This is by far some of the worst pizza I have ever had. I tried it out at Great Park in Irvine during Irvine's 55th Anniversary Homecoming Dance Party, and it was a huge disappointment. The reviews online were already questionable, with plenty of terrible ratings back in 2024 and 2025 and only a small handful of recent positive ones. I should have trusted my gut instinct and stayed away. Save your money because this food truck is simply not worth it. ​Honestly, store bought frozen pizza tastes better. You are genuinely better off buying a Bettergoods Italian Wood Fire Margherita Pizza from the grocery store. On top of the lack of flavor, the pizza was extremely oily. I asked the cashier if the pesto could be placed on the side, but she said no because it was part of the sauce base, assuring me it would not end up greasy. I also asked if the crust would be crunchy. It was anything but crunchy. It was completely soggy, and as you can see in the photos, the paper lining underneath was completely soaked through with oil. ​Hobo Co Pizza needs to reevaluate how they make their food. As someone who dines out most of the time, I can tell you this is far below standard. Though was a little too fluffy for my taste, but pesto and chicken tasted great overall a great experience. Great pizza! Got the pepperoni and added pineapple and jalapeño. They only had fresh jalapeño which is even better in my mind! The crust and the dough is so yummy! Thin but thick and clearly fresh. The sauce is amazing and has a great acidity to it! The people in the truck are very nice and friendly! Very well made pizza with a crust structure and taste that is above the rest. This is the closest to a brick and mortar setup. Fresh toppings and a variety that is always a good surprise. Pizzas are cranked out timely and hot. Pricing is a bit high, but what good food truck isn't. A better alternative to many other choices. Definitely a great choice. This might be the best pizza I've ever had. Our office complex in Irvine started hosting bi-weekly food trucks at lunch and Hobo Co Pizza was here the first week. Never had a pizza from a food truck but was intrigued. The lady who took my order was super friendly and we had a nice little chat while I was ordering. Took only about 10 minutes for my order to be ready and I took it back to my office. I was pleasantly greeted by a wonderful looking pizza on first glance, prepared the way I like it. Cooked perfectly with a thin crust with a nice thick, bubbly, slightly charred edge, certainly passed the visual inspection. It only got better from there, the first bite was incredible. The crust is the star of this pizza, has a nice light crisp on the outside and a perfect chew. The sauce is exceptional, both in flavor and application, not too much, not too little, just the right amount. I can confidentially say this is the best pizza to ever grace the borders of Irvine, unfortunately it's not a permanent fixture here, although I hope they come back frequently. I work in a very boring, vanilla biz park in Irvine, CA. A few times a few food trucks pop in to offer their food and most are fairly meh... I looked up the truck since it was coming to my office. The reviews seemed great and I was excited to try the pizza. I even broke my diet for it. I get up to the window and no one is there. That's fine, I want to do a last minute review of the menu anyways. I decide on the Italian Pizza and look up, there's a lady there just staring. I'm not sure if she's busy or ready to take my order and after a few seconds of blank stare she asks 'can I help you?' So I ask for the Italian and she gives me my total, runs the card and just hands the card back. No thanks you' or 'would you like a receipt?' Nothing. The pizza was okay. The radioactive green pesto was not my thing. Not sure what about the flavor had me off, but it's not like other pesto I've had. The pizza tasted like it used fresh and quality ingredients, I just don't think I liked the flavor profile. Also, the dough is probably the fluffiest I've ever had and was weird on pizza. This truck has a lot of positives. And the negatives aren't really their fault, it's just that California style "thin crust" is not thin crust...its more...idk puffy? Remember, a 4 star pizza place is an amazing grade from me so a 3 star is not a knock, it is pretty high praise. Things I like: they have a very good selection of pizzas. I'm simple with my pizza, but not everyone is, and they seem to make pizzas that kind of make everyone happy. I'm a classic pepperoni guy...but they have some unique pizzas that will keep those who (don't really know what pizza is) happy as well. The pepperoni: they get it!! The pepperoni can't be generic thun pepperoni. It needs to be from a stick, sliced thin so it curls upward!! They def do that. Things I don't like: California style pizza to me is kind of blasphemous. This isn't really thin crust pizza. It is fresh, but it I big on the back end and doughy. Thin crust should have sauce, cheese, and toppings till the end, no one wants plain crust...finish the pizza off!! Sometimes the airy dough styles makes it feel like you're eating a pastry instead of a pizza. And some of the combinations...while some may like them, are not pizza to me...just like Buffalo chicken pizza with BBQ sauce is not pizza...theyre their own things. Overall, I like this place. What is in this pizza? It's SO good. I remember the first time I had this pizza 2 years ago at Bruery terreux and I couldn't get it out of my head. I've been following their truck every since, and dream of the day I get to go back. Luckily, I was able to go back yesterday and it just reassured not only how good the pizza is, but how incredible generous and nice the employees are too. It's hard to find a solid pizza place, especially if you've eaten great pizza in New York and Boston. You want to make sure it's not too thin, not to thick, has the perfect amount of sauce (not too much), has the right type of and amount of cheese.. and hobo co truly checks off EVERY box. Their options for toppings is endless, and the toppings are just so fresh! Most places have a good selection of cheese, but I've never found spinach ricotta, and hobo has it!
