I've been a fan of Hola Seoul for a while now but recently I've become obsessed! The fried chicken wings are just so perfect. The soy glaze is more of a lacquer on the coating, rather than a penetrating sauce, so the skin stays extra light and crispy, even a day later. I've always been a fan of their tacos but I've recently been going for the bulgogi cup bap. It's the best of all worlds! Rice, some glass noodles, lettuce, and fries, all topped with shaved marinated steak and a drizzle of a spicy mayo. It makes a great meal on it's own, to split, or to enjoy a bit alongside some of the chicken wings (my go to approach). Perfect for a couple of meals! My husband recently started going for the bulgogi bento box which he also loves. It's a hearty portion of bulgogi and white rice with a side salad with ginger dressing and two fried dumplings. Another visit here! The food is great enough that I keep coming back. This time, I got the popcorn chicken (soy garlic), which I am a big fan of! I do like this better than the boneless thighs. I feel like it is easier to eat, and I really enjoy the crispiness of it all. I recommend making your own side of rice to eat with the chicken! The chicken can be quite heavy by itself, so having the rice offsets it nicely. Buying a side of rice there is $2 which seems a lot for a small portion. The regular fries are decent, not as crispy as I'd like them to be. Kind of pricy for $4. I don't think I'd get it again. Overall, I know I will be back again in the future. I had the spicy pork cupbop and the honey nut pancake for lunch. The spicy pork cupbop is a bowl with really delicious spicy pork on top of three kinds of carbs: rice, noodles, and fries. Very tasty and a large portion. The Honey Nut Pancake was a sweet pancake stuffed with nuts and honey and drizzled with chocolate. It satisfies a sweet tooth without being too sweet. So, it ain't Seoul Street (RIP the Korean fried chicken joint that has no equal), but it's pretty damn good. Staff was friendly, the food came out in minutes. I got the small chicken thighs with soy garlic, and the batter was crispy with juicy meat inside. My family and I ordered a bunch of food for delivery from Hola Seoul recently, and I loved it! They offer Korean fried chicken, bibimbap, dosirak boxes, shareables, and Korean bbq tacos. We tried the popcorn chicken, fried chicken thighs, beef bibimbap, deep fried dumplings, and the kimchi fries. Everything was packaged nicely and fresh. The fried chicken was super crispy and the sauces were delicious! We got the soy garlic and hot and spicy sauces. The hot and spicy didn't seem very spicy, but had good flavor. The soy garlic is a good choice and the kids liked it. I particularly enjoyed the popcorn chicken - with all the mentions in the Yelp reviews, I figured we couldn't go wrong ordering that. The bibimbap was nicely presented with veggies, egg, and sauce - the amount of meat was a little sparse but we had plenty of other food to share. My favorite item was definitely the kimchi fries - yum! Fries are topped with bacon, sausage, sautéed kimchi, cheddar, sour cream, and spicy mayo. The spicy mayo was a little spicy but I loved it. These were so tasty and I'd definitely order them again. Next time I'd get the popcorn chicken, kimchi fries, and probably a couple of tacos to share. Honestly one of the best places to get food from when visiting Ann Arbor for an affordable bite! Right by UofM, it's a popular lunch spot for students. You can usually find a few here studying while eating lunch. It's relatively quiet here and it's a small shop with a bit of seating but it's better as takeout. The korean chicken burger (soy garlic / spicy) was really tasty. Perfectly fried with a delicious coating of sauce. It was delicious bite after delicious bite. The buns were toasted as well. For $8, it was really worth. The kimchi fries were also crispy and hot. Kimchi was okay and the sausage/hotdog was also pretty good and flavorful. Cheese was half melted but it was fine, no cheese pulls expected. For $11, I don't think it's worth but to try it once, it was okay. It was good at least. I can see why this is a popular choice, but I thought the marinade on the meat was a bit too sweet for my taste. I probably wouldn't get it again. The slaw and sambal aioli were nice touches, but a taco for $3.50 is too much. * Spicy Pork Taco: I liked this one better because it's not overly sweet, but the meat was pretty unmemorable. The menu looks so interesting that I keep trying the food and it is so consistently bland. Even the bulgogi has almost zero taste. The cheese corn was the best thing we ordered and it is literally just cheese melted on a plate of corn. Our waiter was also not helpful and seemed rushed and annoyed we were there. Food was pretty good, and pretty reasonably priced compared to other places in Ann Arbor I've visited so far. The small size for popcorn chicken was $12 and was decently sized. We got the soy garlic and hot & spicy flavored popcorn chicken, but we preferred the soy garlic because it seemed to be less sweet. We also got the duk-bok-ki (also around $12) and there were mixed reviews from our crowd. I thought it was pretty good, because the last duk-bok-ki I had was way too sweet and not that spicy. But my friends felt like this one wasn't sweet enough. Maybe I've just never had good duk-bok-ki, but I thought this one was alright. This is another heart breaker. The Novi location is not actually called Hola Seoul for one, so if you place your order online, good luck because it ain't going through. Now for the Ann Arbor location. Full disclosure, both locations have delicious food. Outstanding. However, there are serious flaws that make patronizing this business something you should definitely think twice about. I ordered food through delivery and it arrived...1/4 mile away and was left in a field. The driver then took a picture and uploaded it to confirm delivery. Who were you delivering to? A squirrel? A bum? Why would any adult with an IQ over 10 think this was acceptable? If this is how you'll do a delivery, what else are you doing? Serving old food or food that was on the floor? It took a week to get a refund. I will never go back to the Ann Arbor location. Just avoid this place like the clap. I'm dead serious. Watch them prepare your food or you run the risks associated with incompetent individuals. read more

Say Hola Seoul and you may just say hello to a new fusion favorite! Eager to try a new restaurant, a friend and I decided to check the place out for a recent weekend lunch. We met right when the doors opened at 12 and had our pick of what to eat and where to sit. Anticipating some other friends joining us, I ordered the kimchi fries and the fried dumplings to share. She went with the Bibimbap. We grabbed some seats and shortly afterwards our food arrived. The kimchi fries are a must-order item: crispy potatoes smothered in toppings and spicy kimchi make the perfect appetizer to share (or entree if you don't feel like sharing!) The dumplings were good, but I will probably try a different appetizer next time. My friend's Bibimbap looked delicious -- and huge! It's easily shareable with one other person. She ended up taking half of it home for a later meal, with the restaurant providing take-home boxes to facilitate. Came here at first on a Sunday at 12pm and they were closed LOL even though on their menu it says open on Sundays. I came here again a week later because I really wanted to try this place out. I got their kimchi fries, bulgogi beef taco, fish taco, and half and half wings and drums. The main star was the beef taco-- it was so tasty, I would definitely go back just to get this taco. The fish taco was underwhelming especially because it had such high expectations from the other reviews. The fish was fried, so i expected the breading to be crispy, but it was so soggy. The kimchi fries were also soggy; definitely pass on the fries--Seoul Street has way better kimchi fries. The fried chicken was pretty good! The half and half flavor kind of tastes like Taiwanese Popcorn chicken. The drums were kind of dry, but the wings were great. I would definitely recommend getting the wings and skipping the drums. The service was super fast. It only took like 15 min for them to finish my order in comparison to Seoul Street which takes ~30 min for a similar order. Located across from MaMa Sotto (the space used to be the extended dining area of sushi.com before they split and changed the name), this new fusion joint recently opened up. I heard about this place from my nephew and while in downtown for errands, decided to stop by. The place was dead, as expected as it was past 2pm in the afternoon. I asked how long it would take to make one of each tacos. He thought I was joking and repeated my question... and I told him yes, I want one of each taco! He asked me if I wanted to try kimchi fries, so I said yes - total bill around $33. Bulgogi // Pork // Chicken // Tofu // Shrimp // Fish // Kimchi Taco (not on the menu) Was I blown away? No. The tacos were decent. You can't find the fuisonized Korean tacos in Michigan, so it's unique to the area, you'll need to go to Chicago or LA to get them, but it's worth trying. Tacos - all the tacos are served with "napa slaw", but that's misleading as it's not napa, but leaf lettuce and with pickled red onions. The slaw is very light on flavor, very bland and they can use more sourness on the picked onion and in fact, they could add more to each taco. The spicy mayo was decent. Tofu is battered in some kind of starch, deep fried and served with carrot salad dressing you get with your salad when you order sushi. All the proteins were good, the favorite had to the the tempura shrimp and fish. If you don't like the fermented kimchi taste and the smell, skip the kimchi taco and kimchi fries. Kimchi Fries - it was okay, had better kimchi fries. Overall, the tacos were decent, nothing special or homerun products. The chicken looked amazing and texture wise it was perfect - a good crunch while being super juice and tender inside. It was just missing some flavor. I'm also unclear if half the wings are soy garlic and half are spicy or if the sauce they come in is half soy/half spicy. But I didn't taste much in any of them so I guess it doesn't matter. The dumplings were also just okay. I left with that weird mood of not having been satisfied but also not hungry enough to go get something else. Maybe the tacos are where it's at? The place is very casual and it has a street vendor vibe. There is "outside" seating from the restaurant. Service: The service is pretty good. How it is set up is you order your food you get a number and the server gives you the food. Food/price: The food is overall really solid. I got the kimchi and bulgogi tacos and they were both $2 each. I got really full from just one taco (disclaimer- I wasn't as hungry when I went to the restaurant). My roommate got the bento box and she said it was filling and quality home cooked food. We both got boxes and finished it for dinner. Audience: Literally for anyone! Recommend/tips? My husband kept saying that he's pretty full but he couldn't stop eating the chicken. He's full because of the Tacos, he liked chicken and bulgogi the most. Sometimes, you come to a location and unsure what they're exactly trying to go over. There's too much going on, and rather than focusing on a specific focus, they're trying to be everything and nothing at once. That's the initial impression you'll get when you come to Hola Seoul. From Bento boxes to Korean Fried Chicken to Korean-inspired tacos, the menu kinda leaves you confused but also overwhelmed. Here's what I'll say though: the food is good. Biggest surprise of the meal: Kimchi Fries Most Kimchi fries are usually pretty underwhelming because the ratio isn't right. Either you have a ton of fries with some Kimchi garnish, or they put so much Kimchi on that the fries are somewhat soggy. That's not the case here. They've found the perfect ratio. The fries are crispy, but with every bite, you have the perfect amount of kimchi (+sausage & bacon!) to go along with it. There's something about these fries that will literally surprise your mouth. (I will warn, however, that the kimchi was pretty fermented, so if you aren't used to do that, it'll be tough to eat). Most worth for the college student: the korean fried chicken i'm saying that this is the most worth because it's not as easy to make at home and it's reasonably priced ($30--large split between 3 people) Being from the bay area, I've had my fair share of good korean fried chicken (e.g. Bonchon, Von's, and OB) Let me just say this: this chicken matches or is better than those west coast chains. The skin is extremely crispy, double-fried, and the sauces were evenly coated. The Garlic soy was not too sweet, and the Spicy Sauce brought some heat without burning you alive. If you're looking to drop $10 for some CRISPY, authentic korean-style wings, look no further than here. Biggest "eh" of the meal: the tacos We tried the bulgogi, spicy pork, fish, and shrimp tacos, and while they were delicious, I do want to comment on things that might be improved. For the bulgogi and spicy pork, there needs to be more acid to cut the sweet marination. Also, the meat was finely diced, so while it was easier to eat, I prefer strips for the texture. (this is more of a preference thing though) The fish tacos were arguably the best, but they also do cost an extra dollar. The most improvement can be on the tortillas. That's what holds the tacos together, and while I eat store-bought tortillas all the time, having home-made or fresh tortillas can elevate Hola Seoul's taco game to the next level. read more

Absolutely excellent takeout. Insane portions for the price. I've gotten takeout here twice already in the short time I've been in Ann Arbor (a little more than a month). The absolute star of the show is the popcorn chicken. It's a definite must have. The popcorn chicken has amazing crispy goodness, with a huge punch of flavor with every bite. The box is filled to the brim, an absolute steal for the price - $9 for "small", $17 for medium. With the amount of food you get more, small is more like large and medium is jumbo. I can't even imagine what the large order is like. The fried wings are also good, same exact flavoring, but for the convenience of boneless and huge portions the popcorn chicken trumps all. The other menu items I've had were also very good. The tacos in particular are amazing, a good blend of flavor in each bite. The bento boxes are pretty good, they're my fiancee's favorite. The bibimbap is decent, but it doesn't translate well to take out. The only item I'm not a fan of is the dumplings. A bit doughy and dry. read more

I hope to update my experience at hola Seoul soon, but the one time I stopped in I experienced slow (and somewhat confusing) service and mediocre food. I waited 20+ minutes just for their new chicken sandwich. It was super crowded in there, and the back of the house didn't look too clean. The actual chicken sandwich was way overloaded with lettuce . The chicken itself was tiny (not even visible at first sight) and the chicken was stringy. I hear Hola Seoul has great regular fried chicken, but I have yet to experience it.
