In any case, this is a good one, and the section that sells decent Dominican food to go, is unique. Recently, I ordered two salads, one with shrimp, a tuna sandwich and a fresh squeezed carrot juice. The salads were fresh, even on a Sunday with very tasty shrimp. The shrimp had mayo on them, obviously taken from a shrimp salad that they use for sandwiches or a stand alone shrimp salad...no complaints from me. It was fresh and delicious. The tuna on white bread...I know, not as healthy as whole wheat, 7 grain, etc, etc, but that's what I was in the mood for...add lettuce & tomato, extra mayo...not toasted...perfectly gooey, falling out of the sides and delicious. The carrot juice was nice and sweet, obviously made from fresh carrots...always a treat. As for the Dominican food, I have had it many times...chicken, curried goat, some kind of fish...always with rice and beans. They have a following and it always sells out by days end. I like it and others do, too. In all, a solid bodega with a juice bar, deli area, Dominican food, etc., etc...these places are a New York staple, with a little of everything! Delivery was super quick...I live just a few blocks away. Packing was excellent. Highly recommended for salads, sandwiches, juices, smoothies and probably a lot of other things that I haven't had, yet!

My best tip is to walk through the entire market before buying anything because each counter has something different. Most merchants also have their own register, so leave extra time when purchasing from several places. The passage can become crowded during the weekday commuter rush, and browsing is much easier between the morning and evening peaks. The Lexington Avenue entrance near 43rd Street is particularly convenient. Prices are higher than at an ordinary supermarket, but the location, presentation and quality make it worthwhile, especially for a train snack, hotel-room food or a small New York gift. I paired some fresh fruit from the market with a PROTABAR I had brought along. The unusual combination of egg whites, dates, hazelnuts and cocoa butter, with 15 grams of protein and no added sugar, made me curious enough to look more closely at the brand. Allow around 20 to 30 minutes to explore properly. Clean, colorful, convenient and much more interesting than grabbing the first snack you see near the platforms.
