I have lived in long beach for about three years now and after exploring many liquor stores Holden's is hands down my favorite. The staff is always friendly, the prices are super cheap and it is in a great location. I am a USMC Veteran and the owners have treated me with nothing but respect and kindness, they are truly good people who want to sell us booze for a cheap price and I never buy from anyone else. Situation: You are over at your friends' place having cocktails, playing games, laughing it up and all of a sudden the (very young) evening comes to a screeching hault...you are out of mixers. WHAT DO YOU DO? You call Holden's Liquor of course! They deliver anything in the store for a $5.00 fee. I found Holden's Liquor's phone number from my super handy Yelp application on my iPhone, dialed, and in seconds was talking to the nicest lady on the other end of the line. I placed an order for a few energy drinks, she took down the address and within a half-hour I had said energy drinks in my hand. I am sure she and I will become good friends...I usually find myself without something I need (or want) when I am cocktailing and THAT leaves me without the sobriety required to go and get it myself. read more

You get friendly owners that treat you like you are loyal customers willing to come back and to enjoy the experience. I go here almost daily and they're great. Unfortunately, one employee, the older veteran , doesn't know how to appropriately work the register and won't work with half cash half cars transactions like any other store that exists. It seems like he wants to force card transactions for the additional fee it costs. Someone in charge there should train him better read more

ok so this place used to be a gigantic moldy piece of shit liquor store that you only used as a last resort when all the other less rat infested liquor stores were closed. In the last year a new owner with actual brains and business sense took over and now its above par. They deliver to your house and they have a variety of alcohol that makes you wanna do a happy dance all the way there. Nice employees! cannot express that enough read more

I would have given this a full on five but when we got home our ice was obviously had been melted and re frozen into a gross hard confused u tasty mess... and My 4.99 bottle of wine came out 11.99 ... granted only place near by that sells booze after 11/1130pm. So watch what you buy... food is old ... candy at your own risk... ice cream dont... and ck your receipt on booze. read more

I occasionally stop off at Holden's on my way home from work. They've recently brought in a nice selection of French Wine... So glad they did! Tired of seeing the same ol' stuff that you can find anywhere. Love the Chateau Saint Martin Rose.. Grand Cru even... WOW! It was a huge hit and paired beautifully with a spicy Thai dish I made over the weekend. For the wine novice or connoisseur, there's a French wine for you! read more

I have been injured for the past 3 months and occasionally get the sinister urge to drink. I've called here three times for delivery, and they ony came through once. They have expensive prices and a limited selection (really, Bud light, not regular Budweiser!?! PBR it is) so the delivery is the only reason to patronize this place, but if they don't deliver when I ask, why would I call? I heard they just got new owners so maybe this will change, and is the only reason they don't get 1 star. read more
