I've been jumping around optometrists for years now. If you don't have insurance or do, her prices are affordable. Her staff is friendly. I highly recommend setting an appointment before going in. She's quick and thorough. I was in and out within thirty minutes, if her appointments don't run behind. I got my eyes dilated and did a check up for both contacts and glasses. She makes you feel comfortable and at ease. It's located inside Costco but you don't have to have a Costco membership to see an eye doctor. The only down side is you have to have a membership if you want to purchase glasses or contacts. If you are looking for an optometrist, she's the one. read more

The staff at her office is incredibly friendly and accommodating. I was over an hour early and I was still seen within a reasonable amount of time. Also, I didn't have any extra contacts on me, so I was given a free pair, which was super convenient. In regards to Dr. Hofacre, she is very helpful in explaining what she's testing and why. In addition, she is kind and she didn't seem to rush the appointment at all. My husband and I both needed prescriptions, my husband, a new one, and I, my first. After doing a lot of reading of reviews online, and revisiting the office my husband had his previous prescriptions performed, we decided to look at what Costco had to offer, and opted for our chances with a walk-in with the optometrist. We were not disappointed! Dr. Hofacre was able to take us both within 15 minutes, as she was working with a previous appointment. Full battery of tests, glad to have in my case as it had been over 35 years since my last exam. Dr. Hofacre explained well everything she was doing and why, discussing all the results with me. We both walked out with prescriptions, and followed through with the frames and finalizing the order, as we had already decided upon frames we liked. BIG mention here, the frame selection my not be the biggest, but we both found something we were very happy with, and we weren't going to be paying $200 to $400 dollars per frame. Our insurance was accepted, which made for a very reasonably priced purchase for us, and then we just needed to wait until the glasses came in. Four days later, the glasses were in! Fast! My husband's prescription was great, I knew I was going to need to get used to glasses. After a week I knew that there was a problem, and went back to have them check the glasses, and the decision was I needed the prescription rechecked. Dr. Hofacre was able to take me right in, and determined that the prescription for my right eye was not what she requested, so she ran me back through the tests, and even adjusted the tests to help with right eye clarity even more. New prescription, another 4 day wait, and the new glasses were in. WOW! Definite improvement! This time the prescription nailed it! I didn't realize how much I would really want my glasses! Dr. Hofacre was fabulous, professional, and friendly, her staff friendly and efficient. We felt comfortable and having our needs taken care of so quickly made our day. I have been going to Dr. Hofacre for many years now. Even when I went to college out of state, I would come home during holidays and make appointments with her. This year she finally recommended me to get LASIK because my prescription was finally stable, and she referred me to NVISION in Fullerton. All my post-op visits are with Dr. Hofacre, and for my first appointment, she was so excited to hear that it went well. She really cares for her patients and always makes our visits go as smooth as possible. I've also never waited more than 10 minutes for my appointment. My husband called last weekend to talk to Dr. Hofacre regarding a complaint on Dr. Eric, the one who gave my daughter an eye exam in December last year. Leslie, the office manager, asked my husband to make an appointment with Dr. Hofacre for $30 for the re-exam since that doctor was gone. But my husband told her that we already did from another optometrist. She offered to give us a refund and to pick up the refund check today. When I came this morning, she rudely waved an envelope with the check inside at me. I told her I still wanted to talk to the owner to express my concerns. Without letting me finish, she said Dr. Eric was their best doctor and the owner is on vacation (despite previously telling my husband to make an appointment with her this week). I told her that Dr. Eric took less than 10 minutes, while the new doctor spent more than half an hour for my daughter's eye exam, but Leslie said the policy is only 15 minutes for one exam. I told her, "Don't you think the doctor needs to spend more time for a girl who've never worn glasses before? Also, he should not give leading questions like, 'Isn't it better? It's better, right?' and try to sell his pills (about $70 for 60 pills/bottle) during that limited time". My daughter felt dizzy and had headaches after a few months. I thought it was because of the glasses' poor quality from Cosco's Optical Department (which I had previously given a bad review for). Since her pain increased, I had her eyes checked with another doctor recently. Anyway, after I picked up the refund check, I noticed it was paid under my daughter's name instead of mine. I came back to talk to Leslie, who arrogantly told me to go to Citi Bank to cash it and pointed her finger on the check as if I couldn't read. I asked her, "Shouldn't a check be refunded to the guardian's name if the child is underage?", to which she haughtily lectured me that it's how it works for medical. I told her I have Kaiser, and they always refund to my name instead of my child's. Not only that, what if the child is only five years old? Would you still write a refund check under that child's name? So why would you need a form in which a guardian has to sign and pay if the child is underage? She then backpedaled and denied knowing about those forms. I told her as the office manager, she should know what's going on, as a child couldn't pay for themselves without a guardian. She blamed the billing department, who issued the check. After some time of arguing back and forth (more people were coming in), she eventually asked me, "How would I make you feel better, and I am sorry. Would you like to add your name to the check? Do you want the owner to give you a call?" I told her that she should have said those things from the beginning instead of giving me a hard time and being so hostile. Anyway, we won't come back. I hope the owner knows well about her office manager since she's the face of the business, and that she's not the same as Leslie. read more

Not recommended for vision exams. The prescription written by Dr. Piekarski for my son is wrong! Basically the prescriptions for right eye (OD) and left eye (OS) were written in the wrong order. Our optical budget is so much easier now, and not a burden. My wife came over here to get her contact lens exam, something really simple. Service at the beginning is great, Doctor Yang was nice and helped us get the lens. When we pay we went through VSP insurance, which is good, nothing wrong. Then we went to get contact lens, just to find out the nurse who ran my insurance ran the whole thing rather than just the eye exam or contact lens exam. I went back and forth with VSP and try to get this resolve just to find out they ran every single categories of my insurance and put a hold on them. It wasted a total of 3 weeks trying to fix this and going to Costco and not getting contact lens, and still have not been able to order contact lens. BAD Business practice, they just try to see what insurance you have and sell you unnecessary services. Will never return to this Optometrist. I even cancel laser surgery referral appointment just because they referred us. read more

I haven't been to an eye doctor for years. I came in to see Dr. Hofacre as I needed an eye exam for my FAA medical to make sure I could make 20/20 in both eyes. She brought me in and conducted several tests with new technology that provided information and images I would have never dreamed of. I ran off with a RX for glasses and filled that. Flash forward 2 weeks. With new glasses in hand I headed to FAA examiner for a class 1 commercial pilot medical exam. The FAA med examiner said I needed some.additional test to confirm some vision readings. I phoned over while in the examiners office and asked if they could fill out an FAA form. I was greeted on the phone with a "sure no problem come on in". I dropped off the paper and said there was no hurry as I didn't need the medical finished for a week or so. I received a call that afternoon and was told the Dr. That was there had filled it out and she needed to do another couple of tests. I asked if they could accommodate me at that moment and was told absolutely! I headed right over and Dr Huang brought me in and was so awesome ! Super friendly and super accommodating, and executed all the additional tests to finish my form. Their actions were above and beyond my expectations. The girls in the front we're awesome too! Class act operation all around. Competent, and definitely 5 star service. keep up the great work ! Will see you in a year ! read more

Been coming here for about 10 years now. Since it's inside Costco and the price is lower than most independent offices, it's busy. She accepts most insurance and they handle the paperwork so I don't have the hassle. The staff is friendly and very professional. Whether it's Dr. Hofacre herself or one of her associates, they are great and will patiently answer any questions. Also open on Sunday which makes it even more convenient. read more

The one I previously saw no longer worked there so I had to get contacts all over again because they wouldn't release the prescription because he was no longer there! Are you serious?! If you want to feel like you're a number or worse, this is the place for you. Not only are they rarely on time, but the time you're with an optometrist is rushed and limited. Add to the fact you rarely see the same optometrist twice makes for an inconsistent result. Don't even think about switching contact lens brands (like I tried to switch to Kirkland dailies, I was just there and already paid once) only to be told it will be another charge! I'm going back to my independent optometrist and get my personalized service back. He never charges for change of brands if within 1 year. read more

Dr. Hofacre completed my initial exam. She basically took my previous Costco order (which was from a different optometrist), made a small tweak, and claimed victory. It took about 1 week to get in a trial pair of lenses. I wore them for a week before returning for a follow up visit. The follow up was with Dr. Hoang. I explained to her that my near vision was good but my distance vision was no longer that good. She told me there were only two options - to have good near vision or to have good distance vision. I asked if there was another approach - perhaps a different brand, or maybe a different type of correction. She seemed bothered by my request and kept repeating that there was nothing else she could do. Big disappointment. I will not return to this clinic, and do not recommend it to anyone interested in good vision. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Mindy Hofacre for a couple of years now, I absolutely like this doctor, she truly takes the time to explain in great detail what she will be doing also answers all of my questions, which sometimes, are many....Eye examination was something that I never really understood, the terminology was confusing to me, (mono vision, presbyopia, multi focal, etc) she really takes the time to go over everything and make sure you understand what she is doing and why she recommends that particular approach for you....I have never felt rushed, she has excellent listening skills and shows in every way that she cares for her patients. Long story short, I love Costco optometry. They're always up-to-date on new glasses and contact lens technology and are not afraid to tell you you have bat vision. Today I visited Dr. Verret and he was great! It took less than an hour to complete as a walk-in. I have been back and forth with Costco and my old optometrist due to insurance for the last ten years. As a veteran of severe astigmatism since 9 years old, it's crucial for me to get the correct prescription. It seems I always walk out happy with Costco and frustrated with my greedy old optometrist. Read below for the full, long-winded story below. OLD Optometrist: Two weeks ago, I visited the Old optometrist, courtesy of my insurance. As a lousy, greedy man, he doesn't like to give the prescription, but I almost forgot to request it to take my business elsewhere (contacts are around $90 per eye for Rigid Gas Permeable lenses with him). If you don't ask, they won't tell. After no thought on his part, he immediately shoved his nurse to sell LASIK to me at the sound of "inquire," who had also immediately booked an appointment for me with no consideration that my vision dramatically changed recently. Due to the necessity of NVISION examining the eye's natural shape (contacts alter it with wear), I needed to go to Costco to update my glasses to wear for a week before my consultation. Rosa at optics was quite skeptical they had done that. Regardless, she went ahead and finished my glasses, which was a record 5 days later (the Old One would often take 7-10 days). When I wore the new glasses, I felt like I still was unable to see, which is NOT her fault. A week passed and I've been getting bad headaches and cross-eyed vision with these glasses. After much discussion with colleagues who got LASIK done, it seemed my eyes were not ready for it, and I should stick to contacts. I went back to Costco today to do so, but ignorant me didn't know that I needed a separate prescription for my prissy contacts (I'm pretty blind with astigmatism.. I have to be 5 inches away from your face for me to see it). When I found out that the prescription was insufficient I walked into the office to get an actual exam, and was very fortunate enough to be seen today due to the previous walk-in canceling on their visit right when I waltzed in. (...sorry.. Do I smell bad?) Anyway, they took me! Hurray! COSTCO Optometry: What can I say. I love the green and blue color coding for the contacts-- I've not mixed them up ever after Costco graciously ordered them for me in each update. Each time I've seen Dr. Hofacre-- and a few others-- I've had great vision in my contacts; sometimes at 20/15. Dr. Verret was very kind to go through and correct my lenses, in which, the Old One gave very inaccurate readings. He went on to explain how my contacts affected my eyes, what I needed to expect from LASIK, and then thoroughly, carefully, examined them. He also gave me tips on maintaining my eye health for the long run, since it seems I don't take care of it (I read a little too much). Lo-and-behold, my prescription from the Old One was incorrect by -0.75 in both eyes! He had to completely change my prescription, because the Old One was apparently drunk off whatever keeps his voice high-pitched for the day. Sorry for the ranting. Better yet, contacts are a great deal being $80 for a pair of non-disposable RGP lenses. Half the price, even including a free follow-up. In the long run, the contacts are a better investment than glasses in my case. Am I a happy camper? You bet. To sum it up, never short change your health/vision/nutrition as much as you can. You often end up spending more in the long-run to make up for shortcuts made. As someone with horrible, echolocation vision, I trust this office, which gave much better care and looked after my eye health rather than another *ahem* that wanted my money. I would rather pay the $94/than deal with the headaches I've been experiencing with "free" healthcare (...it's not free at all), on top of visiting the doctor multiple times to get it right. Time is money after all. Go to Hofacre's! Guaranteed there are a lot of people waiting with you in the tiny room, but that is your sign/proof of excellence, is it not? Make sure you make an appointment if you want to follow a strict schedule ( to prevent turn-aways or not getting done on time). However, my walk-in took an hour tops with the exam about 20 minutes long. Even when I was about to book an exam, they had plenty of slots for me to take for the next day. After shopping at Costco I realized it has been over a year and it was time for an annual check up for my eyes. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the assistants and asked if you have been there before. I didn't have any trouble with my insurance so the process was going by pretty smoothly. As soon as Dr. Hofacre was done with one appointment, she would bring in the next. As soon as I was up, I was a repeating patient, so she had seen my eyes before. Dr. Hofacre is very friendly, super easy to talk to, and you can ask any question to her regarding your eyes and she will help you to the best of her ability. read more
