I have worked at MUSC longer than the this cafe has existed. It's been reviewed in Yelp for 7 years. I never heard about it and only found it because my regular coffee joint- Bottleneck- took vacation the first week of January. Standing outside where my coffee truck usually stands, I went to Yelp for 'coffee near me' and found Hollings Cafe. I have even walked underneath the "cafe" arrow sign a dozen times or more without noticing it. This establishment is adorable and a bit quirky. The process is 'order now, pay later when your order is ready'. I arrived to find about 10 people standing around inside and in the hallway in no particular line and had to ask what is the process. All these kind people parted way for me to step right up to the counter to order- they already had. Someone in the line told me he calls ahead to place his order. Also the 'cafe' is located in sort of an alcove where one employee stands behind a short order prep area, and the other one stands at the register and takes orders. I ordered a black iced coffee and a house salad. The coffee was fine. Not Bottleneck level by any means, but solid nonetheless. The salad was fresh and delicious. As many reviewers have mentioned- there is something about the kindness that emanates from this place that will for sure bring me back. read more

When I was going through chemo my husband and I would visit the cafe while I was waiting for my appointment. The staff here was always smiling and would great us by name after a while and even remember what we would order regularly. If you had different preferences than the way the menu item came they would always be willing to change it up just how you liked it and you rarely had to wait a while before your order was ready. We ordered multiple different items as time went on and was always happy with the fresh ingredients and flavors. read more

I was recently a patient at Holling's but on surgery day was unable to have any food. While my family was discreet so as not to make me drool over the idea of a breakfast sandwich, I heard tell that this cafe had some amazing offerings. A couple weeks later it was time for my post op visit and couldn't resist the temptation to try it our for myself. It's a tiny little place packed with enormous deliciousness. The menu boards are full of sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages. As tasty as the food was, it was impossible to ignore the smiling faces on the staff. Every employee in the cafe seemed genuinely happy to be at work that day and so pleased to get me my order. My sandwich was just an egg salad with lettuce on white toast, but so fresh and very full. There is no place to sit in the cafe, but there are tables down the hall and a peaceful garden in the same area to enjoy your breakfast or lunch in. Holling's Cancer Center will likely never be on the top of anyone's list to just show up at, but if ever in the vicinity, it's worth seeking them out. Super clean, friendly staff, the owners run the business that always makes it better. At a turkey club on wheat it was fantastic the bread was beyond fresh. They have breakfast items soup sandwiches a daily special, I think they do hamburgers on Wednesday, they have tea and fountain drinks, as well as bottled beverages and some fast grab food items, as well as freshly made to order items. This is a small cafe located inside the hollings Cancer treatment center at MUSC. It's clean family run open during the week until 3 p.m. the prices are fantastic! read more

I volunteered to accompany a good friend to her surgery appointment down in Rutledge tower. We arrived at 6am and with her not being allowed to have coffee or food before surgery, there's no way I was stopping en route to rub it in her face. After she went in, I had a few hour wait ahead of me so I pulled up Yelp and was reminded that there was a cafe across the way in the Holling's Cancer Center. I don't often find myself walking around downtown before 10am so it was nice to take a stroll over and get out of the building. It's a very short jaunt down the road and is located right inside the main lobby of the building. Go up a half set of stairs and hang a left or just follow the delicious smells. It seems like they offer, breakfast and lunch to patients, family's and workers of the center. The greatest thing was that the staff was so friendly and welcoming. They knew all the staff members and their morning coffee orders by heart. Being in a place where people are likely to be having a rough day, I can't imagine the number of days this staff has turned around for people or at least added a smile to their morning. I ordered a breakfast burrito, a latte, and couldn't resist the Martinelli's Apple Juice. They don't have any seats in the cafe, but there's seating down the hall or take your food out to the garden as I did. It was very peaceful outside as I sat on my own listening to the fountains and people passed though on their way to work. Everything was tasty and the burrito was phenomenal. I hope there's no reason you're ever here, unless you're working and saving lives and such, but if you do, find solace in a breakfast burrito in the garden. Always greeted by the beautiful smile of Jose, the owner. I have tried almost everything on the menu excluding the items that contain pork products, and everything is super tasty and fresh and actually pretty healthy. I am so glad to have this spot near MUSC, after a long day at work it is nice to have the option to grab a meal made with love by the family owners (Jose wife and daughter are in charge of prepping the food, while Jose takes the orders). To note, this cafe follows restrictions for immunocompromised patients so u won't find raw food (even in their poke bowl special) and you can always bet that the food is prepared with the highest standards of hygiene and quality. read more

Unfortunately, I was/am a patient at Hollings Cancer Center. Fortunately, I was able to eat the Hollings Cafe breakfast burritos for every single chemo treatment day. They're THAT good! I've seen some buzz going around about their chicken and egg salad sandwiches as well, though I haven't tried them. I do recommend their smoothies; the mango one is perfect any time of day and one of the cheapest in town, $4.75. It'd be unacceptable for throngs of foodies to go marching into the Hollings Cancer Center in search of this tiny cafe. But if you are a patient with cafeteria-phobia, or work at MUSC, it's well worth a visit. read more

I haven't ever physically walked in to this cafe, but I have eaten their food on 5 or 6 occasions. (As a patient and as a visitor.) The menu they offer is small, but for a cancer center cafe it's great. Their turkey and cranberry sandwich is delicious as are their BLT and club sandwiches. The plain turkey sandwich that I had while undergoing treatment today was ok. They offer Coke and Pepsi products which is nice. You can get a sandwich, chips, and a soda for less than $10 which makes it affordable. Hopefully you'll never be a visitor or patient of Hollings, but if you are this cafe is a good break in the day. read more

Holling's Cafe is a small take out cafe hidden within the Holling's Cancer Center. The bacon pimento cheese English muffin breakfast sandwich is a reason to seek this place out. The crispy bacon is squished into a perfectly toasted muffin with delicious pimento cheese. Bliss. They also serve coffee, various breakfast items, ice cream, soups and sandwiches. The soups are homemade and the sandwiches are made to order. And the cook is a sweet lady who knows what she is doing. She makes lumpia on Tuesday and spring rolls on Friday. They are also worth the trek, even if you don't work at the hospital. Directions: When you enter the center, take a right and go up a shirt flight of stairs. It is then immediately to the left. If you pass radiation oncology, you have gone too far. read more

It's nice to have a cafe in the cancer center, especially given that visiting here is usually accompanied by stress. Finding something to eat during the interminably long days that we're here is so helpful The cafe is pretty basic - offering sandwiches and salads for lunch. I haven't had breakfast here so I cannot speak to its quality. The portion sizes here are generous, and the food is tasty. The employees are friendly. Unfortunately, there is no place to sit in the cafe, as they occupy a tiny space in a very full building. If you need a place to sit to eat, visit the gardens and enjoy your lunch in that serene area. I wish the cafe had a few more healthy food choices. read more

The owner and his staff are so polite and man you talk about excellent FOOD! These people make the best food out of all of MUSC. My wife and I ate every morning there for over 30 days in a row while she was being treated. I have much respect for this type of establishment. If you ever get the chance order the Sausage, Egg and Cheese sandwich. It is out of this world! I also love the Tea, Honey, and lemon made fresh before your eyes. These are my type of people. I absolutely love starting my morning off with visiting Mr. José and Ms. Wendy. They are always smiling and willing to assist. They know me by name and order :) I recommend everyone try the breakfast burrito, triple decker club, the egg salad sandwich, custom omelet, salad, or any of their daily lunch specials. Everything is always made fresh and to order. You will receive a punch card after you have spent $5 or more after the 10th punch (which is not hard to achieve because everything is so delicious) you get a discount off of your next purchase. If great food, laughter, and compassion is what you seek, then the Hollings Café is where you need to be. read more
