I had the very worst experience here - so surprised after all the raves. I had an older woman who absolutely hacked at my nails - both toes and fingers and it hurt! I get my nails and toes done frequently and never had the pain that I received during this experience. When I flinched - she told me she had been doing nails for 25 years - as if I should be ashamed of insulting her by flinching. Then, she tells me my choice of color for my toes won't work for my nails and uses a lighter color - it was a bad choice, looks lousy with my tan. After she filed my nails down to nothing and unevenly filed them down to nothing, she proceeded to have a long conversation with her daughter who had plopped down beside me - in a language that was not English. She barely paid attention to painting my nails. Needless to say, they chipped the next day. DO NOT GO HERE....unless you manage to get someone else besides this woman. What a bummer. People go to the nail salon not just for a good mani/pedi but also for a good overall experience. I've enjoyed every time I've come to Hollywood Nails. Mike is awesome, Long is very meticulous and Nancy makes sure everyone is ok. I had been going here every Thursday for the past year with my friend for $10 manicures. It was a great tradition. This was my first time in this salon. I was walking by and remembered that a friend told me how good it was. It was early so I was lucky to be taken right away. It was an excellent experience! I absolutely love this place. I'm a student, and when I moved to Lakeview from West Town I thought there was no way I'd find a reasonable nail salon close by. But I've found it in Hollywood Nails! It's so affordable that I go in once every couple weeks, despite the fact that I'm a student. They do an excellent job with pedicures, manicures, and full sets (Nancy is the one that does full sets and no-chip, she's awesome). But what really makes me come back again and again is the service. Everyone is really personable, and make it a point to find out/remember your name. They're BYOB, so I've gone with some girlfriends to drink wine and have our toes done. And if it's not too busy, they're really nice about letting you relax in the pedicure chairs and chilling out for however long you want. I will certainly be a long-time customer. read more

I am so sad to write this review because the people who work here are truly so awesome and friendly! But the manicure... oh man, that manicure. It was, hands down, the worst manicure I've ever gotten. If only their personalities were what gave the manicure it would've been amazing. Instead, I walked out with no chip polish all over my cuticles and skin. And, of course, while attempting to get some of the polish off my skin, the polish also came off the edges of my nails. Last year I went to this location for a quick manicure before a friend's wedding. I sat down in the seat and had a older gentlemen file my nails. I had been wanting to do 'no-chip' and decided to give it a go. It was then decided that the lady (I believe the owner) was going to do the 'no-chip'. I kept mentioning to them that I had a wedding to get to and now I have been in the seat for 45 minutes and would like to get the process started. The owner continued to file my nails and randomly get up from my service and leave for 5 minutes at a time. I then stated I was in a hurry and had to leave in 15 minutes. She promised she would have me done in time. I originally requested a French Mani. She proceeded with the clear OPI gel, switching my hands in the UV light, then as my french she used a standard white polish and topped it off again with the OPI gel. Finally I'm done but it only took 1 1/2 hrs. No chips for 2 weeks...Sigh, I was wrong. My nails were chipping by the end of the night. Now I'm a bit mad because I paid $40 something from a manicure and it didn't even last as long as a standard polish. I called the salon on Monday afternoon and was told I could come in for a touch up. I stopped by there on my way home from work and the owner looked at my nails again and proceeded to used the same white polish to cover the chips. Geez they just can't seem to get it right and someone should have stopped her. I really wanted to like this place, it is only a few blocks from my house. But now that I am well versed in 'no chips' now I know her first mistake was using a polish with a gel. They offered a free manicure for my troubles but don't feel like giving them another chance. Decided to come here and give them a fair shot. I live close to this nail shop. Super disappointed and won't be returning. When walking in one person said Hi and everyone else just looked at me. This girl took an hour and a half to do a no chip on my regular nails. Her name was Rose she was lazy, on her phone and just slow. She was unprofessional texting while I was waiting to get my nails done. She foiled my current nails to take off my no chip and I sat there for almost 10 minutes which is NEVER necessary. She tells me oh it's probably not ready I told her I'm sure it was and it was. Then, she cut my nails, cleaned them and pulled out cold water for me to soak my nails in. I asked for warm water she brought not even slightly warm water then told me there was no warm water which was a lie. When I washed my hands there was very warm water. This took an hour and my nails hadn't even been polished yet. One thing I didn't understand is why they didn't have the no chip colors available on nails. When I chose one it was ugly and we had to try another and I didn't like that one. By the time we got to that decision it had been an hour. When she went to go get the 2nd color it took her 5 minutes because she stopped to have a conversation with another lady in the shop after I told her I had some where to be. Overall she did a horrible job, I'll never go back. I was so upset. Never in my life has it taken an hour and a half to get a no chip. It's not like I had gel or acrylic nails or anything like that. Rose who did my nails acted as doing my nails, spending my money, was an inconvenience to her time and social life. Then she gave me a receipt not even allowing me to tip. It was beyond ridiculous. This place was unprofessional, rude and just overall a place that danes to do your nails. Don't go here. read more

Horrible mani and pedi! The polish on nails wasn't even, didn't cover the nail all the way, started peeling off the next day. The pedicure... terrible job on exfoliating my feet, and they were not even that bad considering I get a pedicure every 2 weeks. The polish was applied so sloppily. Nancy and her THREE sons are the nicest family in the world. They treat my 87 yr old Mother like she is THEIR grandmother every time she comes there. It's like a family reunion, I swear. The service is excellent. Nancy is extremely gentle with brow and bikini wax. You won't be sorry or in pain. I don't know how she does it. The new shop on Cornelia is a beautiful improvement over the old one on Broadway, if a little tiny. If you're worried about being turned away, just call Nancy on her cell. and they will TELL you when to come in. Family has to drive in from Glenview every day, so yes, the shop isn't always open in the am when they say it will. But they make it up to you in service and in price.
