The taro donuts are super yum. We ordered purple haze and lilikoi. We liked the taste and texture of the donuts. They were served in a box nice and warm.

Lucky enough to have tried Holey Grail in Hanalei, Honolulu, and Long Beach. But the Hanalei location is the best imo. Island feel definitely. Their coffee is really good and they use cashew milk. The classic 4 donuts are all good but the weekly specials are great. Lucky enough that we have a group of people to share multiple donuts
(Late review - July 2024) A viral donut shop where all the influencers raved about. It's located in a quaint food truck area. My husband and I had high expectations from all the recs. The service was swift and courteous. Everything is outdoors so the seats are picnic tables next to the truck. The donuts are beautifully crafted, enticing to the eyes. I can't say the taste is the same. The donut texture and flavors did not stand out nor memorable. I recalled the donuts were on the dense side. Bottom line: Not worth the hype.
It feels like this place is really selling the fancy boxes as much as the donuts. We tried the Chocolate Crunch and the Rick Martinez donut. They make them fresh right in front of you, and they come out hot, which is fun to see. The donuts were on the smaller side and a bit pricey at $5 each. The Chocolate Crunch was a little too bitter for me, though the filling inside was good. The Rick Martinez donut was amazing thought.The flavor was really unique, with delicious creamy icing, a fluffy interior, and coconut sprinkles. Plus, it didn't taste oily.
Fancy doughnuts. Pretty delicious. I like the crunch of the crust. I enjoy their creativity. It's not a daily doughnut place because of the high prices but I've gone a few times when I'm feeling rebellious, giving my wallet the bird. I appreciate they have multiple tables in the shade.

They were served HOT which meant it did take a few minutes, you can see them making the donuts fresh through the window. Worth the wait! We got an original sin, tropical swirl, food of the gods & chocolate crunch. All were loved by our group. Tropical swirl was the least loved by the adults as it's extremely sweet but the seven year old loved it. Overall favorite for my group was the original sin. Maple isn't my thing so I didn't try it. My favorite was the food of the gods - it had tons of vanilla sugar on it and was so different from any other donut I've had. It's well balanced and not too sweet. There's a covered outdoor area you can eat in which was helpful for us in particular as it was raining when we stopped in.
If you're putting together a food list for your trip to Kauai, Holy Grail Donuts needs to be on it. After Java Kai, this is easily our next top recommendation! The donuts are perfectly sized--not too big, not too small--and the servers are as nice as the donuts. On our visit, they recommended what to order and we got lucky with a free donut. We actually ended up visiting both locations just to try different flavors and get the full experience. No regrets. 10/10 recommend making a donut detour (or two) during your stay. Ps- it is a food truck and has limited seating.
The donuts here were delicious! Warm, soft, melt in your mouth. The glazes on top perfectly compliment the donut itself and add some lightness and sharpness. Highly recommend the Lilikoi and the ube.

It says this location is permanently closed here, but I went and had them a few days ago, so I'm not sure that's right. My husband and I got a box of four to try different flavors: chocolate, sugar cinnamon, hot single, and lilikoi. They had tables to sit at and a really fun laid back vibe. It is a counter service, and the girl working was super kind and gave us recommendations for things to do during our trip. The donuts here are made fresh to order, so they came out hot. They are taro based and were a little thick for me, but my husband and I both still enjoyed them. I especially loved the frosting on the lilikoi. Absolutely delicious! Overall, great place to try!!
Doughnuts were made fresh, came out hot and very moist. We got purple haze and the original sin. Both were amazing. I love that the glaze was not too thick or two sweet. Just right without making you feel sick from the sweetness. I hope when I come back, I'll be able to try different flavors. Highly recommend trying these doughnuts out! OH MY GOODNESS! We were eating lunch at one of the food trucks in this courtyard with no thought of dessert. We smelled the heavenly scent coming from holey grail and looked at the menu. Taro doughnuts - um that sounds great. Delicious toppings - we are getting some!! The taro make the doughnuts dense but flavorful. They are more crisp on the edges which is good. We tried honey and sea salt, chrro and maple glazed. Each was excellent and it's hard to pick a winner. We were stuffed from lunch but almost bought. Second batch they were so good. read more

There is no better way to start a day in Kauai, than with a sunrise dip and Holey Grail!!! Me and my two girlfriend split this box of four donuts so we got to try everything and we all got a yummy latte! Sooo delicious and full of flavor! Don't skip this spot when you're visiting the island! read more

I had heard so much about Holy Grail Donuts and they absolutely lived up to the hype. The fact that they're all vegan is amazing, and you honestly wouldn't know it. They come out fresh, warm, and are so, so good. We even put the leftovers in the fridge and they still tasted great later. I also love that they're on the smaller side. They're the perfect size because you get your donut fix without feeling too guilty... or you can just justify trying a few different flavors. (that's we did haha) Definitely a must-try if you're on the island. read more

Great donuts that don't make you feel like you just ate a bunch of donuts. They're made fresh to order and the flavors rotate regularly. The strawberry fields was my favorite but they're all good. Great coffee too. read more

Some of the best donuts I've ever had, hands down! We got a box of four to share between the two of us, which was the perfect post-hike treat. Every donut is made to order, so they came out hot, fresh, and fast. We tried the Lilikoi, Chocolate Crunch, Food of the Gods, and POG, and honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Each one had its own unique flavor, my favorites were the fruity ones they were unlike any other donut I've had. Highly recommend stopping by, especially if you're looking for something delicious and a little different from your standard donut shop. read more
We stopped by before heading to the shuttle for Kalalau hike. It's a cute little shop on the site of the road and has pretty views. Donuts came out hot and fresh since they were made to order. The donuts were very small and both just tasted like glazed donuts. read more
I'm usually not a donut person but these donuts were good. They're chewy and the flavors are fun. We tried the ube, passion fruit, original and the hot single. All of them were good. Not too overly sweet. The staff was very friendly, too. Ample parking spot and shaded area to dine in. read more

These donuts are made from taro, seed oil free and made to order. They get the taro from the patches seen in hanalei- how can it get better! I especially love their fruity flavors- they're surprisingly not too sweet. Their peanut butter chocolate donut was a bit too rich for my liking. The line and wait can be fairly long so I'd advise ordering on the app. Sometimes this place isn't always open when they say they are, so the app is a good way to check. read more
Great donuts! Even the sweetest one was not really as sweet as a regular donut, it was just right! The donuts are fresh made just for you at order time. The location is in a food truck court, with lots of seating and good parking. Nice and clean cooking area. This is the place to get donuts in Hanalei. read more

Yelpers recommended this stop as a must. We ended up ordering one of each donut drom the menu, sampling them and then ordering another batch of our favorites. The donuts are surprisingly dense but fluffy if that makes sense. We also ordered a couple of their coffee drinks, they only come iced. The stop has a couple long bench-style tables with a patio cover and the donuts are made fresh within the trailer. There is cute merchandise for sale to purchase to bring home a souvenir. We visited twice during our stay in Kauai. read more

Tried to come here 1130 on a Wednesday off-season. A full hour and a half before closing, only to find a big fat closing sign in my face. Honestly, I don't consider that acceptable at all unless you have some sort of mechanical breakdown. I have worked in food service before, and sometimes we could understand closing five minutes early but not a full hour and a half. They allege they are made to order but seem to have sold out as though it's premade. Mind you, this was also off-season, and on a Wednesday. Totally unacceptable and really disappointed after we dealt with traffic to get into Hanalei. This place isn't even local anyway. They are based in Oahu. They have locations in Los Angeles also. Maybe they will accommodate you better. read more

Perhaps I am too generous of a rater - but this place deserves nothing lower than 5 stars. First off, everything about the aesthetic of this place is wonderful - from the unassuming appearance to the place to the massive variety offered on the menu to the glorious coloring of the POG (Passionfruit, Orange, Guava) donut - even to the box that housed my delectable donut itself... everything had such INTENTION behind it. The donut was the best I have ever tasted - freshly fried with the perfect crunchy exterior and concurrent fluffy interior. My only regret is not having ordered another, because as you can tell from the photos, the size is fairly small... leaving you tempted to buy a million more right? Anyways, will rave about this one for awhile. AMAZING. read more

This is a very tasty option for donuts in the Hanalei area. We arrived early and they were made to order on site. Much better consumed hot but still good later. Expensive but hey most of the time you're on vacation when in Hanalei and who cares on vacation right . They were smaller than I had anticipated, but packed full of flavor. The service we had was great. There's even a small stream outback behind the picnic area where you can sit and enjoy your donuts. read more
Very cute donut food truck selling fresh/made to order donuts! They had a few flavors we wanted to try but were full from lunch, so we just got 1 strawberry matcha donut and an iced matcha latte. Love that they already use DF milk but the coconut flavor from the coconut cashew milk was quite strong and couldn't really taste the matcha. The donut also only tasted like the oil it was fried in.. so overpowering that we couldn't taste the strawberry or matcha unfortunately Not sure if this was just today because it was our first time But super friendly service! Never thought I would find some of the best donuts I have ever tried in Kauai. I would describe this as a made to order blend of a churro and a donut. Pure genius!! Absolutely delicious. Packaging, presentation & service was great and I appreciate that they are made hot & fresh. However the donuts are super small and very expensive for what you are getting. I get cost of living on Kauai is high but over $20 for 4 tiny donuts is a bit extreme... the donuts themselves were also a little too dense and had a old cooking oil after taste. read more

This donut place is unreal. First of all, the name is amazing and it totally fits. The donuts are made fresh right in front of you, and they come out hot, soft, and absolutely delicious. I got the Original Sin donut and honestly, I could eat a hundred of them. The flavor was just that good. Service was solid, especially considering they make everything fresh to order. The donuts are a bit on the smaller side, but the taste more than makes up for it. Plus, the girl working there was super kind and welcoming. Definitely worth a stop but make sure to order a couple since they are very small. read more

Do the donuts have wheat flour in them? I see they are not gluten free, but also that they're made with taro starch so I'm wondering what in them has gluten
Hi! Our donuts are soy-free, but not gluten-free. While we use cooked taro in our dough recipe there is also some low gluten cake flour added as a binder.
