We had a great time watching the World Cup final soccer game between Spain and Argentina here. We ordered three appetizers to share: nachos, Mexican street fries and chicken wings. The portions were large and more than enough for the four of us. The chips in the nachos were fresh and crisp and I really liked the crema. It could have used a bit more spice (I.e. hot sauce). The fries were good, but weren't crispy. The buffalo chicken wings were my favorite. They were tangy with a subtle kick. For a drink, I had the Island Breeze. It was balanced margarita with a hint of pineapple and coconut. It was very good. We were staying at the town and country for a dance convention tonight before we ate at Arlo and we definitely take lapper over Arlo anytime minus the service. The general waiters and service staff didn't really know what they're doing and kind of walking around aimlessly. You're sitting there for 25 minutes so I just went up to the Barr staff to order. She was absolutely wonderful extremely helpful food came out quick service was fantastic. She was killing it. They could probably benefit from having a team lead to organize everything more efficiently. There was a manager there, but he was more reactive than proactive. Food: the burgers were actually quite good chicken was decent price relatively decent too. Things came out of the kitchen fast and hot. Was talked into going for the Wednesday line dancing.... So glad I did! so much fun!!! People and kids of all ages, all sizes, all walks of life, just dancing and having fun. Staff was very short handed... only down fall. Hoping it was just a one off situation. They have a lot of good happy hour deals as well as line dancing menu. We've come a few times for their game day specials and happy hour. The service has always been great. Food has been good. We checked their website before coming down to watch a Padres game and their site had their special menus still up. When we came, our waitress said they no longer offer game day specials. Annoying because this was one of our spots during football and baseball season that we'd frequent because they had great deals. Also that the website still advertised these specials but it was not updated. Our waitress was still great. Food was fine. I hope they update their site soon in order to prevent more confusion. I opted for the pizza and a soft drink (Dr. Pepper), and tried a few of the fries. The pizza was neither spectacular, nor bad. Just okay -- though it did have plenty of toppings. As far as service goes, our waitress checked in on us maybe once while we were there, but we didn't mind, since we didn't need anything. Would I eat here again? I visited The Lapper on Wednesday, August 13 for a night of line dancing and drinks with friends and it was just what I needed to break up the week. It's located inside the Town and Country Hotel & Convention Center in Mission Valley, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the vibe is always so fun and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dan, the line dancing instructor, is fantastic--super friendly, encouraging, and keeps the energy high. Whether you're a beginner or just there to enjoy the music, it's a great time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is great for a midweek unwind. Good music, great people, and plenty of space to let loose and dance the night away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That said, my only critique is the bar service. This isn't the first time I've noticed the bartenders seeming a little... irritated, almost like ordering a drink is an inconvenience. One of my friends asked the bartender what his favorite drink was, just to be friendly, and he just stared at her with no response. I get that it's a long shift, and we all have tough days, but in this industry, attitude really does matter. These days, people are more selective about where they spend their money, and hospitality makes a difference. A helpful tip for first-timers: there is no valet parking, but they do offer free self-parking as long as you get your ticket validated at the venue you're visiting (like The Lapper). The policy has recently changed--you don't go to the hotel front desk for validation anymore. Just head to the venue directly and they'll take care of it. Ate here for lunch during a conference. We slammed the restaurant. They were not equipped to handle the large number of us. I missed most of the first talk after lunch. After the Long wait in line (15+min) I waited a crazy long time for the food. The salad with salmon was good. The fries were fresh and good but needed a little more time in the fryer. Our waiter took pity on us and gave us some chips to hold us over. We also waited for the check but the bartender Ian helped out. He took the appetizer and drinks orders right away and there wasn't too long of a wait for either. He also was patient with some of us because we couldn't decide on what to order. Everything looked too good. I started with the BBQ chicken wings. They were crispy and tossed in a smoky sauce that had just a bit of a bite, but not so spicy where it would've rivaled buffalo sauce. There was enough sauce to coat everything, so there weren't any wings that didn't have any. I had the Watermelon Arugula Salad. It was so light and refreshing. It was definitely summer on a plate. The sweetness of the watermelon, strawberry, and cucumber were perfectly balanced with the balsamic Vinaigrette and mini mozzarella balls. I also had an order of sweet potato fries. My only gripe was that I forgot to ask for no salt. Some of the fries had so much on them that the salt overpowered the flavor. Otherwise they were delicious. The others in my party said they loved their meals. I just wish I got pictures of the food. If I ever get the chance to come out this way, I'll be back to try something new. read more

Service was a bit spotty...we confirmed our reservation 3 times and when we arrived, they didn't have it but we were thankfully easily seated. The Lapper has become one of my favorite spots on Wednesday nights thanks to the line dancing lessons with Dan Moon. He makes the lessons fun and approachable for all levels, and creates such a great sense of community. That said, I do think there are a few areas that could be improved. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In the past, lessons were sometimes held outside on the turf, which gave everyone plenty of room to dance. Lately, most lessons have been inside the bar. While the setup works, it can get crowded, hot, and a little confusing since it's often advertised as being on the turf.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The turf option really does make learning easier and more enjoyable. I also feel the bar staff could work on their hospitality. A friendly, welcoming vibe goes a long way, especially on line dancing night when so many new faces are coming in. Dan sets the standard with his energy and inclusivity--if the bar team matched that, it would make the whole experience even better. I haven't had a chance to order the food yet. I'll order the food sometime soon and i'll try to write a review that . Overall, I look forward to Wednesdays here every week and hope to see some of these small changes so the Lapper can really shine. read more

My friends had their wedding here and it was such a cute place located inside the Town and Country Hotel. When we arrived, we traded our parking tickets for a validated one, so that was very easy and efficient! They had the entire inside space, patio, and outside area as well. There was an omelette station in the patio, which some people didn't know that it was part of the event. The donut station was pretty cool- you can add your favorite toppings without an attendant! Other food that was offered were the following items: avocado toast, chilaquiles, roasted chicken, ricotta tortellini, organic baby field lettuces, chocolate fudge brownies, and blondies. The food was tasty and very filling! The staff was very nice and friendly, going out of their way to get hot sauce for one of my friends LOL. The bartenders were a bit slow though. A drink would take at least 15 minutes to make and they weren't even that great. I liked that there was cornhole and a ping pong table to keep us entertained as well. Lapper Kitchen & Bar is the last business to debut in the new lineup of on-site eateries at the Town and Country Hotel in Mission Valley. The structure is essentially a large clubhouse adjacent to the swimming pool in the courtyard of the property. You can park in the deck and have the ticket validated by the hostess. I came here twice over the past few months, once for dinner and most recently for a private event. The menu was typical of a bar and grill with burgers, nachos, pizzas, salads, sandwiches, tacos, and wings as featured items. Of the three entrees, I picked the Chicken Frites for my dinner. A grilled chicken breast covered in white barbecue sauce was served with sea salt fries, baby squash, and zucchini. White sauce is not found in SoCal very often as it's a signature product of the deep South, specifically Alabama. The sauce's mayonnaise and vinegar base elevated the flavors of a pretty basic dish of meat and vegetables. The place was quite large with several TV screens mounted above the center bar. The capacity to easily host a couple of hundred people was a key factor in why my friends chose this venue for their wedding reception. Between the setting, service, and food, I felt a four star rating was justified for my two experiences at the Lapper. read more

The ahi tuna salad was disappointing. FYI, the "salad" base is essentially coleslaw/carrots. I was expecting fresh salad/veggies, not something covered in mayo. The ahi itself was fine, nothing to write home about. I tasted someone else's fries and potato fries and they weren't crispy enough for my liking. Service wise could have been better as well. I was at the Town and Country resort for a conference and tried this place out a couple of times and totally loved it! The sweet potato fries were seasoned to perfection and had just the perfect amount of crisp to it. I also tried the beyond burger and it was very flavorful. One small drawback was that they had put a little too much butter on the bun which makes it a little difficult to thoroughly enjoy it. My friends tried their chicken burger, creme brulee and surf and turf nachos and they loved it too. Their chipotle aioli is delicious and had a good strong chipotle peppers flavor to it. I really enjoyed the food and am so grateful for the above and beyond service. Kurt made sure that me and my friends had food that did contain ingredients that could have ended our lives and that is a bigger deal. Kurt also made me one of my favorite drink after we bonded over a shared love for it. Kurt made the drink even though it was not on the menu. Kurt also had a really good sense of humor and introduced me to a new beer! Olivia was so kind and supportive in answering our questions and making sure we were taken care of.
