I went to Holloways to purchase a gas oven range. My brother had a good experience with them, so I gave them a try. I was expecting a higher degree of customer service compared to the big box stores, but I was disappointed. I knew which oven I wanted so the Salesperson simply ordered it and the next step was to wait for the subcontracted appliance installer to contact me. Installation went fine, no problems. Unfortunately, in just a few weeks' time, the oven began malfunctioning. I contacted the manufacturer, did the due diligence, but ultimately, the oven needed to be replaced. I contacted Holloways and again, the lack of customer service/empathy rubbed me the wrong way. It was as if they were put out for having to replace a malfunctioning appliance for which was not inexpensive. Second installation of the oven range was done by a different contracted team and they struggled, for some reason, to get the oven in the space. There was a fair amount of time adjusting and leveling, etc. In the process they pulled off the kick plate trim below my lower cabinets. The installer guy said he would have to come back to put it back on. Well, needless to say, after several texts and a phone call to Holloways, he still has not returned to fix what they broke. Holloways was a place I would recommend to others and was often the first place I would check when seeking a new appliance. That changed with my most recent purchase. I ordered a washer from Holloways. The sales person knew very little about the machine and handed me a pile of spec sheets as an answer to my questions. I bought the washer based on reviews from others, as the information from my salesperson was limited. I was ready for the delivery and made it as easy as possible. First issue was the washer would not fit through the basement doorway. Every other purchase from Holloways came with a request to measure to ensure nothing would prevent delivery. The delivery personnel had to take the unit back and I had to reschedule. In the process of bringing the unit in and then back out, the washer was scratched on both sides. I don't care too much about the scratches, but it is an indication of the lack of attention to protecting someone's home and purchase. The second delivery attempt was made and I cleared my basement and removed a panel wall to allow the delivery to take place using the hatchway. The delivery personnel refused due the very thin layer of snow on the grass. Fine. I asked them to put the unit in my garage and assemble the pedestal and washer. Instead, they put the washer in the garage, hoped in the truck and left. No assembly work was completed. On top of that they did not remove the broken washer I was replacing. I had to remove and discard the old unit, move the new unit to my basement, and complete the assembly and hook up on my own. In their haste to leave, they did not provide the screws to attach the hardware for the pedestal and washer. I have since found some of the sheet metal screws in my driveway. There are 22 screws that are missing. I have found seven. I will be submitting all damaged tire claims to Holloways for reimbursement. The delivery team left the screws in my driveway, so they are responsible. On top of the delivery experience at least one of the delivery personnel smelled like marijuana. It is legal in CT, but I don't want to smell it in my home. When I spoke with Steve the manager today, he had no idea why I was calling even though a sales person provided him with the background. He basically seemed bothered that I returned his call. The warehouse manager applied a credit to my card for my trouble. I certainly appreciate the partial refund, but I can no longer recommend Holloways based on my experience. read more

We purchased a Dacor refrigerator in July that arrived quickly but had a dented door. The delivery guy told us to take the fridge and the door would be replaced soon. We have been calling Holloway's customer service manager Steve repeatedly regarding the status. All he can tell us is that he spoke to the company and it's on order - this is now October. I purchased a Whirlpool oven from this place. This was a nightmare from the very beginning. Where to start. #1. The salesman either lied to me or didn't have a clue about whether or not the stove would work during a power outage which was a caveat for my purchase. I didn't find out until the power went out a year later and the stove in fact didn't have that capability. #2. One of the burners never worked properly because there was apparently a missing part that I didn't find out about until the oven was installed in my home. I was going back and forth with the installer about the replacement part until one day he stopped returning my calls all together and never got the part. #3. The stove itself is 4 years old and the back control panel is apparently plastic and has melted so badly, the buttons are literally brittle, cracking, and will probably not be functional very soon. #4. Apparently there are rings around the burner knobs and they are also made of plastic and ALSO melting. #5. The burner markings on the stove to indicate which knob goes to which burner, have also completely deteriorated so you can't tell which burner you're controlling. This stove is an absolute piece of trash. Whirlpool and Holloway's should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Don't shop here and don't buy Whirlpool. read more

This is exactly why you go to a local store. They were everything I could have asked for, efficient, friendly, competitive and upfront. I got help immediately early on a Saturday morning and it took around five minutes for the very helpful salesman, Gary, to locate exactly the dishwasher I needed and quote me a phenomenal price, better than any I had seen online. He was also careful to mention that installation was an extra fee and that the installers were contractors of theirs. I decided to buy that day although I was really just planning to find out what they might have given supply constraints related to COVID. I had to leave the store and run this by my family (Gary was very patient about this). When I got back the store was hopping busy (around 11AM) so I waited maybe 3-4 more minutes for another very helpful salesman, Chad, (Gary was tied up but got someone to help me ASAP) to write up the order for me. I would like to ad that I am puzzled by people who said they could not get assistance. There is a large desk area at the very center of the store. The Buying Experience: When we moved into our home the only item we needed was a washer and dryer. I did my research on Consumer Reports and online and determined what I wanted. Went down to Holloway's and S.K. Lavery in one day to see what they could do for prices. The service that I got at Holloway's was really what swayed me (S. K. Lavery was willing to price match, but I just didn't get a good feeling from them, so we headed back to Holloway's). I felt like they wanted to help us, not just take our money. They were knowledgeable about the nuances of the model we wanted (that had it's own hot water heater), and ensured that it was actually in stock and available. The Delivery Experience: Two Holloway employee's (that matters to me, that they aren't just day contractors) arrive. I think there was a window of time that I was given, but I can't honestly recall exactly, I just know when I expected them, they were there. The switched around the doors how they needed to go, man handled them into the basement where they needed to be (carefully without dinging anything up) and then set about connecting everything, testing everything and then going over the basics of how they worked with me. I picked up on that they knew a certain trick to easily get a particular hook-up to go easily, so it was obvious to me that this is what they were doing all day every day and instilled confidence that they knew what they were doing. After looking for appliances at all the local box stores- Lowe's, Home Depot and Sears we decided to try somewhere local. Halloway's is located on the other end of town from us but was certainly worth the drive. Upon entering the store there are many brands of appliances - GE, Viking, Whirlpool, and others. At the time we had lost all of our appliances due to a major storm so we wanted something that would match. The customer service was outstanding and they recommended a couple different brands & styles. One style caught our eye and we were given a nice price since we were buying 3 appliances at the same time. I received no call, checked my phone log which confirmed that point and when I told salesperson that fact he laughed! When asked why he was laughing he simply said "we called." We have purchased from Holloways for years and they always get it right to the smallest detail. I had a refrigerator delivered recently and loaned the installer a tape measure that was convenient. He must have inadvertently taken it back to his truck--no big deal. I called when I saw the measure was missing and service promised they would look into. I figured that was the end of that--again no big deal. 10 days later the store called, said they couldn't find the measure and would deliver a new one to me, which they just did. These stores are so busy these days trying to fulfill orders and Holloways took the time to replace a tape measure? I am even more impressed. We just moved to the area and needed a new dryer to replace the one that our house came with. I was so happy to find that Holloways had a better price, delivery and removal of the existing dryer than one of the big chains. We always shop local when we can. We had our dryer installed and it was terrific. A year had passed and of course the warranty had just expired. We kept getting a code d80 on the display - clogged lint filter/ exhaust. I cleaned the filter area with the vacuum and cleaned out the vent line to the exterior of the house. I was surprised after all of that we continued to get the code. Holloway's wanted us to pay for a service call for any help, so I looked online and read about lint build up inside the dryer. I wasn't born and bred in Simsbury, so my first instinct wasn't to automatically pay someone else to do it for me. I took it upon myself (because of no warranty) to take the cover off only to discover they never hooked up the vent hose to the inside of the dryer. From the outside it looked fine, but inside, the elbow for our side exhaust was never connected to the internal exhaust line. So over a years worth of lint had been filling up the inside of my dryer. It was stuffed. From what I read, it can be all inside the heating element and around the drum. to this day we can't run it on high temperature or it shuts off. I'm not mechanical enough to go in and disect a dryer. I called to explain and of course got nothing. Not a concern and certainly not an apology. I just know we assumed it'd be installed correctly. We have no proof it was our fault or theirs. I just know we didn't touch it until we got the d80 error. So needless to say when we went to remodel our kitchen with new double ovens, sinks, stovetop, dishwasher, microwave and a new washer...we drove right by Holloway's. It was so disappointing. I have spent thousands of dollars at Holloways over the last 20 years, but that is stopping TODAY. I bought a Webber grill that DOES NOT WORK! When we called Holloways they told us it was a Webber issue and we should call them. We explained that we bought an expensive BROKEN grill from them but they still told us Webber has to deal with it. Very annoyed and frustrated with this awful customer service. The grill was bought from Holloways, but they will NOT fix the problem. Don't buy from Holloways and especially don't buy a Webber grill. We have been customers of Holloway's for years. We have never had a bad experience. The appliances were delivered in a timely fashion and their employees were professional. Just before Thanksgiving we realized we needed a new range, since we were hosting Thanksgiving. Since 2 other appliances were 16 years old and showing signs of failing we purchased a dishwasher and microwave also. Gary was very helpful helping us make a decisions. Gary was able to find an electrician that was able to install the next day, 2 days before the holiday. We are VERY satisfied with our new appliances. Last week our 3 yr. old refrigerator had a problem. The compressor is failing and we were informed that even when replaced (under warranty)there still is a problem with this model. We went to Gary expecting to buy a new refrigerator.(assumed it was a life reality). He immediately called the representative for the company. He felt a 3 year old refrigerator should be able to be repaired successfully or replaced with a discount. After 2 days of negotiations with company rep. we were informed that we are getting a NEW refrigerator...... "no charge ". The best we were hoping for was help with the repair or a discount on a new one. Before we knew solution Gary helped us decide on possible option and gave us price estimates that were lower than we had seen. I purchased an LG Front Loading Washer and Dryer Combo from Holloway's in Simsbury August 9, 2013. I was aiming to purchase the combo in early July, but the LG Dryer was on back order and instead of going to Best Buy, Sears, HD, Lowes, etc. I waited because I would rather support a local business than the Big Box stores. What a mistake that turned out to be; it doesn't seem that the people at Holloway's value small business support from their customers. After speaking with Gary on the phone I stopped in and spoke with his father who was very helpful, but being loyal, I wanted to remain with the salesperson who initially helped me. I narrowed it down to an Electrolux or LG WD dryer combo. Gary told me they are both good. He had the Electrolux at his house and another salesperson had the LGs and he was happy with them. Beyond that I had to ask Gary to "sell me" on some features and benefits (testimonials only do so much) which he finally did. The dryer finally came in and the pair was delivered. The installers did not bring two sets of pliers to help get the cold water connector off. I did not have pliers that fit and the installer said (after I spent 10 minutes trying different tools I had) "I really have to get going, I still have more stops after you" in an annoyed voice. Well guess what! Bring the right tools the next time you amateurs! Your mistake is not my problem! First use: The dryer chime sounds as bad as a 5 year old playing the clarinet for the first time. Not a major problem, but not a good sign and I called to have it fixed. First week, the washer leaks all over the floor from the bottom of the machine. I call Holloway's again and was more than nice to them, reluctantly agreeing to have a brand new machine repaired. They send a guy named Rich out. Rich can't find the leak, doesn't have the part to fix the dryer chime so tells me to less two tablespoons of soap. Funny, I was using the minimum amount of high efficiency soap LG recommends and my plumbing was completely redone without any flaws. Washer leaks a second time all over the floor after using less than half the recommended amount of soap. Rich replaces the dryer motherboard. I have now had the washer for less than two months, washer leaks a third time. I asked Holloway's to replace it with a new washer. They cannot since they claim the the repairman cannot find a problem. There is definitely a problem, the repairman is just not able to diagnose it. They expect me to miss another day of work to have a repairman come to the house. Steve at Holloway's refuses to replace the washer, saying that Lg needs to know the name of the problem. What don't they get??? The problem is the washer leaks all over the floor! Spending 2000k does not matter to them. They do not value their customers. Update: Holloway's reluctantly replaced the washer and it's been leak free for an entire two weeks, but the other leaking washer had "No" problem according to them. Mike E. Came in on Saturday at 1:00 was there until 1:45. Not one person of the 5/6 working there acknowledged me. I am redoing a kitchen and plan to replace all appliances. One gentleman at the front desk was helping someone and the other was on the computer. Three others were sitting at the back counter - no customers. After circling the store twice, all sales people except one woman were with customers - she was scrolling through her cell. Again...so much for trying to support a local business. I had always heard great things about Halloways and wanted to go to a local business for good customer service. We were SADLY disappointed. We went in to buy a high end oven. Three salespeople were at the desk when we walked in they all just stared at us . No "hello" or " how can we help you"? We inquired if they had any Miele ovens. One man literally grunted and pointed behind him. We walked over and started looking, no one came over.After opening a few oven doors and fiddling with the some buttons I asked if we could have some assistance. Instead of helping us one woman called over the PA for someone else to come over. After 2-3 minutes we were still left by ourselves and walked out. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL . We drove 35 minutes to go there. So sad. We will be taking our $15,000 purchases to another dealer. I don't care how far I have to drive I am so utterly disappointed with our experience @ Halloways. Thank you for your response Mindy . I wish what you wrote was true, unfortunately, there was more to the story that I left off in the initial review . A gentleman came in after us and asked about some appliance . He got the same absence of assistance and he said something along the lines of " hey is anyone gonna help me?" After that the man who grunted at us got up and helped him . That is what prompted me to then ASK for help. We were the only people initially in the store . If they were busy with other customer issues then they should have greeted us asked what we needed and said I send some one over . I doubt this is news to them on how to work at a front desk/reception area or be a salesperson. I was tremendously disappointed with customer service or really lack of any service at all!! I called ahead to make sure they had the model ranges that we wanted to look at and told Paul that I was bringing my 86 year old mother and wanted to make sure that they were available. When we arrived and started looking at the ranges no one came over. I inquired about Paul and someone pointed to him. He was with another customer and saw us and said he would be there in a minute. As time passed I saw him with a new customer for 15 minutes and in the mean time NO ONE came over to even check on us. Finally I found a place for my mother to sit down and went to find Paul - he was back with the original customer and said he was sorry but someone else should have come over. I said it would have been nice since he knew she was 86 for him to have ensured that someone was taking care of us!!! He said it wasn't his fault or his problem and then had a smirk on his face. When I asked about the other customer in the middle, he just said that he "jumped the queue" - that doesn't just happen. He allowed it. I wanted to believe that given the other posts that management would have put in place some measures to ensure better customer service, but apparently they don't seem to care. It was 40 minutes total and no one EVER approached us. Instead we went to Best Buy and got great customer service from Dan including offering a cart for my mother to lean on and lower prices, faster delivery and a five year service agreement. read more

We try very hard to shop local it is important to us, i walked in and Mr. Holloway spoke to me for quite awhile about my choices. My husband and I went back a few days later and spoke to JIm- we completely changed our minds on style and manufacturer. This store was recommended to us so we decided to give it a try,and drive the 40 minutes to get there...We purchased a GE washer/dryer combo and a VERY nice salesperson Bill helped us...After one month give or take a day the washer no longer works. It will take a week for someone from GE to come out just to asses what's wrong(and 4 hours off from work) to see if we get to have one that works..wow...after that...if it can't be fixed we will have to have another one delivered! and I'm guessing from having to wait a week for the first one to come it will take that long to get another ...with more time off from work and now two weeks of Laundromat fees! We looked at a Speed Queen washer that was on the floor by itself..It was purchased by a friend of Bill's(he told us)...and it broke very early into him owning it..in which Holloway's took it back...repaired it put it back on the floor for sale (reasonable) and gave him a new one....AWESOME......for that guy.....it pays to have friends there I guess! because SADLY we did not have the same experience... I am NOT saying not to shop there..this is our experience with this company,and it was not a positive one......I am saying that my lesson is learned...to keep my business local in my town,the store here is a bit more expensive but after a only a month of use YOU GET A NEW ONE that works no questions or inconvenience to the customer ... We went to Holloways a few times in search of our kitchen appliances. Their competitive prices, excellent brand names, and private ownership drew us there. (I'm always a fan of supporting local stores over big box stores). We ended up spending over $9000 on kitchen appliances. You would think that we would have received stellar customer service, but we did not. After purchasing our appliances, we returned to the store to look at their faucet options and pick up our blower. We wandered around looking at the faucets on display and then finally stood at the counter in the center of the store for 15 minutes. No one came over to ask if we needed help. Mind you, there was a salesman seated behind the counter helping another customer. He never once stopped to ask if he should summon additional help. Glancing around the store, I watched as another salesman stood at the back counter chatting with a coworker. I finally asked my fiancé to go and ask a salesperson to assist us. Interestingly, we noticed that as other customers entered the store, they quickly jumped to attention and rushed around to help them. In the end, we walked away without selecting a faucet. When we finally had our appliances delivered, the delivery men scratched a 4 1/2" deep gouge into our brand new kitchen cabinets and broke a light bulb while carrying the appliances up the stairs. The light bulb was no big deal; the delivery guy told us about it and cleaned it up. As for the gouge, neither guy said a word about it and I didn't notice it until a few hours later. Suddenly, I realized why I had heard one of them cuss when they were carrying our appliances up. When we called the store to complain, my fiancé spoke to the delivery manager. He asked if we were sure that his guys had made the gouge because they hadn't said anything to him! He said that they had told him about breaking a light bulb. My fiancé said that we were 100% sure that his guys had gouged the cabinet panel. The gouge was not there before! He said the one delivery guy denied knowing anything about it and the other one was off that day. He said that he would pay for repair of the gouge. He said to have whomever was going to repair the gouge call him. My contractor who installed the cabinets tried to fill the gouge and paint it. It is not the same as it was before. The gouge is still visible. We are very upset. Also, why should my contractor call him?! He should be asking us how he can make this right! He should have asked us for our contractor's contact info so that he can fix this! read more

We wanted to support a local Simsbury business. We purchased a washing machine for our 90 year old mother's home. It was installed on Friday afternoon along with new braided stainless steel water lines that we had requested to replace the old water hoses. We first tried it Saturday morning. We tried to wash delicate red table linens on the cold wash cycle and it ran with very hot water which caused the dyes to run. I called Holloway's on Saturday morning and was told that nothing could be done until Monday, and was given a warranty repair number in Massachusetts that was also not available until Monday. After trying to figure out what was wrong I pulled the machine out and realized that the hot and cold water lines were hooked up backwards (hot to cold intake, and cold to hot intake). I purchased a complete set of kitchen appliances from Halloways rather than the big box store because I expected superior customer service. The sales people were friendly and helpful. I explained that the gas range needed to be set up for LP and was told that this would be no problem. The range was delivered set for natural gas and no mention was made of the store making arrangements for the LP conversion. My contractor offered to do the conversion for me since we needed the oven for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately the Contractor made an error that resulted in a malfunction of the oven burner. I contacted Halloways customer service and was told that they could have their contracted service person come out and take a look at it in a couple of weeks at my expense. I had no problem paying for the service but I would have thought that they would want to expedite it since they should have anticipated the need for the service at the time of delivery. (They had plenty of advance notice of the delivery and never mentioned the need to arrange for a service call to make the conversion.) the service person I spoke with said he hated "to play the blame game" but said that this was the contractor's responsibility. As far as I'm concerned, if you're in the business of selling appliances then you should deliver an appliance to your customer that he can use - or at least explain what he needs to do to make it usable. I found the customer service representative to be unhelpful and his tone to be arrogant. read more

Friends recommended your store so in April, 2018 I purchased a new GE fridge and stove. The sales person was very nice and the appliances were delivered on April 18th as promised but while unloading the fridge the freezer door was scratched and I was told then they would replace it. Well over a month went by and I called to ask about it and Steve said they didn't know it was scratched but would get me another door. OK another month goes by and no call saying when it would be delivered so made another call to find out they have the door but can't seem to find time to deliver it. Last Friday there is a message on my phone at 11:45 AM from Brian saying he would be in the area and if I was home he could come and if not would schedule another time. Here it is a week later and no call yet as to when they will deliver my door. I call this poor customer service since this was not my problem to start with. I hope someone calls soon. Janet read more
