By far the worst experience on buying glasses! Also, they have a horrible customer service. When I picked my lenses, they said that I will receive my glasses in 10 days, however, I didn't receive them within that time. Then I tried to call them after three weeks, however, they put me on hold three times, each more than 10-15 minutes. And finally, when I talked to them, they shipped me a wrong pair of glasses. I had never heard of this place, but I was due for an eye exam, so when I was strolling through the mall and spotted their sign that they took VSP, I decided to stop in. Now, I had been trying for over a month to get an appointment with one of my local optometrists (I live over the hill in Santa Cruz), and all of them REALLY don't seem to want to have customers. Bizarre hours, etc. Anyway, upon walking in, I was greeted within about 2-3 minutes, and the girls there politely asked if I had any questions, etc. I asked if they had any appointments available for walk-in. They quickly checked the system, and confirmed that they had one at 5:30pm available (it was about 5:00pm then). I decided to jump on it, to get my eye exam taken care of while I had an open and clear chance. I looked around at frames in the meantime, and actually was called in about 15 minutes early. The doctor (I don't remember her name, unfortunately) was very polite and made me feel very welcome. I've been having eye exams since I was 6, so it's nothing new to me, but it's still nice to have a welcoming doctor. She proceeded through the exam, making it easy and efficient. Once I was done, I already knew which frames I wanted and sat down to go over the various options. 1 Anti-glare coating and 1 transitions option later, I had my glasses ready to be made. The price was VERY good (mostly due to the fact I have VSP and their frames weren't THAT pricey), and I'm looking forward to being able to pick them up. I'll update the review to include a note on how their craftsmanship is once I get my glasses. All in all, I had a VERY good experience, and will most definitely return here next year for my next annual visit. :) read more

I had a really discouraging first experience doing business here. First, I would like to point out that the initial eye exam was great. The doctor was friendly and thorough. More Positives: This place has a lot of really great frames. Most of them are designer and the styles seem frequently updated. The ladies working in the front were helpful and engaging. When it came time to choose frames, I ran into some issues. After choosing a pair of frames I liked, I began the process of ordering them with an associate. The process SEEMED pretty thorough and quick. I was assured my glasses would be ready in 10 business days. I had to pay up front. 10 business days go by, and I receive a phone call that my frames are ready. After waiting for an associate to help me, I am finally sat down and my glasses are taken out of the case. They are NOT the frames I ordered. Instead of the cool, stylish ones I carefully picked out, I was being shown the ugliest pair of 70s hockey coach eye glasses out there. They ordered the wrong frame with my prescription. After telling the staff that these were not what I ordered, they admitted that there was a mix up and that they would re-order the correct frames. They offered to lend me the UGLY frames until mine arrived and I laughed at the worker and said "No thanks". The worker told me my frames would arrive in another 10 business days and I tried asking if they could rush order the frames because I had to leave the area in 5 days. The staff agreed to rush order. "OK. Mistakes happen." I thought. 2 days pass....5 days pass.... 8 days pass... 10 days pass... No call or anything from the optometrist office on the status of my frames. Finally, I call the office to see the status and the associate tells me, "Oh, yes! Your correct style frames are in.....BUT.... we ordered a different color than the one you requested because the color you requested was sold out and put on backorder." Are you kidding me??? I just needed some glasses so I agreed to come pick up the frames and made a comment (half-joke, half-serious), "As long as theyre not pink, I'll be okay with them." I arrive to pick up the frames and look at the color..... PURPLE frames with PINK borders. The color I ordered, mind you, were black and green. I said F it, and took them, and agreed to wait for the other frames. WORST freakin' experience as a first-time customer. It took a month to receive the WRONG frames.... I went to Dr Holbert back in 2010 for an eye exam and some prescription sunglasses. My experience with the appointment and eye exam side of things went reasonably well. The Dr was nice and seemed to perform a good eye exam and I would recommend this place based on that alone. However, my experience working with the front staff to purchase frames, lenses, etc. disappointed me, on more than one occasion. I found the staff to be rather unfriendly, not particularly helpful, and not disclosing important information about the lenses I was interested in. They made a mistake on my prescription sunglasses because they didn't properly explain the lens options, which they did later correct after I took delivery. On a second drop by visit I was disappointed with how the staff treated me. I simply wanted to purchase a new set of sunglasses w/out having an eye exam. This time they were even less helpful and didn't even bother come out from behind their desk, but rather went about their business as I fumbled about the showroom looking for sunglasses. One woman also continually scowled at my wife and 2 yr old who were trying on some display glasses (in an orderly fashion mind you). In the end I just walked out, I'm sure they didn't even notice. I wouldn't come back here. I've decided. They have this really annoying hold music, that also has their own commercials saying how they want your experience to be the best, they really value their customers and want to prioritize each person as much as possible. All of that seems to be a lie. I ordered my glassed back on January 27th. I still don't have them. I've called 2x trying to figure out where they were. They told me next week, so I called next week. Then they told me a whole 'nother week. So Feb 16th is when I'm SUPPOSED to have them. Whether that actually happens is a mystery to me. I believe I spoke with the actual doctor, and she told me the frames I ordered take longer because I asked for a specific color (black). Shouldn't they know that when they order them? And why does the color matter - instead of blaming me for my choice, maybe take ownership of the fact that you were wrong! They told me two weeks initially. And now they're telling me another week. So 3 weeks. Ridiculous. Get your shit together. I don't care if it was going to take 3 weeks in the beginning. At least I'd know. But the fact that I've called on my own after them does not set a good precedent, nor does the fact that their initial information was wrong. Never going back. read more

Friendly staff, large collection of glasses to choose from and convenient hours of operation. I've been coming here for 10 years now (mainly due to habit) and will continue to come back. I like that you receive post cards as a reminder to set up your next appointment and for the friendly staff. You can also request which optometrist you'd like to see. I recommend Linda Kuo, she's really friendly and it seems like she doesn't rush you during your appointment. Only negative thing about this place is that when your glasses are ready for pick up they never seem to call you when they are ready. Half the time I have to call them to get an update on my glasses. read more

I think this place would - all else equal - be pretty on par with any other eye place but the service I've been shown has really differentiated them for me. I came here for my first eye exam in a long time. The doctor was professional and seemed knowledgable. My eye sight is great but she recommended glasses for reading. At first, being cynical, I figured they just wanted the money but my insurance covered most of the glasses so I thought why not. I have to admit I was wrong and the prescription she gave me was perfect. I didn't realize that when reading the words were not clear and I was straining my eyes. Anyway, about the place. The women at the desk are friendly. I wouldn't expect them to be overly warm and they're not. They're professional and polite. Unintentionally, I ended up being a difficult customer. It's a long story but I ordered a pair of glasses and then changed my mind about them and tried to change the order before the original glasses were made but I was too late. Then, I had some fit issues. Anyway, each time I've gone in there I have been treated respectfully and they've been really accomodating. True, they've been a little less enthused to see me in there every additional time I've come back but that's to be expected. But, I'm joking really. The glasses selection is pretty good. I would recommend steering clear of this Posh Mall Dr. The staff is usally unorganized. They always try to push you to buy your lenses from them (you dont have to) and if you dont buy from them you are automatically given the treatment of a 'mere peasant.' I was trying to have an eye irritation diagnosed for several months. I tried about 6 different lenses and still had horrible red eyes. they wrote a prescription and told me "dont use it too much. youll get addicted. it wont fix your problem but it will make the red go away" o great- so i still have a condition that you are going to mask with a steroid eye drop!! i think not when i told them i did not want to go this route they told me i would have to wear glasses only - no contact lenses. WTF so i looked for another opinion and my new Dr was able to diagnose me on my first visit and get me on the right lenses!! additionally, my new Dr does ALL the recommended test... Holbert NEVER did anything other then rush me in and out and try to get as much money out of me as possible. I will not be going back and will not recommend this place again. I went in to get new glasses as mine had broken. The doctor asked about contacts to which I told him I would like to make sure the prescription would be for both even though I didn't need contacts at the moment since my prescription didn't change much and I was really only in because my glasses broke. Fast forward 8 months. I go in to inquire about contacts. I'm told that's it's been too long and I'll need another appointment. I mention that it's been less than a year, and they pull my file and tell me that my original appointment only covered eye glasses. What's more my insurance won't cover another appointment until it's been a full year. That is the reason I came in in the first place! I was originally told it would cover both and to come back when I needed the contacts. I know that contact prescriptions are only good for a year and I usually re stock before my prescription expires. A huge waste of time and my one annual checkup I get from my insurance. I came here to get my eyes checked and get a vision test. The receptionist was nice. I filled out some paperwork and then I was taken into the back for the test. After the exam, the doctor automatically assumed I was going to get glasses without telling me how bad my eye sight was. I had to ask lots of questions about what the difference would be if I were to get glasses and if I didn't. He got some lenses and showed me. I ended up getting glasses just so I could see clearer. I went back out to the lobby and found a pair of glasses I liked. I have a really small nose so the glasses didn't stay on, so I told the person helping me and she said they could bend the frames so they didn't slide off my face. I was kind of disappointed that they used the frames on display and not a new pair, especially since I was paying nearly $200 for these frames. The lady said they would be done in about two weeks. I called back two weeks later because I haven't heard from them. I told them my name and said they didn't have anything under that name. Confused, I told them the date and time of my appointment so they could check their records. They found my name, but it wasn't me. It was an older women in her 40s with the same name. I gave them my DOB so they could find me. They finally found me and said the glasses were still being shipped back. They finally called me a few days later and I came to pick up my glasses. I asked for my prescription because the doctor never told me what it was and did not give me any paperwork. They easily printed it out, but it wasn't mine! I think it was the same woman they had assumed earlier! I walked out the door and noticed that it wasn't my address or DOB and told them. They just tossed it, found mine, and printed it. I hope they shred their paperwork because that's confidential information! The receptionists were also very rude when I came to pick up my glasses. I've been going here for over five years. I knew they were expensive but I didn't care. Case in point even with VSP insurance I paid $350plus. That is not what got me upset. I went there today because the screw came out of my glasses. This type of repair usually takes 10 minutes to do. The store was empty except one customer and 3 visible employees. The front desk person said it would take 3 days to repair. I asked why so long? He replied sheepishly that it takes time to find a screw. Really! I could understand 24 hours if they are busy but 3 days is ridiculous. I walked over to Lenscrafters which was pact and they repaired my glasses in about 15 minutes. Latest example that cause me never to go back is when I got a pair of new glasses in Oct 2018 that came back blemish. It is now Nov 2019 and they still have not gotten it replaced. Just picked up my pair of eyeglasses earlier and yes was I satisfied :) Friendly and helpful staff.. Best of all they accept VSP insurance.. which LensCrafters dont. Dr Scott Holbert is fantastic. He always stops and listens to what I have to say. I never feel rushed or like he isn't listening. I've been having an unusual eye problem lately, and when I called he told me to come in right away and fit me in. Another appointment this morning, I came in to pick up some forms and he still came over to say hi and check in with me. He also doesn't overwhelm you with big words. He'll put it in layman terms without making you feel stupid. -1 star because the office staff sometimes seems not as on the ball as they could be. The docs are a 4, the service is a 2 so the average is a 3. I didn't meet the elusive Dr. Holbert, but the doc I did get was efficient and knowledgeable. He knew about eye changes during and after pregnancy, knew about some of my unique eye needs, and answered all my questions. He was professional and kind as well as friendly. 4 stars my friend. But the service: The glasses selection was just ok. I settled on a pair of that I thought would be good. It took over a week for them to come in and when they did, the right lens was all distorted. They told me to try them for a week because it was a new presciption (ok, only 2nd pair of glasses ever so I have no clue). After 5 days i couldn't take it anymore so I brought them back. They actually gave me quite a hassle about getting the distortion fixed. They made me get a NEW vision exam (free), said the prescription was right. I said, ok but the LENS is distorted, like there is a ripple in it. I guess they figured I had glasses so how could I be right??? So instead they said they would put my old prescription back for that eye. Whatever, they sent them out and after another week, they came back and it was fine. 2 stars because I didn't have to pay, but I go the "we aren't lenscrafters so we won't take them back again." I hate to say this but the SERVICE end is better at Lenscrafters! (GOOOOOOOOO Geo!). But since I have VSP coverage, I opted for an insurance covered provider. Oh well. I have purchased eyeglasses from Dr Holbert at Oakridge mall the past few years. Nice choices, no issues until now. I have had my glasses Lara's than 6 months and the nose piece fell off. I went to the office to ask for it to be fixed and was told they could not help me. I was very upset they are expensive glasses. I then called and asked about the warranty on my glasses. I was told to go to Oakley and purchase the nose piece. I explained that a warranty would be they fix anything that goes wrong. She then stated they could order it but it will take 1-2 months. I asked that she order it and she replied ok you will have to wait 1-2 months. The more I think about it the more I get aggravated. I paid good money for the glasses and now I will be without glasses due to a nosepiece. I tried to replace it myself but it's Oakley and nothing fits. Very frustrating. Should've read reviews before I went to them. First optometrist/optician in USA. I have made two visits to this place. Dr Scott Holbert is great. Would give him 5 stars. However service is extremely poor! Visit 1: 2014 Oct. They told me it would take over a month to get my prescribed glasses. I have been ordering glasses since 3rd Grade in multiple parts of the world and this is the worst ETA ever given to me. Decided to place the order in India. No harm done. Visit 2: 2016 March. This time they gave me an ETA of 2 weeks. After which they said (this is after I called them- 2 weeks passed and heard nothing from them) that they are sending it back to their "Lab" because the lens wasn't made according to prescription and they are putting a rush on it so I will receive it the same week. I called at the end of the week and they said they will need one more week. Basically 2 weeks from the original commitment (I don't know what placing a rush means to them if both have the same ETA!). To top all this poor customer service, they are extremely unapologetic about all the trouble they have caused me. oh and FYI.. you cannot cancel on phone/online! You have to waste more of your time on them and do it in person! Bottomline: THESE GUYS CANNOT KEEP A COMMITMENT AND THEY DONT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS! read more

I was given glasses here once and it will stay at that because the receptionist here have no effort of customer service. How can you just give glasses without a paperwork of your prescription information for future purchases. I called today to get an email of my prescription info via email and the first lady seemed nice but didnt do what she specificially told me she was going to do. Called again after 50mins and some deep african accent lady answered with a tone that showed no sign of interest of help and was most definetely ill mannered and arrogant informing me that its really busy and apparently she had no capabilities of giving the info i needed via email unless a receptionist was in attendance. What Optomitrist is so busy that they cant email information that can be done in a minute she was just full of it. She needs to get replaced. On August 17, 2020 I went in for my exam. No problems. Got my prescription and they said they would order new lenses. After 3 weeks or so my wife went in for her appointment and asked about my lenses. They never ordered them. After another 3 weeks I had to call to find out that my lenses were there. Went in only to find out that the lenses ordered were bifocals. I wear trifocals. They said they would reorder. On November 11 I called only to be told that the person who ordered them was off and that a manager would call me later that day. On November 12 I had to call again. The manager apologized five times and told me she would check with the manufacturer and call me right back. Here it is three days later, and I am still waiting for a call. Stay away. Stay far away from this place. Their customer service is terrible. Just a side note. Over the last four years I have always had to initiate a call to find out if my lenses/glasses were in. Upfront $1100. No discounts. No problem. I managed it. What sucks is , When i went to get my glasses, the sunglasses were super loose on me. They would not even stay on my face. I told the girl working there that ok these don't fit. She was like sorry but we can't return them. I was like really????? I am going to be stuck with these expensive gucci sunglasses that don't even fit me just because you don't have a return policy ??? Mind you.. these glasses were tried and they fit well and hence they were ordered but the once I got JUST DID NOT STAY on my face. The manager said well you can get another ones. I was like but I don't like the other ones, that was the whole point I got these ones because I liked these ones. The Dr. was great except I left with my old contacts in after getting a contact exam and paying for it (even though insurance covers 100%) which I thought was ridiculous because I told her these are an old prescription and I can't see well because I ran out of contacts during covid. I had to wait 8 minutes to pay because two employees were in the back gossiping about if they get called in on their day off they should be getting paid $45/ hour because it's on their time. If I'd read all of these reviews first, I would never have gone here. They have ONE good employee that knows what she is doing and she moved to the Oakridge location. I ordered my glasses on 4/6 this year and their lab messed up and forgot the transitions. So, they tell me that they'll send it back and the lab will correct it, then it all goes right down the toilet. When I expected the lenses would be back, I never heard, so I called the Valley fair store which is where we went. The gal answering the phone barely sounds awake and she disappears to go check. She then tells me they're not ready yet. I was shocked! I asked, "Were they even ordered?" I expected an explanation of some sort and I only got an abrupt YES. Yes, they're ordered, yes they're on the way, yes they don't care? Then another week goes by. We left messages for Dr. Holbert (JR) himself to call us, he never called back. My husband contacted the friend at Oakridge and THAT is when we got action. She was in touch with the lab and then stoked the fire under the clan at Valleyfair. So now I have an idea that it was at least processing. Another week and a half goes by and the gentleman at the front desk that has a less than pleasant personality answers when I responded to a message that informed me that my lenses finally arrived (I thought by way of slow turtle from Egypt). He said my lenses were there. 5 minutes go by and the one employee that knows anything about the glasses called me to tell me that there was a misunderstanding and that my lenses weren't here yet. She apologized for the delay and she assured me the other friend had called them and informed them what happened and what is being done NOW. Okay, so now i have assurance that I will get glasses. I had pretty much given up and last Saturday I got a call saying that the lenses arrived. I just finally went earlier today and the one gal that spoke to me on the phone was with another customer. A nice young lady greeted me and took the frames to go put the lenses in. She returned and checked them out for me and that was it. The lady that was with the customer never came back out and Mr. Personality never looked up. Considering the ball was dropped sooo many times and we had to hunt down the information, I felt someone should have said "we're so sorry that this happened" NO one acknowledged that they f(*&ed up and No one took accountability for it. If I did my job this way, I'd have explaining to do and I'd be shown the door. This is only my second visit here and my last. My husband was furious that no one said anything about this whole mess. Customer service score is a zip for horrible communication, lack of follow up and then just let me walk out and leave without ever saying we're sorry that this took so long. read more

When I go to Dr Holberts I get a good prescription! I went to Holbert (not the actual Dr Holbert, optometrists who work there) at this location about 10 years ago, for a prescription and a rather pricey pair of glasses. Years later I went to another optometrist for a test and glasses, and was unhappy with my prescription. It was almost right.. and I was told my eyes would adjust, however I had trouble focusing my eyes on things. Later on, I went to a private eye doctor, and got an even worse prescription after a rushed eye test. It was like I was in the fun house! After that I decided to go back to Holbert, I just couldn't get a prescription as good as the one I had 10 years ago. Well, the eye test I got at Holberts was accurate and I was happy with my prescription once again! I have no idea why the other optometrists just couldn't get it right, but at Holberts I got a high quality, accurate test the 2 times I've went. Go figure! Holbert's has a good selection of higher-end frames, I had no problem finding frames I liked. The biggest negative about Dr Holbert Optometry I encountered were the prices. The eye test was not overpriced, but if you buy a pair of glasses here the bill can surprise you at the last second as you're about to pay it. read more

They told me to take my new glasses home and try them for a week or so. I told them I couldn't see out of them but they insisted on me taking them. Of course I couldn't use them. The office was clean and organized but the office staff never really seemed interested in assisting any of the customers beyong getting them in to see Dr. Holbert. SO much so that I waited for 20 minutes for one of his staff to help me pick a pair of glasses. Dr. Holbert seemed kind of quirky and was preoccupied with my son who was standing by my side. while I was given the eye exams. Maybe I caught him on a bad day so I will give him that. We have been going to Dr. Holbert and Associates for many years. It is unfortunate that their service has not been as satisfying as in the past. We recently had an appointment and showed up on time. They informed us when we got there that they moved our appointment and took another client in our time slot. There was no explanation and no apologies for the inconvenience they caused us. The glasses I have gotten here have been very expensive and the optical quality absolutely dismal. They also do a very poor job of measuring the centre point and one pair were only clear if I pushed them way up until I was almost looking under the frame. I switched to Lenscrafters and got some new High Index Varilux lenses and they are worlds better, my vision is crisp and clear again. I should have switched sooner, as I figured my eyesight was just failing as I got older but in fact it was just the low quality of (several pairs) of their lenses. read more

I have used this optometrist for over 5 years because it was the convenient option. On multiple occasions, this office claimed my insurance wouldn't cover certain things even after I got off the phone with my insurance to confirm my coverage. They provided me with the incorrect prescription multiple times which required multiple trips and lenses that weren't visually correct for me. They do not call you when your orders are in, instead you have to call them to check in. Their prices are high for contacts/glasses so I started asking for my prescription; they make you feel like you're guilty of a crime by asking for your prescription because they know they're losing money with you going to cheaper options for lenses. I recently changed optometrists and the difference was night and day. This optometrist charged me exactly what my insurance stated they would unlike Holbert's. The appointments were very different as well, making it clear that Holbert's does the bare minimum to get you in and out the door in 15 minutes instead of providing a full and comprehensive eye exam all for the same price. i came in there to get new prescription glasses. Got my eyes checked and they were very patient with me. Susanne (Sorry if spelled it wrong) showed me different glasses that i would like. knowing me, i am very picky and couldnt decide. The important thing to this was she was very patient with me and catered to what i needed. thumbs up! talk about Good Customer Service. The other people who helped me out before were cool too but she was the best when it comes to "Customers first" Attitude. i dont know if this is a sales based job but if it is, go to her if you want the perfect glasses. read more

My son and I have been going to Dr. Holbert's optometry office for about 5 yrs now...he has done some of mine and my son's exams and he and his entire staff are very friendly and always professional. My son and I both wear lenses...and I also wear contacts. I go to this office for all of our needs. They have a great selection of frames, from high end to less expensive brands. I buy all my frames from them, but I don't buy my son's frames there because he is only 7 yrs and is prone to losing things....plus I was able to find super cheap frames for my son at Walmart. The entire staff is really helpful and always willing to go the extra mile. One time, in between visits, I found an old pair of sunglasses that had a missing screw. I took the glasses to Dr. Holberts office and they were nice enough to fix it for me for free...they didn't even ask if I was a client. That's the kind of service you get at this office--friendly and caring. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: Just went back with my son and I was disappointed to see that their childrens frames selection was pretty weak. Only about 10 frames total...none of them very trendy looking at all...I didn't even bother to look at the price. So if you have small children, be forewarned, the staff is great but the frame selection for kids is non existant. I'll still take my son there to have his eye exam, but we'll be taking his prescription elsewhere. I had gone to many optometrists in the area...and this business has not only met my needs; but my children's needs of getting a correct prescription to see better. My appointment time was respected and we were seen when we were scheduled. The hours are great for working parents and students (so you don't have to take your child out from school for an eye doctor appointment). After wearing contacts for over 20 years; this was the first place to EVER recommend contact lenses that are bifocals. I love how I can see and read without putting on a pair of reading glasses while wearing my contact lenses. The office staff has also been helpful. read more

I had a lot of questions about renewing my contact lens and the lady who I was talking on the phone sounded like she doesn't have the time and patience to deal with me. I can pay for my contact lens without my insurance but she assumed that I can't afford paying $200 to get the fitting and contact lens. I liked the Doctor who did my eye check up couple months back but sadly, I do agree with the negative reviews here. I hope they read their Yelp Reviews because the management for Holbert Optometrists should double check their staff. Everyone has their bad days and good days, but don't let it affect your work ethic. read more
