Imagine biting into a donut that has a semi crunchy outer layer but soft buttery inside. Now picture it with your favorite island flavor, like lilikoi. Now you can turn that dream into reality at Holey grail! Donuts were perfect! Flavors were on point, and coffee was the right amount of strongness. A friend brought us here and her recommendation was right. This place was delicious!

Lilikoi taro doughnut was incredible and they make them fresh. Somewhat random location next to the Whole Foods but we were already in the area.

Chocolate crunch; perfectly sweet. We loved the little cocoa bits. The crunch adds a nice texture that would otherwise be missing from a normal donut. The ratio of donut to price is somewhat lacking

Got a box of 9 donuts so we could try all the flavors! My partner enjoyed the peanut butter cup, and I enjoyed the Lilikoi donut the most! A runner up for both of us was the cosmic churro!

Holey Grail, located in Kakaako is like finding the Holy Grail from the Indiana Jones movie. I have absolutely no idea how they get that much flavor out of each donut but my Lord you have to try it. We opted for the multi 4 pack when we should have gotten a dozen. Since this was our first time there the employee behind the counter offered us her suggestions and not one donut was a disappointment. Every bite was fresh and practically melted in your mouth. The place is huge and super clean so you can sit back relax, eat your donut and enjoy some freshly brewed coffee too. We parked at Ward Theaters and walked right over. Go check um out between the condos of Kakaako!

@fortunefoodfinds: "TARO-fic any time of the day! A Mission Hot Chocolate, Hail Mary, Black Sabbath, n' Strawberry Fields from HOLEY GRAIL DONUTS in Honolulu. Whether you get it for breakfast or have it for dessert, treating yourself to unique n' delicious taro donuts doesn't hurt!" SERVICE: fast n' fully staffed INTERIOR: spacious, modern n' minimalistic, bench n' stool seating, merch available for sale EXTERIOR: located at the Ward Village in Kaka'ako, good amount of outside seating WAIT TIME: 0 mins to order, 5 mins between placing order to receiving donuts PARKING: free garage right across OVERALL COMMENTS: donuts are prepared to order n' come out hot. L.O.V.E. coming here for their unique flavors that are fun n' more importantly, delicious. It's always exciting to see what new flavors they come out with next. They are one of a kind being that their donut base is taro. Their donuts are not only cute n' well crafted, but just as much cool!

While looking for a mural around Ala Moana, we stumbled upon Holey Grail Donuts and so glad that we did. The shop offers a modern airy vibe with high ceilings. Upon entrance, we were greeted by friendly staff. The menu is not large so we quickly decided on an iced vanilla latte, chocolate milk (not me, my friend lol), and lilikoi (passion fruit) and purple haze donuts. Their donuts are made to order and they use taro for their dough base. The donuts were delicious, soft and with a cake-like interior. My vanilla latte was super tasty and I'm guessing that could have had something to do with the macadamia milk they were using. It was a bit pricey but I wouldn't hesitate to go back for that latte and some donuts.

Delicious fresh locally sourced donuts in Kakaako. Yes they are a little pricey...but they are such a delicious treat sometimes simple is better than gigantic donuts slathered with so many toppings you cant actually taste the flavor of the donut. They are made to order and not sitting out all day they pair perfectly with some delicious coffee. I love that the poi is sourced from Hanalei and the chocolate is sourced from manoa chocolate company. The interior of the store is beautiful and relaxing perfect place to eat donuts and people watch!

Review from son son: It's a 6 out of 5. The donut is soft and crunchy, sweet, and DELICIOUS. A few notes from Daddy: This place offers taro donuts and no dairy topping options. Perfect for son son due to allergies. They are located behind Whole Foods. It's a cute spot that offers awesome taro donuts with cool and different topping options. The staff is always friendly and their packaging is top notch.

If you've ever walked by Holey Grail, you'll know that the scent is intoxicating. How can you not want to walk in and eat some donuts? I'm so lucky to have Holey Grail in LA but I still love coming to this location whenever I'm in Hawaii. It's walking distance from where I usually stay so I'm tempted to get it every time. Luckily they have weekly specials and seasonal flavors so there's always something new to try. Holey Grail is home to 100% plant-based taro donuts but you wouldn't even know unless you knew. The texture is crispy/crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. They are made to order and fried in healthy oils so you don't have to feel guilty having these. Each donut is about $4.50-$5 but it's worth it! Their signature classic is the original sin which is made with real maple and Hawaiian vanilla glaze. I recommend getting this one to start. They also have a classic called Hail Mary which is a cardamom rose flavor if you like trying something different. This time, I got to try the weekly special strawberry Fields which has a local strawberry and single origin matcha glaze on it. As I mentioned earlier, they make the donuts to order so it does take a few minutes but it comes out piping hot and is soooo good if you eat it right away (just be careful not to burn yourself). I loved the slightly tart slightly sweet slightly earthy taste of the strawberry fields. It goes so nicely with the taro donut. The staff is friendly and the space is nice and quiet to enjoy your donut. They also have a few seating areas outside too. If you've never had a plant-based donut before, you have to try Holey Grail!

Rings of Taro ~ My favorite sweet treat shop at Ward. . With a small curated seasonal menu and locally sourced kalo (taro), Holey Grail is fried kalo-dough heaven - glazed or sugar coated - og. Doughnuts are made when ordered and you can smell the fresh, scrumptious batches outside the door...Probably why I always find myself walking thru them. lol . I recommend trying any of their seasonal flavors but their classic Hail Mary is a keeper. For the first timers, fill a box and try them all...it's worth it especially if you're sharing. (: . Today, I got the Black Sabbath - a seasonal donut with black sesame and banana brulee - happily satisfied w/ my choice. . Lots of minimalistic wooden bench seating inside that feel like chapel pews. A nice open space to enjoy some dessert or hop on a laptop to get some work (or yelp reviews) done. . cheers!

2nd visit. I remembered how delightful my experience was when I visited Honolulu for my birthday a few years ago and was determined to go back. I told the other birthday girls I was traveling with that we were making a Holey Grail stop during our trip. They were unimpressed. Turns out they were skeptical about taro. It is indeed offputting in some forms. Not in these doughnuts. I was enjoying mine in a sunny seat outside when my sister friends me and tried. Suffice it to say everyone made their own doughnut purchase. The interior is spacious and quiet, and there is seating outside, as it should be- it's Hawaii. The passion fruit, liliquoi, is my fav. I had a chocolate and snickerdoodle. Not a fan of either. The passion fruit and Original Sin (maple) are divine.

Such a nice spot, the interior is very bright and beautiful. Love that the donuts are made fresh. I tried the chai and it was a little bitter for my taste, but the donuts were so good. I dug in before remembering to take a photo, but the maple and coconut paired nicely and the passionfruit donut was bright and fruity.

Holey Grail Donuts Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Holey Grail Donuts

I am confused several reviews say they offer gluten-free donut holes. Do they have gluten-free donuts or gluten-free donut holes, or mochi donuts?

    Do they have mochi donuts?

Great question! They do not have mochi donuts. Holey Grail Donuts, known for their unique taro-based donuts, are made with Hawaii-grown taro as the base, fried in organic coconut oil, and feature seasonal flavors using local ingredients.

Do they now offer gluten-free donuts or gluten-free doughnut holes?

Are these cake doughnuts or yeast?

They are not GF but close enough that GF people do not have a reaction. They are poi/taro donuts 🍩 in the shape of cake donuts or look like cake donuts. Hope that helps

    Do they accept Apple Pay?

    Yes, they do.

    Are there any vegan options?

Yes, everything except for one donut with honey

    Is it gluten free?

It's actually not! I asked when I was there a couple weeks ago. They use Taro so there is not as much gluten as traditional donuts .

Are all of the donuts vegan? What are the ingredients?

No the hot single has honey. The specials flavors though each week are usually all vegan

A Cozy Cafe with Friendly Staff, but the Coconut Latte Missed the Mark…read more I stopped by Bluetree Cafe in Kakaʻako around 3 PM with my cat, and the staff were genuinely friendly. They all came over to say hi to my cat, which was such a sweet and welcoming touch. The cafe itself is very cozy and beautifully decorated, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I actually came specifically for the coconut latte after seeing it in their Yelp photos. Unfortunately, the drink was quite disappointing. There was a fairly long wait - around 8 - 10 minutes for one cup. It seemed like one of the baristas was new and another staff member was teaching her, so I completely understood the delay. But when I finally received the drink, it didn't taste anything like the coconut latte I was expecting and it's the most expensive one though. I've probably had couple of hundreds coconut lattes, so I have a pretty good idea of what I was looking for. I asked the barista if she might have accidentally made a regular latte instead of a coconut latte, and she assured me, "Yes, it's a coconut latte." I took several sips, but honestly, it tasted more like a cold brew to me. Since I had my cat with me and the AC inside was also quite strong, I eventually went outside and just enjoyed hanging out with my cat instead. I really wanted to love this place because the atmosphere and staff were so nice. If the coconut latte had been made correctly - or tasted more like the coconut latte shown in their photos - I would definitely consider coming back. For now, though, I'm not sure I would make a special trip back just for the drink. I hope they improve the consistency because the cafe has a lot of potential.

I don't want to be that person when this place has an overall rating of 4.5 but this is just my honest opinion. I got the blue dream and yes it was very ascetically pleasing, but it was just too icy. Before coming to this place i read a couple of reviews that also said the same thing and i didn't understand what that meant, but now I do. There are a lot of flavorless, just regular, small shards of ice in the bowl. On top of that, the moment I received my bowl, it was already borderline melted. So that got me thinking, how can it be melted and icy at the same time? The only explanation that I can think of is just ice additive/fillers. It's not pure cold acai or whatever is in the bowl you choose, but there's a mixture of ice in it too. Yes I understand, it's Waikiki, everything is more expensive, but the added topping prices on top of the already expensive bowl prices just don't make sense. You want a beautiful looking bowl with a lot of different toppings, yet some toppings can go up to 1 dollar PER topping. I don't know if I've just been spoiled by a couple places in SoCal, but at those places they have unlimited toppings and those bowls are the best that there is. I'm not bringing any bias from other locations, but this is just an honest review based on my experience today.
