The taro donuts are super yum. We ordered purple haze and lilikoi. We liked the taste and texture of the donuts. They were served in a box nice and warm.

Perfection! Hot & delicious & simple donut. Honey and sea salt set this donut off in your mouth. I credile views in Princeville. Fast and friendly service. Also have a location in Kapaa. Both were great.

Ever had Taro donuts before- must try if not. Freshly made to order donuts Limited flavors based on the week but they do have a few permanent donuts. Lucky enough to have tried Holey Grail in Hanalei, Honolulu, and Long Beach. But the Hanalei location is the best imo. Island feel definitely. Their coffee is really good and they use cashew milk. The classic 4 donuts are all good but the weekly specials are great. Lucky enough that we have a group of people to share multiple donuts

(Late review - July 2024) A viral donut shop where all the influencers raved about. It's located in a quaint food truck area. My husband and I had high expectations from all the recs. The service was swift and courteous. Everything is outdoors so the seats are picnic tables next to the truck. The donuts are beautifully crafted, enticing to the eyes. I can't say the taste is the same. The donut texture and flavors did not stand out nor memorable. I recalled the donuts were on the dense side. Bottom line: Not worth the hype.

It feels like this place is really selling the fancy boxes as much as the donuts. We tried the Chocolate Crunch and the Rick Martinez donut. They make them fresh right in front of you, and they come out hot, which is fun to see. The donuts were on the smaller side and a bit pricey at $5 each. The Chocolate Crunch was a little too bitter for me, though the filling inside was good. The Rick Martinez donut was amazing thought. The flavor was really unique, with delicious creamy icing, a fluffy interior, and coconut sprinkles. Plus, it didn't taste oily.

Great donuts that don't make you feel like you just ate a bunch of donuts. They're made fresh to order and the flavors rotate regularly. The strawberry fields was my favorite but they're all good. Great coffee too.

Original, cinnamon, Ricky Martin, and....I can't remember.

Fancy doughnuts. Pretty delicious. I like the crunch of the crust. I enjoy their creativity. It's not a daily doughnut place because of the high prices but I've gone a few times when I'm feeling rebellious, giving my wallet the bird. I appreciate they have multiple tables in the shade.

Oh so delicious & unique donuts. Family for a box of five so we could try some different ones. They were served HOT which meant it did take a few minutes, you can see them making the donuts fresh through the window. Worth the wait! We got an original sin, tropical swirl, food of the gods & chocolate crunch. All were loved by our group. Tropical swirl was the least loved by the adults as it's extremely sweet but the seven year old loved it. Overall favorite for my group was the original sin. Maple isn't my thing so I didn't try it. My favorite was the food of the gods - it had tons of vanilla sugar on it and was so different from any other donut I've had. It's well balanced and not too sweet. There's a covered outdoor area you can eat in which was helpful for us in particular as it was raining when we stopped in.

If you're putting together a food list for your trip to Kauai, Holy Grail Donuts needs to be on it. After Java Kai, this is easily our next top recommendation! We tried four flavors--Original Sin, Cocoa Nibs, Passion Fruit (Lilikoi), and Honey Glazed--and let me tell you, they were all phenomenal. But if we had to choose, Original Sin and Honey Glazed were the standouts. Yes, I know that sounds basic, but sometimes the classics just hit different--and these absolutely did. The donuts are perfectly sized--not too big, not too small--and the servers are as nice as the donuts. On our visit, they recommended what to order and we got lucky with a free donut. We actually ended up visiting both locations just to try different flavors and get the full experience. No regrets. 10/10 recommend making a donut detour (or two) during your stay. Ps- it is a food truck and has limited seating.

The donuts here were delicious! Warm, soft, melt in your mouth. The glazes on top perfectly compliment the donut itself and add some lightness and sharpness. Highly recommend the Lilikoi and the ube.

Taro donuts made to order with unique glazes. I had the tropical swirl. This glaze was a swirl of strawberries, passion fruit, and dragon fruit. DELICIOUS! Didn't get a chance to try any of the drinks bc they ran out. Also wanted to try pandan

It says this location is permanently closed here, but I went and had them a few days ago, so I'm not sure that's right. My husband and I got a box of four to try different flavors: chocolate, sugar cinnamon, hot single, and lilikoi. They had tables to sit at and a really fun laid back vibe. It is a counter service, and the girl working was super kind and gave us recommendations for things to do during our trip. The donuts here are made fresh to order, so they came out hot. They are taro based and were a little thick for me, but my husband and I both still enjoyed them. I especially loved the frosting on the lilikoi. Absolutely delicious! Overall, great place to try!!

Doughnuts were made fresh, came out hot and very moist. We got purple haze and the original sin. Both were amazing. I love that the glaze was not too thick or two sweet. Just right without making you feel sick from the sweetness. I hope when I come back, I'll be able to try different flavors. Highly recommend trying these doughnuts out! They are one in a few of the best doughnuts I've had.

Ask the Community - Holey Grail Donuts

Do the donuts have wheat flour in them? I see they are not gluten free, but also that they're made with taro starch so I'm wondering what in them has gluten

Hi! Our donuts are soy-free, but not gluten-free. While we use cooked taro in our dough recipe there is also some low gluten cake flour added as a binder.

Do they have vegan gluten free options?

We have vegan options but not gluten free options at the moment

Can you guys PLEASE be open on more days that Sunday?

YES! We are now open 5 days a week come visit us :D

Do they have gluten free options?

Aloha, thank you for asking! Our dough is taro based but not gf.

    Is this place permanently closesd?

Nothing special or unique about burgers, pizza, and doughnuts. Thus, having "100% Local" and "Quality over quantity" garishly marketed on their building- constitutes as fraud as far I am concerned. What exactly is "local" about this business? Certainly not the ingredients- nor are the business owners. What exactly makes the coffee "Hawaiian"? Certainly not the coffee beans. What makes it "quality"? Fruity pebble lucky charm marshmallow donut? This business does not support or benefit the local farmers or the health of the local people. But they will use shady marketing and gladly accept the money of the naive and gullible. This building has the ambience of a laser-tag arena, and I wish the county would make them paint over the hideous artwork. It stands out like a giant tacky billboard on the side of the highway. So to the locals and tourists- go support an actual deserving local business. You can get junk like this anywhere- there's nothing unique or authentic about it. Also- this business is sketchy. Ask around.

I almost canceled after seeing a few mixed reviews online, but I'm really glad we decided to go anyway. First off - you really come here for the atmosphere and the view. It is absolutely incredible! Sitting outdoors taking in the Kauaʻi landscape is top-tier. The menu itself is pretty limited. Here's what we tried: Papaya Salad: Really refreshing and tasty, though a bit steep on the price tag for what it is. Pork Belly Ramen: good but definitely not authentic-level ramen and at $30 (even with the added spicy miso sauce) it was just okay. I probably wouldn't order it again. Sesame/Ground Pork Soup (Hubs' order): He got a dish with ground pork and udon noodles in a sesame base broth, and that one was actually really delicious! Service was stellar! Our waiter, Keoni, was super attentive, friendly, and awesome overall. While the ramen prices are on the high side for what you get, the view, service, and ambiance made it a wonderful evening out on our trip!
