We live right down the street from Mercantile and Mash and finally stopped in for the first time and had a great experience. Honestly surprised we hadn't tried it sooner. There are a ton of breakfast options to choose from, whether you want something quick or a more sit down type of meal. Everything we had was solid, and the drinks were especially good. The space itself is also a big plus. Really nice ambiance, plenty of seating, and just an easy place to hang out for a bit. Only downside is the WiFi is not great, so probably not the best spot if you are trying to get work done for a few hours. Overall, definitely a spot we will be coming back to regularly. read more

Side note: You need to know your license plate number for the Honk app. I've been here a handful of times and the food has always been solid. I've had breakfast and lunch, and both meals were good. The restaurant is designed to order at a counter. Sit down with a number, and someone will bring out your food. They have a water station set up, so you can self serve. This is the perfect spot for a large group with kids to get coffee or enjoy a laid back breakfast. The lattes are top notch and several of our group commented the coffee was good. I recommend the baklava latte for a unique treat. The space is huge with several large tables inside and a few shaded picnic tables outside. We were able to let our kids run around while we enjoyed our food and drinks. Counter service made it easy for members of our group to arrive at different times without the stress of reservations. The space itself is very interesting as it is set in an old cigar factory. Plenty of parking as well. Can't ask for a more family friendly set up in Charleston. read more

A cozy, friendly spot that I'm so happy I found. First of all Robin is the exact person any company would be happy to have working for them. She is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, gregarious and has a sweet disposition and a wonderful smile. She steered us towards two great choices for breakfast: a breakfast sandwich and a breakfast wrap. The food is fantastic. The breakfast sandwich was piled so high and full, I had to deconstruct it and eat it with a fork and knife. The house made sourdough was griddled and buttery in a word it was perfect. The Breakfast wrap was also full of delicious fluffy scrambled local eggs and chorizo with house made salsa verde. The freshly ground and roasted coffee paired well with the mains. There was a bit of a rush and a line to order, but after a few minutes waiting and deciding what to get, someone opened another line to order and things started moving quicly. I ordered the fish tacos which came with a standard bag of chips. They have all the common brand as well as some different flavors. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the spring day and someone brought the food to our table promptly. The fish tacos were very delicious and not too filling. We ordered the kids grilled cheese with fries, 2 Reuben's on rye, fish tacos and the Buddha bowl. All was delicious and served fresh and made to order. FYI the Buddha bowl could use more veggie options besides a few small pieces of cauliflower. Added avocado and it was good. Too much quinoa in the bowl. Service was quick helpful and friendly. Unfortunately you don't get to choose what meats and cheeses you get but it was delicious. I also ordered a blueberry salad... when I say fresh I'm saying they must grow their produce in the back. Such a big fan of the farmhouse ambiance. And it's so unique that you can sit at the counter and watch the bakers/chefs do their work. It's soothing and inspiring to hang out here! Ordered a croissant in addition to coffee which had to be delivered from kitchen. Waited five minutes after getting coffee; asked on eta. Few people in restaurant. Asked barista another five minutes later who snapped and said she "couldn't leave her station" with no one in line. One very bad service encounter can undermine trust built over time. read more

Love this place! First time trying it for breakfast and was happily surprised by the food, service and ambience. Relaxed and casual and a great spot for a business meeting or grabbing a bite with friends. Outdoor tables and seating right on the premises and the parking lot is huge. Good workspaces inside so bring your laptop along~internet friendly. Mercantile and Mash is housed in the historic Cigar Factory Warehouse so the feel is real authentic Charleston. The Cigar Factory building is in the National Historical Register and dates back to 1881. There are Promos and Happenings every week including Donut Day on Wednesday and Weekly Specials each night at Bar Mash. A highlight at M&M are thr "made to order" specialty cakes which are on display and available to buy. The Strawberry Lemonade, Triple Chocolate and Birthday Cake flavors are just a few examples of their delights! Cake classes are available around the Holidays where you can join the pastry team and create a beautiful dessert! Tickets are limited. Breakfast and lunch and closing time is 4:00 pm. My matcha was majestic. I got the strawberry dragon fruit coconut matcha with almond milk. It really helped tone down the coconut because I'm not a fan of it, but the matcha was so good. I'll honestly be thinking about this. I got the yogurt bowl, too. It was amazing. The berry compote was extraordinary and I wish I took a picture it was so beautiful. Updating my review now that Ive been more regular at Merc and Mash! Ordered the same salad 3 days in a row this week and it was a very good seasonal salad. Lots of fresh produce and very delicious! However all three days I was given a different consistency. Some days it was a packed salad and others it was nearly empty. A bit upset I ordered avocado on my salad and paid extra for it and on my last day ordering the salad was given a very obvious rotten avocado. It not only looked bad, but smelt awful. I just wish a little attention would've been paid when placing it on the salad or if there were no good avocados I would've been fine without! I'll keep the stars high because everybody is very friendly and it's usually pretty good, but definitely looking for more consistency and better quality check of produce- especially when the salad came to over $20! This hidden gem down on East Bay is absolutely adorable. With a large coffee menu catering to both coffee and tea drinkers there's lots to choose from. Both sandwiches were delicious and huge portions, but I'll come back for the fried chicken. It was spicy and sweet and the slaw gave it a fresh punch. The service was very friendly and pretty quick too. They give you a number at the counter and then bring your food to your table. The space is large and great for groups or a work date by yourself. They have wine, specialty sodas and other specialty non perishable items for sale such as candy, chips, etc. They also bake specialty cakes in house as well as other pastries. A decidedly new school business, this hall holds a bar, a market of upscale local food and beverages, a cafe, and a restaurant, in effect. The upstairs of the building appeared to be an event space. I came seeking food. I ordered the falafel pita with some trepidation; this is not a falafel kind of town and I could have easily imagined that it would not come out well. However, it was a rather magnificent-looking pita full of crisp greens, and my falafel tasted freshly fried and yet remarkably soft and moist on the inside. The lemon and feta flavorings came through strongly, and unlike a lot of falafel sandwiches, it wasn't drowning in smear-y sauce or loaded with useless, tasteless filler vegetables (I'm looking at you, cucumber). A really excellent sandwich, and ordering curly fries on the side was a good decision (though the ketchup was pointless). I wasn't quite enthused with their drink selection (there's a million cafes in Charleston), though I could see trying it, and while I had plenty of time to peruse the market, I did not see, for example, any chips or bottled/canned beverages with flavors that I actually wanted, so I may have to check out some bigger stores. I assume the wifi has a password, but no one shared it with me and I wasn't there long enough for it to matter. Given that others were sitting there working, there must be a way of finding it out. A popular work remote spot that offers coffee, food and pastry. They have an open kitchen and shared tables. Beautiful space with a shared free parking lot. I went with a soup and sandwich. The cantaloupe gazpacho caught my eye. Man this was probably the most tastiest thing I ate in my entire trip of Charleston. It's sort of a liquid version of prosciutto and melon. The smoky green EVOO offset with cucumbers and tomato in a creamy cantaloupe base was so good! Magical! If I could do it again, get a bowl. The banh mi was too dry and I really wouldn't call it a banh mi, it really needs to on a baguette to give it that crispy and and light texture. It was also pretty small (about the size of the spoon), probably opt for another sandwich. I had a taste of the dirty Chai and it had way to much cinnamon. However, German chocolate cake was really nice. Good texture and nice amount of sweetness that isn't overpowering especially the chewy coconut layer. I could also taste the chocolate cake.
