Not bad, but very deceiving to come back to my hometown and find out the shop has completely changed and isn't the same shop even though it has the same name. Glad she opened her own shop as I hated listening to the constant yammering of the other barbers in here. I tried getting a hair cut there and during my haircut (and this is the first time this happened) my barber SNEEZED! He froze and laughed. When I got home, little did I know that that sneeze messed up my hair, causing my hair on top to be uneven. So I called and told them what happened and asked if they can fix my hair. The lady who answered LAUGHED, as if it was my fault. When I went in there, they all looked and started laughing at me. I felt so bad walking in, I just wanted to leave. Been coming here since lockdowns lifted in the area. Different barbers have good cuts so I come back to them. Today I grabbed my ticket number (35) and went to grab some lunch. There were about six to seven people waiting and about five barbers. Each barber had a seat filled so it was going to be a wait. I left, grabbed food and came back within 35-40 minutes. Just as I sat down they called my number 35. I walked up and showed the blonde barber. She looked at me and said if I picked the number up from the counter, as if it was left from someone else. I shook my head and pointed to the ticket roll and said I got it from there. She ripped a new ticket (41) and handed to me. I stood there and handed the ticket to her because I didn't want to wait and my number was already called. She pointed to the chair for me to wait. I sat down and saw the whole room of people looking at me. I went on my phone and found a barber down the street that was about the same price. I left and won't be coming back. read more

This shop is a good find. They have a good waiting system and good work ethics. Most stylists in the shop I have tried are good. The one star deducted is for the sanitization practices, I have never seen anyone sanitize the clippers, shears, etc. I believe as per license training, one is supposed to sanitize the equipment after every customer. Anyways it is what it is. Even the expensive ones don't do it unless asked. Please ask them to sanitize clippers and shears before starting. I went to this shop a few times because it is close to my house and it is cheap. The first few times I went it was fine. Then the problems started, a few complaints: One of the women decided it would be nice to shave whatever baby hairs may have been on my ear! They constantly talk speak in Vietnamese about the customers which is a bad feeling. Lastly they had a new younger Asian make barber, when I asked for a low fade he BUTCHERED my hair. I even showed him the low fade picture! I mean the haircut he gave was so bad my legally blind aunt asked me what happened to me. I told the main woman look what your guy did, and showed her the picture I asked for she didn't even apologize. She offered a free but but out of pride I don't take things for free. Horrible! This is the best barbershop near the Camp Parks location. Not too many barbers in the area who can cut African American hair styles. To get the best African American cuts go to the first two chairs on the right when you walk in. The other barbers do a very nice job with all other hair styles and my friends were completely happy with their haircuts. The staff was very pleasant and the environment was relaxing. You may even get to get a quick neck and shoulder rub after your haircut. Nice prices and professional staff will make you want to come back do more haircuts. read more

Just came in here as it was close to where we were today and haircuts were needed for my husband and 4 year old son. There were roughly 8 people ahead of us and 6 ladies cutting, shaving, trimming etc. Just watching the level of concentration that the ladies gave to each of the haircuts they were working on was fascinating. It was about a 40 minute wait. My son's cut took around 20 minutes and only cost $10 and it was fabulous. The edges were sharp, the top was cut neatly and he loved getting it gelled at the end. I have only ever got a cut for him this good, that took that long and it cost my $35 (most other places it is over in 5 minutes, costs more and is terrible). My husbands took a long time too and he was very pleased with it at only $12. This is nowhere near where we live, but I will be bringing my son back here again and again. Fabulous. read more

Just be aware, the language barrier here prevents for necessary conversation between barber and client. I'm used to guys/gals who understand what I mean when I ask for a blended fade or tapered sides but meaningful dialogue was reduced to simple numbers like "2 on top and 0 on sides?". I settled for that and came out with a very jagged cut, sort of like a staircase. But I knew this coming into a $12 haircut, so it's my fault for going against my conscious. You get what you pay for here at the Hog. It's one step up from a military barber. No sanitation as the same razor and trimmers just get a brush off from the last guy. The electric razors are dull and so is the straight edge which was cleaned with just an old towel. Staff seems like an assembly line with zero personality so take a number and get on the train. Some of the staff need to look more professional as well as not wear sandals. Floor was nasty with hair and so was their feet with hair trimmings of all the guys before you. I wanted the experience to be over and prayed my haircut would look ok when done. This place caters to a those on a budget as well who don't care about cleanliness. Old fashioned barber shop (women cutters). Very cordial, competent and effective. I came here w/one of those Safeway coupons ($9.99, $12.99 w/out coupon) and I am impressed. It took me all of 1/2 hour for a cut (and a neck-shave, very impressive). They even give you a head/neck massage. They razor-cut the back of your neck (with a straight-edge razor). I haven't had one of these in decades. It was (abnormally) busy, so the wait was about 45 minutes. Par for the amount of guys waiting. My cutter was competent, cordial (without being too chatty) and very accommodating (I'm mostly bald but I do like getting my eyebrows done and having all of the top "stragglers" removed too). She did all of this with ease. One of the best hair-cutters I have ever had, delivering one of the best haircuts I have ever had. They are very reasonably priced for what you get, even without the coupon. If you don't have very fancy needs, this is a go to place. See you next time. read more

The place has gone downhill, three bad haircuts in a row have put me off. They usually do fine with the fade, but the top is always an issue. There's always a wait, so it seems like their success has gone to their heads. The girls gossip about the customers constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY. It's so bad, I tried running Google translate on my phone while I sat in the chair and planned to see what they were saying after, but the music and background noise is too loud. I take my two boys (age 4, 8) here for their haircut. $10 for boys cut unless you want a certain style like requesting a "Mohawk" or one of their numbered picture styles. Then it's $12. Like previous reviewers said, it helps to know the number of the buzzer to tell them and don't be too picky and request too many details. Otherwise, it's quick and efficient and gets the job done. Depending on the stylist, haircut can look awesome or just ok. Don't attempt longer stylish cuts. They do short fade buzz cuts. read more

I'm happy to announce Hog's Breath Barber shop has reopened for business! Their currents hours are 9am-6:30pm (last customer at 6pm) Mon-Fri. A couple of items to note: 1. Hair cuts are outside under the building's awning. 2. They are adhering to safety measures including face shields, masks, wiping down chairs and wearing gloves. I am a germaphobe so it pleases me that they take the precautions seriously. You need to wear a mask too during your haircut outside, preferably one that has straps around the ears. 3. They prefer appointments so please call in to lock in a time. They will take walk ins if available and you just leave your phone number so they can call when ready if the wait is a bit longer. 4. Hair cuts have gone up a little bit which is understandable and still the best deal I know of for the type of haircut you can get. 4. Lastly, I've been going to them since they took over the business many years ago. They all work hard so please treat them with respect and patience. Don't get annoyed as we are all trying our best to get through a difficult situation. This pandemic has made me appreciate hair cuts more than ever and I for one don't want to have to go back to cutting my own hair. Where do I begin, if I can give this place -5 stars I would. My regular barber has been out of the country for some time and she will not return until mid July. I found this place because of the yelp reviews. At my first visit, the place was crowded so I thought that they give decent haircut, and apparently what the most attractive part was the $12 for the regular haircut. While waiting for my haircut I observed many of the barbers who were using straight razors which is an oddity nowadays because of all the communicable diseases. As I sat in the chair for my first cut, I asked my barber, Amy how they disinfected the razors and she gave attitude as if I knew what they did and then explained with an attitude. During my second and third visit I observed some concerning things. I have to agree with a previous review regarding their sanitation practices. My last two visits, most recently today have been very disappointing. As you wait for your haircut, please observe the many barbers not cleaning their tools and using the same combs, and not spraying the razors with disinfectant spray which is required by not only their cosmetology school where their certified, but also by the health department. Today I went with Amy again, stupid me, bcuz of great reviews. I asked her if she was going to disinfect the clippers that I witness her use on someone 30 seconds before me and she gave me an attitude and began to spray the clippers on multiple occasions as she was cutting my hair shooting the spray towards my back. I grew up going to an old-school barber shop on the that was owned by bunch of Old crusty guys and marking fun of the customers was commonplace and enjoyable, but at least they sanitized all of their equipment after each use, not like this place. I want to make it clear, I am not a germaphobe so I challenge everyone that visits these barbers to be a little bit more observant between customers and see if all of the barbers or at least the one they chose is disinfecting their equipment, which includes clippers, combs, and getting new towels. I got my hair cut by some guy who's supposedly getting married in Vietnam soon. first, he does a terrible job but I figured it was okay since my hair grows back fast and it was relatively cheap. Second, he cuts the back of my head with the razor, sees that I didn't notice, and just wipes it off pretending nothing happened. We all need to stay away from this place. Last when I went there, I noticed that they were using old razor blade to shave their customers' neck and sideburns. When it was my turn, I brought it to her attention in the most polite way possible. She denied and said they changed it for every customer and she emphasized that they brought those blades from Vietnam and it cost them few cents. I honestly felt that I made a mistake and had missed it when she changed the blade. This time, I watched them very closely, and sure enough none of them changed the blades for any of those 4 customers that I witnessed. When it was my turn, again I asked her about the blade and again she denied. It seems they dont understand the danger of blood born disease like Hepatitis, HIV, etc. I am going to report them and I WILL NOT go there again. It is cheap but your life will be in danger too. read more
