Looking for a quick place to grab dinner. I read an article about the New Holiday Diner reopening and we had to try it. The menu was one page back and front but they had a great selection of lunch and dinner options. Both my wife had the burgers. She had a cheese burger and I had a Chili Cheese burger. My wife had French fries and I had sweet potato fries. They both came with pickle chips and Cole slaw which was made the way I make mine. I took my first bite and I knew right away this was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. My sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection as well. The decor was eye catching and they have a MilkShake of the week. I did not have one but they looked amazing. I now have to go and try the New Holiday Diner for breakfast. This was a pretty good diner. It was clean and fairly spacious with good service. I ordered a western omelette and it was as expected. Nothing extraordinary, but tasty and fresh. It came with home fries that were mushy. I had a hard time eating them, though I love me some home fries! I like them crisped and browned and soft in the center but these were like half mashed and, well- mushy. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but if I was in the area I might pop in. Where do you go for breakfast in Danbury with four families and a gaggle of children? I can now vouch for the New Holiday Diner. Is this up to the high standards of New Jersey diners? Maybe not. The potatoes could use a bit more seasoning, and crust from the griddle. The same can be said for the house made corned beef hash. Pancakes weren't as light and fluffy as one might want. And scrambled eggs were more like a plain chopped omelette, done on the flattop. These are nits from someone who has been fortunate enough to experience the best of diner food in America. Still, I'd place the food at three stars. It's the service that really earns New Holiday Diner it's fourth star. Because with two large tables, and a ton of kids, the waitress rocked this challenging order. Amazingly, perhaps the person who was happiest with their food ordered the eggs benedict. The food snobs around the table all thought ordering hollandaise sauce at a diner was a terrible idea. But she proved us wrong. Perhaps there are other unexpected gems on this menu too. Stopped here because of the reviews we read on yelp. 4 stars because, the staff was friendly, efficient and provided service with a smile. We were checked on often. I ordered eggs and turkey sausage. Which came with toast and hash browns. My husband ordered a burger that came with coleslaw and pickles. didn't come with fries. Odddddd The reason why it's 4 stars instead of 5. His burger was a frozen patty not fresh burger. coleslaw was tasty. My hash browns were cool and flavorless. Once again diner food par excellence - that is to say, meh. I should learn that breakfast is the only true test of a diner, since none of them can do much beyond that. Chicken & rice soup (bland and although only about 1pm, it looked like it had been cooking all day as it had a vague semblance of oatmeal), waffles and french toast (almost impossible to mess up, and they were fine), and a tuna melt (my personal diner test).
