. Some favorites are the fish tacos (really good sauce!), all of the sandwiches are good (especially if you're an avocado fan), and the fries are to die for. We've only been for brunch a few times but the breakfast was not super memorable. One recent development is a bar over on the side of the patio which means they have a good selection of draught beers now. They also have some pretty good and reasonably priced wines. The inside ambiance is definitely lacking. You sit pretty close to other tables and the a/c struggles a bit in the Houston heat, but it definitely has charm. read more

Their Food makes the Hobbit or Elf in my case, coming back for more. Their food is awesome, the reason my group doesn't go back their after years of meeting there, is the service. I know they try, but too many incorrectly done meats and slow service decided for us to look for a different meeting place. Personally, I love their Salmon Burger and I get half brown rice and half black beans with my salmon burger. The burger is made to order and has baby lettuce and lemon dill dill dressing. They also have many fine vegetarian dishes. If you don't mind waiting a little and forgive little mistakes like over or under done burgers and meats, this would be a good place to go. Overall this is a good find nestled away along Richmond ave, and if you're a fan of the Lord of the Rings, you'll definitely appreciate it even more. The interior is decorated ala LOR, with several Hobbit photos, statues, posters, with an introduction to the Hobbit personality and lifestyle on the menu, and waiters strolling around with Hobbit t-shirts (maybe themed dressing, soundtrack to LOR to really hype the mood?). The parking is a nightmare, a pot-hole infested, uneven pavement lot with potential for fender-benders a plenty (vs. fear of getting shot). Staff were nothing that stood out, our waitress was a bit overaggressive (which I supposed trumps inattentive); they also told us "sorry, we're out of bean patties," which is an inventory no-no for the vegetarian diner. Unfortunately there were also flies swarming around our food as well (I'd like to think an added effect to feel more like a Hobbit, though I don't recall JRR Tolkien mentioning the Hobbit's penchant for flying friends in his books). I ordered the bean-patty burger originally, not in stock (ha!), so settled for the Bilbo the Magnificent which: had no cheese, bread sorta crumbled apart, veggies fresh, and way, way, WAY too much guac (jesus I had to slice out half of it and that alone dominated half of my plate, and attracted flies!). Despite this culinary faux pas, the sandwich was a splendor to the taste buds, the fries well-fried, properly seasoned, and temperature-ed. Overall, excellent beer and smoothie selection as well. So overall, great idea, but could be better executed, food is nothing to jump up and shout hoorah for, nice, very laid-back atmosphere with outdoor seating (if you can find it and don't get fall into a massive pothole in the parking lot), and many veggie options, but again, this is nothing too "preecciousssss" (sorry, bad joke). I have been here twice in the past few months. Unfortunately, they have been two very different experiences. The first time I visited, I was so impressed by their decor, and the entire feel of the restaurant. I was sat outside on a table in their front patio under a large umbrella. The weather was perfect, the patio was lovely. I ordered the salmon burger, and it was delicious! This was overall a very good experience. However, I revisited a few months later, and my second visit was less than desirable. I was greeted by the hostess, and taken through the indoor section of the restaurant. My party was taken to the back of the restaurant where we were sat by two larger parties and a table of two. The small room was incredibly crowded and loud. After being greeted by our server, 15 minutes passed until we got our drink orders. After he took our food order, we waited nearly 45 minutes before everything arrived at our table. After It did, I took one bite of my enchiladas, and the amount of salt in those things was ridiculous! I would say it is definitely a hit or miss with this place. Service is extremely sloe and the black bean burger was a little heavy with the bean and a little hard to eat because it was so squishy but the fries were really good. The mead was wonderful and the ambiance was cool. A lady brought her dog who was not used to people so it just kept barking the entire time which is kinda ok if it's a yip but this was from a golden retriever in close tight quarters. Went to the desk to put my name down and she looked up and asked "are putting your name down....?" like I was a nuisance. Then I put my name down and she didn't even say how long the wait was. Later on she cleaned a table of guests that were still there and sat people. When one of the employees informed her she said "well they can sit at the bar." Maybe she was having a bad day but someone's going to need to learn to how to deal with it in front of customers. read more
