My husband had the soup, I can't remember the name but one they always have, and it was so delicious. I had the tomato salad and it was perfect. The dressing served with the tomato salad was so good. I was excited to take advantage of the unlimited mussels special. I tried the coconut curry, fish camp and white wine garlic sauces. The portion was great, unfortunately, the flavor was lacking. Out of the flavors I ordered, I liked coconut curry the best. My other 8 friends seemed to enjoy their dishes. Service was ok. I left a five star review after our first few times there. But now after three more visits I have to change it. The fish and chips that were so good have been off-tasting the last couple of times. And the chips have been soggy because they put the fish on top of it. Furthermore, the last time we were there, our server who was excellent, misunderstood and brought us one order each of two different kinds of peel and eat shrimp. My Husband didn't want to say anything so we just had to suck it up and pay for it. Which that is our fault for not mentioning anything, but the one variety tasted like chemicals. It was so bad neither of us could even eat one whole one out of the batch. This does not mean that I'm writing the place off, because even at that last meal that was so disappointing, another couple who was with us loved their meals. I will go again, and I will get one of those probably. Because the service there is really great and our first few visits were stellar. Definitely a five star experience and we will be back. Parking in the lot in front is quite small, but there is a lot of parking around the area that's free. On the website they list out parking lots, so I would recommend checking that out. We ended up parking at a parking garage that was a couple minutes walk from the restaurant. Also, pro tip thanks Yelp, they do accept reservations. You have to look on OpenTable, though, I don't feel like I saw it on their website. We were there at 7 PM on Saturday and even without a reservation we would've gotten a table. However, it is on the smaller side if you want to sit inside, they do have a back patio. I saw a reserve sign on our table, so they definitely honor Reservations. I got hogarita which is their version of a margarita. It was good. My husband got an old-fashioned and liked it. The food is where this place really shines. I got hogfish grilled with their veggie of the day and key lime slaw. My husband got their salmon grilled with veggie of the day and hush puppies. The hush puppies are exceptional. I usually avoid carbs and I'm sure this one is really bad for you, but it was absolutely delicious. My husband, who normally isn't a huge fish eater liked his salmon. We both agreed, though that my hog fish was better. The hog fish was flaky and tender, a very mild tasting fish, but absolutely amazing. 10 out of 10 on this dish. This place is pretty casual, it feels very down to earth with really good food. Maybe it was an off night but this meal was awful. Probably one of the worst Ive had in a long time. Red Lobster would've been better. Service was mediocre - very rushed and we felt like a burden. Our server was Matt. Sangria was disgusting. I couldnt even drink. We ordered 4 large stone crab claws and they were okay, overpriced. I then got the mussels which were gross, muscles were incredibly salty and broth tasted like watered down coconut milk, hardly any flavor. I saw one waiter bring out a candle and piece of pie for a birthday and I asked if they did anything for birthdays and he said no, but happy birthday. Great service and great food! The fish is smoked and the dip made right on premises. Even though every fisherman and restaurant has their own secret recipe they consider the best, this version was very good. The Local Salad and Bay Bottom chowder were wonderful. Been a while since we had good seafood, so chose Hog Island to burst that bubble. We were seated quickly despite not having reservations. It was busy, but not overly loud. I ordered the Salt and Pepper Catfish, and SO GLAD I did! The fish was perfectly seasoned and super melt in your mouth tender, with a great flavor. I was thankful for the huge portion, cause I had enough to take home for lunch the next day! The fries were a hefty portion as well. A bit greasy for my taste, as I prefer crispy, but they had a good, fresh flavor. The Cole slaw was unique with a lime background that hit right to offset the other flavors. Our server was super friendly and helpful, despite being busy. I ended up leaving my CC, which I discovered the next day, but the Manager had it safely stored and ready for me to pick up. We kicked things off with a red sangria and grouper nuggets, which were absolutely delicious. For our first round of mussels, I chose the white wine sauce while my husband went with the coconut curry. Both flavors were fantastic and we really enjoyed them. Our only suggestion is the mussels could be better if they were tossed in the sauce rather than having the sauce just pooled at the bottom of the bowl. They were a bit dry as a result. We almost didn't go to Hog Island because of a few bad reviews, and I'm so glad we only considered the good ones and went ahead for dinner. We had an excellent meal: oysters and fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, grilled hog fish, and salt and pepper fried grouper for entrees, with an extra side of hush puppies, and the blackberry lemonade pie for dessert. Each course was just as good as the last and we were super happy with our choices. Our server was attentive and pleasant, and we enjoyed her. The artwork on the walls, done locally, is beautiful and I spent a portion of our meal trying to convince my husband we needed to buy some of it :) We will certainly be back. read more

Came here for the first time today!! Happy hour is from 2pm -6pm 7 days a week. How exciting because we caught it today. The happy hour appetizers are smaller inside but we loved because it allowed us to try more without wasting money on food we couldn't eat. My husband and i had the peel and eat shrimp. It came with 5 shrimp for $6 - what a deal. He loved it. Said it was really fresh. We also got the chicken goat cheese dip and the smoked fish dip. All small portions but again expected. We loved it all. I also had a Hog Rita- essentially a normal margarita but was also nicely priced. We sat outdoors and the ambiance was very nice. Cool with the covered patio and fans. My husband started out with a craft beer (nice craft selection, and half price thanks to happy hour) and I got a dirty vodka martini which was perfect. His meal was salt & pepper fried oysters and he upgraded from fries and key lime slaw to a side salad (sorry, no pic) and collard greens. I wanted the hogfish and asked the server for her suggestion on how to have it cooked. She suggested I have it broiled with the panko and parmesan crust, which turned out to be great advice. Had the garlic mashed potatoes and buttered grilled broccoli as my sides. Both meals were perfect, with very generous helpings. Fish and chips were reasonably priced and the quality reflected it, you get what you pay for right. The mussels also moderately priced so again you get what you pay for. This is by far the worst restaurant experience I've had in Dunedin! We had reservations, they called about an hour before to tell us they may not be able to accommodate us because they put us outside and there was rain in the forecast. We rushed over, realizing on a festival Saturday we probably wouldn't get anywhere else.We appreciated that they accommodate us. We sat out back, on the patio in scorching sun. I highly recommend that you invest in umbrellas or a sail. I can't believe you don't already have one. I cannot recall any other restaurant in Florida not having at least umbrellas to shade patrons from the blazing Florida sun. The waitress was very attentive, there was a significant delay with the food coming out. We ended up getting appetizers, salad and entrees within minutes of each other. I had the crab encrusted grouper, it was tiny, dry, and bland. My husband had the grouper sandwich. We usually get grouper, these were by far the worst we've ever had served to us! The salad was good, these hush puppies had no flavor and were very dry. My niece had the chicken breast, she said it had no flavor. We had "calamari" with no rings, only chunks of breading and steamed clams that had no seasoning. Our portion of the check was $130 and was the worst meal out in years. read more
